My friend brought me here. It was good we got the crab Rangoon, orange chicken, vegetable fried rice and a taro milk tea with tapioca. They were extremely busy but we were sat down within a few minutes. Food came fast too. The ambiance is Chinatown Asian vibe. There's large table and chair seating for small and large groups. Parking can be a challenge if street parking.
Best Chinese sit-down spot I've been to in Chicago so far! It has a very mom-and-pop feel. The decor is a little older, but it fits the casual vibe perfectly. Service was nice overall. The only issue was they probably forgot our salmon nigiri since it didn't come out until after we finished eating and reminded them. The Mongolian beef was the best version I've had in Chicago so far. The texture was perfect, the meat wasn't fatty, and it wasn't oily at all. I just wish the sauce was a little sweeter. 8/10. The scallion pancakes were incredible. Super crispy, flaky, and not greasy. Definitely one of the best I've had. 9.5/10. The chicken soup dumplings were good, but a little inconsistent. Some were packed with soup while others lost most of it. 8/10. The biggest surprise was the egg tofu with enoki mushroom. The tofu was silky, the enoki added great texture, and the flavor was delicious. Easily the best egg tofu I've had. 9/10. The salmon nigiri was fine, but didn't stand out. I did love their ginger though. It was sweet and not overly spicy.
What a great find! We came on a busy Friday night and their downstairs restaurant was full so we got sent upstairs to their overflow spot and we were collectively grateful for this so we could enjoy a quieter dinner together! All the food was so delicious, really enjoyed the dumplings and the crab rangoon. I'm so picky about my crab rangoons and they were fried perfectly with a delicious creamy inside!! Big fan of the baby buk choy too, was seasoned perfectly. Our waitress was such a sweetie! Easy to joke with and was all around so lovely. Definitely want to come back!!
Delicious food and quick service. We stopped in for a snack and loved the soup dumplings. They were so delicious and filling. We also got a sushi roll and it was great too ! It is small inside but there is plenty of seating.
It was our first time here and probably last. Unfortunately the food fell short and was just okay. The hand pulled noodles did not look nor taste hand pulled. When you order hand pulled noodles you expect the slight chewiness and texture that they are known for. The salt and pepper pork had a battered coating much like that of sweet and sour chicken and not the thinner version you get elsewhere. The salt and pepper taste were lacking. The xiao long bao was probably the only thing we really enjoyed. Service was speedy and the food came out fast. Unfortunately there are too many other restaurants for us to visit to come back for just a meh experience.
Food quantity is the best. Every single dish that we ordered is shareable and delicious. So pricing is not that bad considering that everything is shareable. Our total came up to $58.62 after ordering 1 boba, 1 appetizer, 1 soup, 1 XLB, & 1 fried rice. This food quantity would have been enough for 3-4 people to share depending on how much you eat. Service is a little lacking when it comes to checking on you but if you flag a server, they'll attend to your needs immediately. Ambiance is an authentic mom & pop Chinese restaurant. Big tables, shareable dishes. TIP: If you like condiments such as siracha or hoisin, you have to ask.
Hing Kee is definitely worth a stop, but just know you might have a bit of a wait. The wait was longer than we would've liked, but the restaurant isn't that big, so I totally understand how it can back up during busy times. Once we were seated, the restaurant was standard looking and clean. The food made up for it. The egg rolls were super fresh, hot, and perfectly seasoned with a great crunch. The General Tso chicken was the star though, really flavorful with a nice balance of sweet and heat, and there was this bright hit of orange zest that made the whole dish stand out. Overall, great food and I'd come back, I'd just plan ahead and expect a wait.
Hing Kee has a huuuuuge menu, but I only wanted dumplings because I wanted to eat at other places too. Ordered the pork xiao long bao and the shrimp & pork dumplings in szechuan chili oil. Didn't get much of that soupy goodness with the XLB because each one was unfortunately leaking already before I even touched them. So all in all, the dumplings were good, but were they amazing? No. I was disappointed, but still liked the dumplings even though there was no soup in them. Service was whatever and the table we were sat at was a bit dirty. The Vietnamese coffee was awful too. I figured it wouldn't be good as I wouldn't order something Vietnamese at a Chinese place, but husband really wanted coffee. Don't order it haha
The food that was served was not what we would expect. The dumplings were broken, and the lemon grass wings tasted like fried wings. The service provided was acceptable, but not for an 18% gratuity. The ambiance of the establishment was normal and pleasant. The worst experience was the men's restroom which reminded me of a wet dog aroma.
This place needs to be more popular!! The food is heavenly! The food was so good, I didn't take pics of everything cuz I got really busy eating The flavors were dancing in my mouth! I had a couple of vegetarian items- mapo tofu and friend eggplants. My family had a few chicken dishes and each one loved it all. The table next to us got some fried rice and the aroma made me hungry immediately after finishing my dinner. I know what I'm getting next time. This restaurant is in the middle of China Town, so parking is always a challenge, but put in the effort and get here cuz it's worth it.
This restaurant is located in Chinatown. It is a very small establishment, seating is limited. We sat down & placed our order pretty quickly. We ordered the chicken dumplings and combination fried rice. I also got a brown rice, green tea. The combination fried rice came out first it wasn't fresh. It was served to us a bit lukewarm. Decent size dish, it can serve up to two people. The rice was very mid in flavor. It lacked the traditional fried rice taste. We requested chili oil to savor our food. The chili oil added a good heat to it. The chicken dumplings were excellent. You do get quite a bit. Me and my partner shared them and had a few left over to take home. My brown rice tea was excellent nice and light green tea flavor with a nutty rice undertone. The cleanliness of the outside area where we all eat at was pretty up to par. However, the bathrooms were disgusting as soon as you walk back there before even entering the bathroom it smells atrocious. I walked into the women's restroom. It was a pigsty. I saw something floating above the door doorway and it was a roach caught in a spiderweb. It doesn't even feel safe to wash your hands in there it is that dirty. They need to do something about that because that is a representation of how they are treating their kitchen back there because it is right next to the kitchen. I did feel some kind of way after eating and seeing that but Hopefully they get their bathroom together other than that I did enjoy my experience here. I might come back because they have so many great options on their menu and I'm interested in trying a few other things. The service was good. They accommodated us intended to all of our needs.

