My first time trying this place and it was nice. When I went there I waited 15 min before I got a table. The gentlemen at the desk explained how it works. I went over to pick out my items but didn't know what I was looking at in some of the items. The name was wiped out on the items to pick out. It's hard to get service from someone when you need to ask questions or need a refill. The hot pot was salty and the meat was ok. I don't think I will be back to this location again.
My FAVORITE place for hot pot! My go to is half spicy marrow and half golden cabbage broth, then mix it together in your bowl so you get a perfect blend of spicy, sour umami goodness haha. There are two price options, class or premium. I think premium is always worth it, and I believe this specific location is cheaper than some of the other locations. The broths are usually consistent, but our spicy marrow is as once a little bland and we were able to ask for more spice to make it spicier. Go to meats are short plate, brisket and ribeye. We love the crispy fish fillets and lamb shank. So damn good! We're usually ordering one lamb shank per person lol. I loveeee the variety of veggies, meats, fish balls and seafood. But bring back the fouzhou fish balls please!! (Fish balls with roe/meat inside). The self serve section has made things so much more efficient IMO. Sometimes they have fried wings, I wish they were a little more consistent about that cause more often than not I don't see wings. Service is not great but can't expect much at an AYCE spot where everyone is always asking for something. They close at 10 and last call is 9 pm for food, then they slowly start to clear the self-serve section as well. I would not recommend coming at 9 because your experience will likely be limited. I recommend joining the Yelp waitlist online prior to coming because there's usually a wait. But so worth it! My favorite place, you will catch me here at least once a week or every other week lol
First time here and we enjoyed a late lunch after running around downtown. We got lucky and were seated right away in a big booth (5 of us). The service is efficient and not that friendly, but not surprising. You order your broth and type of meat then head to the large bar of fresh veggies, seafood, noodles, and even fried rice and egg roll appetizers. There's also a variety of sauces from savory to spicy. We got the 1/2 mushroom and 1/2 spicy marrow broth with prime angus beef. The spicy marrow had a nice kick while the mushroom was mellower and savory. Shrimp, fishballs, and lots of spinach and bok choy made for a tasty hot pot stew. They do offer all you can eat refills of broth and meats but we were stuffed. The refills of water and soda weren't as frequent as we would have liked but overall a solid experience.
Delicious all you can eat hot pot with savory broth! Meat was decent quality and is ordered at the table. The rest of the hot pot items like veggies, noodles, and fishballs are selected yourself on a wall of ingredients. My favorites were the spicy bone broth and regular bone broth, but a lot of my party liked the mushroom bone broth. I absolutely loved Kumquat Lemonade tea, it was so refreshing with the hot and spicy food! Make sure to make a reservation, we were able to seat up to 10 people! The birthday person eats free (with min 4 people in party)
This was my second time going to happy lamb hot pot. Great experience again! The food was good. They had chicken wings this time. They were delicious. We got the traditional broth and the spicy broth. It was my partner's first time going and he ordered all of the meats at the same time. Rookie mistake. When you go, it's important to take your time because it is all you can eat. There is a table time limit for 90 minutes but trust me when you take your time and get what you can eat, you will be pleased! I will say the male employee with the blonde ponytail was extremely rude, and when he came to drop off food, he would slam it onto the table. Other than that, the service was decent. The restaurant was clean. They kept everything organized and looking fresh. I'm really happy. They incorporated the chicken wings because those were so good. I can't stop thinking about them.
10/10 Experience! This is my third time coming to happy lamb and leaving in a food coma! The wait wasn't too bad and thankfully they have a seating area inside! After being seated they have an appetizer bar while you wait for your HotPot base! The Hot pot options are Vast and they have something for everyone! Honestly its a great place to enjoy with friends or family and they have the best ice cream to end the day off with. Cant wait to come back!
We had an absolutely fantastic experience at happy lamb! We got a duo broth which was so nice since we both prefer different types of proteins! The amount of vegetables and sauce customizations were super impressive and everything was restocked and freshened up quite often. I really appreciated the different varieties of noodles and the extensive amount of seafood options! We had lamb, beef, fish balls, crab, and various veggies and everything was delicious. The small addition of kimchi and other garnishes was also very appreciated as was a delicious ice cream cone to finish. We did not feel rushed and had a great time!

