Small late night spot in the heart of China Town. Came here after watching a White Sox game and a lot of people were thinking the same thing we were for a later night meal. They have Cantonese style dishes as well as American Chinese, a little something for everyone. The chicken wings were well seasoned and crispy along with the French fries. The spicy beef tendon was soft, the veg was slightly undercooked just the way I like it. The noodles was a a little mushy and not very springy. The wontons were pretty good. I wish they could have turned up the AC as it was quite muggy. Will try some other dishes the next time in town.
Some of the best sesame chicken I've had in the city- all the other dishes were just ok! The service was kind of slow but there wasn't an empty seat in the restaurant. I loved the old school ambiance of the place. Really enjoyed the passion fruit and peach sweet tea. Want to come back to try their afternoon tea deal!
*FREE PORK DUMPLINGS* for Lunar New Year at @kenkee_restaurant Good thru 3/1/2026 We finally made it to Ken Kee restaurant in Chinatown in order to take advantage of their Lunar New Year special. I had a Mango Smoothie. It was so smooth, fresh, and delicious. We ordered the Free Pork Dumplings and Crab Rangoon. The Crab Rangoon (4) were delicious and really stuffed. They don't scrimp on ingredients here. I had the Supreme Bowl (Abalone, Fish Maw, Satay Wagyu, Beef Brisket, spicy minced Pork and Clam, Mushrooms in Abalone Sauce, Chinese Lettuce, and Marinated Soft Boiled Egg). Did we love everything that we ate here? Yes! We will be back! Don't miss your chance to take advantage of the FREE PORK DUMPLINGS for lunar New Year at Ken Kee! * with any $30+ valid for dine-in orders only. Cannot be combined withother offers.
Ken Kee - Busy, No-Frills, and Gets the Job Done Ken Kee feels like stepping straight into a classic Hong Kong-style spot. It's small, busy, a little chaotic in the best way, and very much about the food, not the frills. If you're looking for a quiet, romantic dinner... this is not that. If you want energy and quick, satisfying bites, you're in the right place. The menu is big, almost overwhelming at first, but that's part of the charm. There's something for everyone, whether you're craving noodles, rice, or something crispy and comforting. The kind of place where you point, order, and trust it'll work out. The food is solid across the board. Nothing overly fancy, but dependable, flavorful, and hits the spot. It's the kind of meal that leaves you full and content without overthinking it. Come hungry, expect a crowd, and don't overanalyze. Ken Kee knows exactly what it is, and it delivers on that.
Haven't had Ken Kee in awhile. They've had new renovations that are very bold. There's booth and chair seating options. There were two other groups of people other than us. We sat down quickly but waited a good 10 minutes before anyone came to take our orders. There seemed to be a lot of staff behind the counter but only one girl was taking orders and bringing out food. The food was all delicious. The beef and broccoli was probably the most average. The Hong Kong milk tea was perfect. Overall, it was a great lunch.
To drink I had a Strawberry Smoothie, it was so refreshing! I ordered the Pork Dumplings. The Pork Dumplings were so delicious, that we feel they are some of the best we have ever had. My entrée was the Supreme Casserole (Abalone, Fish Maw, Whitaker Mushrooms and Chicken). We will be back! Everything we ate here was really delicious. Pro tip. There is paid street parking in the back. It's way easier to find than in the parking lots in front.
It was a family night out in Chinatown, and it was our first time exploring and enjoying a walk through the area. We came across this restaurant, and my sister and I took our time looking through the menu to find a few dishes we wanted to try. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and we ended up ordering so much food! Every dish was worth it, and we had a wonderful experience. Definitely a memorable night filled with great food, family, and fun!
The service is quick, the food is delicious and the restaurant itself is fairly clean and organized. We had two bowls of pork and preserved egg congee, stir fried noodles, eggplant, fried bread and a side of curry fish balls. Everything we ate was delicious! The one thing to say is that the congee is large so do not order expecting to finish it all just by yourself. So tasty and we would definitely go again.
Ken Kee is my kiddo's favorite place to go to in Chinatown! I cannot believe I haven't written a review before! While the space is relatively small and busy, we are usually able to grab a table for 4! We typically order the chicken chow mein, orange chicken, anything with Milo on or in it. The space is beautiful and it feels like you are transported to a Hong Kong diner. No matter how busy, the staff are attentive, kind, and efficient. We are usually able to grab parking in the parking lot or find street parking in the neighborhood / side streets.
Low frills but great flavor and value! Items we ordered as of 8/2025 - Crab Rangoon (4) - 6.95 - Very thick and fully filled with cream cheese. I love crab rangoons and this was definitely a hit with me. - BBQ Pork Belly Rice Bowl w/ Sunny Side Up Egg - $12.95 - DELICIOUS! The pork belly was tender and had a perfect balance of fat to lean meat. Value wise this was a no brainer. 100% would order this again. - Szechuan Boiled Fish Fillet - $17.95 - VERY Mala so if that's your jam then get this! The quantity was superb for the price. Overall we were quite happy with our food and would gladly come back to try their other dishes!
We came here on a busy day when everywhere else had super long waits time but this place had no wait at all. The menu is simple and has pictures which helped a lot. There's a good amount of seating, maybe for around 20 people max. We ordered the pork rolls, shumai, corn dish, fried chive dumplings, and sticky rice. The pork rolls and shumai especially were solid and I would get again! The sticky rice looked really good in the photo but was actually dry, hard, and completely had no flavor. I would skip that next time. Service was good and efficient. you can even watch them chop up the meats right in front of you in the front of the restaurant. I'd definitely come back to try the pork or duck next time.
My friends and I wanted asian food so we took the train to Chinatown and found this spot. It wasn't busy for a Friday lunch so we got seated quickly. The interior was nicely decorated to give off the Hong Kong vibe. Mong Kok (4/5): This bowl was packed! Definitely a big portion that you can share. It came with curry fish ball, sweet soy sauce chicken wing, beef brisket, radish, satay pork skin, chinese lettuce, and marinated soft boiled egg. I loved the curry fish balls! The chicken wing was so tender and had good flavor. The beef brisket was hearty. I didn't care too much for the pork skin or chinese lettuce. The noodles were bouncy. The broth was a bit oily, probably because of all the toppings. I enjoyed this spot! My friends liked their noodle dishes as well. I would probably come back and try other dishes. Service was quick and attentive.
Top Recommendations: Curry Beef Casserole, Deep Fried Fish with Salt and Pepper Ken Kee is located right in the center of the new Chinatown area and offers both traditional and American-style Chinese food. One of their feature dishes is the cart noodles, a local Hong Kong street food that traces back to vendors selling noodles from mobile carts on the street. It was crowded when we get there and we waited for 20 minutes for a table. This time, we ordered the Curry Beef Casserole, the Deep Fried Fish with Salt and Pepper, and a Chinese Chicken Soup. We really enjoyed the first two dishes. The beef brisket in the casserole was soft and tender, pairing perfectly with the onion and curry sauce. The fish was fresh, coated with a thin layer of flour, and seasoned with just the right amount of salt and pepper. Both dishes came out piping hot and full of flavor. Check out the video of the Chinese soup!

