Small late night spot in the heart of China Town. Came here after watching a White Sox game and a lot of people were thinking the same thing we were for a later night meal. They have Cantonese style dishes as well as American Chinese, a little something for everyone. The chicken wings were well seasoned and crispy along with the French fries. The spicy beef tendon was soft, the veg was slightly undercooked just the way I like it. The noodles was a a little mushy and not very springy. The wontons were pretty good. I wish they could have turned up the AC as it was quite muggy. Will try some other dishes the next time in town.
Some of the best sesame chicken I've had in the city- all the other dishes were just ok! The service was kind of slow but there wasn't an empty seat in the restaurant. I loved the old school ambiance of the place. Really enjoyed the passion fruit and peach sweet tea. Want to come back to try their afternoon tea deal!
Haven't had Ken Kee in awhile. They've had new renovations that are very bold. There's booth and chair seating options. There were two other groups of people other than us. We sat down quickly but waited a good 10 minutes before anyone came to take our orders. There seemed to be a lot of staff behind the counter but only one girl was taking orders and bringing out food. The food was all delicious. The beef and broccoli was probably the most average. The Hong Kong milk tea was perfect. Overall, it was a great lunch.

To drink I had a Strawberry Smoothie, it was so refreshing! I ordered the Pork Dumplings. The Pork Dumplings were so delicious, that we feel they are some of the best we have ever had. My entrée was the Supreme Casserole (Abalone, Fish Maw, Whitaker Mushrooms and Chicken). We will be back! Everything we ate here was really delicious. Pro tip. There is paid street parking in the back. It's way easier to find than in the parking lots in front.

We had two bowls of pork and preserved egg congee, stir fried noodles, eggplant, fried bread and a side of curry fish balls. Everything we ate was delicious! The one thing to say is that the congee is large so do not order expecting to finish it all just by yourself. So tasty and we would definitely go again.

We are usually able to grab parking in the parking lot or find street parking in the neighborhood / side streets.
Low frills but great flavor and value! Items we ordered as of 8/2025 - Crab Rangoon (4) - 6.95 - Very thick and fully filled with cream cheese. I love crab rangoons and this was definitely a hit with me. - BBQ Pork Belly Rice Bowl w/ Sunny Side Up Egg - $12.95 - DELICIOUS! The pork belly was tender and had a perfect balance of fat to lean meat. Value wise this was a no brainer. 100% would order this again. - Szechuan Boiled Fish Fillet - $17.95 - VERY Mala so if that's your jam then get this! The quantity was superb for the price. Overall we were quite happy with our food and would gladly come back to try their other dishes!

The vibe really stands out! the neon lights and setup make it feel like you're actually in Hong Kong, which adds a lot to the experience. We came here on a busy day when everywhere else had super long waits time but this place had no wait at all. The menu is simple and has pictures which helped a lot. There's a good amount of seating, maybe for around 20 people max. We ordered the pork rolls, shumai, corn dish, fried chive dumplings, and sticky rice. The pork rolls and shumai especially were solid and I would get again! The sticky rice looked really good in the photo but was actually dry, hard, and completely had no flavor. I would skip that next time. Service was good and efficient. you can even watch them chop up the meats right in front of you in the front of the restaurant. I'd definitely come back to try the pork or duck next time.
My friends and I wanted asian food so we took the train to Chinatown and found this spot. It wasn't busy for a Friday lunch so we got seated quickly. The interior was nicely decorated to give off the Hong Kong vibe. Mong Kok (4/5): This bowl was packed! Definitely a big portion that you can share. It came with curry fish ball, sweet soy sauce chicken wing, beef brisket, radish, satay pork skin, chinese lettuce, and marinated soft boiled egg. I loved the curry fish balls! The chicken wing was so tender and had good flavor. The beef brisket was hearty. I didn't care too much for the pork skin or chinese lettuce. The noodles were bouncy. The broth was a bit oily, probably because of all the toppings. I enjoyed this spot! My friends liked their noodle dishes as well. I would probably come back and try other dishes. Service was quick and attentive.
Ken Kee, even though it changed hands prior to the remodel, has been a long-time family favorite for late dinners and afternoon snacks and take-out...and I do like Chinatown Square because you don't have to worry about cars once inside... Lately, we've really gotten into their Afternoon Tea which includes two types of French toast and we always get both...and I like both equally - especially the one filled with cream and topped with Ovaltine...but the Honey one is really good too...as you can see - I'm really torn between the two!! But the Pineapple bun option seems to be always sold-out?? You can have this with either a milk tea or lemon tea and personally, I would select the milk tea because it's sweeter and creamier. So many fond memories here at Ken Kee, of being with family and loved ones...the decor also makes me long to go back to HK, one day!! read more

