Preserved duck egg and pork congee

Love their baked goods. The ham and egg bun is my favorite here. The custard tarts are oblong, not like other locations. They can be very busy as they are in a good location.

Swung by Saint Anna around 2PM on a Saturday and there were still quite a few folks inside waiting in line. Most were grabbing their items to go, but they do have a lot of large circular tables available if you want to dig into your items right away. The bakery is cash only, but definitely worth swinging by if you're in Chinatown. Egg Tart (3.75/5): This is the classic cookie crust version. Then flan center is a perfect level of sweetness and it's a solid version! Pineapple Bun (4.25/5): Surprising banger. Bread was super soft and still decently moist with a thick cookie crust to add texture and flavor. Chicken Pot Pie (3/5): This one had a bit too little of the meat ratio and somehow the form factor made the pastry much less flaky. Curry Beef Puff (4/5): Flaky crust and perfect ratio of meat to carbs. Beef is perfectly seasoned and doesn't eat greasy at all.

I've never reviewed, but we've been coming to this bakery for decades, mainly for bakery items like pastries and cakes. They have great quality and good values here. They also have a huge offering of cafe items, like noodle and rice dishes and sandwiches, but we have never really come here for those. While Chiu Quon may be our favorite Chinese bakery, this one has been consistently up there as well and a close #2.

Love this bakery in Chinatown! We usually go to another bakery down the street but we found ourselves wandering around and walked in. Their sesame balls are delish! And I wish I ordered more of the steamed buns. They accept card and cash. And have ample seating. Can't wait to go back!

Seriously good pineapple buns and fresh pastries, and very authentic. This place has some awesome baked goods, and it reminds me of my favorite Chinatown dim sum spot, Won Kok in the best way :) We found the place while walking around in Chinatown and are super glad we did. We noticed that they had some great lunch special options too, but we'd already eaten. Next time! Run, don't walk to come try the pineapple buns!

Chocolate Almond Cookie

Recently stopped by Saint Anna Bakery and had a great experience. Almond cookies have always been one of my favorite Chinese desserts, and not only did they have plenty available, they even offered chocolate almond cookies, so I had to grab one of each. Quick heads up: although signage says they accept both cash and card, cards are only accepted for purchases over $10, and there's a small 3% surcharge. The bakery was packed with customers celebrating the New Year's parade, but we were lucky enough to find a table to sample our treats. Both cookies were delicious and nostalgic, and crumbly, fragrant, and full of almond flavor in every bite. The chocolate version was a fun twist on a classic. Best of all, neither was overly sweet, which I always appreciate with Asian desserts. Overall, a lively atmosphere and a satisfying sweet stop I'd happily revisit.

You know this is the spot when aunties and uncles are posted here early in the morning when the shop opens! Who could blame them when the bakery is filled with buns, a great lunch menu, and a community to thrive in! I came here on a Friday morning around 9AM and the bakery was filled with fresh smelling baos. Tables were already full, but there was plenty of seating available. My eyes were everywhere especially on the assortment of cakes, pastries, and baos. I'm from Boston and the prices at Saint Anna Bakery are a hair more affordable and the baos are quite larger than the buns back at home. The winning item was the mini pineapple buns at $0.60! If I could, I would've brought a dozen home. I would definitely come back and get their lunch special and try their baked porkchop rice.

Only a few of these left in Chinatown. Simple no frills mom & pop shop. Loving their Chinese breakfast option and so does my toddler. Also something that doesn't break your wallet either. Some Chinese bakeries and simple classic homemade Chinese meal. Honestly love stopping here in the am. Don't sleep on their egg tart either! Its unique shape is what makes it stand out from the rest of the other spots and doesn't dismiss on flavor either. The waiter is super sweet and tends to your needs. Def love coming here and will always be supporting small family businesses.

Great to see that they've brought sit down dining back to Saint Anna's. Got some shrimp cheung fun (same price as the others, so the shrimp is just so-so) - I'd say go for a different kind. Good ice milk tea and added some pastries to have at the table too. Got a loaf of almond milk bread to take home. Take note of their breakfast menu before noon!

