(Kari's Rating 9.9/10) Came for lunar new year with a friend, came right about 6 PM and got seated right away. Ordered two orders of the pork Xiaoling bao. This has to be my absolute favorite place for soup dumplings, I would take this place over your triple crown, and QXY. The trick is eating these soup dumplings before the bottoms give out and the soup explodes as you have to eat them a little bit fast.

Hing Kee is definitely worth a stop, but just know you might have a bit of a wait. The wait was longer than we would've liked, but the restaurant isn't that big, so I totally understand how it can back up during busy times. Once we were seated, the restaurant was standard looking and clean. The food made up for it. The egg rolls were super fresh, hot, and perfectly seasoned with a great crunch. The General Tso chicken was the star though, really flavorful with a nice balance of sweet and heat, and there was this bright hit of orange zest that made the whole dish stand out. Overall, great food and I'd come back, I'd just plan ahead and expect a wait.

Hing Kee has a huuuuuge menu, but I only wanted dumplings because I wanted to eat at other places too. Ordered the pork xiao long bao and the shrimp & pork dumplings in szechuan chili oil. Didn't get much of that soupy goodness with the XLB because each one was unfortunately leaking already before I even touched them. So all in all, the dumplings were good, but were they amazing? No. I was disappointed, but still liked the dumplings even though there was no soup in them. Service was whatever and the table we were sat at was a bit dirty. The Vietnamese coffee was awful too. I figured it wouldn't be good as I wouldn't order something Vietnamese at a Chinese place, but husband really wanted coffee. Don't order it haha

This place needs to be more popular!! The food is heavenly! The food was so good, I didn't take pics of everything cuz I got really busy eating The flavors were dancing in my mouth! I had a couple of vegetarian items- mapo tofu and friend eggplants. My family had a few chicken dishes and each one loved it all. The table next to us got some fried rice and the aroma made me hungry immediately after finishing my dinner. I know what I'm getting next time. This restaurant is in the middle of China Town, so parking is always a challenge, but put in the effort and get here cuz it's worth it.

This restaurant is located in Chinatown. It is a very small establishment, seating is limited. We sat down & placed our order pretty quickly. We ordered the chicken dumplings and combination fried rice. I also got a brown rice, green tea. The combination fried rice came out first it wasn't fresh. It was served to us a bit lukewarm. Decent size dish, it can serve up to two people. The rice was very mid in flavor. It lacked the traditional fried rice taste. We requested chili oil to savor our food. The chili oil added a good heat to it. The chicken dumplings were excellent. You do get quite a bit. Me and my partner shared them and had a few left over to take home. My brown rice tea was excellent nice and light green tea flavor with a nutty rice undertone. The cleanliness of the outside area where we all eat at was pretty up to par. However, the bathrooms were disgusting as soon as you walk back there before even entering the bathroom it smells atrocious. I walked into the women's restroom. It was a pigsty. I saw something floating above the door doorway and it was a roach caught in a spiderweb. It doesn't even feel safe to wash your hands in there it is that dirty. They need to do something about that because that is a representation of how they are treating their kitchen back there because it is right next to the kitchen. I did feel some kind of way after eating and seeing that but Hopefully they get their bathroom together other than that I did enjoy my experience here. I might come back because they have so many great options on their menu and I'm interested in trying a few other things. The service was good. They accommodated us intended to all of our needs.

If you're craving comforting, old school Chinese flavors in Chicago's Chinatown, Hing Kee is a must-visit. The food feels deeply rooted in tradition simple, hearty, and made to be enjoyed slowly. Shanghai Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) These are the star. The wrappers are thin yet sturdy, holding a generous amount of rich, savory broth. One bite and the soup bursts out, followed by well seasoned pork that's juicy and fragrant. They're balanced, not overly greasy, and taste exactly how soup dumplings should warm, delicate, and satisfying. Braised Beef Hand Pulled Noodles This bowl is pure comfort. The hand pulled noodles have a great chewy texture, and the braised beef is tender with deep, slow-cooked flavor. The broth is aromatic and savory without being overpowering, making it the kind of dish you want on a cold day or honestly, any day. Shrimp, Pork & Mushroom Hand Pulled Noodles Light yet flavorful, this noodle dish highlights clean, authentic tastes. The shrimp are fresh, the pork adds richness, and the mushrooms bring an earthy depth. Everything comes together beautifully with the springy hand pulled noodles, making it a great option if you want something comforting but not too heavy. Overall, Hing Kee delivers genuinely authentic Chinese cuisine with a focus on handmade noodles and classic flavors. No frills, no shortcuts just honest food that reminds you why Chinatown spots like this have stood the test of time. If you appreciate traditional cooking and comforting bowls of noodles, this place is absolutely worth a visit.

Yeah, generally when I'm in town, I do like to come over here and visit. I'm a creature of habit and I know there's other places to try in Chinatown but I really come here for about three or four dishes. Today was no exception. I opted for the egg rolls and the Chinese broccoli and beef lo mein with the soft noodle. It was a quiet Friday afternoon due to the severe weather so it was nice not to have to wait. Service was friendly and helpful. It would've been a great day for any of the noodle soup bowls. Both the eggroll and broccoli beef noodle dish were excellent. I ended up taking the leftovers home. I will definitely come back when I visit. Known for their soup dumplings - I did not have them this time, but they are really good as are of the scallion pancakes.

