Amazing array of options for the malatang self-serve; I especially appreciated all the seafood! Absolutely delicious. Will definitely be back.

This was soo good. One bowl of soup can probably be shared by 2 people. The bone broth was tasty and the choice of ingredient to as to your hot pot was extensive. I love this place. The owner was really nice and love the options for your hot pot sauce.

$14.99/lb building your own hotpot bowl with various broth options. Also the options of a stir fry and dry pot. I ordered the classical bone soup - mild. This broth is creamier. The concept of your own bowl is nice because it's a quicker meal but it is on the expensive end due to the price per pound. I would probably opt for a typical hotpot place but it was nice to try out this concept! There is a sauce bar close to the cashier. You build your bowl, bring it up to the cashier, they'll seat you and then you'll pay at the end of your meal. I wonder how fresh the food is though because there were fruit flies while I was eating. They can also validate your parking.

Whenever I'm craving malatang, I come to Shangliang. The service is good and you can pick your toppings + spice level for your broth. It's such a comforting meal whenever it's cold outside and always hit. You can also make your own sauce but beware of how much you put!

My bowl was around 1.35 pounds?

Ugh I can't help but love malatang because I love any creamy bone broth, and I LOVE when you get to pick your own ingredients. What I don't love is how pricey it can get, especially cuz just a few ingredients will make your bowl so heavy, and you pay by the pound ($14.99). I got a bit of everything including beef slices, pork slices, octopus, fish fillet, enoki mushroom, chicken leg mushroom, etc. The potatoes and chicken leg mushroom were definitely the highlight, in addition to the insanely yummy "cheese fish ball" which was filled with some sort of cream cheese filling? Sounds weird but HEAR ME OUT! The mild bone broth itself was quite good, though I think it lacked some mala with that signature numbing spice. when I added more chili oil, it was definitely delicious!! They have an AYCE free sauce bar with a peanut appetizer too, so that was nice. I spammed my bowl with scallions and their garlic paste. Their service is incredibly fast and you pay after you eat! A good number of tables, though it was quite packed even on a random Thursday lunch at 12:30pm. They kept the place very clean!

I've been here twice so far and I love the concept of Malatang! Their broth is very yummy and flavorful and they have a good variety of ingredients you can choose from. I just have a few concerns since both times I have been here the restaurant is almost close to empty so their ingredients just sit out for who knows how long. Another concerning issue is the flies. Both times I've been here there were so many visible flies everywhere. The first time I came here I even saw a worker using an electric flyswatter right above the sauce bar. So it's very off putting. I think the food and concept itself have great potential but the cleanliness and time control of ingredients need improvement.

came here around noon as a party of 2 on a sunday! i was super excited as this was my first malatang experience and ive had this place bookmarked for a bit. upon entering, we were seated immediately, the place was about half full at this time. we got our bowls and utilized the self serve buffet to pick out our malatang ingredients. there weren't as many options as other hot pot spots i've been to, but it was still pretty good. theu had a couple types of beef and they also had pork and i believe lamb as well. they even had pig's blood! i read another review that was worried about the hygiene of this place, and i will say that i also noticed that the ingredients had no "sneeze guard" over them and it was a little off putting knowing that so many people will be getting so close to the food. i guess this is expected for any kind of food buffet though, and at least this food ends up getting cooked after! i was worried about my bowl being heavy as i put a bunch of noodles and meat and veggies, but luckily it ended up being less than 2 lbs still. the bowl is kinda heavy on its own so be aware of that! we then handed over our bowls to the employees and specified which broth and spice level we wanted and then within ~7 minutes, our bowls were returned to us, piping hot and cooked! i got the bone broth at a medium spice level and it was DELICIOUS. the bone broth was rich and hearty and the spice level was perfect for me, although i did add scallion and cilantro from the sauce bar! overall, i was super happy with this meal, and given that i made quite a big bowl, i was able to take the rest home and get 2 meals out of this! i'm excited to come back.

