He said he put it in a large cup for me... tasted like a normal lychee martini. Nothing outstanding

The server was super nice. His Chinese name is 哲山and he spoke fluent mandarin . He said he did his undergrad at Wu da which the full name would be Wu Han university . The food came out sooo slow and to be honest over cooked... salty and oily... they ran out of Celtice "my fave "and never heard that they ran out of this before...I ordered my lychee martini($10) since they didn't have hh and just waited and waited. He didn't bring me hot water and also lemon when I asked for it .( I usually just drink room temperature water these days but it felt good to have some warm lemon detox after massage and cuppin) I haven't n been to this location in a couple of years and have always just ordered Chengdu on ubereats whenever I craved for it. I thought dining in would be more fresh( and hot usually is). However I was quite disappointed!

Ordered take out here. Easy to call ahead and food was ready in 30 minutes. We ordered 3 types of steamed dumplings - lamb and dill, chicken and cabbage, and beef and scallion. We also got 2 noodle soups, scallion pancakes, sichuan string beans, and vegetable fried rice. The dumplings and noodle soups were the stand out items and had a great chew and flavor. The tomato broth with fried egg noodle soup was surprisingly good. The prices were reasonable for the quantity.

the shrimp shumai was tasty! Lots of seating and very authentic. The service was fine. The prices are great though. The beef noodle soup I got was about $13 and a massive portion. However, the broth itself was not SUPER flavorful. It tasted watered down but would go again bc the prices were good

I've always been a Lao Sze Chuan girl but lately Chengdu has stolen my heart. My go to dishes: - yushiang eggplant!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I crave on the weekly, it's so soft and flavorful!) - twice cooked pork (both crispy and tender and a little spicy - look for their BOGO deals on the twice cooked pork on Uber Eats) - boiled fish sichuan style (a childhood fave of mine. Spicy and yummy!) - sichuan green beans (a staple - I like mine really soft and charred and usually that's the case here)

Love the authentic sichuan flavours here - you must get the sour fish (with live fish option)

The tantalizing smell of Sichuan spice made me stop at this Wicker Park restaurant. Our first dish was Yushiang Shrimp Tasty large shrimp with veggies in a savory. Just spicy enough sauce. Then we had the Yushiang egg plant. Pan seared oriental. Eggplant in a sweet savory sauce. Homestyle bean curd found its way to our table. Green beans and vegetables and a spicier tangy sauce. Very tasty very delicious and then we ended with beef with wild chilies. We ordered this medium, which was still a little hotter than we hoped for The waitress said at next time we order it you can tone it down by getting green peppers mixed in with the jalapeño peppers. Which would make it less spicy. A very satisfying meal. With unique flavors that tantalize your taste buds. Plenty of food here we took home leftovers, which made our lunch for the next day

Best Chinese/Sichuan in Lincoln Park! Great portion sizes and very friendly staff. The spicy cabbage starter, bonbon chicken, and braised pork belly (with tofu) were the standouts...will definitely be back soon.

Amazing food! Service is very quick at the restaurant but can be slower when ordering takeout or delivery.

Food was good! It was actually spicy. Some of the dishes were a little too salty unfortunately. Service was great.

We arrived just as doors were opening for lunch, and sat at the bar for apps and drinks. The lycheetini here is my fave, but be aware it is a potent drink. The lychee in the glass is a treat for the finish. Steamed Dim sum and crab rangoon are good and generous portions. You cannot go wrong with anything shrimp. Our bar tender/server (Fiona, I believe?) surprised my daughter with a birthday treat, sesame balls with a candle, which was so sweet! We had early dinner reservations so we did not stay for lunch, but I look forward to returning for a full meal. Great location on MI Ave!

Service was fine, nothing standout but about what I expected. 6/10. The Peking duck was the highlight. Crispy skin, juicy meat, and tasted super high quality. Only thing is the cucumbers weren't the freshest and I wish there was a bit more seasoning, but still amazing. 9.7/10. Easily up there with some of the best in Chicago. The other dishes didn't hit as much. The cumin lamb had great flavor but was way too fatty and oily. 4/10. The dry chili chicken had a nice crispy texture but also too oily. 6.5/10. Both weren't very spicy either. Overall, come here for the duck and you'll have a great time.

