This place is only a few blocks away from our house. It's not a big one and it seems to be carry-out only. But they keep it clean and tidy as possible as they can. I feel so lucky that we've come crossed this hidden gem! The lady who usually takes our orders is friendly and unbelievably efficient. For our two persons' dinner order, it only takes chef to complete cooking in 15 mins and 2-3 mins top for her to pack it all ready. No matter weekday evenings or weekend rush hours, the average waiting time has never been longer than 20 mins. I highly recommend their Mongolian beef and hot and sour soup! It's not possible that they have 3.5 stars. Perhaps they have a new cook but I had the worst Chinese food ever. Soooooo salty, soooooo mushy. Brown sauce was indistinct and three different dishes looked and tasted the same. They didn't have some items so they called me for substitutions which I appreciated BUT yuck. Really horrible. For years, we've been driving down Clark Street between our house in Lakeview and my parent's house in Andersonville. I mean we drive down this street, at least, four times every two weeks. So many opportunities when we could have just stopped in for some Chinese takeout and a 7-Eleven Coke Slurpee for dessert. We always past by Lee's Wok (hidden in the corner between 7-Eleven and Dunkin Donuts) and I am always telling my fiance that I am going to order from them. Well, the pandemic finally convinced me that I needed to support local small businesses so we ordered some Mongolian Beef and General Tsao's Chicken. It hit the spot. Okay it may not be gourmet and the owner may not be the friendliest person in the world, but the food is tasty and it's served hot in record time. Which is good enough for me! Recently I ordered some pot stickers (fried, not steamed) and they were piping hot and extremely fresh tasting. I was so taken with them that I added some extra change to the tip jar and the lady was extremely appreciative. So if you're planning on getting a carryout, please leave some extra change in the tip jar because not only will you get some delicious food at rock bottom prices, but it will be served in a timely manner. Decided to try out this place after recently moving to the area. I ordered online for pickup on a Tuesday night and got the General Tso's chicken (came with white rice) and a small order of chicken fried rice. Online order said it would be ready by 645pm, but I arrived 10 minutes earlier and it was ready so thumbs up for beating the time frame. I have to say, this is probably the best Chinese takeout I've ever had. Highly recommend. Every piece of chicken was 100% white meat. Normally when I go to these Chinese takeout restaurants (usually always order general tso) you get white/dark/funky looking mixtures of chicken pieces. Not here. It was piping hot and extremely tender. Not to mention a huge portion size. The sauce was sweet and on par. The chicken fried rice was also excellent. Huge portion size considering it was a "small". Lots of tender white pieces of chicken mixed with it, which is exactly what you want. Prices were reasonable. Glad I checked out this place and will definitely be back whenever I'm in the mood for some takeout. read more

We are new to Uptown and absolutely love this take-out restaurant! For a quick and satisfying dinner after a long day at work, this is the perfect pick. We used to live in the South Loop, which is right next to Chinatown; however, the Chinese food from Lee's Wok was much more palatable to us than some of the Chinese restaurants in Chinatown (perhaps we are a bit more accustomed to greasy Panda Express). In any case, I would recommend getting their dinner specials, which comes with an entree (e.g. orange chicken, broccoli beef, Mongolian beef, etc.), shrimp fried rice, AND a gigantic egg roll -- all for less than $9. I don't know why some reviewers had a bad customer service experience but my service was exceptional. On my way out the door I dropped my order, the lady offered to repack my order even though I said it was ok, after all, it was my fault. She put my food in a new container and bag and could not have been nicer. This was my first time here and I ordered the Thai Garlic Beef lunch special which was delicious and very reasonable. The portions are generous enough for 2 meals, the beef was very tender, the fried rice standard and a very good egg roll which I reheated in the toaster oven the next day. Thank God this is a take-out/delivery kinda place because it seems like somewhere you'd get food poisoning. First off, the stripmall restaurant had to be an old podiatrist or some type of doctors office due to the layout and large, framed hole-in-the-wall where a receptionist would call your number. Instead a short Chinawoman stands staring at you wondering when you'll order. The best part was hearing her scream your order to the Wok workers in Mandarin. I made a horrible choice and got the Peapod Chicken while my friend got my usual order of General Tso Chicken. I should have gotten my norm but ventured away. The Peapod Chicken was in this runny "gravy" that was the consistency of egg whites and semen. Completely nasty! When I was on the third bite, I thought of all these ideas of how to remove the liquid. After living in several developing countries, I sucked it up and was happy to have more than just rice to eat. I obviously had left overs and on the drive back to my place, the juice seeped through my plastic ware cover and got all over my buddy's car. I was afraid what his boyfriend was going to think if I couldn't clean up all my left-overs. :X Just a bad Chinese experience! Period. read more

I've gotten carryout from here a few times, and while the prices are great...you get what you pay for. I've found the Mongolian beef to be pretty consistently good, and the egg rolls are reliable, but some of other menu items are just drenched in a slimy, greyish-white sauce that makes the food intolerable. I'd stick with the spicier options overall. I've had worse food, but I've also had much better. I'll probably order from here again at some point, but I can definitely say I'd never do so given a better option. read more

Then I order Lee's Wok the next time I get Chinese. It's always reliable, quick, consistent, and the woman at the counter is sweet. Nothing beats the beef chow fun, but the sesame chicken, general Tao's chicken, and fried rice are all phenomenal as well. Generally, the way I tell if a Chinese Restaurant is really good is by trying their General Tso's chicken. So, I ordered the General Tso's chicken (spicy) and my partner ordered the Sesame chicken. After getting home, I was able to see the different through the plastic container by the sesame seeds on the sesame chicken. At least that was good. However, when i tasted my General Tso's chicken, it neither looked like the General Tso's I am used to (peppers and thick red sauce) nor was spicy. After my partner tried his, I noticed that they looked very similar with the exception of the sesame seeds. After trying his, they tasted almost the same. Really unfortunately. I've eaten their carryout about a dozen times. Some of their food has been decent, some has been bad. The decent: General Tso chicken (although not even comparable to the now closed China Kitchen), egg rolls, fried rice. The bad: The last few times the beef has been so tough it was inedible. When I bit into the first pot sticker, about 2 onces of greasy juice came out. Disgusting. I slit them to drain the grease, but it they were now just a pile of pot-sticker mush. Overall, their prices are fairly cheap, but the food isn't that good. Next time I want Chinese, I'll try elsewhere. read more

For Chinese delivery Lee's is top notch! The food is amazing, the meat and veggies are always fresh and the portions are large. I have never ordered from this place and not been 100% satisfied. My personal recommendation is the three kinds mushroom chicken...I don't know of anywhere else that offers a dish quite like it. Yum! Also, the eggrolls are always fried to the perfect mix of tender crispiness. Word to the wise, your food will arrive prior to the promised time. If they tell you it should arrive in 40 minutes...do NOT get in the shower thinking that you have plenty of time to spare. While the delivery guy is very nice, he is not exactly the type of guy one anticipates to open the door to soaking wet, in a bath towel. read more
