I haven't been to a MingHin location in over 6 years, and after having dinner here last weekend, I wish I could come back again tomorrow already haha. We ordered like the PERFECT amount of food and best variety. Roast duck: I honestly don't know if I've ever had duck before, but I'm a duck believer now. The skin on theirs was the perfect crispy shatter texture and the duck was sooooo juicy! I don't know why I was always so worried about it being gamey. They give you fluffy steamed bao buns, a sauce, and scallions on the side as well as duck fried rice! Turnip cake: Obviously a must any time I come to dim sum. I've never seen turnip in any other form than this. Japanese salt & pepper tofu: My FAVORITE dish ever. Any fried salt & pepper tofu always makes me happy. They use a creamy egg-like tofu and the outside is lightly crispy with amazing aromatics stir fried in. Steamed white rice on the side is perfect with this. Loved everything else my dinner buds picked and we were super full by the end! Service was good and food came out fast and scorching hot! ***Parking in the area is treacherous (not the restaurants fault, but reconsider driving if possible bc cell signal can be zero to none around the garages if you get lucky) ***Their website allows you to request a reservation as long as it's 3 hours before your desired time. This place is average at best. I have read some of these reviews and I wonder if we had eaten at the same place. I will start with the ambiance, since that was the best thing about the place and what kept it an overall "3." It was nice enough. Not perfect but above average on the ambiance. Second, I will talk about the service. I hate to say it but it was pretty poor. Staff was inattentive. Never offered a single refill on my drink nor my water. I don't like a hovering server but these folks were AWOL. Third, the Food. I started with the hot and sour soup. Again, it was below average Maybe the worst I have ever had. The best part of the meal was the pork and shrimp Siu Mai and the Shrimp Dumpling with Green Chive. These dishes were "5's." Finally, I ordered a Beijing (Peking) duck. i have eaten this dish from coast to coast. Of all the peking duck I have had in all my travels, this was the worst. Flavor was fine. Wings and drumsticks were cool and a little dry. The skin of the duck was crispy and had good flavor, but the meat was non-existent. I ordered a whole duck and took back a lot of leftovers. But here was the deal. I truly believe that they cobbled a duck together so to speak from remnants of other ducks they had served this night. Several of the pieces were nothing but skin. What a good dim sum spot. The alcohol alcoholic drinks were also pretty affordable. Got a piña colada that had a cherry on top. It was sweet and tasty. The chow mein noodles were good and there was a lot of them to share with the table. My favorite was the pork barbecue buns. They were soft, filling, and delicious. We didn't have a reservation, but we did not have to wait at all for a group of 5 of us during peak dinner hour on a weekend. The mapo tofu was so so good. Who doesn't love dim sum? Not this gal. My sister suggested dim sum before I go back home. Sure, I said! This place serves traditional Chinese and dim sum that you can order via table. We ordered a bunch of items. Most were hits! The shu mai were so good, juicy and hot. I also enjoyed the chive pan fried dumplings and the sticky rice. The radish cakes were soft and pillowy. The congee was perfect tasting, didn't need any seasoning. The short ribs were a bit too fatty for my taste. After all that food, they give you the tastiest, crispy almond cookies and fortune cookies. It's a nice restaurant, the service is fast and the prices are good. Love it! read more

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago, but something has definitely changed! The food used to be delicious and cooked to perfection. When you sat down, the server would bring you a soothing cup of jasmine tea, and the restaurant was always clean, cozy, and inviting. Now, none of that is the same. My beef was chewy and lacked flavor, you're handed an iPad to place your own order at the table, there's no personal service, and half of the staff doesn't speak English. Oh, and that wonderful jasmine tea? Gone! They do, however, make a delicious Egg Foo Yung. I might go back during my next visit to the city, but only to grab the Egg Foo Yung to go. read more

Ordered MingHin Cuisine on DoorDash for delivery and honestly, it was a huge letdown. It took them over an hour just to prepare the food, and we had multiple Dashers assigned because they kept getting tired of waiting to pick it up. By the time it finally arrived, it was already off to a bad start and unfortunately, the food didn't make up for it. The egg drop soup tasted like I was drinking watered-down eggs with zero flavor. The sweet and sour chicken was overcooked fried chicken covered in a bland sauce that didn't resemble the usual sweet and tangy flavor at all. The chicken chow mein was also disappointing, barely any noodles, a ton of broccoli and vegetables, and chicken with no seasoning whatsoever. Even the pork bao buns were just okay, soft but very mid overall. For the price and wait time, this was not worth it. Definitely expected better from a place with such a good reputation. read more

