Not as good as it seems online. We were very excited to visit but the food and service were pretty lacking, it made us regret not going somewhere else or even Joong Boo to eat in the parking lot. The food was just okay at best if I'm being generous, without much flavor - at least the steamed dumplings were lacking - and the staff was dismissive at best. When ordering the screen asks how much luck you want to tip but you're grabbing all of your food yourself and bussing your table yourself. I didn't realize that when tipping. I came in here today for a quick bite! I was so hungry. I was greeted quickly and they explained how things worked: order at the kiosks or sit yourself to order by QR code. I did the kiosk, they had about 4 I think. I was in a hurry so I didn't really take in the menu. I do wish though the menu was flexible because you could only order 12pc of X dumplings and couldn't mix it up. I wanted lamb and chicken, it would have been perfect to do 6 of each instead of 12 of each since I was one person. I made my order, sat myself; while waiting I checked out the outdoor seating and it wasn't inviting, kind of depressing lol it was dark and boxes on some tables and covered so no sun was coming in. But it had a lot of seating & long tables for big groups. When the food was ready they announced it and it showed ready on the screen. You go pick it up at the counter and all the sauces (soy sauce, black vineager, and chilli crisps) where at the table. The chicken and cilantro dumplings I ordered was delicious, I ate it so fast it's not as good as QXY in Chinatown but it was still really really good! They also had self serve water! This is a self-service dumpling spot where you order at a kiosk, pick up your own food, and bus your own dishes when you're done. Because of that, there's really not much service involved. The restaurant has a decent amount of seating, but the layout felt a little odd and not very cohesive. We tried a handful of items and overall came away feeling pretty underwhelmed. The steamed dumplings were probably the best thing we ordered, though even those were just okay. The chicken and mushroom dumplings were flavorful, but I didn't get much mushroom flavor. The pork, chive, and shrimp dumplings were my favorite of the bunch since the shrimp flavor came through nicely. That said, all of the dumplings could have been hotter and juicier. They arrived lukewarm and lacked the juicy bite I was hoping for. For the spicy chili oil wontons flavor-wise, they were good, but they tasted more like spicy sesame wontons than chili oil wontons. I'm used to this dish being served with a generous sauce, but these were dry. The crispy pork bites were an easy pass for me. They were soggy, mostly tasted like dough, and didn't have much pork flavor at all. For two people, our bill came out to almost $80, which felt pretty steep considering the quality and self-service setup. After seeing Union Dumplings House on an Instagram reel, I just knew I had to try it. I walked in on a Wednesday morning. It was super quiet, and I was the only one there. The host helped me use the kiosk to place my order. When my order was ready, which took a bit of time because everything is made fresh and cooked to order, she brought it right to me. I enjoyed the flavors of the pork and celery dumplings! When I asked for a to go box, the server gave me soy sauce and chili oil to go along with it so had all that I would need to eat my yummy leftovers. As documented by digital correspondence available to BBB upon request, the management actively engages in the following violations: 1. Tip Theft and Misappropriation: The business utilizes self-serve electronic ordering kiosks that solicit tips from customers. Management intentionally retains 100% of these kiosk tips and refuses to distribute them to the staff who prepare and hand out the food. 2. Abusive Working Conditions and Break Violations: Employees are strictly forbidden from sitting or even leaning against any surfaces during their entire shifts, forcing them to remain standing for hours without relief. Furthermore, during designated breaks meant for eating or personal phone use, staff are routinely forced to continue working while remaining on the clock. 