Meat was fresh and easy to cook. It's a large amount of food for the price you pay, so that's a plus. Great for big groups and wide booths so lots of room. You grab all your raw ingredients from an outside bar, while the meats you have to order and they deliver to your table. There's also a sauce bar, and they serve little mantou with condensed milk and chicken wings. This place also serves grilled lamb leg?? My dad would love this lol. We chose the three soup pot with tomato, chicken (?) and mala. Love that they have several different types of mushrooms, pumpkin, AND quail eggs! The holy grail of my hot pot experience. There's also a self serve freezer that includes vanilla and chocolate ice creams, in addition to a chocolate ice cream bar. I think Happy Lamb is a place where you definitely can't go wrong. The service is always fast and your food comes out almost instantly despite it being a packed house! The restaurant is on the smaller side, so you might want to queue up earlier to grab a spot! All the tables are booths that fit lots of people.
Happy Lamb is easily my favorite hotpot place in Chicago. I always look forward to coming here, and this time I went with the Premium combo. It was excellent. The Wagyu brisket stood out the most. It was beautifully marbled and incredibly tender, with a richness that really came through even after just a quick dip in the broth. The Wagyu had that extra depth and buttery texture that made it special. I chose the three-broth pot, which is something I really recommend. Each broth brought something different to the table. The spicy mala had a deep chili flavor with that signature numbing heat that builds gradually but stays balanced. The creamy bone broth was comforting and mellow, a nice contrast to the spice. The golden cabbage marrow broth had a clean, umami-rich, sour and spicy flavor that paired really well with vegetables and seafood. From the ingredient options, I had mushrooms (white beech mushrooms), fresh octopus, and spam. Everything was fresh and prepped well. I really appreciate the variety they offer. There is a lot to choose from depending on what you're in the mood for. The sauce bar is another highlight. It has all the essentials, like soy sauce, garlic, chili oil, sesame oil, cilantro, and more. I like that you can mix your own and tailor it exactly to your taste. It's simple but really effective in elevating each bite. They always offer dessert at the end, which you can grab yourself from the small freezer. There's ice cream and a couple of mousse cakes like mango and coconut. It's a nice way to finish the meal and a thoughtful touch. The service is always great. Everyone is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The ambiance is warm and comfortable. Also, your meal is free on your birthday, which is honestly very generous!
My favorite hotpot place!! The service was very friendly and there were so many options!! There isn't many options for vegetarians as far as protein goes but if you eat meat it's great! I love that there's an option to get ANY of the broths as a vegetarian broth!! And let me say, the broth was delicious!! It can be a bit confusing at first if you're not familiar with how hotpot works but feel free to ask staff

We absolutely love AYCE hot pot and this is one of the best! Order directly from staff (verbal, not an iPad): meat, drinks Serve yourself: build your own sauce bar, hot apps (sesame balls, spring rolls, buns), hot pot accompaniments (noodles, vegetables, fish, sausages) It was very tasty and the quality of meat and produce was very good. The fish was just okay but not bad. We did have to ask for a little more flavor for the broth but it was really good once we added it in. The crispy lamb is suuuuper good, make sure to get a few orders of that lol. Staff was very attentive with clearing plates and refilling broth, but they forgot to bring out some of our orders and it was touch to get drinks, even just water refills. That said, the meal was very good and decent value. Will definitely visit again! read more

Happy Lamb is a solid hot pot spot with a good variety of options. The space is large and open, so it doesn't feel too cluttered. The three different broths we tried were distinct and flavorful, which I really liked. The wait can get very long, so we made sure to join the waitlist about two hours early on a Friday night. The only downside was the host, who came off a bit rude and wasn't very helpful. read more

You can make your own soup with very fresh vegetables and noodles and you can also have dessert like sesame balls with red bean paste as well as all you can eat soft serve vanilla or chocolate or mix ice cream. Parking is on the street. If it's your birthday, you can eat for free as long as you bring three other people. There is no à la cart menu so you have to do all you can eat for every single person at the restaurant. Great deal if you are hungry and esp if you like to make your own soup base. A DELICIOUS SOCIAL EXPERIENCE YOU WON'T FORGET! What can be better on a cold, windy day or night, than your choice of different savory broth(s) with all you can eat variety of vegetables, roots, protein, and seafood that you can imagine! My favorite is the braised lamb shanks, slices of Wagyu, pickled vegetables, and their many Yummy appetizers. There's also scrumptious desserts (cake, cakes, fruit, frozen yogurt). Can't go wrong with AYCE hotpot. They even offer free meal on your birthday. It's a perfect spot to celebrate. This place is always busy so it's important to make a reservation ahead of time. Soft drinks are included in the price. They have a large sauce bar that you can customize your dipping sauce to your liking. My favorite things to eat here are the fish paste and beef tendon balls. You can get a split pot to try 2 different broths. I like the mushroom broth. Would recommend visiting if you want hot pot. read more

We had an extraordinary visit to Happy Lamb Hot Pot! I absolutely loved the idea of trying hot pot here, and it exceeded every expectation. At first, we were unsure if they'd be able to accommodate my vegan diet since all the listed broths and preps on the menu include chicken or other types of meat, but the hostess was super helpful and told us to let our waitress know I'm vegan so they'd skip the meat and just add the seasonings to the broth. That's exactly what we did, and it worked perfectly. We got a half-and-half pot with two different soups since my husband isn't vegan, and we both enjoyed everything. The variety of food available is incredible, a large section with meats, noodles, vegetables, spring rolls, and even desserts! It's buffet-style, and you can mix and match whatever fits your taste. This place is perfect to go with friends or family, we're already planning our next visit, also the service was extremely good, and the food went beyond our expectations. We went on a weekday around 6 PM, had no wait time, and got seated at a nice booth right away. Highly recommend, especially if you're looking for a fun and flavorful dining experience that works for mixed diets! read more

