I came with a date for dinner based on yelp recommendations. In short this is a good Cantonese restaurant with authentic food that appeals to those of Chinese heritage and others that appreciate that style of cuisine (including me). The restaurant itself is very basic with chintzy decor, scattered plants that could use a cleaning and better pots, and cloudy fish tanks with Koi that are so big they barely fit. The dining room is one big, noisy open area with a tv on the wall that staff were enjoying watching Chinese soap operas. To be kind it's clean but very well-worn. I wish we could have read the Hànzì menu (Chinese writing) which probably offered more interesting items. We ordered from the English menu and had tea, white rice, wanton (sic) soup, Shrimp with Lobster sauce, Mongolian Beef, and Szechuan Eggplant. Everything was tasty and portions were reasonable. Prices are competitive and service was kind and attentive. Staff struggled with English but we all were able to communicate well enough. Salt and Pepper Pork (4.5/5): so juicy and the perfect salt and pepper flavor. Been going to grand palace since I was little. The food was amazing as always! My favorite item is the steamed egg. We got a lot of different veggies, fish, and meats, and they were all delicious. It really feel like an authentic Chinese food experience. The service was quick, and they were very friendly. It's still the same workers and owner since we've been going there. The ambiance is very simple with a lot of Chinese decor. They have a small parking lot as well. The inside has very limited seating and tables. Would 100% recommend coming here again! read more

First time in Chicago and my nephew suggested the is place and it does not disappoint! It's authentic Cantonese style decor is whatever but who care the food is excellent. I'm generally not a fan of Peking duck, but their 5 spice duck was delicious. Excellent seasoning not too salty. Meat was soft and tender. Salt and pepper soft shell crab- amazing. Okay but overall the best was the Japanese tofu. The outside was seasoned with salt and pepper seasoning lightly breaded and the inside was soft tofu. Amazing. I have never had anything like that before. We wanted to order more but we were headed into Chinatown and knew we needed to save some room in our stomach for dessert. read more

Food is easily a 5/5 but the presentation and ambiance leaves something to be desired. There isn't enough parking in their own lot, but you can find street parking nearby. It's in a seedy area of town so you have to ring a doorbell to get in. That being said, I felt okay parking on the street during the day. The tea was served in styrofoam cups but I guess it's at least clean. The tables were covered in the type of paper you would lie down on in a doctor's office. Love love love this place. Homestyle, authentic Chinese food. I highly recommend the stir fried pork belly with green onion and ginger--my mouth is watering just thinking about it. They also have excellent steamed egg, as well as roast duck with plum sauce. The lunch special during the weekdays is extremely affordable and comes with soup. Ambience is very traditional Chinese restaurant, with circular tables and lazy susans, with Chinese paintings on the walls, although I don't believe they have reopened for dine-in yet. My mom and I came here to get carry out. It was a bit busy, but seem most of the tables were already eating or just got their food. So, we placed 3 rice box orders and it came out to $16. She told us 20 minutes.....wow quite long for carry out. So we went outside to wait. My mom went back inside to check on food after 20 minutes already. This is a place for some pretty freaking delicious seafood. The restaurant itself is tiny, crowded, and very unassuming from the outside - the exact kind of Cantonese tea-house style that I trust to serve authentic dishes. I wouldn't have known this place exists if it weren't for a friend who brought me here! Almost everyone eating here was Chinese/Asian, and the place was bustling by 6 pm - there was a small line waiting to be seated. The seafood here are reminiscent of the ones that I had in Hong Kong, which is saying quite a lot. Between my friend and I, we split a Dungeness crab, which is a whole crab cooked in a lightly salted batter and was unbelievably aromatic and juicy, and fresh scallops+razor clams, which were cooked in a garlicky broth with rice noodles. We also got a side of their vegetables of the day, a bowl of water spinach in a broth that was cooked with some thousand year-old preserved eggs in it.
