Yes. This place really looks like this! Everything seriously looks like paper. Or, as if you've stepped into doodlebob world if you're a Spongebob fan (IYKYK). It's pretty small inside, with maybe no more than 10 tables. When I came there was a large party taking up majority of the dining room, leaving about 4 tables left. We didn't have reservations, but I believe they take them. Luckily we were seated right away without any issues. They are known for their Asian cuisine. Think Taiwanese fried chicken sandwiches, Japanese mochi donuts, ube, vietnamese coffee, etc. What I tried: - Mochi donuts (1 strawberry, 1 chocolate) ; so fresh! 10/10 - Strawberry/peach lemonade boba; Extremely sweet, but good! Staff was super kind from start to finish. The only downside (which is big) - it is pretty dirty around the restaurant. With all the white, you can unfortunately spot things quicker. A deep clean would do the trick! read more

We're visiting Chicago for the weekend and TikTok led us here, it looked really cool! We got there and it was cute, just like the videos and pics I've seen on social media. However, it wasn't the cleanest but we were still willing to give it a try. When we arrived, the hostess/waitress asked if we had a reservation and I told her no but there were literally only 2 tables being occupied at the time, so she had us wait until she cleared another table. The menu gave a hibachi vibe, they had teriyaki bowls, unwich sushi rolls, soup, and specialty drinks but no fountain or canned drinks. I wanted the salmon and everyone else was getting chicken but that didn't happen because they were out of salmon. Really wasn't feeling the other options, so we canceled our order and left. I would definitely give the place another try but maybe earlier in the day and a different location. read more

The ambiance is incredible. Loved every inch of the space. All the hand drawn artwork is just stunning, but took my daughters for a treat and ordered two bubble teas, 3 donuts, and a wiggly cat and unfortunately or fortunately (went on the last day of service) wouldn't go back for treats. One of the bubble teas was a delicious $9 drink with a lovely LaBuBu popsicle. The other tea was mango and too sweet for my daughter to drink so I drank it. As yummy as it was, not something I'd run back for. The donuts were great. Strawberry, chocolate and ube...all delicious. The wiggly cat is something my kids won't let me live down. After playing with it for a few minutes, they each took a bite and said they don't like it. Since it was $16, I couldn't very well let it go to waste, but certainly could have done without it. 2D restaurant offers a cute aesthetic, but the service is lacking. We came on a Saturday night with no reservation, at first we were told there were no tables, and we could order to go. Once we mentioned we were only stopping in for drinks and desserts, we were offered a table. It took a while for someone to take our order. I could tell other tables were annoyed with the slow service as well. The place inside is pretty small. We tried the viet coffee and the hanoi affogato which both were quite mediocre in flavor. The kids loved the wiggle wiggle dessert since they got to decorate the cat. They did not like the taste of the cat pudding but loved the fruit and mochi donut. Such amazing food - I love their chicken sandwiches and bowls. But more than the food, I love how the owner does such great philanthropy in the area and hosts all these thoughtful events for the community. Each year on National Taiwan Day (10/10) they have these crazy deals that are so worth. Be on the lookout! This year their proceeds went towards the disaster fund in Taiwan. We also go to make our own mochi and heard how the owner was teaching kids in the nearby schools for lunar new year too!! If I had to give some critique, the drinks here are not my favorite but the food and service more than make up for it! Very family friendly and great place to catch up with friends. read more

I saw this place on some Food Network show and knowing we were going to Chicago soon, looked it up. This restaurant is unique on the inside. There are about 8 tables, so I made a reservation to make sure we got in. Our reservation was at noon on a Friday, and there was only one guy serving the entire place. He didn't even take our order until 12:25pm. Our water didn't arrive till 12:45 pm. Once we ordered, the food came out relatively fast. The spicy cucumber salad was of ample size and VERY spicy to us. The fried chicken for the sandwiches I believe are thighs and the breading was great. It's just that the chicken pieces were small on my sandwich, but bigger on others. The fries and the onion rings are fantastic. We all (party of five) had never tried a Mochi donut so we ordered three different ones. We liked them all. I'm not a donut fan, but these might convert me. This is a one and done place for us because of the service. It is worth going once for the ambiance, onion rings, fries, and chicken. And I might order take-out next time. read more