This was a pretty good experience! My boyfriend and I went for a quick dinner somewhere near a concert that we were going to. The food and drink came pretty quickly for a packed Saturday night. We got the Chicken Chow Mein, the Szechuan Beef and a Hong Kong Milk Tea. The milk tea came within 3mins of ordering and it tasted great! It was something that I would sip while strolling around the square. It was not too sweet or too milky. 10/10 The Szechuan Beef was warm and spicy. The staff thankfully informed us that the sauce that the beef was served in was not soup and we should not drink it due to the spice level (my boyfriend agrees he would've died if he had drank it...it was very spicy). It came with rice and that balanced out the spice level. The spiciness was warm and flavorful, not just the only thing you tasted. 8/10 The Chicken Chow Mein was a crowd pleaser. It was standard wheat noodles with a very mild savory (with a dash of sweet) sauce, chunks of chicken (perfectly cooked so they weren't dry), baby bok choy and carrots. This dish was more of a sharing size since the bowl's diameter was about a foot wide. My boyfriend and I portioned it out for a bit but I ended up eating most of it. The dish was plentiful but I didn't walk out feeling nauseous or like I had to be rolled out of the place. The bok choy helped make the dish easily consumed at a high rate but also easily digestible. It was also cooked very well so it was soft to eat but still had a crunch. 8/10 And finally: the ambiance. This place is decorated very cute. There are neon lights everywhere and even the tables had collages on them. This is more of a place for groups of young adults/adults and dates. While it's friendly there, I wouldn't bring a family with little kids. The actual seating space itself is small with many tables. It's easy to walk around but have a stroller or running toddlers would not be a fun time for parents. That being said, the staff is very chill and don't interact with you very much unless you actively ask questions. They will leave you alone unless you seek them out so if you want staff that talks a lot, this won't be your vibe. I like staff that just lets people do their thing so I had a great time here. 8/10 read more
Unassuming spot where you can customize your own bowl of noodles! Our orders came out quite fast, and it hit the spot. I will say the BBQ pork was saltier than I thought it would be, but I would recommend the food here! The noodle dishes off the normal menu seem like they were meant to be family style. read more
One of the staples of Chinatown, Ken Kee is a Hong Kong style cafe with a huge variety of authentic dishes. We've been here several times and always leave feeling satisfied when we're craving some real Chinese/Cantonese food. First of all, the decorations are very cute with vintage posters/designs and they have plenty of seating, even an upstairs area. Their menu has something for everyone and they even have a custom noodle/rice bowl option that is super affordable and delicious. Deducting only one point given the minimal service and it's hard to get the waiter's attention usually but I guess that adds to the authenticity read more