I wanted soup dumplings while in Chicago and found this spot while searching online. Nate and I walked in around 8 pm on a weekday and were able to get a table right away. The menu is huge, but we were focused - we got an order of pork xiao long bao and shrimp toast. Service is no frills and efficient. The dumplings came out steaming hot and they were full of pork. A few did stick to the basket and ripped, so that was a little sad, but they were flavorful and tasty. I loved the shrimp toast - it was crispy and savory, and covered in sesame seeds. I would definitely come back for more soup dumplings and other dishes. The portions for main items looked huge, and it would be a great place for groups.
Last minute decision to grab some food and we stopped in and it was great service! We got seated right away. We ordered shrimp fried rice, scallion pancakes, miso soup, and spring rolls. It's a cool setup and the food was fresh. Looking forward to returning! read more
Kari's Rating 8/10 This is my only place I ever come to for soup dumplings in Chinatown. We wanted to order a few different things so we also were able to order the orange chicken, the Korean barbecue short rib ribs, and of course the pork and shrimp dumplings. The first batch of soup dumplings were broken and I asked politely if they could redo the order as all of the soup was underneath the plate through the steamer. Our server was incredibly nice about it, and they took full responsibility as they prepared us a fresh batch. I really appreciate the extra time they took to remake them as 6/8 were broken. I've not ordered the orange chicken before, and it was a little too orangey. If you can imagine like it almost tasted like a thick orange juice syrup, but the chicken was relatively crispy and the portion sizes were pretty large. It also came with a side of rice, which was plenty for the both of us. The Korean short ribs were also really good and were also relatively plentiful, but a few pieces were very chewy and a little bit grizzly so that made it difficult to swallow. They were very full of flavor, but I think the texture was just a little bit rubbery. Overall, again, I think this is a really good place to go to for soup dumplings, and the rest of the food is over overall kind of meh. But I didn't mind it because I've been coming here for years and I try to be a loyal customer. read more
Scallion pancakes were really good and flaky if a bit heavy/buttery. The soup dumplings were tasty, but got a little stuck to the paper and often torn open and leaked before we could eat them. The Dan Dan noodles were definitely more of a noodle soup. They were tasty and not too spicy, though I usually like them creamier with a peanuty taste. The beef didn't have too much flavor. Food: Szechwan Style Stir Fried String Beans - your standard string bean dish and how you'd imagine it to taste. wasn't mind blowing but still good and good shareable portion. Xiao Long Bao Pork Soup Dumplings - soupy and flavorful! came out just how like my soup dumplings to be. i love to eat this with chili oil or vinegar! Xiao Long Bao Chicken Soup Dumplings - yummy if you prefer chicken as your protein and it's also laid on a bed of cabbage. soupy and flavorful as well! Stir Fried Soy Sauce Flat Noodles - flat noodles are on a more soft side and the beef isn't too salty (a problem i ran into at some other places serving the same dish) loved the veggies with this as well. also a good shareable portion Service: decent service here. very straightforward! Great service, not so great soup dumplings. I really wanted to like the xiao long bao here, but sadly every single one of them came broken at the bottom so the soup leaked out before I could even taste it. We asked the waitress if we could get another batch in case this was a faulty one. Same issue with the next one. Unfortunately I can't recommend their soup dumplings. Yeah, generally when I'm in town, I do like to come over here and visit. I'm a creature of habit and I know there's other places to try in Chinatown but I really come here for about three or four dishes. Today was no exception. I opted for the egg rolls and the Chinese broccoli and beef lo mein with the soft noodle. It was a quiet Friday afternoon due to the severe weather so it was nice not to have to wait. Service was friendly and helpful. It would've been a great day for any of the noodle soup bowls. Both the eggroll and broccoli beef noodle dish were excellent. I ended up taking the leftovers home. I will definitely come back when I visit. Known for their soup dumplings - I did not have them this time, but they are really good as are of the scallion pancakes. read more
Taking a star off because the bathroom is kind of gross and the hallway to wait for an open bathroom is stinky sometimes. The food however is SO GOOD. I love the handmade noodles, the last time I went I got the wontons with handmade noodles..big bowl and I finished! The iced HK Milk tea is good too! Service is good, it's quick. Sometimes there's a wait but if you go early enough you might get seated pretty quick. The soup dumplings are also SOO GOOD. read more

