This neighborhood gem transports you straight to Taiwan. Fresh noodles, beautifully braised beef, and layers of aromatic spices come together in the most comforting, flavorful way. It's wonderful home style cooking with so much character that every bowl feels like a little trip abroad. The cocktails are just as creative, matching the energy and personality of the food perfectly. And the service? Attentive, genuinely kind, and welcoming the kind that makes you feel as though they've been waiting for you to arrive. One of my favorite noodle spots, and absolutely a place I'll return to again and again. read more

Happy hour or from 5-7 but for some reason is ONLY offered is at the bar. Reservations require a monetary hold on your credit card, despite the local wisdom that this place always has a lot of seating available during prime dinner time. In that same vein, when a few friends joined to expand our party size to 7, we were approached by the waitress and pressured to order more drinks, because tables of 7 or more must spend a min of $35/person and were weren't close to that yet. Even more striking was that she said that it was because the kitchen was so small (relevance?) and while we were the only ones taking up space in an empty and expansive back patio (please just appreciate the business). The food was perfectly adequate, the Taiwanese fried chicken is popular there and was good, but I feel it was a bit off. There was a hint of something like cinnamon sugar, I expect my chicken to err on the side of salty. Their offer fruity beers, and from my tasting of the lychee variety, it was lower in abv but sweet and refreshing. The bartender serving is drinks was fun, he brought over shots for us to experiment which elevated our overall experience read more

Heart warming, comforting, and very developed flavor profiles in the dishes. Portions are the perfect size and quality is amazing. The noodles were chewy, soft, and buttery. While the sauce was oil based, it was not oily at all- it hugged the noodles perfectly. The fried chicken had a hint of cinnamon and a perfect crunch. The bowl had plenty of rice and we dumped the entire chili crisp add on which elevated the dish in the most delightful way. Service was quick and friendly. The restaurant itself is well decorated and is a total vibe. Definitely coming back to try more menu items!! read more

Really cute and welcoming restaurant - the decor was lovely and everyone working there was super friendly. Came with a group of five and it was easy to make a reservation. We started with deep fried king oyster mushrooms and then I got the creamy miso mushroom noodle soup. The deep fried king oyster mushrooms were really good - great light batter and seasoning. My noodle soup left more to be desired in terms of flavor. The noodle texture was awesome, but despite there being miso I felt it was not salty enough and I kept adding the deep fried oyster mushrooms in my bowl to give it more flavor. I also felt there weren't that many mushrooms in the soup. I'd overall rate my experience as a 3.5 but rounding up to four because the service was really attentive and warm. read more

Absolutely amazed with how good the food is! Housemade braised beef noodle soup was flavorful, delicious, meat was very tender and melt in your mouth. Also tried the seasonal duck confit vermicelli and the meat was also very soft and fell off the bone. Ingredients are different than what they normally use on the regular menu so it was worth trying and was not disappointed. The appetizer chicken wings with sweet potato was light, cooked in beef tallow. The highlight was the ranch dipping sauce which was also housemade! They also have a few different options for desserts and all housemade as well. Can't wait to return and try their Sunday brunch option. read more

I have been wanting to try Minyoli for a while, and few weeks ago the opportunity came over for it. And undoubtfully it was A-MA-ZING. My gf ordered the flight, and there was a person explaining to her what every glass is made of, the notes and the process that made it . The waiter was amazing, he was on everything and making sure we were doing great. The place wasn't loud and good to enjoy time with your friends without yelling. For appetizers we got different things, like the popcorn chicken, the chicken wings, tofu and century egg, braised beef and kelp, radish and tofu. Everything was amazing and love all of it. For main dish I got the jajamien, that I completely finish it quick since it reminds me the classical taiwanese food on china, so it is great to know there is one around the city to eat whenever I have a craving for it. And for dessert, the ice cream taco was on point, I was sketptical at the beggining but once you try it, it all make sense, the flour tortillas, with the ice cream and some crunchyness, was unexpectedly amazing. I came on a Sunday early dinner time by myself because I was craving noodles. The service was friendly & fast. The space was big & loved the outdoor patio set up despite the mosquito bites. My first time in was a rushed experience because I gave myself less than 45 minutes to order, eat, & pay so thats why the average scoring since I didn't have time to really enjoy. The chilled noodles was the only thing I got and honestly a great food if you are in a hurry like I was. My only complaint was portion, spice level, & pricing. It was $22 for the pictured meal (not including tip). The added $1 for chili crisp was worth the added taste but honestly no spice. I added the whole thing to my noodles & ate it by itself and no kick for my taste buds. I'm not sure the process of making the meal & understand prices are increasing to help with inflation so will I would love to try other things to better rate my experience. I would definitely want to try their daily tasting menu pictured because that seems more aligned with what I review for when it comes to quality, portion, & pricing. Still definitely a place to check out! read more