I'm hoping to go back soon for this dish - it was served hot and it was delicious. I was sat in the upstairs area in the morning so it was very quiet. The charm of this place would be amplified x10 if you come during darker hours as you feel like you're right in Hong Kong. I ordered the pepper steak spicy and would recommend to anyone trying this place out read more
I spent three days in Chicago for a work trip and wanted to make the most of my short trip, so I decided to take a drive out to Chinatown. On the way, I looked up recommended places to eat and Ken Kee looked pretty promising. Unfortunately, it was just alright. The outside of the restaurant is probably something to look at at night when all the neons are on, but the inside has a really cool retro styling with vintage-inspired lighting, neon signs, and kitschy posters. There were only two parties eating when I walked in, but it took a minute for the three people working to acknowledge me and even then, I got a half-hearted gesture toward a table and barely a hello. Service remained strange and lackluster throughout the meal. The waiter seemed a little standoffish and doubted that I knew how to order from the build-your-own-noodle-bowl menu, which, even if I wasn't extremely familiar with due to all the Asian restaurants here in the Bay Area that use them, would've been extremely simple to understand otherwise. Weirdness aside, I built my own bowl: - Base: plain noodle soup - Toppings: beef brisket - Noodle: handmade noodles - Broth: signature beef broth - Belly sauce - Medium spicy sauce - Green onions My food came out really fast and while it was a good portion, everything was somewhat middling. The flavors were a little lackluster, the spice was nearly nonexistent, and the beef brisket was a little fattier than I would've liked (though it was extremely tender). Good amount of noodles though, which were cooked perfectly. The bowl plus a can of Coke and tip came out to a little over $17. I'd be willing to go back (if I ever go back out to Chicago) to try some of their other dishes, but would likely want to prioritize trying some of the other places in the area first. read more