The 4 of us shared the salted fish and chicken fried rice, beef pan fried noodles and salt and pepper fish fillet. Everything was delicious and flavorful! The fried rice was moist and not dry, and had a good amount of flavor without being too salty. The beef pan fried noodles were good and savory though it wasn't as crispy as I'd like. The 4 of us shared the salty fish and chicken fried rice, beef pan fried noodles, and salt and pepper fish fillet and were all full! My favorite was definitely the salt and pepper fish fillet- definitely one of the best I've had ANYWHERE! It was so crispy and flavorful, not salty or dry at all. Same for the salty fish and chicken fried rice, it was moist and the right amount of flavor. The beef pan fried noodles were good but comparable to other Chinese places. This review is purely and only for the char siu (roast pork). Everything else could be delicious (though looking around, I wouldn't bet on it). This isn't $20 char siu; this is the $5 char siu you get at a place that also serves fried chicken and french fries. The fat ratio is way off, there is no caramelization...this is pork that has been tortured, dyed red, and then doused in soy sauce. Served with a literal tea cup of white rice. My cousin told me this was ome of her favorites, and I can see why :) A cool spot to checkout while in Downtown Chicago. Egg Drop Soup with Straw Mushroom (4/5): A little bland, but big portions for the price! They don't skimp on the mushrooms too. A pretty comforting soup that started our meal. Roast Pork Belly (5/5): SOOOO JUICY! I loved this. Thick cuts of pork. Good quality and the skin is crispy too. I think that this was a big highlight of my meal. Tea & Tea (5/5): The bartender has a HEAVY HAND and I'm here for it. They didn't skimp on the alchol in this. It reminded me of a massive green tea shot or a midori sour. Great drink! Chicken Feet with Special Sauce (5/5): The sauce was really tasty! Each chicken foot was tender and well steamed. Savory and each piece soaked up all the flavor! Probably the best item on the menu! 5 people to 2 iPads for ordering was definitely unwieldy, but we ended up having funny moments of trying to sync up our orders. You should order the Cantonese food here rather than the America Chinese or the szechuan food. Dim and Cantonese is what ming hin is at! Be adventurous and try the beef tripes and chicken feet. My friends and I persuaded our less gastronomically adventurous friend to do at least the tripe, and we--at least--had a good time making him eat something new ;) Feel free to wave the servers over. My boyfriend and I came in on a Sunday night for dinner and it wasn't very busy as it was kind of late. The service was very friendly and attentive! We ordered two entrees and two personal sized soups, but we had plenty of leftovers (great for a late night snack for us!) The dishes are large enough to share so unless you're feeling pretty hungry and/or want leftovers, you can probably scale back the ordering amount. We were big fans of the chicken fried rice! Soups were also nice, hot, and thick -- perfect for the windy weather outside. The scallion and ginger chicken was pretty decent too, but we both agreed the fried rice was the star of the show. The staff gave us an iPad to order with. Hot tea and water were automatically served, as well as some fortune cookies and almond cookies at the end. Once seated they serve you tea (free!) and bring soy sauce and chili sauce dip (ready for dim sum!). The menu is on a touch-screen tablet, with pictures! You click what you want. And then once done, hand the tablet to the waiter who'll put in the order. Service is efficient though no smile ever. Love the booth seating though the seats are so low compared to the table. We wanted to check out this spot after seeing such good ratings on Yelp when searching for dim sum. It's located near the dog park and residential area. It's located upstairs between other nearby store fronts. Some parts of the restaurant looked to be outdated or in remodeling phase. We got seated towards the back nearby the window with a great view of the Chicago buildings. More of the "upscale" dim sum type spot. You will not find staff pushing dim sum carts. We ordered through the tablet and food came out reasonably fast and piping hot. An order of Sui mai comes with 5 pieces instead of 4 unlike other places! No wonder the price for 1 order seemed a bit high $6-7. I guess the price and portion justifies it. Sui mai was plump and juicy. My fave! The shrimp noodle roll and pork noodle roll were alright. I wished the rice noodle roll were thinner. Slightly thicker than I would prefer. I liked the pork one more than the shrimp. My friend ordered the chicken feet and seemed to enjoy it. I ordered the tofu skin with pork & shrimp. It was wrapped in the tofu skin and it was my second favorite item here. Service was pretty good. Although the staff doesn't look like the "friendliest," they did come by to refill out waters and bus our dirty dishes. No complaints. Good food and we both left satisfied. Egg rolls ok. Crab rangoon ok. BBQ ribs were neither bbq nor ribs. Got the "bbq ribs" appetizer for $17.95. About 11 pieces of mostly 1 inch long pork bones that had very little flavor. Certainly no Asian bbq flavor. I pulled the edible meat off the bones and put on my kitchen scale: 1.31 ounces of meat. Major disappointment. I am confused at the high ratings. We ordered sesame chicken and duck. Both dishes were in a pool of sauces, with the chicken coming out like a soup of sauce. This is very basic Chinese food. Also the pricing for veggie dishes were on par with meat dishes, about $20. This is the first time I have seen this. read more