Egg tart, peach cake, mini pineapple bun, coconut tart, wife thing

Stopped in here because this chinese bakery looked legit. And it definitely was, with the first clue being the little boy who helped us at the counter. He had sass and it was fantastic. We sat down to sample the things we got and the egg tart was sooo creamy and smooth. And meanwhile the boy's dad was trying to sit him doen to do homework or something and he started getting real mad saying "but i want to WORK". Haha so cute

We had the pork buns, custard bun and the coconut bun. I think they are cheaper than those from that famous bakery in Chinatown (let's call it CQ) but the goodies are not better than those from CQ. The bread for the custard bun and coconut bun was tough and kinda burnt on the bottom. Custard filling wasn't as generous. Service was quick. Ambience was okay too. The place looked clean and tidy. All in all, for the price, I would say the bread is pretty good.

Myra Y.

We always stop by Saint Anna to get the more traditional Chinese bakery items and pastries. We especially like the sesame balls and the bbq pork buns. Service is quick and we are usually out within a few minutes.

Tippy P.

One of my favorite bakery in Chicago. This one is located in chinatown. They take cash only, so remember to stop by the atm machine. Small restaurant but they have tables and chairs to dine in, they also offer full menu of Chinese food. I've only eaten the pastries they offer, they're the cheapest price around town.

Our large group was accommodated easily, and we were served relatively quickly after an initial delay while we were waiting for someone to come by. Food came soon after that. We ordered a wide range of things: honey shrimp, beef tripe, pork intestine, Hong Kong style fried noodles. Everything here is solid and delicious. Portions are reasonable too. Ambience is nice, clean, and modern. Only issue while we were here is that some in our group tried to order their baked chicken over spaghetti and they were out of spaghetti. Interesting basic ingredient to be short on here, but rice was not a bad substitute. Would definitely come back here if ever back in Chicago!

You can always count on Chi Cafe for a satisfying meal when hungover. Things have definitely changed over the years. After COVID, the hours became more limited, and the neighborhood has faced challenges that have unfortunately affected the area's late-night scene. It's sad but Chi Cafe still delivers when you're craving quick, comforting food. Whether it's a bowl of noodles, , baked rice dishes, Hong Kong-style cafe classics, or a late-night snack, the menu has plenty of options that satisfy those comfort food cravings. It's the kind of place where you know exactly what you're getting, and sometimes that's exactly what you want. The biggest downside is that prices have increased noticeably over the years while portions seem to have gone in the opposite direction. What used to feel like an incredible value now feels like a clear case of shrinkflation. The portions are smaller, and the bill is definitely higher than it used to be, which can be a little disappointing for longtime customers who remember the old days. Even with those changes, I still find myself coming back here just not as often. There's a nostalgia factor that's hard to replace, and the food continues to hit the spot when I'm looking for something warm, filling, and familiar. For me, Chi Cafe remains one of those places that may not be quite what it used to be, but it's still worth visiting when you're in the neighborhood and looking for a dependable meal.

Be prepared to wait a little bit for a table, or share a big one with another party at peak times. Prices are reasonable and portions are pretty generous. ===== Kind of lost count of how many times I've been. Love getting the dim sum and noodle dishes here. Some favorites: beef cheong fun with egg, siu mai, Singapore noodle, xo rice noodle rolls, spare ribs, pork and century egg congee. All the food has been very solid. Inside is always bustling and can be a bit crowded. Service is pretty friendly as far as Chinatown goes, and very efficient. There's a guy who works there who I think is the manager or something, because he puts in 200x effort and is always hustling. When he's not around it feels like something is missing. Prices are very reasonable and we like ordering a lot here so that we have tasty leftovers for later. This place has quite a few big tables and is good for large groups. My only nits are that very occasionally a dish or teacup will have a dirty spot, and that the bubble tea here is kind of meh. I don't remember exactly which one I ordered, but it was a little watery and lacking in flavor. It's also probably tough since they're boxed in by boba places now. Pro tip: When you first get your table, they'll ask you what kind of tea you want. If you ignore them or don't know how to answer, the default is green tea. Another one is to come at off-peak times. Not only will you get a table faster, but I think they tweak their portion sizes depending on how crowded it is. Definitely will be back! And I recommend you visit too

Establishment - open space for the dining area that has a decent number of booth seating (for up to 8-10 people, not your typical 4) and tables that can open to huge circle tables for large gatherings with a massive lazy Susan in the center. There's even private party rooms towards the back. The place overall is pretty clean. Bar is quite bright with a solid selection, and there's TV screens on two of the walls. Kind of random, but doesn't bother me. Beware of parking though. It's not labeled but it is a one way lot wedged between Archer and Cermak - enter from the cermak side! Service - everyone who works here is so friendly, professional, and quick. One woman I think has been there since the inception of the restaurant it feels like and she's always on top of everything. Food - amazing. I can always rely on the taste and quality of the food here. Their dim sum is a bit underrated and I think better than Min Hin (flavor, quantity, and quality wise). The full menu is where it's at though. My family and I always go for the French style beef, sautéed pea tips with garlic, and preserved egg with pork congee. We've gotten their lamb chops before too which was cooked to perfection and the meat was tender and never chewy. Truly just an all around fantastic restaurant, whether you want a family style sit down meal or dim sum (served all day btw!!).