Came here with friends the other night for dinner and we all really enjoyed this spot. I have to start off by noting how cute the interior design is with all of the neon signs and the red and green accents. Super cool vibe and it definitely added to the experience. The food here was great! We got some fried pork dumplings and crab rangoons to share as an appetizer and both were great and came out super hot. I forgot to take a picture of what I ordered but it was some crispy pork that was good and had a lot of flavor. My boyfriend got the combo fried rice which was also good. I tried some of my vegetarian friends tofu dish and I really liked that as well. Overall I would definitely recommend this spot if you're wanting to go somewhere cute in Chinatown read more
I miss Hong Kong food and this spot is the perfect spot. The nostalgic bold neon signs along with building your own cart noodles, it's the perfect way to be back in HK without being there. The service is quick and efficient. read more

So glad to find a HK/Cantonese diner in town - they have the classic dishes like rice noodles with egg gravy, HK french toast etc. The crab rangoons (surprising find) are the best I've ever had. Also highly recommend the coffee mixed with milk tea, which I don't find anywhere else. Service is quick and friendly. read more
Pretty solid spot for lunch - Ken Kee is known for their soup noodles but we opted to share a couple of dishes. We got the signature beef casserole, e-fu noodles with scallop and mushrooms, and the crispy salted egg yolk fish fillet. Everything was pretty good but we didn't actually find scallop in the noodles and the beef casserole which came with wintermelon was oddly very watery which we didn't expect. It was almost more of a soup. The best part were the drinks though as I love yuenyeung (or hong kong style tea mixed with coffee) and this one was perfect. We got it full sugar but it wasn't too sweet with the right amount of condensed milk. It was great iced for a hot day. read more

Only a few tables at this ground-level eatery on a prominent corner inside Chinatown Mall. Experience was fine, but with so many other places to try, we would visit anther first before returning. Food sounded amazing and the environs were snazzy and fun. Ordered the customizable noodle soup dish. You get a slip of paper and pick the items you want. I don't think I overstuffed my bowl, but for $6 the 'beef & tendon' was only like, 3 bites-worth. 'Handmade noodles' were apparently not available and they didn't inform us? so the ones that came in my soup and the extra order of noodles seemed much more uniform and thin than I would have expected. I might have ordered a different noodle had I known. The broth was pretty good, but the bowl in its entirety was what I would expect at a better-than-average food court, so not a rave review from me. read more
Standouts are the Thai chili pork chops it's good because it's crispy and you can taste the salt and sweet at the same time. Ginger scallion lobster of course(see previous review) and the garlic crispy shrimp. The large shrimps has enough bite in terms of hotness, it's crispy perfectly seasoned. The stirfry rice noodle with beef otherwise known as chow fun to Asians was just OK. The salt and crispy squid was just OK too. It wasn't as crispy as I wanted it not as salty as I wanted. Pricing here though is more than fair. All of that with the Lobster came to $95. Before tax and tip. read more

Such an adorable Hong Kong cafe with nostalgic decor! They have an amazing 下午茶(afternoon tea) menu - $10 for a hot drink of choice and a smaller sized dish/dessert. It's only available weekdays from 2-5pm. Our server spoke Mandarin and was so nice about changing our order after we realized we changed our minds (30 seconds afterwards)! We got the beef brisket noodles, the instant noodles stir fry, and the Swiss chicken wings with fries. The Swiss chicken wings could've used more time marinating in the sauce, though the fries it came with were so so crispy! The instant noodles were yummy, and the beef brisket noodle was the best deal by far! read more

Decided to try Ken Kee for the first time. Ordered for delivery and food was tasty and delicious. The Salt and Pepper Fish, Beef Chow Mein, Scallion Wagyu Beef, and Clams with Black Bean Sauce all came with generous portions. The Beef Brisket and Tendon casserole was very good but I wish there were more tendons. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and will definitely be repeat customers. read more
This place has great food in Chinatown & friendly staff. The build your own noodle bowl is unique and you can add the type of noodles & additions you want in the ramen bowl. The ambiance is warm and inviting. My favorite parts were actually the drinks, I loved the brown sugar boba and the lychee tea. Great spot to even pick up a tea and walk around Chinatown :) read more