Reservations through Yelp were quick and convenient, saving us time and effort. Upon being seated, the staff asked about our kids' height. I know both of them are around 4 feet tall, but the waitress insisted one wasn't (she claimed she could tell just by looking?). I later learned this was because kids 4 feet and above are charged adult prices--about $5-6 more. My daughter is 4'1", so I guess the waitress could tell, but it felt odd. We had visited a few years ago when small kids could eat 2-for-1, which made more sense since my kids can barely finish an appetizer at most restaurants. There were five of us, and we each ordered one meat. However, we had to remind them to bring the meat out after 15-20 minutes, by which time the hot pot and vegetables were already cooking. We enjoyed the broth and the meats, but everything else was just average--not really worth the AYCE price tag. Unfortunately, we left half the meat on the table (remember our 4' tall adult, she had a plate full of meat that she barely touch, and our 7 year old also couldn't eat that much) and since meat isn't refillable or eligible for To-Go boxes, it felt wasteful. The plastic I found, apparently the crab legs have plastic around it that I, the customer has to watch out and unwrap. I let our waitress know and she said that this happens all the time and I just have be aware and take it off the crab. Shouldn't the crab meat be checked for plastic wrapping around it? This has never happened to me at a restaurant before and for our waitress saying it happens all the time and not apologizing for this mistake was unacceptable! It wasn't even evident this was on the crab meat at first glance, could've definitely been a choking hazard. Would not recommend coming here! Terrible response to finding plastic in my food. read more

The food was amazing! It's definitely worth the cost to pay for the premium meats. They have a great selection of misc food to fill the pot with. Just grab a plate and fill it with everything you love. The service was very attentive. As soon as we ran out of meat they took our plate and asked us if we wanted more. The restaurant was very crowded but it was never so loud that I couldn't hear the people talking at the table. Perfect for two or a group. read more

Loved this hot pot place! Sides you get yourself and there is a great abundance of choices, vegetables, seafood, egg rolls etc. We got the classic AYCE and with 6 people paid about $37 each total. Definitely got our moneys worth as the meat servings are huge and came quickly. Definitely would come again, but come with a decent group of people. read more

We've been to Happy Lamb Hot Pot a few times now, and it's consistently a solid choice for both lunch and dinner. One of the perks they offer is being able to join the waitlist through the Yelp app, which makes planning ahead super convenient. They offer the option of 1 to 3 shared broths, and I always go for the vegetarian Golden Cabbage broth--it's umami, fermented, and loaded with Sichuan peppercorns, so be ready for that signature tingle. I also like that you can grab toppings buffet-style, and the sauce bar is a nice touch, complete with a some snacks. The only downside is the ventilation--the smell of hot pot really clings to your clothes, so don't be surprised if you're still catching whiffs of it a few days later unless you wash them. read more

I love hot pot! And Happy Lamb has been a Chinatown staple for a while. It's also one of the more affordable hot pot place in my opinion (and free on your birthday!). We got there right around when it opened on a Saturday and didn't have to wait in any line, but it does fill up fast. They have both regular and spicy veggie broth! Huge win! I like this location because the toppings are like an all you can eat buffet style. You go up and fill your plate with what you want, which I appreciate. At the other location, if I asked for broccoli, I would get a huge plate I couldn't finish. Here, I could take exactly how much I wanted. I love the selection of mushrooms and tofu!! Yum! They also have some fruit, dessert, and soft drinks included. This is a really great food experience! read more

What is the lunch price? Or is it same price all day?
I can't see the pricing online is it priced as all-you-can-eat or by individual item?
Yes it is. They do give a time limit on tables but it's definitely tley enough time. The various meats you pick and the rest of the buffet is all you can eat. It's seriously a good deal.
Can anyone confirm if the Chinatown location (on Wentworth) is BYOB?
No, it's not. But they do sell liquor.
Can I eat here if I have shellfish allergy?
Depends on your level of sensitivity. You would have to trust that none of the service-ware would come into contact with something to which you are allergic. Shellfish is prevalent in the restaurant for all to handle.
Is there any way to call and make a reservation for larger groups? no one ever answers the phone and the voicemail is full

Everytime I have gone during the week with a party between 3-5 people it has been little to no time at all... if any 10 mins max.
Is the tomato broth option vegan?
They have a vegan broth. It is not the tomato broth. But it is wonderful. You can get it spicy or mild. I recommend doing both as a half & half. Sooooo very good. Answering your questions I want to go now.
May I come in alone when birthday?
Yes. They will check your id so make sure you are there on your bday. Happy birthday