4.5/5, phenomenal and cute spot for lunch. Warm, hot noodles with a super clean interior. Staff was super friendly. Friend street corn was quite tasty, and something I haven't had before. Big fan of the overall flavor level and seasoning. Sesame noodles were also good. One very small complaint I had was pointed out by our server. "The sesame noodles taste great when you order the chili oil and add it", which is true, but I also tried it and the noodles tasted pretty meh without it. I wish the noodles just came with the sauce included instead of having to pay extra, bc the jump in flavor was so much I couldn't really imagine eating it without. Again, super minor gripe read more

This was my second time at Minyoli, and it was even better than the first! We went as a group and split a few dishes. Even thought the restaurant was busy, the service was was quick and attentive. They were good about refilling our waters which I appreciated. We tried the corn, the sesame noodles, and the vegan mushroom lu rou fan. Even though the corn was a side dish, it might have been my favorite! The corn was so tender and I LOVED the garlicky, sticky coating. It was soooo good! The noodles and rice dish were also both very good. The lu rou fan rice dish was on the sweet side and was really good when you add chili oil. The sesame noodles were also so great. I love that there are veryyy good vegan / veg options! This is a spot you can't miss if you're in Andersonville! read more

My goal is to try 50 new Chicago restaurants in 2025! Restaurant: 32/50 Month tried: June Favorite dish: TBD Was really bummed when we walked in to Minyoli on a Saturday morning and they were only serving their brunch menu, which doesn't have any noodles on it!! Well, they have one cold noodle salad, but really not what we were expecting walking into a restaurant known for their noodles. Even sadder - I did not like my chicken and waffles. It was a very unique combo of flavors, and could have been good except my waffle was completely raw inside. This is where my promise to rate every new restaurant this year is tough - I don't feel like my opinion of Minyoli after one brunch is very fair. I very much want to come back during dinner and actually have some noodles. I'm hoping to do that soon and update my review. read more

First off, the service here was exceptional. My friend and I sat at the bar and our waitress was so fun, informative, and answered our questions with enthusiasm and great detail. I got a rice bowl - the beef Lu-rou-fan- and my friend got the four gods niuroumian. We shared the popcorn chicken. For drinks I got the Taiwanese pineapple beer and she got the sour plum house soda. A few thoughts: I wish my main had a bit more of the beef + mushroom and less rice. The popcorn chicken was delicious and we both enjoyed the plum powder but do wish it was a bit more hot + crunchy texture-wise- the chicken was room temp and tasted like it had been sitting out for a bit. Our drinks were good although my friend did note that she wished there was more carbonation to her house soda. Overall, Minyoli is a cute spot with great ambiance and amazing service and we enjoyed the different flavors present in the dishes we ordered. read more

Went for the end of happy hour/dinner and had a great time sitting at the bar. I started with an Oolong Island Iced Tea cocktail, which was so smooth but probably as potent as its namesake. They have non-alcoholic options available as well. The sweet potato fries had a great texture from their light batter and delicious flavor. My friend and I both got the red braise noodles. I definitely recommend getting the combo beef and tendon. The tendon added a great texture unlike anything else. The flavor starts out almost like pot roast, but it gets richer and spicier as you eat. Makes for great leftovers! We shared the fried chicken, which was another great bite. I loved the seasoning, I think it was sour plum. I got the pineapple tart for dessert and my friend got the cheesecake. Both were really solid. The pineapple tart was super unique, definitely recommend. This was kind of a last minute thing for us, so I'd love to try table service instead of bar seating next time. Really nice looking restaurant. read more

Amazing experience overall. We made reservations for Saturday evening; got sat quicky-- the space is beautiful and simply decorated. We ordered mocktails: nightmarket fruit stand and sour plum.. both we good and had unique flavors. We got fried chicken as an appetizer and it was super good, so much flavor and easy to eat. I could of eaten the whole thing by myself. Our entrees-- were fantastic. We ordered the spicy tallow and the beef noodle soup with tendons. The soup was excellent and the tendons just melts in your mouth. The beef broth was the best I've had at a restaurant (perfect for fall weather). Finally, we ordered the cheesecake, it was good but not memorable. I look forward to trying other items on the menu in the future. read more