Loved the noodles here! You can personalize them to your taste and spice tolerance. My favorite part of the dish was actually the vegetables - the enoki mushroom and bokchoy were so tender and juicy with broth. I hear this is a great late night spot as well. Service was great and fast - I can't wait to be back! read more
Before checking out China town i obviously had to make a list of the notable restaurants to check out. Ken Kee was on that list. After having dinner here, my overall review is that the food is good but there are definitely better options. I can't quite remember the same of the soup that I ordered but it was pretty decent, similar to the rest of the food ordered. Nothing ground breaking IMO. The reason why I say this is because my soup was on the verge of being cold, and the chicken wing on the soup did not taste fresh at all. In Chinatown there are so many options that I would recommend trying another spot :)! However besides the food itself. Service was efficient and the interior is pretty aesthetic and inviting. read more
Ordered once on Ubereat, the food wasn't bad and standard level. Signature Rice Bowl: I ordered radish, spicy beef tripe, spicy bamboo shoots, and enoki mushrooms. However, it did not come with spicy beef tripe, instead there were half of egg and bok choy (not sure if it just comes with it or it's a substitute for my spicy beef tripe). I really like the radish, very juicy, tender and sweet. I didn't really enjoy the spicy sauce, very heavy and oily. The rice texture was really soft and "light." Overall, it is a good choice for a quick meal. read more

We've been here for quite a few times already. If you can't decide what to eat when you're in Chinatown like us per usual, definitely come check this place out. They have a big selection on the menu, from appetizer, rice dishes, noodles, create your own noodles and such. It's Hong Kong cafe "cha chaan tang" type of spot, we opted in for the beef chow fun this time and the seafood crispy noodles. The beef chow fun was pretty good, tasted authentic. The seafood crispy noodle isn't bad, but too much gravy on it and a bit lack of flavor. We usually get those custom noodle bowls which you can pick your own broth, toppings, noodles or rice. Price is reasonable and they also validate parking if you park in that lot. There could be a wait on the weekends!!!! They also offer afternoon tea on the weekdays on selected items for $10 with a drink included!! Check this place out next time you're in Chinatown and want to experience Hong Kong cafe style food! read more

This spot had such a cool vibe and delicious food! I loved the ambience, with all the neon signs. It's actually owned by the same person who owns Gangnam Market, which also boasts the same cool vibe and signature neon decor. We came on a Sunday around noon and were seated immediately. The spot was populated but not too packed. Service was speedy! The food came out soon after we ordered and was hot and fresh! We ordered the seafood laksa and the Japanese egg tofu. Both were incredibly delicious!! The seafood laksa was PACKED with flavor and the bowl was a very large serving size. However my favorite was the Japanese egg tofu as I've never had anything like it! The tofu was a fun round shape, fried on the outside, and steaming hot and fluffy soft and silky on the inside. I think the greens were watercress or morning glory (I'm not sure!) But I loved how it soaked up all the sauce. So flavorful and amazing with the white rice that came with it. It was also very filling and I took a good amount home. Definitely recommend this spot and can't wait to come back! read more

You have to know what to order of the menu. My favourites were the build your own noodles and salted egg crabs. read more
First off, I just love the decor in here! It's so lively and there's so much to look at. (especially when it takes a while to flag down your waiter). But once we ordered, all of the food came out relatively quickly. We got the seafood laksa which was so delicious but could have been spicier in my opinion. The only real pain was having to peel the shrimps. The Japanese egg tofu was so soft and fluffy, and not too salty which was perfect. I wish the Hong Kong street food platter was customizable, but yet another good dish to get. The wings were big and tender. But the curry balls are really the only thing I would get again. The fried mantou was hot and crispy and they gave us more than enough condensed milk. I've been to some places where they're super stingy with the condensed milk so this was a big plus. There were so many other things on the menu that I want to try, so I'll definitely have to come back! read more