Feels like authentic Chinese Food. Fun, bright, fun atmosphere and extremely speedy service. A go to lunch spot in China Town. Their flavored iced tea is yummy, the egg drop soup surprised me with having vegetables in it, the egg rolls were extremely hot (temp) and tasty. The meat doesn't seem like the highest quality, but it's still a spot I'd recommend. read more

Top Recommendations: Curry Beef Casserole, Deep Fried Fish with Salt and Pepper Ken Kee is located right in the center of the new Chinatown area and offers both traditional and American-style Chinese food. One of their feature dishes is the cart noodles, a local Hong Kong street food that traces back to vendors selling noodles from mobile carts on the street. It was crowded when we get there and we waited for 20 minutes for a table. This time, we ordered the Curry Beef Casserole, the Deep Fried Fish with Salt and Pepper, and a Chinese Chicken Soup. We really enjoyed the first two dishes. The beef brisket in the casserole was soft and tender, pairing perfectly with the onion and curry sauce. The fish was fresh, coated with a thin layer of flour, and seasoned with just the right amount of salt and pepper. Both dishes came out piping hot and full of flavor. I haven't been back to Ken Kee in 13 years, since 2012, and it was nice to have a past Yelp review to remind me of my last visit! They have a different owner now, and the restaurant has been remodeled to a more casual Hong Kong cafe style. There is also no more second floor operation. They still have an extensive menu and also now feature a lot of customizable noodle dish offerings. Anyway, my pal and I had dinner here before heading over to nearby Soldier Field for the AC/DC concert. We met at 5:15pm which was early enough to beat the dinner crowd and the restaurant did get totally full by 6:15pm with a queue of wannabe patrons. It was also a holiday weekend Saturday and parking for Chinatown Square looked hard to find at about 6:30pm as an fyi. The restaurant has a great, visible location right by the plaza's open square and I could see it attracting a lot of walk-in traffic. We ordered beef chow fun ($14.95), curry chicken rice bowl ($13.95), and a fried oyster appetizer ($8.95). They charged an extra $1 to make the chicken curry spicy, pffftt! We shared the generously sized dishes and it was all fresh and top-top delicious. The fried oysters were presented like jalepeno poppers. The dishes came out readily after ordering. They provided a carafe of water on the table which was convenient and service was attentive and just fine. Overall, it was a very nice dinner in a casual setting and with carryout leftovers to boot. I'll go with 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 for our outing. There's a lot of competition but I'll try to return again sometime. read more

I never had this bun with truffle butter ! Though l wish it was warmed up for us; it would have tasted better. Nonetheless, it was good but not as presentable like other places. The top crust does not resemble the pineapple look. It was more smooth and rounded. read more
If you want to go to a place that looks like one of those cha chaan teng (Hong Kong cafe's), Ken Kee is the place to go! I loved the decoration of the interior that reminds me of my short trip in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong style milk tea is a must and I got the bbq pork rice bowl with egg. It was pretty decent and my favorite is the pineapple bun with truffle butter. If you're definitely craving Cantonese food, this is the place to check out! read more
Really enjoyed eating at Ken Kee in Chinatown! Super quick to get a table and food. I'd recommend going with noodles as that seems to be their speciality. Went here with a group of 5 and we also tried crab rangoons which might have been some of the best I've ever tried, as well as dumplings. It was chaotic at times with food and drinks coming out randomly. Would have preferred some order with drinks, then apps, then mains. read more

