    Tomato beef noodle soup
    Maxine L.

Was intrigued by the hand pulled noodles, so came in to try it out. It's a pretty small spot on the Main Street in Chinatown. I ordered the tomato beef noodle soup with the knife cut noodles. Service was quick and attentive and we got our food pretty quickly. The noodles themselves were okay. The texture was a blend of chewy al dente in the middle and slightly overcooked mush at the edges. The noodle widths were quite uneven as well. The soup itself was good. Refreshing and light and the beef slices were meaty and yummy. Overall, this was okay. There are probably better places for a nice bowl of hand pulled noodle soup though.

So I've been wanting to come here for forever. No particular reason other than my love for noodles and the cool name - definitely draws your attention haha We came in and were seated immediately and were handed the menus. It did take about 10min for them to give us water and come take our order. 1 star taken away because they gave water to a party that came in after us first which didn't feel good - plus we were thirsty. The noodles made up for that though! They were SO flavorful and all the meats were tasty and tender and fresh. Best stir fry noodles that I've had in a while and I need to check and see if they deliver! My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed this place and it's right in the middle of the heart of Chinatown.

Fresh hand made noodles. Shrimps were plump and noodles are dense that filled me up. They were seasoned perfectly to my liking, not too oil or too salty. Service was good and inside was clean. The price was very reasonable considering it's in China town.

We came here in a busy Sunday afternoon. There were a couple of open tables and were greeted right away and invited to sit down. Service is fast but perhaps too fast. I ordered their House Special, my wife ordered their beef brisket and my son tried ordering their chow hand pulled beef shank but was given a bowl of soup instead. My son said it was fine and kept because the lady kept saying we told her a soup. As for the noodle soups, they were ok. They came out very fast so there wasn't much effort. They were all basically the same. Same noodles, same broth and just different types of meat cuts. Very filling as well but seemed like very little effort in these dishes. Don't think I would be returning.

Vegetable stir-fried noodles with hand-pulled noodles

Came here on a visit to China Town. The flavor is fresh, healthy, but slightly bland - it works well with the array of sauces provided on the table. We had the vegetable pan fried (more like deep fried) dumplings, the veggie stir friend noodles (hand pulled) and the vegetable noodle soup (shaved), also the best item: the cucumber salad. The cucumber salad was slightly sweet and savory and so fresh. The dumplings reminded me of Trader Joe's vegetable gyoza, not bad but you can tell they're pre-made. I saw someone order Buns and those looked made in-house but not sure. The noodle soup broth was very plain because it was a vegetarian based (water), but we added soy sauce and chili oil which helped the flavor a lot. The issue with this was that because the noodles are made in house, they are very soggy/chewy and overcooked in the broth. It did come with a nice variety of vegetables which was nice, but we ended up not eating the noodles at all. The stir fried noodles were pretty good texture and vegetable wise, those definitely needed some of the sauces provided. All in all, it was a good place to try. Also a heads up, they charge 18% on every check for a service charge BUT the server tells you just hit the next button when the machine asks for a tip which puts the pressure off which is nice. Service was good

Overall I'd recommend the pork buns and the combination hand pulled noodles. The buns were juicy and fluffy, and made even better with chili oil and the dipping sauce. The dry noodles had a good flavor and the noodles had a solid firm and chewy texture. I was disappointed in the tomato beef noodle soup- there was no tomato flavor, or any flavor to be honest. I got knife cut noodles and they were very overcooked and gummy. All the food came out fast and it was an affordable meal so you're around the area, it's a good place to stop by.

Outstanding food. Their flavors are wonderful. The seasonings were perfect. We were looking for a vegetarian options in China town for our parents and found this place. The service was amazing. They explained everything well. They have plenty of seating. The chef talked to us and guided us. The prices are reasonable as well. I would go again.

An overall 4 star review of this place is more than fair. Service was so kind and friendly. My noodles were NOT overcooked and "mushy" as many others. This may struggle with other noodle shops. We got the Steamed Pork and Chive Dumplings, Sesame Balls (so good - get these), Beef Brisket Noodle Soup and Seafood Spicy Noodle Soup. All delicious. The space is clean as well as the bathroom. Which is a major bonus. City street parking. IYKYK

    Pork Belly Noodle Soup

We made the trip to Chinatown just to try the Slurp Slurp hand pulled noodles, and we were very happy that we did! Tons of seating, very fun music giving it a welcoming and fun vibe inside of the restaurant. The staff was very nice and answered any questions that we had about the menu. We started with the cucumber salad which felt like a very light appetizer. The sauce and seasoning had a nice little kick to it, but not too spicy to overwhelm you. We decided on the Pork Belly and the Beef Brisket noodle soups. Both of the meats were very tender and flavorful, the broths were both very good. We added chili oil to pork broth to give it a little more spice and flavor. But the real star is the amazing hand pulled noodles. They have an amazing texture to them and somehow are nice and thick but don't weigh you down and have you feeling heavy after the meal. They are some of the best noodles that I have had in a soup and I will absolutely be coming back again specifically for the noodles!