This establishment gets four stars because the prices are affordable, and stellar customer service! I was seated quickly and assisted carefully by our sever. I just wasn't a fan of the food. It felt and taste sub par. Like don't get me wrong, the food tasted great but it felt like something was missing. The deep fried oysters were lacking flavor and super greasy. As for the wing, it should've been a full wing. Not half so that was a bit disappointing. As for the curry, it was mostly onion with 4 pieces of chicken and two potato bits in there. The flavor of the curry was good and was filling but curry isn't full of onions. I should've know better ordering curry from a restaurant where that's not their speciality. read more
I'm always crazy about the food at Ken Kee! This is my third time visiting and food has always been consistently delicious and flavorful. The HongKong street food platter is a great starter (I always make sure to order it for the table) This time I ordered the Lai Man Congee because I got some teeth pulled out yesterday and it's so comforting and delicious. My boyfriend got to build his own HK cart noodle and I was so jealous because of how delicious it was! The spicy pork intestine was like butter. Amazing. Their rice noodles with XO sauce are also so yummy (I didn't get it this time but it's so good). I also recommend their fruit teas! So refreshing and sweet. Only downside is that the service can be a bit so-so and some of the prices on certain items are ridiculous (I ordered a preserved egg on the side and they charged me 3 dollars. Insane.) I also don't like the styrofoam cups for water. Otherwise, love this place and will be coming back. read more
The food was not good we ordered the seafood fried noodles which is the most okay among our order. Also, the do your choice noodles was not good at all, too much soy sauce saltiness, the bowl rice serving was so small for the price. We taken out salt n pepper pork chop and has a lot of bones. Overall food was not tasty at all. The service was not good at all the first food was served and we finish it since we are hungry and after 15mins i have to follow up for the rest of our order. It was not busy at all around 3pm. The place doesn't look clean. The servers were okay. If I am coming back 100% NO. read more
The restaurant decorations are fun: there are two levels and the second level has color paintings/caricatures of 20th century Hong Kong/Southern China. It's quite different than what you would get from any other restaurants. The staff themselves are very efficient: I was handed the menu fairly quickly and I didn't have to wait too long for my food to come out. The place allows you to create your own noodle bowl, which is what I went with. There are all kinds of options for meat and customization - everything you could need in a noodle bowl is probably on this menu. I added fish ball curry (delicious), pork abodomen (cooked to perfection), and blood (excellent texture) in mine. They all automatically come with half an egg and bok choy - but you can also added them additionally for a bit extra. I went with a laksa type of broth and found that a bit disappointing: it didn't have a super strong flavor so I think their default, regular broth would've been sufficient: I would recommend not doing the laksa option. The food is definitely enough for a full meal. I ordered a lychee jasmine tea with boba and this was the disappointing part: the boba was not good. It had a weird texture and tasted mushy (overcooked) instead of the usual chewiness you'd get. The tea itself was good - but it was really not good boba. read more