We have not been to Ken Kee for at least 10 years and we decided to try them out again and it was a mistake. Besides the nice service which deserves 1 star and the nearly renovations which also deserves 1 star which totaled to 2 stars. That is it. Food was not good at all. We ordered one congee, 3 noodle soups, 2 pineapple buns and one rice dish. That is it and with tips and tax, it was $130!!! What??? For some noodle soup? The worse thing is, it was horrible in taste. It was bland and not worth it at all. I was sick to my stomach for the amount of money I paid for something so terrible. There are so many good restaurants and we picked the wrong one. I don't think my family and I will ever be back. read more

This was so good! It reminded me of a Toronto diner. This is not IG aesthetic--this is pure eats. I loved it. Probably not great for big groups, but can definitely accommodate up to 5 comfortably. What we got: Crab Efu - So saucy. So much flavor. Perfect chew to the noodles. Plus our kids loved it and ate so much! 10/10 Japanese Tofu and Pea tips - Packed with flavor! Our kids who don't love the texture of tofu actually ate this. What a win. This is one of my favorite dishes and it was tasty, silky, the pea tips were cooked perfectly. Excellent! Salted egg yolk Smelt - Crispy. Filled with umami. Not too greasy. It was great! Our kids couldn't get enough. We would probably come here just for this. 11/10 Hong Kong Milk Tea (hot) - I have not found milk tea like this anywhere! The body is rich and tea is strong. You can add in your own sugar to get it to your taste. I'm going to dream of this milk tea. The worst is when it's thin and watery. This is perfection. It satisfied my search for hong kong style milk tea and I can die happy knowing where to find it now. Our servers were quick, everything came out hot, everyone was really kind and accommodating. This is a Chinatown treasure and I hope nothing ever happens to it. read more
Decided to pop into Ken Kee an hour before closing and grab a quick bite. The server highly recommended the Seafood Laksa as it is a south Asian delicacy and unique dish to find in a Chinese restaurant. The broth was so yummy and good and a combo of tangy, refreshing, a just a little spicy (as per my request). The fresh crab and egg were amazing. I'm also not usually an imitation crab person (this soup has both) but it was prepared really nicely and I enjoyed it! Highly recommend, and despite how hot out it was today, this soup was not too heavy and refreshing. I also love the interior of this spot. Very War Kong Wai meets Americana diner. The restaurant was about 1/3 full at 9pm tonight and service was quick and everyone was nice. read more

Great spot if you want warm noodles during the cold, Chicago winters! I came with a friend and we were seated immediately. The interior is rather small but we didn't have any problem getting a table. They probably can't seat a party of more than 4 at one table, though. I made my own noodle bowl for only $10 and it tasted great. My friend got the orange chicken which she also enjoyed. Ken Kee is one of the restaurants that will validate your parking in the Chinatown parking lots. All in all, great place and wide range of foods to choose from. read more
This warm noodle bowl hit the right spot after walking a few blocks in the cold Chicago streets!! I know it's a little thing but I liked being able to just write down what I wanted on the little menu sheet for the "build your own bowl"!! We sat down right away and the food came out really fast which I appreciated bc I came in starving. My mouth is watering right now thinking about my noodle bowl. I got the homemade noodles and added imitation crab, wonton, and lettuce. My friends got a little something different and they all enjoyed their food too. The bowls were pretty decently priced too. I've wanted to try this place for a while given it's been heavily advertised by Instagram influencers. It's got traditional Hong Kong street style decor and certainly very photogenic. However the food was quite disappointing. We ordererd one of their signature noodles - lasaka seafood noodles. The lasaka broth was very heavy and creamy but only like warm. Everything that went into the broth was premade and had it's individual flavor but not a good combination...We also tried their HK street food platter - not edible...everything was cold and didn't taste fresh... Also avoid coming around lunch time as it gets crownded and hectic. read more