I was really…read morecraving some good Chinese food but did not want to go into downtown first to pick up and then head back home so I looked this place up and had decent reviews and decided to try it out. What really impressed me was they had a specific section of the menu which was titled "Salt and Pepper". Of course I was super excited to try the salt and pepper tofu so here's what we got: - we got the salt and pepper tofu - we got the American garlic broccoli - got the mala lamb. - Got a pair of complimentary vegetarian spring rolls. When I went to pick up the take-out order, I was shocked at how heavy it was. This was clearly a lot of food. I'll start with the lamb. Very well thought out packaging, to be straight. Because the lamb had a lot of oil and liquid in it, they put it in a plastic container, which they knew is going to leak. They put that entire container in a separate tiny plastic bag and wrapped it so that the juices from that would not come all over in the main bag. Really appreciate that. Now the lamb, while cooked okay, the flavor was just, you know, it did not do it for me. Add to that they really kept the lamb as relatively big pieces. They were thinly sliced but they were just large pieces. They could have been smaller for it to be easier to eat. Flavor-wise there was just too much black pepper, which is what I was expecting, but to match that there was no flavor as such. The salt and pepper tofu was a disaster. I got it from other places. The flavor just was not doing it. It was not crispy at all. Yes I have them take out salt and pepper tofu from many other places. It does leave its crunchiness to some extent. This one had zero crunch. In fact it was weird. Every piece that was stuck to the next one had something gooey on it. Just overall the flavor was very underwhelming. The American garlic broccoli was overcooked to the extent it did not have the firmness one would expect and was overcooked to the extent where some of the smaller pieces just disintegrated. The spring roll is wild. The casing was phenomenal. It was perfect for a spring roll even after opening it after one hour. Really appreciate that. The filling, however, there really weren't many vegetables in it at all. That was very disappointing. Overall I don't think I am going to grab food from here again. The reason they get the 3.5 stars, though, is they did a phenomenal job on the packaging of all the food. The quantity was well beyond what I expected. The food, however, I have to say, was a disaster. And maybe this is my taste. It may be it's a bit too Americanized and I have not been used to eating very Americanized Chinese food for the last many years. That might be the problem.

Tucked into a no-frills corner on the South Side, Dai Yee's looks modest from the outside, but step in after 10 p.m. and it's pure magic. The room is packed with everybody--sneakerheads, nurses coming off shift, club kids, cops, and couples on first dates who somehow heard the legend. The vibe is chaotic in the best way: woks roaring, orders flying, and that unmistakable perfume of sizzling garlic, ginger, and chili filling the air. The food is straight-up stupid good. The Hong Kong-style salt & pepper smelts are crackly, spicy, and gone in 30 seconds. The beef chow fun has that elusive wok hei (breath of the wok) that most places only dream of, wide rice noodles slick with smoky char and tender flank steak. The black pepper beef tenderloin is velvet-soft, glossy, and aggressively peppery in a way that makes you order extra rice just to survive the happiness. The Singapore noodles are bright curry perfection, and the Mongolian beef is saucy, crispy-edged, and borderline addictive. Portions are straight out of the 90s--massive trays that could feed a family of four for under $15. Cash-only, BYOB, and everything comes out blazing hot in under ten minutes even when the place is slammed. The ladies running the show are legends: fast, funny, and they'll roast you (lovingly) if you can't handle the spice level you asked for. If you leave Chicago without hitting Dai Yee's at least once (preferably at 1 a.m. with a six-pack), you didn't really experience the city. This is real-deal, no-filter, soul-satisfying Chinese food that reminds you why we fall in love with restaurants in the first place. Dai Yee's isn't just a restaurant; it's a Chicago institution in the making. I'd wait in line in a blizzard for those smelts. See you at midnight.
