I've been regular at MingHin in Suburban Naperville for a few years now, and it has never disappointed. I had the pleasure of doing lunch with Dan, the keyboards for Blues Legend Buddy Guy, and I was overjoyed to learn he loved DimSum. I jumped at the chance to try the Chinatown location. We had a bunch of varied stuff from the DimSum Menu, and it was all top top notch. Cant remember exactly what we had, it's a picture menu, and as the waiter didnt seem to speak much English, it was point and shoot. All of it was distinctively yum. Like just about every place you can go in Chinatown, the premises appear slightly run-down, in that "we've been here for a hundred years, and you're coming here to eat, not ogle the architecture" way. Turned out not to be cheap-bill for 2 = $80 + change without any booze. But the quality of the food was over the top. Don't mind paying the freight, when the feed is worth it. read more

It's good. But is it Michelin guide good? No. When you walk in the interior is warm and cozy unless you look a little closer at the dangling glass hanging over the tables and see the dust on the string and glass. The service is... well... you are the wait staff to be honest. They handed us a tablet and you had to page your way through and order in the tablet itself. So...I didn't really appreciate that. The food was good, but the flavors didn't really stand out. The amount of broccoli provided was way more than the beef. But it was good. Anyway, sure... it is fine. Got the Pork Soup Dumplings, Shrimp Crepe, Roast Duck. Everything was pretty tasty! I really liked the duck since it was crispy and tender. Loved the vast menu and had some fun items for kids too! We enjoyed what we had and service was fast and efficient. There were lots of booths and large tables for big parties and groups. This was my first eatery experience in Chicago and it's just steps away from where I'm staying. It's located in the Lakeshore East area and, upon entering the restaurant, it appears small, until you walk to the back to find a much bigger, louder area filled with folks eating and chatting. We sat in the quieter area near the front since we only ordered two dishes, which we devoured in short order, then went on our way. Something I'd never seen before was the tablet to order your food! My go to spot for dim sum in Chinatown. They are always busy but you can plan ahead to make an online reservation. We checked in and we got seated within 5 mins of our reservation time. They are so fast with service which I love! You can place items off the iPad for some larger entrees such as fried rice and soup, and they have plenty of options on their dim sum menu where you write down the quantity of each preferred item. I always love their shrimp eggrolls and siu mai. Everything comes out really quickly as well. Plenty of spaces for large and small parties. Highly recommend! read more

One of the worst dining experiences we've had in a long time. From the moment we asked to move to a larger table so our family and young children could sit together comfortably and actually use the Lazy Susan, the staff acted irritated. Multiple employees rolled their eyes at us, and after agreeing to move us, they told us to carry our own place settings over to the new table. The attitude was unbelievably rude and made us feel like we were a burden simply for asking for a reasonable seating arrangement. The service only got worse. When dishes came out, some were basically tossed onto the table. We ordered a crispy pork dish, and what arrived looked old, dry, and almost entirely fat. It was honestly difficult to imagine anyone wanting to eat it. When we asked them to take it back, we got more eye-rolling and attitude. The food itself was also extremely disappointing. The portions were tiny and completely overpriced, the bbq dishes also look at least a day old. Our bill was almost $300, and we still left hungry. I actually woke up in the middle of the night hungry and had to get up and eat because I couldn't fall back asleep. Spending nearly $300 on dinner and leaving that hungry is ridiculous. What bothered us most was the complete lack of hospitality. We weren't asking for anything unreasonable. We were simply trying to have a nice family dinner, and instead the staff made everyone feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Rude service, tiny portions, overpriced food, and poor food quality. This dinner completely ruined everyone's night. For nearly $300, we expected a pleasant meal and basic respect. We got neither. Definitely will not be returning. read more

