Our experience was extremely disappointing. About half of the food we ordered arrived cold or was just average at best, while the rest never arrived at all--even after waiting more than an hour. Customer service was practically nonexistent. When we asked why our food was cold and why several dishes never came out, we were told that their stove was broken. To make matters worse, there was a roach crawling on the wall during our meal, which made the experience even more unpleasant. We weren't sure whether to report it, kill it ourselves, or just leave it. As if that wasn't enough, the restaurant smelled like gas by the doorway where we sat. Between the poor service, missing and cold food, and the cleanliness and safety concerns, this was a very frustrating dining experience that we would not repeat. read more

This place is a small corner restaurant in a residential area and offers dim sum and some other dishes (see menu).   It's locally popular and you will need to find street parking which is not a biggie around this location.  We tried it for dim sum carryout on this inaugural visit.  Apparently there was new ownership 6 years ago and almost all the reviews except for the last 5 reviews (not counting this one) are older than that so they probably could use a whole new Yelp website.  It probably won't happen, so this is likely your only heads-up and I have updated what Yelp site info I could.   As far as our carryout, we came around noon on a Monday, and had a 20 minute wait for our order. It's probably best to call ahead if you're doing carryout.  There were some other carryout orders and the 10 table restaurant was busy. With the wait comes dim sum that is piping hot fresh though.  We ordered siu mai, har gow, beef crepes, and pork offal crepes.  Overall, it's very good, and prices are competitive with other Chinatown carryout options.  The har gow was on the smallish size though.  It was good to try, but from this visit, we'll probably opt to stick with our fav Chiu Quon for carryout as there is typically not much of a wait there and you get a tad bit bigger dim sum for the same price. read more

Don't let the size of the store fool you as this place is always packed with people inside and out. If you are lucky to get a table, you are lucky. I been here a few times and I never got to sit right away. There menu is straight forward as all the dishes have pictures for dim sum. The food is fresh and always tasty. Prices are average for dim sum compared to other places in Chinatown. The soups are have very fragrant aroma and taste very good with the noodles. I highly recommend and free parking. Was in the neighborhood and decided to try this place out for some lunch takeout. This place is like your usual typical americanized chinese restaurant but with some added Chinese regional dishes/spice/style. For the starter, we got the chicken wings. It was nice and crispy. They packed it with the top open in a brown paper bag so the wings stay crispy during the trip home. Thumbs up on that. Also the wings were not dry! It was cooked thru and juicy. Very impressed by the care and extra steps they took to keep it good. From the lunch specials, we got the Orange chicken and it came with chicken fried rice. Both were pretty tasty and the orange sauce was pretty good. The chicken fried rice was pretty good as well. It also came with a fried egg roll. Didnt even eat it cause the portion was pretty big and we could not finish it all. Yay for left overs. The other dish we got was the Singapore Thin Noodles. This dish was really enjoyable. It was not dry nor overly wet. The noodles were nice and long and I could twirl it well on my fork. The taste was good. I'd definitely come back again for this. Overall this is a pretty good take out place. Price to portion, this place is very good to come back to eat at. Definitely worth it. Can't wait to try what their other dishes are like. read more

Wing Yip has been under new ownership for a couple years now. The food is just as good, if not better and service has improved. I'm risk adverse when it comes to Chinese food and typically stick with the Americanized stuff like Orange, Sesame or General Tso's Chicken. One of my foodie resolutions is to veer off the basic Americanized path in 2018. In the meantime, I'll keep Wing Yip in mind whenever I'm in the area. This place isn't authentic Chinese food, but I like their beef fried rice it's clean, good and it fills me up. The place is old and the dining room is old, the place looks like it run down. But the customers seem loyal, the food is Junky Fast Chinese food. The owners do their job they seem very mellow about what they do, and that's fine. So I will add one more start to the fact that I know I'm getting some very Americanized fried rice and i keep going back for it so there is something they are doing right. read more