The place was really busy on a weeknight. We waited around 15-20 mins to get seated. They have cute decorations and neon lights signs! We ordered: - Ken Kee House Special Vermicelli: lots of ingredients and the noodles were still chewy. Not overly oily which I liked. - Ken Kee fried rice: wow the best dish we got! Soo flavorful and slightly spicy. The was fried enough and the color looked delicious. - Crispy Fried rice with seafood: good option if you want a seafood dish but not as flavorful as Ken Kee fried rice. Overall, good place to stop by if you're hungry and in the Chinatown area! Their portions are huge so def would recommend sharing and trying dif dishes. One downside was that I couldn't find baked dishes on the menu like there are at other HK cafes but they have plenty of other options. read more
Ken Kee Restaurant is located down in the Chicago Chinatown area. Being deprived of authentic Chinese food in Cleveland, my friend really wanted to visit this Hong Kong café during our visit to Chicago. We read that they get really busy, and it was Mother's day, my friends and I planned to arrive at opening to seize a table. Our plan was flawlessly executed. Being close friends and foodies, the three of us decided to share food and enjoy the meal family style. We shared the Hong Kong Street Food Platter ($9.95), Pork with Preserved Egg Congee ($13.95/large), and their Ken Kee House Special Vermicelli ($16.95). For drinks my friends both had their iced Mixed Coffee and Tea ($3.95) and I had the iced Double Lemon Tea ($3.95). Hong Kong Street Food Platter - This platter contains curry fish balls, satay pork skin, and sweet chicken wings. I liked the curry fish balls. The satay pork skin had a spicy kick but interesting to try. My friends had the chicken wings and said it was comparable to their experience in Hong Kong. Pork with Preserved Egg Congee - Congee for breakfast is so nice. It's warm and has a tasty blandness about it. I thought the portion was a generous size and there was plenty of pork and preserved egg. It was a good pairing to the other more flavorful items. Ken Kee House Special Vermicelli - My friends pointed out that they mixed together rice noodles and glass noodles in this dish. It also had bbq pork, dry scallop, beef, jumbo shrimp, bean sprouts and yellow chives. The portion was huge and plentiful. One down side is that our drinks took forever to come out. I think we were 2/3 done with our meal before we got our drinks. I thought my drink was on the extremely sweet side, but it tasted better as the ice melted down. Definitely a no frills type of meal. The congee bowl came out with soup dripping down the sides. We had to wipe down our cups to avoid getting our hands sticky. Service is minimal and you might need to wave them down for the check. Nevertheless still an affordable tasty filling meal. read more
A Chinatown staple that I've had since I was in grade school. They've changed ownership since I was younger, but a lot of the staple menu items growing up are still there. To me, it's always a good pick if you're hungering for some solid cantonese food. There might be more "exciting" and new restaurants popping up around Chinatown square (i.e. MCCB) or more American-friendly ones (i.e. Joy Yee's), but I find not having to wait in-line and having the food I used to eat with my family whenever we'd eat out growing up to be really comforting. Dishes are pretty standard-fare. For obvious reasons that you're in Chinatown and not your random strip-mall Chinese takeout spot, I would recommend avoiding the more Americanized dishes like beef and broccoli or fried rice. Go-to items, although basic, definitely are my comfort foods: - Water Cress with Dace Fish Ball (probably one of my favorite soups, super umami) - Salt & Pepper Fish Fillet - Japanese Egg Tofu with Pea Tips - Thousand Island Sauce Pork Chop Pricing seems about what you'd expect in Chinatown these days. Nothing dirt cheap, but also nothing outrageous in my opinion. Not sure why people are upset that dishes can cost $15 when these are the same people going to an Italian spot willing to put down $25 for a bowl of red tomato pasta. It all takes work and skill to make it. A logistical note, Chinatown parking is always nuts, but these are one of the places that can give you a parking validation ticket on your way out for $2 parking in the lots east of Chinatown. A last-minute decision to go to Chinatown for dinner on a bustling Saturday summer evening led us to long waits at some restaurants. My friend had seen an Instagram reel on this restaurant so we decided to go here and got seated within five minutes. With three of us not too hungry we decided to go with two main dishes and a side dish of vegetables. My one friend is averse to too much spice otherwise we would've requested a hotter spice level. That said the fried rice and noodles were tasty but not as flavorful as I would have liked and could've been spicier. Love, loved the green beans though. I've had such great luck ordering green beans at any of these Chinese restaurants and they are amazing! Perfectly cooked, a little crisp, very hot, not spicy but temperature hot and not too oily or too much sauce. It's a hustling and bustling restaurant and service was good. read more
Ken Kee is definitely a spot to hit if you find yourself in Chinatown! On a Saturday night with no reservation, it was hard to find somewhere with a small wait time, but thankfully Ken Kee (with two floors of seating) had us sat and served in just thirty minutes. We ordered the rice noodle with pepper steak which was my favorite, fresh vegetables, perfectly cooked noodles and a delicious sauce. The garlic string beans were also amazing, perfectly crisp in a light, flavorful sauce. The shrimp fried rice was average, we had to add a lot of chili oil to give it some flavor. Overall though, with the 1950's neon interior and expansive menu, Ken Kee did not disappoint! read more
