The food came out fairly fast with the amount we ordered. Ordered 3 types of meat over steamed rice which came with a bowl of soup and egg. The chasiu was soft and delicious. The duck was good, but half of the amount given was bones. The bbq rib meal was soft too but most of it was the bone. It was a decent portion size for the price. The short rib was seasoned well and soft. The drinks were a bit too sweet for me. Went during the summer and the inside was pretty warm without much air conditioning. There's 2 gender neutral bathrooms.

One time we came in, they told us we have to spend over $30 to use a credit card. Under $30, it's cash only. I don't see them mention this to anyone else though??? Then another time we tried to get our parking validated, she then told me we have to spend over $30 to get it validated??? It was never an issue before, so when did this rule start ?????? I'm not sure if these "rules" are always there?? But most likely will not be returning as much as we used to given all these hidden rules.

I suppose a lot of Chinatown restaurants make their own chicken broth but I was able to see them finish off what must have been started hours ago. I'm so happy I decided to try this place out even though they had higher than the magic 3.5 average rating denoting the very best authentic Chinese restaurants because this place is excellent. Make sure you try the shrimp rolls and something barbecue. If you're vegan, remember an Authentic Chinese barbecue place is probably not going to get that, but if you order plain white rice and steamed tofu you should be okay even with meat eating friends. Im Far East Asian cuisine, rice steamers never have meat in them. Pretty much everything else might have had meat contact. If you have Celiacs, rice noodles and rice have no gluten but some soy sauce does. "Glutinous " rice has no wheat gluten, it just means the rice is sticky.

They do have the option to dine in their simple restaurant and they will validate parking if you spend enough. One order gets three meats ranging from okay Char Siu to an incredible pork belly but at this price nothing they serve is bad. Also comes with soup. Great for a quick mini meal to share or take home dinner!
No frills service. I feel betrayed by the price of bbq meats these days but that's another issue. This place is a great spot for bbq and a low key meal (the dim sum is good and so are the combo plates)! If you are sick of minghin prices and hate the crowd but don't mind a smaller simplified menu, this is a great alternative. Also, I've seen the owner's children in there. It's authentic. My only gripe was that the soy eggs weren't marinated long enough.

The squid was solid as well. The restaurant was quaint and clean. However, the service wasn't great. If you don't call out to the waiters for what you need, you probably won't get any service. This is the style of many Chinese restaurants. Another party behind us got up and left because no one came to take their orders for a very long time. However, we got the attention of our waitress by calling her over and telling her we were ready. If this isn't your style, you probably won't have a great experience here.
Enjoyed the food overall! The Chinese bbq is definitely fresh and I feel like the quality was solid too. I really enjoyed the lunch special here (I got char siu and pork belly with rice-the char siu was excellent in particular). A couple of notes for next time, though...I felt like the lunch special was difficult to order, and the menu wasn't clear as to how it worked, so there were a couple times I felt like I was about to order a different item, or something that wasn't compatible with the lunch special and I don't feel like that was made clear to me. Additionally, for an order at the counter type place, they specifically press you on the tip and put you on the spot about it. Whether I intended to tip or not (and for the record, I don't think a tip is required at an order at the counter place), I didn't feel comfortable with being pressured, and think the customer service could use some work. They have everything there, including dim sum, which is odd. I like their combo rice meal, $13 you get a lot of white rice, hot soup and 3 choices of meat. It is enough to fill you up even if you need large servings. I had 2 type of chicken and BBQ pork. Also I ordered 5lb of roast pork belly to take home. Everything is very flavorful, meat is marinated well. Very standard for Chinese bbq .The setup is what you typically see in HK I do wish they have leaner cut of pork, because pork belly taste oily after you reheat them in the oven. read more

This review is more of a guide for those seeking plant-based options. Unfortunately, not much here. I kinda figured that would be the case coming here but sometimes I gotta go with the flow when the family wants to have lunch here. Usually I can lean on vegetable dishes at Chinese restaurants, but I couldn't even do that here. The one dish I could lean on was the Stuffed Bean Curd Skins. I came mid afternoon during the week and it wasn't busy at all. I was immediately seated and was able to order quickly. I ordered the shrimp dumplings and they were good. They have a Dim Sum menu and a regular menu also, just didn't get a picture of that. Inside was nice, clean and quiet. read more

I love their roast duck over rice! It comes with an egg and veggies and also a small soup. It's healthy and delicious. I come to this place at least 2 times a week, and it's only $10! read more