Highly recommend the stir-fry dry pot!10/10 it's my absolute favorite. The staff are so friendly and the prices are really reasonable.

Ambiance - casual dining spot, great for 1 person dining Service - self serve bar, you pick the items (meat, noddles, veggie), weight the bowl by the cashier and you pick soup base or stir fry Food - amazing flavors, tom yum soup base came out pipping hot and spicy, stir fry spicy pot was the right about of numbing spice & came with a side of rice

Great spot when you're craving an affordable, individual size Chinese hot pot meal. They've got a wide of variety of the common meats and veggies. They're either frozen or fresh although some of the veggies is questionable. Wide selection of sauces including Sacha, my go to. Bone broth was flavorful and nothing was overcooked, including the noodles and meat. Good amount of seating inside. They didn't check on us or refill waters after bringing the food.

First time at a malatang in the States. Friendly staff. Took some time for ingredients to get filled and for food to come out. Otherwise clean place, nice restrooms, and good crowd. They were surprisingly busy on a Thursday evening. Spicy bone broth is yummy.

My korean girlfriend approved this and I agree. We thought the food was delicious with a lot of fresh ingredients to select from. The broth had a homemade taste, not commercial taste, and with the quality ingredients for the sauce the food ended tasting amazing. Beware it's busy and can feel chaotic, especially with all the youth that enjoys eating here, but that just added to experience for us. The place was clean which we appreciated.

This place is amazing! I love coming here whenever I'm in Chinatown. Great customer service and delicious food.

I was pretty skeptical since I'm more of an AYCE hotpot person; however, I learned that HaiDilao offers a late night deal of $24.99 for sirloin, lamb, pork belly, and chicken. This deal seems pretty worth it since it's like you're paying less than half the price of the original costs. One of the main star dishes we get is the lobster fish balls, and they're a must try! Something about them being filled with lobster and roe makes it so tasty and umami. There's a sauce bar with some goodies and snacks as well. I don't like how you have to pay for the sauce bar, but it makes up for it with the amount of items you get there. Additionally, you have to be aware that the soup base is priced based on how many you get as well. The service was just amazing the last time we went since the waiter was always smiling and always made sure he poured my water when it was empty. Additionally, we said a special phrase that complimented their soup base, and he gave us a tomato soup base packet to take home!!! The ambiance is very nice here, and you can really tell that they keep the area very clean. They have robots bringing your food as well, so that's an experience. The only concern is that there's no parking, so it's a little hard to find parking nearby.

All in all, I think if you're into hot pot, especially if you're staying at one of the hotels, this place is definitely worth checking out.

It was pretty busy with large groups, so the host did a really nice job of seeing us within a reasonable time of our arrival. Since the entire table has to select the same price set, our group decided on the silver level sitting ($55). We figured was a good middle option as it included two massive seafood platters which contained snow crab legs, scallops, fillets of white fish, squid and clams. The waiter also suggested the spicy Sichuan hot pot soup base, which had the perfect amount of spice, but was not the typical mala numbing taste. He encouraged three cuts of their best choice meats, one specialty platter per person, unlimited sushi and nigiri and a soft drink of choice with refills. We decided to get an array of special items since it was one per person, so we're all able to share the beef tartar (served with Pringles) and the seared wagyu nigiri which were our top picks of the evening. I don't mind the bone marrow here, but I remembered it was a little too oily (which I get it is), but it was a bit much for me last time we ordered-so we passed on that. Our server was extremely attentive and helped clear our table as more plates and bowls were added for sauces, rice, and seafood shells. I'm also genuinely impressed by the quality of food. This is probably my fifth or sixth time here, as it's closer to where I live without having to go all the way to Chinatown and the quality is extremely consistent. We also ordered 4 orders of the smoked salmon nigiri, the yellow tail and the regular salmon for the table. To our groups surprise, we finished it all! We also were able to go up and make our own dipping sauces, and a variety of fresh vegetables for our individual hot pots. They had slices of king oyster mushrooms, hydrated shiitake and seafood mushrooms, but I really would've liked to have the option of enoki mushrooms as well, but I do understand they're a little bit on the pricier side. I also really liked the fried tofu cubes, firm tofu, and their bok choy. All the vegetables were pretty fresh for having it be buffet style. I wish there was more of a variety of noodles as most Hot Pot places have vermicelli, ramen, fresh noodles, and udon noodles. Also heads up- this restaurant you had to order your udon noodles separately as they were not at the buffet. My main suggestion of the evening was to have the seafood platters snow crab legs pre-scored as it was fairly difficult to try and crack open the claw with the fork and chopsticks provided. Overall, I would definitely come back for the quality of food and the reasonable prices. We finished our meal with a side of cookies and cream ice cream, which sounds like a very odd combination after Hot Pot, but honestly perfectly closed out our evening.