This place is too cute. It's literally made for social media post like Instagram and TikTok. The food is almost secondary. Now we got here when it was empty. I don't know how its gonna look like when it's filled with people. But for now we have the place all to ourselves. We had both ube drinks both very pretty - nice. I prefer not to mix my matcha ube, so I can taste each distinct flavor same with the ube coffe. One gripe is it's serve on plastic tumblers which doesn't photograph as well. read more

Definitely recommend making a reservation to get a seat inside. The view when you walk in is trippy with just seeing black and white. I love how the plates of food are full of color! We started off with chef recommended potatoes croquettes. Boy, these things were light and pillowy! The sauces were yummy. We also each got entrees. I went with the Chicago Tribune recommended fried chicken sandwich. Bread was super fluffy, coleslaw gave a lil sweetness, and pineapple chili sauce chicken gave a lil zing! What a great sammie!! Kevin got the chicken platter which came with 2 sides, cabbage and rice. He also got the pineapple chili but his was hotter since the chicken was more coated than my sandwich. The doughnuts were good - "loved them all except the wreath one. The snowman doughnut was fire!! Our plan was to eat in, but a warm winter in Chicago has not done the restaurant well and it was just a little dingy. I have sympathy because I am sure that it is hard to keep up with an all white restaurant. However, you chose to be an all white restaurant so... We will try again. A cool and unique 2D comic dining experience in black and white. I felt like I walked inside of a comic book. A fun place to come and visit with family, friends, solo date. My server Alexander was attentive and friendly. I arrived when the door opened to beat the crowd of people that had reservations. I was instantly seated, handed a menu with a nice tall cold glass of water. Alexander was even so kind to let me try some of their chicken. I wasn't a big fan of the flavor but it was crispy and cooked well. I was more impressed with the art dimensional of this place. This is a must hidden gem to come and visit. Great to take some photo shoots for social media. I just ended up ordering the lemon blossom fizz lemonade and a chocolate mochi donut. Both were a delicious treat. My total was $16.19. I came here on my way to the pride fest and it turned out to be a really nice place to stop by! When we first walked in, we were greeted by the employee who informed us that it was short staffed and just them at the front. I appreciated the heads up and we just got drinks to go but they let us sit inside anyways. The design of this place is unlike anything you see and I love how you feel like you are in a comic. The boba was pretty good and super refreshing. I do think the boba was not as fresh and a little too mushy but nothing bad. read more

Tried the food this time, which was actually pretty delicious! The fried chicken was perfectly crunchy, juicy, and well seasoned. We got the Taiwanese fried chicken and curry over rice and it was yummy! I would recommend. I would come back here and order from the food menu again in the future! read more

Took the kids for snacks and had a bit of a wait on a weekday with no reservations. We were a bit disappointed that there were no cat puddings left but being surrounded by art and the sweet chewy mochi donuts more than made up for it. We will have to go back for a cat pudding! read more