After a nice weekend in Chicago, I was anxious to hit the Chinatown on our way back out of town and stock up on some of my favorite Chinese baked goods. Being there around lunchtime necessitated a stop in for some BBQ meats too, and that is where New Great Wall BBQ came in for our group. Upon entering the establishment, there were several different tables to choose from, and the waitress was quick to provide menus. I opted for the 3-meat plate and got BBQ pork (char siu), Roast Duck (siu ngaap), and crispy pork belly (siu yuk). The portion was generous and easily shared between my wife and I. We also gave bites to my young sons who enjoyed the BBQ pork quite a bit. Flavors were good, service was quick, and I'll definitely be back during the next Chicago stopover. read more
This is my favorite Chinese BBQ place in Chicago. The interior is clean, with a couple of tables in case you want to dine-in instead of take-out. There is a menu is available in English, and the staff also speaks English if you need that - Canto and Mandarin otherwise. Food-wise, my favorites are the crispy pork belly and the princess chicken for both take-out and dine-in. The pork belly consistently has a nice crispy layer to it without feeling too hard to chew. The fat is rendered nicely also. The princess chicken tastes really refreshing, and goes very well with the dipping sauce that they provide - eat both with a large bowl of white rice and some vegetables on the side for a nutritious, light meal. If you choose to dine-in (which I actually highly recommend), their combination meals come with 1 to 2 BBQ items, rice, veggies (bok choy or napa cabbage in my experience), a small radish soup, and a tea egg. Service is quick and no-nonsense. Other items to choose from are roast duck, char-shiu, soya chicken, and if you're feeling adventurous, pigeon. This is all fine and dandy but to top it off, New Great Wall probably has some of the cheapest prices for a meal in Chinatown, and in Chicago. It's been a small while, but last I checked, everything was around $12 a meal. Definitely on my frequently visited spots in Chicago, and somewhere I wholeheartedly recommend for a quick lunch. read more

For a lack of better words, I just want you to know that my life was changed and has never been the same. The food is ridiculously affordable and the portion size is great, one plate was two meals for me. The food was absolutely delicious. I think about it everyday. I NEED to go back. I love Chinese BBQ meats...whenever I travel I usually eat Chinese BBQ at least once... This unassuming restaurant in Chinatown has really good BBQ. The menu is pretty extensive and the prices are fair. I love pork, so I have gotten the crispy pork belly, the char siu (boneless ribs), the bone-in spare ribs and the soy chicken...all of them are really good... they do know their BBQ meats here !! read more
The service was quick and simple. The food came out hot and fresh. I got served the chicken soup and it was so flavorful. Then the main course came out. The best part was the toasted bbq pork. The outer layer was crispy while the meat was juicy and tender. I'm excited to come back. The inside of the place was nice and warm. They had poplar Asian music playing in the background. I like to get roast duck, crispy skin pork belly, and princess/green onion chicken. Their quality is good, pretty similar to the rest of Chinatown. I like the house soup that comes with the meat combo. It has good flavor that comes from the chicken feet, ribs, and carrots in the soup. The rice doesn't have the ideal sticky or clumpiness that I look for. Interior is great - clean and simple with a small amount of seating so it's a good spot for solo or small group dining. Biggest takeaway from here is that you will absolutely get your bang for your buck!! This place offers affordable prices with just the right portions without sacrificing flavor. I always come here and order the rice or noodle bowl and with duck and pork belly for my meat selections (~$10). I love how it also comes with a side of soup and veggies! They have a delicious meal special where you can choose 1 meat, and it comes with white rice, veggies, a salted egg, and a cup of daily homemade bone broth soup. I really enjoy the roasted duck entree here and that is what I usually order as part of my meal deal. Sometimes the pieces of meat can be on the smaller size, but they are tasty and also since the meal set comes with so many extras including veggies, an egg, and a cup of soup, all for the low price of $8-$9, it is really a great deal. I also want to make a special comment that the included bone soup is really delicious, very soothing, and honestly something that I would pay money for by itself. read more