3. Discriminatory Hiring and Workplace Harassment: Management engages in overt weight-based discrimination. I was excited to try this new dumpling restaurant in Lincoln Square. The friendly staff greeted us, explained how everything worked, and offered us samples. You can order from the QR code at the table or the kiosk at the front. After you order, you wait for your number to be called to pick up from the window. Everything was self-serve including water. There are lots of seating in the back. They even have a heated patio. It would be great for larger groups. We ordered the beef and onion dumpling (12pc), pork and chives (12pc) and lava xiao long bao (5pc). My favorite was the beef and onion dumpling because it was like a soup dumpling. We had it pan fried for an extra $1. Be careful with this one because the juices will squirt out. Pork and chive dumpling was good too. You will taste the chives. The lava xiao long bao was good too but the insides weren't filled like the photos. The filling size was similar to the dumplings. It had a sweet flavor to it. I would say that 12 pc dumplings would be filling for one person. It's a lot of pieces so my friends and I decided to share so that we could try different flavors. We decided to give this place a shot since our kids like dumplings. So surprised how good these were! They have so many options to pick from and also Baozi options as well. We chatted with the owners who were Chinese native from the region known for this type of foods. I also love that the soy milk you can get completely sugar free. Lots of room for improvement with Union Dumplings. The staff member at check-in was super friendly. You order on a kiosk and then wait for your number to be called. One set of dumplings was a bit cold in the center. The other dumplings (chicken) had good flavor. It appears that they are hand making them fresh and walking them over to the kitchen area for boiling. However, the man touching our dumplings was also touching his phone directly - kind of gross and unsanitary! The dumplings are very tasty and so were the wontons but I didn't particularly like the garlic cucumber salad as much as the traditional cucumber salad. The good: the fillings are freshly handmade and generously portioned (you can see them making it through the window into the open kitchen). They give you good soy and vinegar to mix for your dipping sauce, as they should - how many places don't do vinegar is surprising, but Union does. The bad: when I went, both dumplings (pan fried shrimp, pork, and egg, and boiled lamb/carrot) were really undercooked. It was most noticeable in the pan fried version, where the dough was still raw enough to show my fingerprints in the pillowy part and be crunchy in the pinched part. We sent them back to be re-cooked, which they did immediately with many apologies, and when they came back out they were - still exactly the same amount of undercooked. (They were different dumplings too - we knew because they accidentally switched which dumplings were fried and which were boiled. That's fine of course, just mentioning that they took the time to make entirely new ones for us.) I might still return to see if they've worked this out, and/or stick to boiled dumplings, because I did like the filling and I tend to have a lot of time to kill in Lincoln Square between Old Town School classes. read more

Both came out partially cooked. Sent back and asked for them to go. Got home and found two orders of partiality cooked shrimp dumplings. Decided to try again. Ordered for pickup and it said ready in 10 minutes. Arrived at 10 minutes and waited another 15. Dumplings were hardly warm 5 minutes after pickup and uninspiring. I came at a very busy time, but only waited a little more than 20 minutes for my food which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Honestly though, I didn't care for the dumplings. Not good but not bad either. I probably wouldn't go back considering the price. I found the prices a bit too high. I think I'd rather buy frozen dumplings at the grocery store. We tried a sample during a street fest so we decided to go back. While the dumplings are delicious- we got the sample platter- the wait time for takeout was 35 minutes. The ambiance of the interior is not what we expected and it seemed to make the wait longer than it needed to be. This is not a done in location, for sure. The lighting is direct- and very very bright. There are carts and supply boxes all over the floor/ Eating area. There's a bar, but it's very unwelcoming to sit at due to excessive clutter. I will say the dumplings are very good and made fresh. It is counter service so it is great as a quick bite. My issue is that the smallest quantity of dumplings you can order is 12 of one kind. That is a lot for one person to it. It would be great if you could order in 3's and 6's so you could try more than one flavor of dumplings. We were excited to try this restaurant in our neighborhood and maybe being excited was the mistake. The ambiance is a cross between a fast food restaurant and a cafeteria. We ordered one order of buns and one of dumplings to go. We waited in the restaurant for 20 minutes and decided to go have a drink across the street...25 minutes later we came back and our order still was not ready. We ended up having to wait 51 minutes for an order of 2 menu items! Was it worth it? No...nothing special about the food.