Everybody at the table must order the same level of menu, and once you get there, you can see why. We all agreed upon the ultimate, and we're rapidly seated. The server understood instantly that we were rookies, and was helpful and pleasant for our entire adventure. He showed us how to place the orders for the broth pots that are used to cook the various items. He also showed us how to place the orders for more of the all-you-can-eat items. In addition to the meats and special items that came from ordering, there is a conveyor belt that contains more items such as pastas, vegetables, and things like tofu, fish, and other things. We each chose a different broth, and you have controls it your table that control an induction cooktop to heat it up to your preferred level. The only complaint I had about the entire visit is that the controls are hard to access. You have to bend down since they are under the edge of your table, and they are not intuitive. So you have to look at them. It is difficult. That is my only complaint. The broth I got which was mushroom based was very good. The meats were things like ribeye, New York strip, brisket, pork, shoulder, chicken, and you would toss them into the cooking broth for a number of seconds pull them out, and they would be cooked to perfection. Grabbing things off of the conveyor was extremely easy, and they managed to keep it full. Delivery of the meat items was achieved using a second train system that would stop at your table and you would unload your little items and begin using them. Very automated. You ordered off of a touchscreen, your items arrived at your table within two minutes. Again, I cannot say enough about the service. It was extremely fast! The server who personally handled our table was outstanding! The food was delicious, in the atmosphere was wild. The walls were covered with Japanese anime art, and the music was a mixture of Japanese pop and K-pop, with a little hip-hop thrown in for fun. The all you can eat model meant that our prices were still quite reasonable. Like most oriental all you can eat, they do expect you only need to grab what you will eat. They're not big on wasting food. And I don't blame them. Their prices are reasonable. Unlike conveyor belt sushi, where you pay by every plate you grabbed, here you are paying for the ultimate experience. This was an outstanding adventure. The food was great in the atmosphere was great. I just wish they had a parking lot!

Thick, flavorful, comforting... easily the best hot pot broth I've ever had. The Chongqing broth with level 1 spice wasn't too spicy, but I realized I'm just not a huge fan of that style of broth in general. The vibes were honestly great too. We sat by the windows and the AC was perfect so you don't get blasted with hot air while cooking like most hot pot spots. It was loud since everyone comes in groups. The biggest downside was the wait. We got seated 32 minutes after our reservation on a Monday night and the walk-in waitlist was already 80+ minutes. Apparently Mondays usually aren't even this busy. They also charged us for the sauce station even though we didn't use it, but they removed it after we noticed. The giant beef feast had insane presentation and the meat tasted super fresh, but for $98 I expected a little more consistency because some cuts were way better than others. 7.5/10. The house meatballs were surprisingly delicious too. 7/10. The abalone tasted fresh and the rice cakes with brown sugar were PERFECTTT 9/10. The only thing I really didn't like was the matcha latte. The foam tasted like cheese foam and the matcha itself tasted artificial. 3/10. Overall this spot definitely made me love hot pot more... but for ~$230 total it's pretty pricey for what it is. Still one of the best hot pot experiences I've had though.
