Good food!! We've always done take out but this is the first time we ate in. It wasn't too crowded which is good for a weekday. The service was good and it wasn't too loud. The restaurant is simple with decorations. Didn't take pics. Will have too next time. We had Dungeness crab, minced pork with salted fish, pea pod leaves and garlic, shredded chicken and fish and squid. All were delicious and food came out fast. Will definitely order more take out. The food here has always been decent. I've come here since I was a kid in the 90s. Now I'm a grown man with a family of my own. We decide to come here cause my dad like this place. Since the ownership change this place is a complete joke. In all my years of life eating out, I've never had a waitress push back on order more food. Their rationale was the kitchen can't handle additional orders that aren't placed at time when food is first placed. This waitress/manager or owner whoever is more concerned with table turn than actual service. She did not want to take the additional order and at the end I was not able to order more food for my family. What a completely absurd way of doing business. Especially this is a customer service/hospitality business. There are literally hundreds of restaurants within tripping distance with equal or better food. What a small minded manager/owner. I wish them everlasting success with this business mentality. I for one will never be returning. read more

What a difference time makes. This used to be a slow, non-descript Chinatown restaurant on Wentworth, but now it's suddenly popular? I guess a coat of fresh paint and some updated menus is a good start for a glow up. During the holidays, there are some holiday specials to consider if you're unsure of what to order and you have a group with you. I tend to know what I want so ordering a la carte is more my thing. The Cantonese dishes are all right in line with what I expect in terms of value and taste. The kitchen works pretty fast, and I was also talked into trying some different items like a mushroom soup. This spot isn't the biggest, but it's worthy of consideration for lunch or dinner if you have a manageable size party. This spot deserves a 4.5 but there is no half star. We've heard good things from Golden Bull and I had been wanting to try this spot. There was a wait when we came but they also reservations. They seem to be pretty busy, but the food comes out pretty quickly and the prices are very reasonable. Our favorite items were the spicy beef short ribs, beef chow fun, and the clay pot rice. Everything we ordered we enjoyed a lot and were glad to have leftovers. I came here to try the clay pot rice. Everything seemed delicious but we only tried a fraction of the menu. I have a real soft spot for Golden Bowl. It's the quintessential mom-and-pop shop where you can tell the food is made with genuine care. The flavors are consistently excellent, and it has that authentic, home-cooked feel that you just can't find at bigger chains. It's the kind of place you want to see succeed because the owners are so hardworking and kind. ​However, the major downside lately is that it's becoming far too overcrowded. Because the space is small and the word has clearly gotten out about how good the food is, the dining room feels pretty cramped. During peak hours, the wait times have become a bit of a struggle, and it's hard to enjoy a relaxed meal when there's a line of people hovering near the door. Classic canto food restaurant!! Dishes are in decent portions but could be bigger for the price. This restaurant is perfect for seating biggg groups!! They have large round tables. The food here is yummm, like nothing was bad at all!! We had a table of 10 so ordered a variety of dishes to share, but I gotta say the Japanese tofu with king mushroom had the best flavors! Soooo umami and love the contrast of the bouncy king mushroom texture with the soft Japanese tofu. The food tasted pretty good and very authentic! I've always driven past this place and finally got the opportunity to try it with family. My favorite dish had to of been the salt and pepper soft shell crab. It was so crispy and flavorful! I also enjoyed the chicken and crispy pork chops we ordered. The service was pretty quick, and they were always refilling our waters and rice. The menu was very appealing since they had a lot of pictures of their dishes. Ooo I had some clams that tasted like clams with sauce on it and I also had sweet and sour pork I believe with sweet and sour sauce on it. I liked the clams better than the sweet and sour pork because the size of the clams makes eating it more enjoyable. I also never accidentally ate part of a shell this clam session so that's rare. We ordered the S&P pork and the balanced meal set w egg tofu and mushroom, chicken in lotus leaf and fish and tofu. Largely unassuming and little off the main Chinatown path, Golden Bull ended up passing the ultimate test of its all--getting the approval of my Asian parents. The restaurant in itself is very small but very cozy, probably has a little under 10 tables and would definitely get crowded on a busy day. The food in itself was authentic, filling, and hit that homemade itch for me. The ginger scallion chicken and the salt baked chicken was very good and well seasoned--hit the spot with a nice bed of rice. We also had some classic canto dish with some sort of mollusk on a bed of thin noodles, I believe it was a special at the time but that was also chef's kiss. Went here for NYE a few days ago. My mango smoothie was just flavored shredded ice. I didn't even finish it because it wasn't melting. Service was good. I'm giving 2 stars because I think their potstickers or smoothie gave me bad food poisoning that lasted for hours into the early morning hours. Always a ton of aunties and Chinese families gathered to eat here so you know it's gonna be good! I've come here a few times and tried different items and they've all been very solid. They are very consistent with the quality of the dishes and with them all being delicious. It doesn't get busy pretty fast and it's not a large space so I'd get there early or be prepared to wait a little. I usually walk around in the area once I put my name down, it's not usually a very long wait in my experience. They are known for their Cantonese lobster and seafood. One thing that is weird about this place is that the service, along with the food, is excellent. That is not standard in Chinatown, but I'm certainly not complaining. We ordered the crab over sticky rice which was the clear winner. We also got a clay pot rice dish, bok Choi, and the Cantonese fried chicken. I would skip the chicken and go straight for more crab next time. Also, their chili oil is homemade and definitely has more Szechuan peppercorns in it, which I love. We returned here about a month after our last visit, but this time as a party of 7 and on a Saturday evening. I made a reservation which is always a good idea here, and my favorite staffer Joyce was on duty, yaay. We basically ordered one of their dinners for 6 ($105.95) and added 2 more dishes - a lamb stew casserole pot for $22.95 and farmer's chicken for $14.95. So the pre-tip bill was a great value $160.75 for the following 8 dishes: - stir fried lobster - pan fried shrimp - Chef's special sole - Peking style sweet and sour pork - shrimp and scallops with veggies - salt and pepper tofu - lamb stew casserole pot - farmer's chicken Another tip-top excellent 5 star meal, and it was busy as usual with a steady flow of customers. The patrons here tend to eat and go and not dilly-dally so there is a good turnover of tables for the smallish place. We also got near the last two parking spots in the Chinatown parking lot at 5:30pm before they were declared full. I can't believe those two lots can fill up that early, but they do. So that's the pro-tip of the day for you. I was told a White Sox game can help cause that, but I can't believe people are dumb enough to park in that lot to save a few bucks from parking at GRF. Trusty Yelp reviews led me to choose to eat lunch at Golden Bull Restaurant and I was not disappointed. It was just me which is a shame because I didn't get to sample much of the menu. It was a cool'ish day (for a wimpy Californian) so I started out with hot and sour soup. They have two sizes so I ordered the small, but it was large enough for two (if not more) rice bowls worth. It was packed with veggies and a good amount of meat. It was maybe a little more sour than I'm accustomed to, but not overly so. It came out piping hot and really hit the spot. For my main course, I had the beef with bitter melon. Bitter melon is an acquired taste so I'm not sure I'd recommend it for first timers. However, if you like it, you'd love this dish here! It was a good sized plate with a very decent amount of beef. I couldn't finish it but that means I can have another meal! I got there at 1 PM so it was pretty empty. The service was fast and efficient. I would definitely come back here again and would recommend it to others. In fact, I overhead a couple who were from out of town. They found the restaurant "by reviews" (perhaps they used Yelp also!) and left a bunch of food. The waitress was wondering if the food was not good but they said they loved it but basically ordered too many dishes and the dishes were too large.