A couple local chinese friends recommended this place over that other popular xiao long bao place.... A bit janky... but oh man thats how you know this place is gonna be good. Came at a busy hour and the lady just handed us a scrap paper with a random number and just told us to come back in 10 minutes. No idea how it worked but it did. Soup dumplings were soupyyy, a bit doughy on the top but bursting with flavor. Noodle texture on point, their dan dan noodle ($12) was GINORMOUS, so flavorful, not too salty. Not a fan of ground beef in noodles since its hard to eat, but it was soooo good and I was scraping the bottom. You really can't beat this price or flavor. This place embodies chinatown vibes and im here for it. read more

Amazing service and delicious food! We stopped in during a very hot summer day and sat outside. Loved the crispy shrimp balls and my spicy salmon roll was very fresh! Definitely recommend while exploring Chinatown. read more
Food: 4/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 4/5 I picked Hing Kee because it has a lot of options from different Asian cuisines. The wontons are delicious, the pulled noodles with chicken was also good but the broth felt a little watery but not much. We had Teryaki Beef and that was really bad. Service was a little slower and not that helpful. They had parts of the order wrong. read more
Did not have a good experience here- first of all when we came to get seated we went inside and some guy brought us back into the pre-restaurant tiny waiting area and put the number 2 onto a list and gave us a piece of paper with "8" on it indicating our spot in line. We walked around for like 15 minutes and came back, and there was another couple in the waiting area. I asked them if they were number 7, and they said they did not get put on the list but were told it would only be a few minutes wait, and that a party of 4 had just walked in before them and got seated immediately. When a worker came into the waiting area to help, he had no idea who to seat first and was confused about the waitlist the other guy had started. Eventually he talked to the other guy and we got seated, but the whole thing was pretty ridiculously unorganized. Then we sat down and got the menus which are pretty extensive. Many marked vegetarian options, many of which seem to be vegan as well. I ordered the vegetable dumplings and my sister got pork soup dumplings. Her soup dumplings came after around 15 minutes but we waited probably at least 30 for my vegetable dumplings for some reason. The vegetable dumplings were very disappointing. I think they literally forgot to put salt in the filling because they were very bland unless dunked in soy sauce and even then they were not very good. However my sister really really enjoyed her soup dumplings and she tried some of my vegetable dumplings and thought they were pretty good. So maybe this place is just not for me. When I asked the server if we could put the items on separate checks he said no because the total was under $40. Personally I would not recommend this place- food and service both below average. read more
Solid Chinatown spot with plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. They allow dogs outdoors! The menu is a thousand pages long so you will definitely find something for everyone! The mix of Chinese food and sushi was fun. read more

Everything comes with onion says server, but menu does say comes with onions. You get more onions on this food than meat. Never knew rice comes with onions didn't know steak comes with onions. Orange chicken didn't comes with onions chicken nuggets didn't come with onions. Didn't get a plate refund or fixed for this mistake. Pictures will say everything. There's lettuce not onions on everything. Can you fix this problem for everyone. Again don't say everything has onions if not everything has onions read more
The space is so tight, could not fit everyone comfortably. It was extremely busy for being a pocket restaurant. The bathroom is a tough wait for the ladies. The food was top notch! Would return but by myself or one person! read more
We rang in the New Year by being impromptu and trying this place as a means of settling since MCCB was full by 8pm. I'm so glad they were because this was a PLEASANT surprise. In fact, I've yet to be so surprised when it comes to unexpected delicious food in my entire life. On top of quality and delicious food...the price was insanely affordable. I knew it was real and the former would have been way overpriced for all the hype that surrounds it. Don't get me wrong, almost any restaurant you choose in Chinatown will be delicious but in my experience I have had high hopes with even greater let downs. Choosing this place on a Saturday night was the best food decision we've made in a long time. Crab Rangoon, Szechuan wontons, their classic pork soup dumplings, combo fried rice & Dan Dan noodle soup. All were absolutely delectable so much so there weren't any leftovers to take to go! Don't let the poor reviews fool you, this place is top notch! Good service and decently sized seating area as well. read more

One of my favorite places for soup dumplings and good noodle soups. The restaurant is in new China town and is usually packed, so you may have to wait. The staff is friendly and turn around is pretty quick, so once you do get a table the food comes fast. Quick. Delicious and no non-sense. :) their soup dumplings were great. And Chinese broccoli in garlic sauce, salt and pepper tofu and eggplant were crispy and good. Whenever we go to this tournament in the city this is our go to spot. read more

Do they have a variety of soup dumplings or just crab with pork? Was hoping for at least just pork.
Yes, they do have different ones. The traditional one is pork only.