I would absolutely come back again if I'm in town. The string beans with duck stole the show. I ate the whole large plate! I also loved their take on the egg custard lava bun. It was more pastry than bread bun. I took off one star for both service and food. The beef meat was not good and we didn't end up wasting it. It tasted off. The food was also too fried and you could taste the oil. Anything fried, we only ate one or two bites of. For service, our table didn't have a pen so we didn't know we were supposed to mark what we wanted. When our server came, we ordered some things on a tablet at our table and then I picked up the dim sum menu and said "and an we get an order of xx" he marked it and I said "and..." but we took the menu immediately and turned away. We were shocked! Then I noticed that other tables were marking things down. I waved over another waitress and asked if I can get the dim sum menu back and get a pen. Came here for dim sum and this place rocks. The service is a little slow. Not like the places where they roll the carts around. You order from a menu and then they deliver. Had 2 XLB which were huge 3 per order. They come in a tin and the dough sticks to the tin so don't try to remove the bao you'll lose all the juice. We had to ask for the black vinegar and soy sauce. Was super disappointed eating dim sum here. The food was the most disappointing part, tasted no different than the Chinese takeout down the street at home. Going all the way to the city I was expecting fresh and crunchy chicken, but everything was just mediocre. You also have to constantly grab a worker to answer questions or to get service. Soup dumplings that immediately became the kids' personal obsession. Shu mai that hit every time. BBQ pork buns in every form they offered because obviously. Chinese broccoli to balance out the indulgence. Everything was solid, fresh, and exactly what you want from a dim sum spread. The room was packed and buzzing but the service kept up impressively. Servers were constantly circling, clearing empty plates and dishes without missing a beat. Clean and attentive even at full capacity, which is no small thing. Fair warning if you are bringing little ones: this environment is a lot. The noise, the crowd, the overwhelming parade of food arriving at the table. Our kids loved what they ate but the sensory experience was a bit much for them. This is a place better suited for a group of adventurous adults or older kids who thrive in high energy environments. Upon walking in, you'll see a vibrant Chinese decor and atmosphere filled with culture all around. Staff are engaging and quick to most guest throughout. I can see why during peak hours, it can get quite busy. Perhaps making reservations in advance would be a wise choice as it can minimize the wait. This establishment is located at the end of the plaza. Can't really miss it as it's quite large in terms of space and capacity. My children brought me for Mother's Day. They made reservations and we arrived and got seated in no time. It was my first time at this restaurant so the staff were very nice in explaining the process. Once we ordered the food came out fresh and quick. We ordered so much food we had plenty of leftovers. I especially loved the dim sum. We ordered several different orders and all were delish. Being that it was Mother's Day, the restaurant was pretty packed, but it didn't seem like there was a long wait time. Very good dim sum in a relaxed elegant setting! We liked visting MingHin Cuisine restaurant in the Chinatown Square shops, known for dim sum and Cantonese fare. It is decorated in bright classic Chinese designs and features, and our group of eight was welcomed warmly and well taken-care-of at this 5-time winner of the Michelin "Bib" (affordable) award, among a long list of kudos. This location of MingHin is at the southwest end of the Chinatown Square open-air mall, on the first floor facing the mall's central walkway. It's about a 4 minute walk from the Red Line station. It looks like there's plenty of paid street-parking along the Archer and S. China Place faces of the mall. We made reservations for 11am and they promptly seated us at one of a number of large round tables with a "lazy susan" turntable in the middle, perfect for conversation and sharing. Anna brought us hot tea immediately, and the staff and their two-kitchens kept our table well-supplied with piping hot fresh food and drink. We made our first order in-writing on paper menus that we passed around the table. They also had an electronic-menu tablet, which some of us used during the meal. The menu was quite extensive, and I think it encouraged even the shy among us to be more adventurous :-) I'm putting *stars next to a few of our favorites, though it's not easy to un-star any of the dishes! We liked them all! We got *Pork Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao), savory