Cute place. The have food here but we came for the pudding cat. You don't have to get the whole wiggly mountain. We just got the cat on a mochi donut. This was a good option. We each got to paint our own. The servers are super nice. The space and decor are great. The pudding cat is coconut pudding. The mochi donut was lychee flavored neither was too sweet. Coming to the 2d restaurant was one of the highlights of my chicago trip!! I highly recommend getting a reservation for the meal experience. This comes with a drink, side salad, main course, dessert, and a photoshoot at the end! I chose to get a milk tea, asian crunch chili sandwich, and we all picked a different mochi donut at the end. Everything tasted amazing (I wish the food looked 2d too) and I was really satisfied at the end. The photo experience then had us pose in a van outside and peeking around various doors and corners of the restaurant. It was super cute! I would definitely recommend coming here to everyone. I was scared it would be a bit gimmicky but the food and experience were all great. They also provided coloring sheets as a fun activity while you wait or after you finish your food. My kiddo saw a jiggly cat on YouTube and said she really wanted one and that's how we found ourselves at 2d. I booked a reservation we arrived a bit early and were seated pretty promptly. If you're not a fan of dark meat don't bother. It's all dark meat. The server was really nice. I booked for 3 of the prepaid meals. The menu says you get the following- A beverage A salad A sandwich or tenders A donut Only I got the salad. I assumed we would all get a salad as a starter and then our main of choice with fries but that's not how it works. You get the option of either a salad or fries which should be more clearly stated. Also, I didn't realize they had other options bc I would have preferred like a rice dish or just a salad with the chicken vs the sandwich. They should just make a set price and you choose your entree vs just between a sandwich or tenders imo. The Asian crunch chili sandwich was very good. Had a nice flavor profile it also tasted like cumin which I wasn't expecting. My kiddo does not like dark meat so she didn't eat the tenders and only ate the fries. The mochi donuts were our favorite. The strawberry- you could taste the strawberry The Oreo were good The ube just tasted very sweet with no real flavor We really enjoyed the texture of them. We didn't care for our drinks. The only good one was the sugar milk tea boba. The jiggly cat was a cool and unique experience but it was not very good. I've been watching the reviews of this on Yelp for awhile now and thinking it would be a fun spot to take the kids. When I saw it was right next to Blue Man Group I thought it was the perfect spot to grab a snack beforehand. Unfortunately, I didn't think to make a reservation for 415pm and they told me they were fully booked, although majority of the tables in the restaurant were empty. The host took pity on us and said he could eat us since we only planned to be there 30 min. He also gave us 10% off due to a partnership with Blue Man Group. We ordered the holiday mochi donuts (eggnog one so good), fries (so so), boba lemonade (boys seemed to like) and I got a holiday tea (a little sweet for my liking). The restaurant itself is super fun with lots of photo ops. I had the urge to color on the walls, but obviously a no no. It was a fun visit. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to just here, but fun spot if in the area. read more

If you like the taste of matcha, don't get their strawberry matcha because it's super watered down and just tasted like a super light strawberry milk. It was the biggest let down out of everything I tried. The chicken sandwich had crispy chicken and a runny egg which I liked but overall thought it was boring and didn't have much flavor. The matcha donut texture is good but nothing special. I wish there was also a space for people to wait for takeout since everyone is pretty crammed by the door. read more

We were excited to go to 2D Restaurant based on the photos we've seen. So we went on a whim without any reservations. But we were lucky that we got seated around 5 pm. The interior was really interesting with the comic look. We took some photos in the lobby. There was some confusion on whether we could be seated because it looked like they had a new employee at the front. Then a more experienced employee came and squeezed us into a small table. While ordering our food, the new employee told us that they were out of the chicken patty that they usually use for the fried chicken sandwiches but that they could use chicken tenders instead, so that's what we did. It took about 15 minutes for our first drink to come out. Meanwhile, the people at the table seated next to us came about 10 minutes after we did and they got all of their drinks within a few minutes of ordering. Then our second drink came about 30 minutes later. By this time, we were almost finished with our food. And we never received our third drink so we had to ask them to cancel the order and remove it from the bill. The food came out one by one too, spaced out about 10 minutes apart. When it came time to pay the bill, the new employee left the handheld payment processor at our table and left to help others. I have never seen that before. I am usually very reluctant to give a negative review, so I gave them a chance to respond to an internal feedback system that they had. But I did not hear back from them. I hope this feedback will help them improve service and the food. There is better food in Chinatown for Taiwanese fried chicken sandwiches and boba drinks. After taking the initial excitement of taking photos, it comes down to food and service. And they failed in an epic way on both those aspects. I recommend asking to take photos and then go somewhere else to eat. read more