Came here on a Thursday night with a friend. Booked a last minute reservation for 6:30pm -- vibes were nicer than most Asian spots, with alcohol on the menu (so price was also higher) -- was surprised to find so many gluten free options which is often not the case for Taiwanese / Chinese food. So will have to come back with my husband who is gluten free. I checked the brunch menu and there aren't a lot of gluten free options for brunch so will have to come back for dinner -- I loved the beef Lou rou fan (rice dish)! The wood ear salad was pretty good too. Not a huge fan of the sesame noodles. -- the bubble tea was not bad but a little too sweet. I find bubble tea is often too sweet when I order so I often ask for 30% sweetness but forgot to do it here. read more

Restaurant week visit! For $45, I felt the dinner was excellent. My favorite was the fried chicken rice and the beef noodle soup. Anisa and I went here, and when we picked up a Taiwanese Fried Chicken piece with curiosity and placed it in our mouths, our eyes bulged with excitement, and our lips pursed with a smile. Taiwanese chicken is a popular street snack at night markets, and has a dusting of star anise, cloves, cinnamon, Sichuan peppercorns, and fennel seed. The chicken bites are itty bitty, but are still somehow magically juicy inside. We asked for suggestions and were educated about the Red-braised Niuroumian Soup Noodles, which is made with a 24-hour beef bone broth. You get a choice of a full portion of beef, tendon, or half and half. The pickled mustard greens stood out to me in the soup, as they added a brightness and acidity to the rich beef and bone broth. I am already looking forward to the leftovers, because they will be just as good, if not better. The Ganban Noodles are served hot in winter and cold in the summer. The colorful room brought some brightness and warmth to a cold Chicago winter, and the warm-hearted staff did too. read more

Came here to check out their Sunday only menu. If you prefer to sit inside the cutesy Asian decorated restaurant I highly recommend reservations in advance or else they can only seat you in their back patio which is clean but lacks charm. The foods came out very fast so kudos to the chefs. Our waiter however provided bare bone minimal service. The popcorn chicken was a good start as its light batter and perfectly seasoned profile provided a promising start to what we were expecting afterwards...a handpie (must use the added sauce for flavor) and the hose special sesame noodle served cold was very underwhelming. Had a very starchy aftertaste in my mouth. Sadly i wished I had come in on any other day except Sunday to try the main menu items. Sorry this one fell flat for me. read more

Minyoli? Meh. I ventured into Minyoli this evening for the first time and was sincerely hoping that the food would be better than the verdicts rendered by several of my friends- which, unfortunately, ranged from mediocre to disappointing. Let's start on a positive note. The ambiance is inviting and the service was decent to good. The prices are on par with other places in the neighborhood. As for the food and drink, well everything was ok, with a couple of stand-outs. My friend and I started with shared appetizers of the talow wings, which were tender, nicely seasoned and accompanied by sweet potato fries that were also good. The other appetizer was the cucumber salad, which was plentiful and offered a nice balance between the pickling and the spice. We originally planned on another starter, but they were out of that. Glad we "settled" on the cucumber salad, since that was the best part of our meal. When it came time to order our main dishes, I selected one of the specials. No dice. They were out of that too. My friend ordered the noodles with beef and the server talked it up enough that I followed suit. I mentioned light-heartedly that I never usually order the same meal as the person I'm dining with and the server said: "You won't be disappointed." Only problem is...I was disappointed. When the entrée arrived, it looked good enough to eat. There was a lot of chili crisp on one side of the bowl, which I love, and about five slices of beef- all over a heap of noodles. I mixed it all together and was excited and ready for a pow of heat and flavor. Only problem is...there was neither. The chili crisp was less than mild and not at all crispy. The noodles were bland, and the meat was way over cooked, chewy and fattier than it should have been. As my friend perfectly put it, the whole bowl was very "one note." As if to add insult to injury, I had a non-alcoholic pineapple and ginger soda. I asked the server if this was very sugary and he said no. In fact, since the soda is made in-house the server told me that they could keep the sugar level down for me. He also said that the drink was very "ginger forward," which was great by me since I love spicy, spicy ginger. When the drink arrived, it was bland, just like the entrée. It wasn't too sweet, so that was good. But there was only a hint of ginger and a whisper of pineapple. The final coup came at the end of the meal. When the bill came, my friend and I both presented our cards to split the bill as we customarily do. That's when the server told us they only take one card. I get not splitting a bill by more than three or four cards per table, but two? That's preposterous! Look, it wasn't a big deal since my friend and I are like brothers. But what if someone happened to be on a first date or whatever? Yes, Venmo, Zelle, etc., can all happen. But not everyone has that luxury. It's awkward, unnecessary and, frankly, cheap of a restaurant that doesn't want to pay the swipe fees. When I politely mentioned to the server that taking only one card was a bit of a surprise, he told me that it was posted on the menu. He was also seemingly a bit annoyed that I brought it up...like I was being bratty or something. Ok. I'll take his word for it. But if it was on the menu, then it wasn't prominent enough to take note of as I was looking at all the meal options (my friend also didn't see it). I checked to see if the one card policy was posted on the front door when we were leaving, and it wasn't. Anyway, not the end of the world, but something you should be prepared for if you dine here. In the end, I sadly have to agree with my friends' assessments of Minyoli as a mediocre to disappointing dining experience. read more