Went for the lunch special from 2-5 where you can get an entree with a hot/cold drink; ordered the nissie noodles and the coffee milk tea. Noodles were pretty good, but nothing special as was the coffee. Was a pretty loud but small restaurant with a very homey feel. The place has been renovated and is a lot trendier then I remembered. On an early Friday evening, the place was not as crowded. The menu had a lot of variety in it unless the Hong Kong style café that it started out as. We tried the Beef Daikon Casserole and Ken Kee Ginger Onion Chicken from their specialty section. Service was quick. The rice was a little too moist. At Asian restaurants, rice is a staple and being well made is a baseline expectation. The Beef Casserole had a think gravy to it and it was overwhelming to the dish. The dish was overcooked. The tendons soft when they should have some chewiness to them. The Ginger Onion sauce was OK and this dish came out as expected. Next time, I should try their noodles instead. read more

Ken Kee is a very clean and cutesy restaurant, serving Hong Kong style cart noodle that are delicious. The food comes out very quickly and hot! They have a BYO bowl for the cart noodles and I recommend the spicy beef broth and the sweet & sour chicken wing. The Thai Sweet Chili jumbo shrimp was so good that I had to go back the next day to get it again. The service was great and she even remembered me the next day and gave me my drink on the house. Ken Kee is one of my go-to, favorite spots in Chinatown. The food is yummy and no nonsense. I loved the ovaltine toast, fried rice and veggie dishes. The pineapple bun with truffle butter was a miss for me though. I didn't enjoy that combination of flavors and the bun itself was a little dry. The atmosphere at Ken Kee makes it stand out most. It has an old school Hong Kong cafe theme. The Cantonese music playing, retro posters, and neon signs all create a really nostalgic vibe for me which makes my experience eating there even better. It's been some time since we ate in at Ken Kee as we usually order delivery. I came with my kids this time. We ordered combination chow mein, s & p pork chops and a bbq pork rice bowl. Beef brisket soup with vermicelli rice noodles and baby bokchoy was delicious. Went there having a taste for a noodle dish and was sold on the build your own soup menu. You customize and circle your ingredients and was served within 5 minutes. Service and staff is great one of the top spots in China Town!! read more

This was a pretty good experience! My boyfriend and I went for a quick dinner somewhere near a concert that we were going to. The food and drink came pretty quickly for a packed Saturday night. We got the Chicken Chow Mein, the Szechuan Beef and a Hong Kong Milk Tea. The milk tea came within 3mins of ordering and it tasted great! It was something that I would sip while strolling around the square. It was not too sweet or too milky. 10/10 The Szechuan Beef was warm and spicy. The staff thankfully informed us that the sauce that the beef was served in was not soup and we should not drink it due to the spice level (my boyfriend agrees he would've died if he had drank it...it was very spicy). It came with rice and that balanced out the spice level. The spiciness was warm and flavorful, not just the only thing you tasted. 8/10 The Chicken Chow Mein was a crowd pleaser. It was standard wheat noodles with a very mild savory (with a dash of sweet) sauce, chunks of chicken (perfectly cooked so they weren't dry), baby bok choy and carrots. This dish was more of a sharing size since the bowl's diameter was about a foot wide. My boyfriend and I portioned it out for a bit but I ended up eating most of it. The dish was plentiful but I didn't walk out feeling nauseous or like I had to be rolled out of the place. The bok choy helped make the dish easily consumed at a high rate but also easily digestible. It was also cooked very well so it was soft to eat but still had a crunch. 8/10 And finally: the ambiance. This place is decorated very cute. There are neon lights everywhere and even the tables had collages on them. This is more of a place for groups of young adults/adults and dates. While it's friendly there, I wouldn't bring a family with little kids. The actual seating space itself is small with many tables. It's easy to walk around but have a stroller or running toddlers would not be a fun time for parents. That being said, the staff is very chill and don't interact with you very much unless you actively ask questions. They will leave you alone unless you seek them out so if you want staff that talks a lot, this won't be your vibe. I like staff that just lets people do their thing so I had a great time here. 8/10 read more
Unassuming spot where you can customize your own bowl of noodles! Our orders came out quite fast, and it hit the spot. I will say the BBQ pork was saltier than I thought it would be, but I would recommend the food here! The noodle dishes off the normal menu seem like they were meant to be family style. read more