The perfect place for a quick meal with an ample amount of seating. The servers were very quick and efficient! This is your traditional hand-pulled or knife cut noodles shop with a variety of different toppings to choose from. Most of the soup bases are the same, and you can add chili oil (served on the table) to your liking! I got the house special hand pulled noodles. The broth was flavorful and the noodles were al dente. The different cuts of beef were also very generous! However, it was lacking the depth and layers of flavor that I was looking for. Adding chili oil absolutely helped the flavor!

    Amy L.

Just a super solid place for Chinese noodle soup! I love the texture of the hand pulled wide noodles, although one downside is that sometimes they are too thick and doughy its not very consistent in a bowl. But other than that the flavor and taste of the noodles is very good! The service is good and everyone is very nice.

    Veges with knife cut noodle
    karina k.

Very fast ... you sit you order and food comes in 5-10 min tops. Wow. The food was good. Not salty and yummy flavor and not too much flavor bc I don't like drenched food in too much sauce that's too heavy. Not the best for vegetarians but for meat eaters it's great. I had veges with shaved noodles (knife cut) for $12.95. The beef brisket and stomach and beef shank for $13.95. The place is peaceful with low music so it's not too loud. You can hear yourself talk. The prices are good and reasonable. Parking is on the street for $2.50 per hour on the mobile app. Great fast and efficient and tasty.

As a ramen alternative, it's not bad actually it's pretty good and it's cheaper. The broth was excellent. The noodles were Al dente and there was tons of meat. We got the slurp slurp big bowl for $18. It fed us both.

Tucked into a no-frills corner on the South Side, Dai Yee's looks modest from the outside, but step in after 10 p.m. and it's pure magic. The room is packed with everybody--sneakerheads, nurses coming off shift, club kids, cops, and couples on first dates who somehow heard the legend. The vibe is chaotic in the best way: woks roaring, orders flying, and that unmistakable perfume of sizzling garlic, ginger, and chili filling the air. The food is straight-up stupid good. The Hong Kong-style salt & pepper smelts are crackly, spicy, and gone in 30 seconds. The beef chow fun has that elusive wok hei (breath of the wok) that most places only dream of, wide rice noodles slick with smoky char and tender flank steak. The black pepper beef tenderloin is velvet-soft, glossy, and aggressively peppery in a way that makes you order extra rice just to survive the happiness. The Singapore noodles are bright curry perfection, and the Mongolian beef is saucy, crispy-edged, and borderline addictive. Portions are straight out of the 90s--massive trays that could feed a family of four for under $15. Cash-only, BYOB, and everything comes out blazing hot in under ten minutes even when the place is slammed. The ladies running the show are legends: fast, funny, and they'll roast you (lovingly) if you can't handle the spice level you asked for. If you leave Chicago without hitting Dai Yee's at least once (preferably at 1 a.m. with a six-pack), you didn't really experience the city. This is real-deal, no-filter, soul-satisfying Chinese food that reminds you why we fall in love with restaurants in the first place. So I decided to try Shang Noodle, which was tucked away on a side street off Grand Ave., just steps from Michigan Ave. It's across from the Nordstrom building, past Labriola's, down some steps and about a block away located on the south side of the street. As soon as I walked in, and I wasn't expecting this but the restaurant was extremely loud and nearly every seat was taken and everybody seemed to be enjoying themself, families, couples and groups. I figured that was a good sign and it signaled to me that the food was probably good! At first, the host wanted me to sit at the bar, which I politely declined because I don't usually sit at bars, also, I was there to eat, not pick up somebody! I noticed a small table open, pointed it out, and he kindly let me take it. No 'tude either! As far as my server goes, she was efficient, friendly, and very helpful with recommendations since it was my first visit and probably because I didn't look like the other customers who were more familiar with the cuisine. She suggested the pot stickers over the hot and sour soup, and the beef Chow Fun instead of chicken Chow Fun. The pot stickers were a little small, but crispy and very tasty. I also asked for some sweet and sour sauce on the side which I'm glad I did because it paired nicely with the pot stickers instead of that plain vinegar sauce they usually serve you. For my main dish, I ordered the char-grilled beef Chow Fun. The portion size was more than generous, and the char-grilled beef had a great umami flavor. A few of the rice noodles were a bit firm, likely undercooked, but overall though it was quite enjoyable. What I appreciated the most about Shang Noodle was the value. $18 for the beef Chow Fun and $9 for the pot stickers felt reasonable to me, considering it was on the dinner menu, the portion sizes were humongous and the restaurant was located on the Near North Side, which is usually quite pricey. I'll definitely be back, though next time I may try lunch instead, or go with friends of mine.