I first discovered "Minyoli" when I spotted an interview about the restaurant on a Taiwanese YouTuber's channel. As a fellow Taiwanese, I knew I would pay a visit at some point, but little did I know that Chicago Restaurant Week 2025 ($45/person) gave my partner and I the opportunity to try it out. Our visit began with a tiny glitch. I didn't think about making a reservation on a Thursday evening. The host directed us to the bar seating first. We then found out we couldn't order from the restaurant week menu set. We left with a slight disappointment but soon happened to snatch a reservation online for a table seating later that evening. With that said, things worked out for our favor. The great thing about the restaurant week menu set was the ability to sample various Taiwanese dishes that I was familiar with back home. The pickled cucumbers were spot on and they were very similar to how my mom prepared! Likewise, the fried cabbages were crispy and fresh. I would say the night was up to a great start. The fried popcorn chicken and fried king oyster mushrooms were fine, yet I had better elsewhere. They were quite salty and that was the only flavor profile I could recall. On the other hand, the rice dishes were slighly plain, but rice itself was well-cooked. Although I enjoyed the Taiwanese beef noodle (niu ro mian...the transliteration), I felt there was something missing in the broth. I did want to make shoutout to the very tender beef and beef tendons. These were delicious! I found the coconut ice cream very refreshing and it minimized the garlicky smell in my mouth...lol. My partner enjoyed the black sesame dumplings himself. He didn't expect the dessert to be hot and soupy. Nevertheless, that could just be the right choice to end our dinner in a cold and rainy January night in the city. Parking near Minyoli wasn't hard to find. Clark Street in Andersonville has many fun local businesses to explore, so the location itself couldn't be better! read more

This is hands down the best Taiwanese restaurant in Chicago. Super authentic Juan Cun Taiwanese cuisine, and their dishes like Taiwanese corn on the cob (appetizer), spicy tallow dry noodles, Four Gods Beef Noodle Soup, and frozen pineapple tart/pie dessert (a family recipe) with coconut or prickly pear ice cream served on the side are all phenomenal. Excellent, attentive and prompt service as well from the waiter. They also carry a wide assortment of beverages like Kavalan, Calpico, Hei Song Sarsaparilla and Guava Juice, Apple Sidra and many cocktails. I was talking to Chef Rich Wang and his cousin X Wang and they were saying they also served Taiwanese breakfast on Sundays, freshly prepared, and they are the only place in Chicago that has it. I asked them if they were planning to serve Bawan, and they said not currently, but there is a place called Oriental something that serves it located in a food court in the Chicago suburb / next town over of Westmont. The restaurant is also located in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago. Most highly recommended, and a must check out if you are a fan of Taiwanese cuisine! read more

We were waiting to visit for a while after seeing it on social media and we finally were able to go! The best thing ever was the corn ribs appetizer! It was so delicious and flavorful! Every bite was just so good and the umami flavor was killing it... but unfortunately, that was the only thing we ordered with flavor. Next was the cucumber salad and it had no flavor and wasn't very crisp. It was just eating cucumber in oil so it made me pretty sad for $8. I love cucumber salad at restaurants and it usually is so addicting! Just not this one. I got the beef noodle soup (consumé base) and I've never had soup so bland. It was pretty disappointing since I heard it was cooked for hours so I was super excited. :( It didn't even have a delightful light beef flavor and just tasted like water with the essence of beef. The beef pieces were extremely tender though and was very good. Just the broth having no flavor really ruined the dish for me. The portion is small in my opinion for $21 and for it to have no flavor is crazy for that price. I also tried the zhajiangmian and it too... had no flavor. It was very strange to me that I couldn't really taste anything, even the pungency bean paste normally has. I've eaten the Chinese and Korean renditions of the dish since I was a kid and always loved it. Usually my food is way too salty at Asian restaurants, so it is weird for me to find one that under seasons instead of over. The restaurant itself is very personable and I absolutely love the mascot. We also had great service and the waiter was extremely kind. Sucks that the most important thing, the food, wasn't that great because everything else was nice. read more