The restaurant opened on December 22, 2021, the interior has been remodeled and changed to a clean, modern, and straightforward Cantonese style. as you walk in, you will see a selection of authentic Cantonese barbecues hanging right on the rack. With prices being listed by half a pound as the price unit in Chinese, but also, the English menu is listed on the TV screen, everything is super straights forward to order. Also, being the menu only serves about 20-22 items, you won't get lost in it. The prices are super reasonable. For their Combo options, you can choose from 1 protein on rice, up to 3 proteins on rice (As each combo comes with free daily soup and free half salty egg). If you are not a fan of rice because of carbs and trying to work on your beach body. You can also order their noodle soup with one of their barbecue items, I would highly recommend getting their duck rice noodle soup. Do they have dessert? No, they did not. However, they do sell fruit black tea and fruit green tea to clean your pallet. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are craving some fresh Cantonese barbecues. And if you are trying to do a cute date night and to experience a different culture, this place serves the purpose and can wow your date without breaking the bank. We bought some bbq pork and roasted duck from this place and another restaurant near by. We wanted to see which one is better. Bbq pork was great but not the roasted duck. We also got some roasted pork as well. It was good but really fat! I say about 50% of it is. You can try it for yourself and see if you agree with me. I would recommend this place only for bbq pork only if you don't mind the fat! read more
In a row of restaurants and shops on China Place, in the strip near the square off Archer Is a Chinese barbecue restaurant. You could see Peking duck and princess chicken hanging in the window, crispy skin glistening in the sunshine. The smell in the air was undeniably delicious. I have had Peking duck before at a great little place in St. Louis. So we bopped in. The list of barbecue meats was epic even included squab and pork belly. I order the duck and pork belly (up to three meats) reasonably priced. With egg noodles. The broth was delicious layered with flavor, tender baby bok-chow, and even in the broth the skin on the pork belly stayed crispy and delicious. Very flavorful. We will come back when we visit the City. Fast friendly service add to the ambiance. I'm so happy we stopped to try the New Great Wall barbecue! read more

Food: 2 main combos - Served on top of bed of rice or in a noodle soup (egg noodle, rice noodle or flat noodle) ***Egg noodle or round rice noodle RECOMMENDED OVER flat rice noodle (this is because flat noodle quickly absorbed up the broth) Roasted pork belly - 5/5 - excellent crispy skin; a favorite BBQ pork - 3/5 - least favorite because of the seasoning and the cuts; too chewy Roast duck - 5/5 - excellent quality pieces Princess chicken - 5/5 - enjoy the fresh taste of this style of steamed chicken Soya chicken - 5/5 - nicely seasoned and tender Soya octopus - 5/5 - perfect, firm but not chewy texture. Solid spot in Chinatown for "Zham Liu" (Cantonese for cut meats). Prices are reasonable and meat quality is good. Meat portions could be a little more generous on the combos but I would recommend this spot for a quick meal or to take your friends and family for a nice authentic Chinese protein filled meal. read more

This is our new favorite in Chinatown! Highly recommend the BBQ on Rice if you have a hard time choosing one option. You get to choose up to 3 different BBQs and comes with steamed rice, soup, salted egg, and bok choy. The food was so good that we ordered an additional pound of BBQ Pork and Roasted Duck to go. Service was fast and friendly, both while we were dining and for our additional to-go orders! Definitely our new go-to spot for Cantonese BBQ! read more
My new favorite place to go in Chinatown!! I shared the lunch special plate with someone else and we were both full for only $13! It comes with three choices of meat, a salted egg, and the house soup. We decided on roasted duck, roasted pork, and BBQ pork. I LOVED the sweet flavor of the BBQ pork and the texture and savory roasted pork!! The salted egg was basically a creamy hard boiled egg. Want to eat something delicious and not break the bank? Then this would be the place to be at. Very affordable price for a great portion of food, don't sleep on it! From both the outside and inside of the restaurant, you can see the bbq meat and whole birds displayed in kitchen, just like how they do it in Hong Kong. For the rice dish, each order comes with soup du jour, steamed rice, veggie, and "salted" egg, which actually tasted more like tea eggs (it was yummy nevertheless). For just $8 you get a choice of meat, and only $2 to add another meat. I also wanted to try their silken tofu dessert but it didn't happen. The staff were so helpful in helping us splitting the bill. They had also given me a generous amount of ginger scallion sauce (to add a little bit of spice to my siumei) upon request. Most of the customers who came in ordered the meat for takeout instead of dining in. We also got some meat to-go and it was so inexpensive! This is definitely one of my new favorite spots. Even if I'm not dining in I would come back for the bbq meat to-go! P.S. Everyone in your party has to show ID and vaccination proof to dine-in. read more
