    Holiday special menu

What a difference time makes. This used to be a slow, non-descript Chinatown restaurant on Wentworth, but now it's suddenly popular? I guess a coat of fresh paint and some updated menus is a good start for a glow up. During the holidays, there are some holiday specials to consider if you're unsure of what to order and you have a group with you. I tend to know what I want so ordering a la carte is more my thing. The Cantonese dishes are all right in line with what I expect in terms of value and taste. The kitchen works pretty fast, and I was also talked into trying some different items like a mushroom soup. This spot isn't the biggest, but it's worthy of consideration for lunch or dinner if you have a manageable size party. Service has gotten friendlier and the fact that they're suggesting things to me is a very different vibe than what I was accustomed to previously.

This spot deserves a 4.5 but there is no half star. We've heard good things from Golden Bull and I had been wanting to try this spot. There was a wait when we came but they also reservations. They seem to be pretty busy, but the food comes out pretty quickly and the prices are very reasonable. Our favorite items were the spicy beef short ribs, beef chow fun, and the clay pot rice. Everything we ordered we enjoyed a lot and were glad to have leftovers. I came here to try the clay pot rice. Everything seemed delicious but we only tried a fraction of the menu. I'd definitely come again!

I have a real soft spot for Golden Bowl. It's the quintessential mom-and-pop shop where you can tell the food is made with genuine care. The flavors are consistently excellent, and it has that authentic, home-cooked feel that you just can't find at bigger chains. It's the kind of place you want to see succeed because the owners are so hardworking and kind. However, the major downside lately is that it's becoming far too overcrowded. Because the space is small and the word has clearly gotten out about how good the food is, the dining room feels pretty cramped. During peak hours, the wait times have become a bit of a struggle, and it's hard to enjoy a relaxed meal when there's a line of people hovering near the door. I'm happy they're busy, but the cozy charm is starting to get lost in the chaos. Really enjoying the holiday specials combo set.

We shared: Crab w/ Sticky Rice Steamed Sea Bass Mandarin Pork Chops Stuffed Seafood Tofu Casserole Ong Choy w/ Garlic Sticky rice had perfect flavor and stickiness. Sea Bass was soft, fresh, and nostalgic. Pretty much everything was perfectly cooked and flavor was textbook imo. Ong Choy could've used a little more seasoning. Good service and good amount of seating inside for small to large groups.

5/5 it was delicious but like they gave us the large portion without asking if we wanted the regular portion .... But it's fine bc I like leftovers and it was good. Shrimp salt and pepper, tofu salt and pepper was delicious. The beef rib salt and pepper was also melt off the bone delicious. On Choy in garlic sauce was really good. Rice comes with the meal and wasn't extra. That's how I know they are legit. It's a city so parking is difficult. We walked from our hotel. And then walked back stuffed.

Classic canto food restaurant!! Dishes are in decent portions but could be bigger for the price. This restaurant is perfect for seating biggg groups!! They have large round tables. The food here is yummm, like nothing was bad at all!! We had a table of 10 so ordered a variety of dishes to share, but I gotta say the Japanese tofu with king mushroom had the best flavors! Soooo umami and love the contrast of the bouncy king mushroom texture with the soft Japanese tofu. The shredded chicken tastes like chicken marinated in garlic, sesame seeds, a tiny bit of cilantro, the slightest bit of wine, and chicken bouillon. I didn't expect to love this but I couldn't stop eating it!!

The food tasted pretty good and very authentic! I've always driven past this place and finally got the opportunity to try it with family. My favorite dish had to of been the salt and pepper soft shell crab. It was so crispy and flavorful! I also enjoyed the chicken and crispy pork chops we ordered. The service was pretty quick, and they were always refilling our waters and rice. The menu was very appealing since they had a lot of pictures of their dishes. The ambiance was very simple and tiny, but it definitely felt like a nice hole in the wall spot. The place was packed when we went so expect to wait a bit if you go during dinner.

Ooo I had some clams that tasted like clams with sauce on it and I also had sweet and sour pork I believe with sweet and sour sauce on it. I liked the clams better than the sweet and sour pork because the size of the clams makes eating it more enjoyable. I also never accidentally ate part of a shell this clam session so that's rare. The size of the pork is more intimidating but it was good could be crispier or I should've gobbled it faster before the crisp disappeared that's just my fault.

The food there were fresh and tasty. The owner was very nice and recommended a valuable combo to save money. I love the live lobster with green onion and ginger.

This is a gem in Chinatown. Like a hole in the wall. Reasonably priced tasty Chinese food. It came out fast and it was clean inside. The food was fresh. The staff were nice. Street parking only. Great experience.

It was packed and busy. A very fast pace environment. We were seated right away upon entry. Great communication and service. The food is fantastic. We will be coming back for more seafood.

Was told this was one of the best Chinese restaurants in Chicago but was not blown away. Maybe there were other standout dishes to order instead but the beef chow fun was oddly overly oily and noodles not separated. Not sure if this is the way they usually make it or not. The eggplant and chicken was fine. A bit salty but nothing to write home about as well. Service was great and food came out quickly for a lunch rush.

This place had some of the best Chinese I have had in forever! I went with two other friends and we were mostly silent during dinner because we were enjoying ourselves so much. I also highly recommend this place for the large portions and reasonable prices!

There were a few small two tops, but mostly those big round family size tables with the giant center lazy susans. Got a paper menu for dim sum items and a regular menu. Had to go with the dim sum goodies since it had so many things we'd never seen in any Michigan Chinese restaurants. Sweet walnut buns, fried bean curd skins filled with deliciousness, brisket with rice noodles that looked like Korean rice cakes, meatloaf, and more. Everything was outstanding, with various sauces presented with different items. This was new for us as well. A deep red vinegar with some fried dumplings, a tasty black sauce with the fried stuffed bean curd skins, a sweet plum sauce with the fried skinny shrimp rolls, it was really fun food. They have a barista making coffee, espresso and even milk tea, but the wait was like 10 minutes. Clean restaurant with very good service. Wish we lived closer so we could make it regular stop.

Communication was a challenge since very little English was spoken, and the descriptions of the dishes were lacking. I don't enjoy gambling on menu titles that sound good but end up being something completely different from what you expect. Some of the more familiar dishes were solid. The Kung Pao Chicken and Mongolian Beef were both pretty good and tasted like what you'd expect from most Chinese restaurants. Other dishes were much harder to understand, even after asking questions about how they were prepared or whether they were sweet or savory. We ordered the Sauteed Chicken in Hot Spicy Sauce Rice, which turned out to be very heavy on Sichuan peppercorns with a strong floral aftertaste. The chicken sat on a bed of what looked and tasted like deep-fried kale, and despite the word "rice" in the name, there was no rice in the dish at all. That's one item we won't be ordering again. We also tried the Fish Filet with Hot and Sour Lime Sauce. It was basically a sweet-and-sour style fish dish. It wasn't bad, but it leaned much sweeter than expected. Another thing to note: none of the dishes come with white rice--it's completely à la carte. We only found that out after ordering. With prices being what they are these days, it would be nice if they included at least some white rice like most Chinese restaurants do. Overall, the food wasn't terrible, but the lack of clear descriptions and communication made the experience frustrating. I prefer restaurants where expectations are clear rather than discovering surprises after the food arrives.