Named after Chef Rich Wang's Juàncūn neighborhood in Taipei Minyoli is a Noodle Shop on North Clark Street focused on hearty flavors that are fresh yet bright with elements of Szechuan cuisine but also distinct elements of pickling and "red-braised cooking" from the Shanghai River delta. A former lawyer who refocused his career during the pandemic, no doubt a bold move but at the same time unsurprising to anyone who'd dined with Rich, it is alongside his cousin X that Minyoli works largely as a two-man show while showcasing an equally personal sort of Food. Warmly decorated in brick and blonde wood, the painted ceiling a relic of times past, it is after warm greetings that guests are introduced to menu divided into five sections, "Starters" comprised of Salads and fried bites such as Corn "Ribs," Fish Cakes and umami-rich Chicken that each get better with a trio of housemade Dips. Busy on Saturday afternoon, the staff of just five at lunch serving a nearly full house, Noodles arrived piping hot with the medium-spicy Ganban glistening beneath tender Shank and Niuroumian Beef Noodle Soup a worthy signature bolstered by melting Tendon. Tempted by Dessert even after Oolong Bubble Milk Tea, Minyoli's take on Tiramisu losing out to Wang's family recipe for Pineapple Pie, suffice it to say both it and the housemade Ice Creams are exceptional enough to justify going back for all by themselves. read more

Love what Minyoli is doing here & I am always going to support Taiwanese/ Taiwanese American businesses, but don't come here expecting "traditional." I can appreciate that they're doing their own thing like adding dang gui (當歸) to their beef noodle soup broth, but it ain't gonna taste like your Ah Ma's & for me - that's totally okay! We ordered the majority of the menu - per my usual ordering style: *Lu Wei 滷味 - if you're not familiar, it's like braised starters typically served cold. These reminded me of home in a good way :) *Both Niu Rou Mian - the "red-braised" (紅燒牛肉麵) and the consomme version (清燉牛肉) - the latter is so so unique but again using dang gui is probably polarizing for most diners lol. The red braised was good and I'm just happy I didn't have to make it myself but tbh better than most in the midwest!! *Beef Tallow Noodles (椒麻牛油麵佐滷牛腱) - our server reccommended this one and I enjoyed it! if you like the simple goodness of dan dan noodles or garlic chili noodles, this is a good one! *Lu Rou Fan (牛滷肉飯) - super interesting that they use beef for this here because they're beef centric! Again a departure from 'tradition' as Taiwan is a big pork country! Flavors were really good though and the beef was tender! I will be back for dessert, brunch when I'm in town! read more

Chicago has a wide variety of Asian restaurants, but the most popular types such as Chinese, Japanese (mostly sushi and ramen) and Korean seem to dominate. Minyoli, a Taiwanese restaurant, is a great and rare find. I went there on recent winter night, and I enjoyed the warm cozy atmosphere. First, the food was excellent. I ordered the shrimp spring rolls as an appetizer, the red-braised niuroumian and Taiwanese fried chicken rice as mains and the Taipei style cheesecake. The fried chicken dish was delicious and a very elevated version of the popcorn chicken often sold in boba shops. The red-braised niuroumian had a flavorful broth and perfectly cooked noodles. The cocktail she sells shallots by the Seashore was nothing like I've had before. I enjoyed it, but be warned that it is shallot forward, and maybe not for everyone. The service was excellent. The wait staff was courteous, informative and our food came out fast and hot. The ambiance was warm and cozy and the decor was simple, but inviting. I'm edging more towards 3.5, but I'll round up. I LOVED the fried chicken. This is worth coming back for!! Perfectly fried and seasoned in such a way that makes it stand out. Tofu small plate was okay. Sesame noodles were okay (definitely needed a protein and some other flavor or acid to balance the richness). Complaints for minor inconveniences: * Restaurant week was all or nothing (meaning that every member of the group had to buy-in or nobody could). Not everyone has the same budget. * Credit card payments are 1 person (or 2 card with a split fee). TLDR: I'd come back for the fried chicken, or maybe just order take out (but not on Sunday because they don't offer take out on Sundays). read more