I wanted soup dumplings while in Chicago and found this spot while searching online. Nate and I walked in around 8 pm on a weekday and were able to get a table right away. The menu is huge, but we were focused - we got an order of pork xiao long bao and shrimp toast. Service is no frills and efficient. The dumplings came out steaming hot and they were full of pork. A few did stick to the basket and ripped, so that was a little sad, but they were flavorful and tasty. I loved the shrimp toast - it was crispy and savory, and covered in sesame seeds. I would definitely come back for more soup dumplings and other dishes. The portions for main items looked huge, and it would be a great place for groups.

Food: Szechwan Style Stir Fried String Beans - your standard string bean dish and how you'd imagine it to taste. wasn't mind blowing but still good and good shareable portion. Xiao Long Bao Pork Soup Dumplings - soupy and flavorful! came out just how like my soup dumplings to be. i love to eat this with chili oil or vinegar! Xiao Long Bao Chicken Soup Dumplings - yummy if you prefer chicken as your protein and it's also laid on a bed of cabbage. soupy and flavorful as well! Stir Fried Soy Sauce Flat Noodles - flat noodles are on a more soft side and the beef isn't too salty (a problem i ran into at some other places serving the same dish) loved the veggies with this as well. also a good shareable portion Service: decent service here. very straightforward! Ambiance: cozy and causal chinese restaurant vibes in the middle of china town! nice restaurant to stop and eat with others.

Quick. Delicious and no non-sense. :) their soup dumplings were great. And Chinese broccoli in garlic sauce, salt and pepper tofu and eggplant were crispy and good. Whenever we go to this tournament in the city this is our go to spot.

Great service, not so great soup dumplings. I really wanted to like the xiao long bao here, but sadly every single one of them came broken at the bottom so the soup leaked out before I could even taste it. We asked the waitress if we could get another batch in case this was a faulty one. Same issue with the next one. Unfortunately I can't recommend their soup dumplings. If you go, try some of their other dishes! -AD

Taking a star off because the bathroom is kind of gross and the hallway to wait for an open bathroom is stinky sometimes. The food however is SO GOOD. I love the handmade noodles, the last time I went I got the wontons with handmade noodles..big bowl and I finished! The iced HK Milk tea is good too! Service is good, it's quick. Sometimes there's a wait but if you go early enough you might get seated pretty quick. The soup dumplings are also SOO GOOD.

A couple local chinese friends recommended this place over that other popular xiao long bao place.... A bit janky... but oh man thats how you know this place is gonna be good. Came at a busy hour and the lady just handed us a scrap paper with a random number and just told us to come back in 10 minutes. No idea how it worked but it did. Soup dumplings were soupyyy, a bit doughy on the top but bursting with flavor. Noodle texture on point, their dan dan noodle ($12) was GINORMOUS, so flavorful, not too salty. Not a fan of ground beef in noodles since its hard to eat, but it was soooo good and I was scraping the bottom. You really can't beat this price or flavor. This place embodies chinatown vibes and im here for it.

    Is it BYOB?

I'm pretty sure it is, there is a liquor store in the strip across from there.

Do they have a variety of soup dumplings or just crab with pork? Was hoping for at least just pork.

Yes, they do have different ones. The traditional one is pork only.

Tucked into a no-frills corner on the South Side, Dai Yee's looks modest from the outside, but step in after 10 p.m. and it's pure magic. The room is packed with everybody--sneakerheads, nurses coming off shift, club kids, cops, and couples on first dates who somehow heard the legend. The vibe is chaotic in the best way: woks roaring, orders flying, and that unmistakable perfume of sizzling garlic, ginger, and chili filling the air. The food is straight-up stupid good. The Hong Kong-style salt & pepper smelts are crackly, spicy, and gone in 30 seconds. The beef chow fun has that elusive wok hei (breath of the wok) that most places only dream of, wide rice noodles slick with smoky char and tender flank steak. The black pepper beef tenderloin is velvet-soft, glossy, and aggressively peppery in a way that makes you order extra rice just to survive the happiness. The Singapore noodles are bright curry perfection, and the Mongolian beef is saucy, crispy-edged, and borderline addictive. Portions are straight out of the 90s--massive trays that could feed a family of four for under $15. Cash-only, BYOB, and everything comes out blazing hot in under ten minutes even when the place is slammed. The ladies running the show are legends: fast, funny, and they'll roast you (lovingly) if you can't handle the spice level you asked for. If you leave Chicago without hitting Dai Yee's at least once (preferably at 1 a.m. with a six-pack), you didn't really experience the city. As soon as I walked in, nearly every seat was taken. The place was lively, energetic, and a bit boisterous, but in a good way. I figured that was a good sign that the food was good! At first, the host wanted to seat me at the bar, which I politely declined. I noticed a small single table open, pointed it out, and he kindly let me take it. No tude! My server was efficient, friendly, and very helpful with recommendations since it was my first visit. She suggested the pot stickers over the hot and sour soup, and the beef Chow Fun instead of chicken. The pot stickers were a little small, but very tasty. I also asked for some sweet and sour sauce, which paired nicely with them. For my main dish, I ordered the char-grilled beef Chow Fun. The portion size was generous, and the char-grilled beef had great flavor. A few of the noodles were a bit firm, likely undercooked, but overall it was still enjoyable. What I appreciated the most about Shang Noodle was the value. $18 for the beef Chow Fun and $9 for the pot stickers felt reasonable considering the portion sizes and location. I'll definitely be back, though next time I may try lunch instead.