I give this restaurant 5 stars! I will definitely go there again! The menu looks amazing and its hard to choose just one or two dishes. Ive always wanted to try the jello cat and wiggle it. It looks so cute, soft, and delicious! The interior of the restaurant blew me away! I was amazed by the creative doodles all over the walls. I even got to meet the waiter, who is also the owner of the 2D restaurant. They were kind enough to let us take photos of the doodles. I read about the 2D restaurant and the owners lives in a manga. It was a heartwarming story about how they first met and opened the restaurant in Chicago. They were both passionate about food and worked together to make their dream a reality. Food: there was so much to choose from, but ultimately, my friend and I decided to share the Asian Crunch Chili chicken sandwich. While the sandwich looked tasty, the portion was definitely HUGE, so I requested it be split in half so I could share it. This sandwich consisted of spicy chili oil and a sunny-side-up egg (so the yolk was runny). I believe there was also spicy mayo -- all these, combined with the fried chicken, made this meal pretty heavy. I tried to eat with a fork & knife, but it didn't do much to mitigate the mess either. I also ordered fries as a side; though simple, it was appropriately salty and crispy on the outside but warm & soft on the inside. Ambiance: The decor of this restaurant was so cute! I wish I had taken more photos of the interior design. It's so cool how the art is hand drawn! There were several photo opportunities as well, and there was even outdoor seating. I found the sandwich to be delicious! However, I can only give it a 4/5 because of how heavy it was, so it is not a place I would visit often, and it is more of a once-in-a-blue-moon meal. Went here to work and discovered they did not have wi-fi. A lot of photo opportunities and a very unique design. Because it was a Tuesday during the day, there was no wait to be seated. Once seated, you walk to a counter to place your order. I ordered a Vietnamese coffee, grill rooster sandwich, and sweet chili fries. The coffee and fries were great! Friendly service! Came in with 4 excited tweens and they loved the interior, they especially loved the outdoor "play" area with a van, motorcycle and old school phone. Lots of laughs. Food was fresh. They especially loved the teriyaki chicken. They got tokens for a claw machine, which was another fun bonus. Tweens said "this has been one of the most fun days we've had in a long time!" I have no idea how my daughter heard about this place, but glad we went there. I think I liked it more than she did lol I brought my mini me to 2D on a Saturday afternoon. The aesthetic is interesting; not sure how to describe it, but I'll point out she loved taking pictures while inside. The only issue we ran into while here was with seating. After arriving on time for our reservation we had to wait 15 minutes for a table. The space is pretty small, and it's the type of spot where ppl can lounge for 90+ min with no pressure. The staff was very apologetic and the guy at the door was kind enough to let my daughter try one of the donuts for the wait (which made us both happy.) Once seated, you have to go to a window to place your order. But it didn't take terribly long for the food to come out and it was worth the wait. The star of the show was the 2D rooster chicken sandwich; I had the grilled version with the habanero sauce, and paired it with the wasabi fries (and if you like wasabi, these are a must.) I was impressed; my daughter had the chicken strips and fries which was good and we both had desserts. She had the churro mochi donut and I had the strawberry mochi platter. I wanted to do the strawberry mochi cake but they were out of that. Both desserts were good and surprisingly light (e.g. I figured I would be full after the donuts but I wasn't.) We each had a beverage (I had the sweet tea limeade and she had the Nutella chocolate hot mocha.) I didn't care for the limeade, but my daughter loved the mocha. Overall the tab was ~$60. read more

For those who don't like to read reviews, the short version: DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE! Longer version: I was on a roadtrip and saw this pop up as a cool place to visit from Yelp. I didn't have a reservation, but I will tell you now, that truly does not matter. People even with a reservation were made to wait well past their reservation time. It was difficult to find parking and I was about a half a mile away. Once I walked in, I saw two people serving in this small town establishment. I was never acknowledged. Like ever. I stood at the front desk and no one ever came over. I finally sat in a side chair and ordered online for pick up.... TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I was looked at multiple times but never approached. I ordered 4 mochi doughnuts and a wiggle cat. After waiting for 40 minutes.... I finally went up to the front to see what was going on. Everything is premade and the tables weren't even full! I was told my order would be right out! I was given 4 doughnuts (not the flavors I ordered, with a long curly black hair in the box!! Unfortunately I didn't notice that until I got to my car) I was given 3 wiggle cats.