Sunday Funday with a fantastic first visit to a Chinatown gem!…read more I felt like Chinese food today, and rather than eating at my neighborhood regular, I wanted to go straight to Chinatown for the most delicious, authentic experience. Thanks to my deep dive and discovery on Yelp, MCCB turned out to be the perfect spot to achieve this. The restaurant has held its Michelin status for five years now, and for my first time visiting, the flavors here were incredible. Please note: the restaurant signage is not easily visible from the street since the storefront faces inward toward the mall plaza, and while looking for it, I ended up asking a local man and his wife for directions. He was so kind and welcoming that he unexpectedly left his wife on the sidewalk, my husband in the car, and walked me right across the street and into the mall to point it out from the inside! WAIT TIME: there is a 1 to 1.25 hour wait period to be seated for a table, and a $10 fee via credit card is required to secure your spot, which is then fully transferable to your bill upon checkout. The wait is a great time to walk, explore the shops, restaurants, all Chinatown has to offer, and get your steps and miles in! SERVICE: our first server, Allen, was a bit on the stiff, curt side, but overall nice. However, we had to move from a two-top table to a four-top to accommodate all the dishes we were trying. In that changeover, we were blessed to get one of the BEST servers there, Ashley, who made the experience wonderful. FOOD: we ordered an absolute feast, starting with three starters. The Cheng Du Style Dumplings were fantastic. The Crispy Crab Rangoons were actually not mini at all and had a great crunch. The Szechuan Style Cucumber was a bit underwhelming and a slight bit on the soft side for my tastes, as I prefer my veggies crunchy even when cooked. We ordered everything with the mild heat option so there was no overwhelming spice, just great flavor. For the main dishes, we started with the Cauliflower Flank Steak and added broccoli to it, which was a fantastic addition. It is cooked in an oyster sauce and has none of the standard sweeter seasonings of the other dishes. I chose this to balance a sweet and salty rationing across my dishes, finding that MCCB is a great place to get that perfect balance. The Chicken in Spicy Garlic Sauce was perfect with the mild heat option as well, and the Honey Black Pepper Flank Steak was also incredibly savory, tender, and good. We paired everything with garlic string beans, white rice, and a great jumbo shrimp fried rice. I preferred water, while my husband had a few Diet Cokes. The food comes out hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor. PARKING: parking is convenient--there is street parking or you can use the two north and south lots within walking distance. The north lot is on Archer and Wentworth, and the south lot is on Cermak and Wentworth. Validated parking is permitted for a maximum of 3 hours, and you will only pay $3 with the validation. Just make sure to stay within that time limit and get it validated, because if you go over the 3 hours or forget the validation, you will have to pay the full price for the lot. PRICE: the pricing here is very reasonable for a Michelin-recognized restaurant. Our dinner came out to just under $146 total, which offers phenomenal value given the large portions and top-tier quality. If you are seeking high-quality, delicious Sichuan food in Chinatown that completely lives up to its multi-year Michelin status, and can be customized perfectly to your spice comfort, this is a great place to go. Highly recommend and will return with family!

MCCB's is one of Chinatown's most popular restaurants and I can see why…read more Pros: The food is very good. My favorite items are the orange chicken, garlic green beans and their dumplings. Although orange chicken is relatively basic, there's isn't! It's crispy, orangey and savory. The best I've had. Their green beans, easily rival din tai fung's and their dumpling super good as well. A great broth, bouncy chewy wrapper, and super flavorful filling! The restaurant itself is cute & service is pretty decent, as well. Cons: Their crispy chili chicken wasn't my favorite, but I'm not the biggest fan of Szechuan chilies or dark meat. There was also a tang in the after taste of the chicken that I didn't love, but it was fresh and the crisp was really nice! There's also almost always a wait and the place and tables are pretty small, so if you're like me and like to order a lot of things, you may have trouble fitting things.