This review is looong overdue! I had had a few really good delivery meals from here when I was craving Chinese. When my friend and I had our dogs' birthday parties (I know, I know) that had a Chinese New Year theme (year of the dog!), I ordered a ton of egg rolls, crab Rangoon and potstickers from here. This place used to be pretty mediocre and I would just order from China Wok in McKinley - now the tables have turned and China Wok has been stale the last 3x we've tried them. What we odered: Kung Pao Chicken - A Shrimp Fried Rice - B (few shrimp and they were small, but rice was fresh) Orange Chicken - A (not too sweet and large pieces) Sweet and Sour Chicken - A So I'm giving this place 5 stars based on similar restaurants not against something far better and more expensive than them. I can only assume that the other reviewers who are giving this place four or five stars have a COMPLETELY different idea of "what makes a good Chinese food place" than I do, because this place is deep in the dumps compared to even the other hole-in-the-wall Chinese food joints I've been to. First off, the lady at the counter isn't friendly. Which I can't hold against her. If I were serving slop to idiots all day, I wouldn't be in the most pleasant of moods either. Secondly, the menu is in disarray. You can find pieces of it on the wall, pieces of it taped to the counter, and even after picking up a take-out menu, I still felt like something was missing. Maybe it's the fact that there's no soup listed on the menu, and I am a fan of Wonton Soup. Obviously I wouldn't be trying it out at this place. Thirdly, the decor and cleanliness of the place was dismal. The floor was a little sticky in places. There were buckets located around the premises, hanging from the wall. I at first thought they were for leaks or something, but it turns out they were "put used forks here" buckets. I thought for one second that serving metal forks with food is a nice touch, until I realized I wasn't sure I trusted the cleanliness of the kitchen/food in general, which means I should trust them to properly wash forks and leave them sitting out on tables all day, either. The walls are boring, and just being in that building made every fiber of my being shout "GET ME OUTTA HERE" Fourthly, this place DOES NOT TAKE CREDIT CARDS. The little "Yes/No" by the restaurant's details above does not properly pass this idea off in my mind, because I missed it. However an all-caps warning in a review would have stuck in my mind. Normally a location that does not accept credit cards has an ATM inside, or right next door. Or tells you about it beforehand and DEFINITELY has a SIGN reading "CASH ONLY" or "NO CREDIT CARDS". The result was that after standing around for 20 minutes for my food, I then had to walk two blocks to a gas station where I was charged an extra $3 by their ATM machine just to get cash to pay for crappy food. (I think she's in cahoots with the gas station guy and gets half of that $3 extra charge) That's right, issue #5 is with the food. When I go to a Chinese place, my traditional test is a large Governor's (General Tso's) Chicken for me, a large Beef and Broccoli for my girl, "with garlic" to test their additional request skills, an order of Crab Rangoon, and an order of Wonton Soup. There is no soup here, judging by the menu bits. 90% of locations I go to treat "with garlic" as "put some garlic in there" - this place treated it as "change the whole thing to the bucket of garlic sauce" - which is not tasty. The crab rangoon (or "carbrangoon" according to the menu) was 95% fake crab (it tasted fake to me) and almost no cheese to bind it together, creating a fried pocket of tiny crab bits spilling out. And my Governor's Chicken? Twenty giant chewy pieces of chicken in a sauce that at best can be described as "borderline-acceptable" and at worst can be described as "brown water". A fair amount of it was located in the plastic bag, as this place hasn't evolved yet to the point of plastic sealing containers instead of sloppily-stapled styrofoam containers. Sorry, but I will not be back here. And if you decide to go here, even after reading my scathing review, hopefully you will have remembered my stern warning that they do not accept credit cards, lest you find yourself on an expensive hike to the gas station two blocks away just so you can free your pathetic excuse for food from its mean captor. read more

I eat here on occasion because it's cheap and relatively fast. That's it. I can get meal for $6 in about 5-10 minutes, so it's good for lunch time. That said, the place is a dump. Really dingy and fairly nasty cleanliness wise. Also, you get a real fork with your meal, but you need to drop it in the "fork bucket" by the garbage can. Everything else you can throw away. I've gone there off and on for about five years and the woman behind that counter has never said one nice thing to me, she always looks pissed off like Aaron stated. I've said hello, please and thank you, and tried to make conversation and she's never responded. Never a your welcome, or a hello back. It was to the point I stopped trying to say anything and instead just ordered my food and moved on. In fact I rarely go there now because of it. The food itself is typical fast-food hole-in-the-wall fare. Nothing spectacular, but decent quality. It also on the street, so parking can sometimes suck. I've had to circle the block five or six times before until I found some place to park which is never fun. So if you are close to the place and want cheap and fast, you can give it try. But if you care about customer service, or I don't know, cleanliness of a restaurant, I would go elsewhere. read more

Truly a hidden gem, just off the Chinatown "main drag". Good food and even better value. I was getting ready to drop ~$90 on a large Saturday night meal at one of our usual Chinatown haunts. Then, I decided to range "farther afield". We effectively ordered the same amount of food at this place (if not more) and paid not even $50. Yup, almost half the price. Everything we ordered was delicious. Portion sizes were tremendous; our dinner for four could have easily fed twice as many. This will be our new "go to" place for casual Chinese in downtown Chicago. This is the best Chinese restaurant I've found while living in Bridgeport for 4 years. The food is excellent and the prices are much cheaper than other places in the area. The restaurant is pretty dark inside and there's not much decor going on.. but the food is what's most important anyway. The lady that works there always seems to have an attitude, but I think that's just her personality. She does the job and always gets my order correct. Most of the time, I order my food to go and they're pretty quick with having it prepared by the time I get there. I'm actually craving their food right now... mmmm! read more

Ahhh man my Shrimp Lo Mien was delicious! Like really delicious!! Price point was impressive for the large portion they served. Now, the menu does not show shrimp lo mien so I'm not sure what they named it. i.e what's Kow and Toy??? The noodles were thinner than I'm used to but it was better than I'm used to. I've only seen a pic of the outside of the restaurant but I was informed that it was a hole in the wall. And if I saw it I probably won't eat there again. Excellent food arrived faster than promised. Each dish was flavorful without being overly salty or spicy. Shrimps in the shrimp & green beans and the combo lo mein were tender - not rubbery or over-cooked. The beef was tender. The veggies in each dish had a crisp fresh feel and distinct flavor.