and well-seasoned, enclosing a satisfying slurp of hot lightly-salty broth. *Wood Ear Mushroom Pork Dumplings were lightly-earthy and well-seasoned. MingHin's Shrimp Dumplings were fresh and tender. *Siu Mai Pork & Shrimp Dumplings had more savory seasoning. Shrimp Dumplings tasted bright with colorful Green Chives. *Steamed BBQ Pork Buns were sweet and tender and happily messy. Someone thinking healthily ordered bright crunchy Garlic American Broccoli, which we all liked. Scallion Pancakes were light and tasty. *Stuffed Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf gave us hearty chewy slightly-sweet rice wrapped in a mild tender leaf. Pan-Fried Turnip Cakes or maybe Taro Cakes are something we always get, really rather mild and neutral in flavor. Short Ribs with sweet sticky Honey Sauce were cut cross-wise so you get a string of several ovals of tender meat. *Crispy Pork Belly with Lotus Root were delicious and tender with a crispy surface, while the lotus disks were crunchy and mild. *Deep Fried Shrimp Rolls were slender rolls of thin-crispy flaky dough around delicious chopped shrimp. I insisted on Duck Wings with thick lightly-peppery Black Pepper Sauce, which were rich in flavor, though more skin-to-meat than I've had before, giving them more chewiness than I expected around the tender juicy duck. On a better note, *Sliced Roast Duck was heavenly, slightly crispy exterior around the rich flavor of juicy duck, with just a little breast-bone in there, a generous serving. *Deep Fried Sesame Balls were delightfully warm with a crispy outer layer and lightly sweet and chewy inside. *Puffy Egg Custard Tarts were creamy and rich and sweet. MingHin serves delicious fresh dim sum, made-to-order all day long, 8am or 9am to 11:45pm every day! We ordered and ate for nearly an hour, and they never rushed us. We had to work a little to finish the last few :-) We shared a great feast. I've read that the restaurant's name, "Ming Hin", could be an allusion to a dining experience that is lofty and refined. That concept is lovingly presented both in the cuisine and in the elegance of the decor. We heartily recommend MingHin Cuisine of Chinatown Square! We went on a weekend trip and Chinatown was bustling as usual including this restaurant but we were seated in under 20 minutes despite a packed and intimidating lobby, especially when you're hungry! The menus are available on iPads and the staff is regularly making rounds, they're clearly a well oiled machine. I last came to MingHin years ago - and my experience was really not that good, but decided to give them another shot - it was so much better this time! The employees were so much more attentive and friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious and fresh. The Mongolian beef is good (not very spicy), and the Kung Pao Shrimp was also good. The egg rolls are massive and really tasty - and I definitely recommend including a hot tea and hot & sour soup in the Chicago winters! Been coming to MingHin for the beef and noodles. Honestly, that's what keeps pulling me back. We started with the beef on a stick. It was incredible tender, juicy and really well seasoned. Like... dangerously good. Only four pieces, so it was gone in no time but it was really good. For the main, we got the stir-fried chow mein noodles. This one's a favorite of mine. The noodles had that perfect mix of crispy and soft, especially around the edges. Not greasy, not dry. Just right. The sauce clung to everything, and the smoky flavor really came through. The meat stayed tender, the seasoning was on point, and every bite had something going on. I kept picking at it even when I was full and the bowl was empty. Always a good sign. The place itself feels cozy but still lively. Good for a date or with family. Staff was friendly and checked in without hovering. Just a solid, comforting meal. I'll be back. I'm only giving this restaurant two stars because the staff was nice. Unfortunately, the restaurant itself was filthy, which made it difficult to enjoy my meal. I washed my hands before eating, and there was a strong urine smell in the hallway near the restroom. That immediately made me question the cleanliness of the kitchen as well. As for the food, I ordered the fried shrimp rice, General Tso's chicken, and lobster and shrimp with gravy. The General Tso's chicken was rubbery, and while the lobster and shrimp dish was decent, the gravy was way too watery. I honestly don't know how this place has a 3.9-star rating. The only reason I came here was because it was recommended online by a food influencer, so I was expecting a much better experience. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this restaurant.
