Stopped into Young's Chinese restaurant for the first time for lunch and it did not disappoint. It was only an hour into opening so it was quiet and plenty of space to eat inside. We were told there was no ice but that didn't bother us as the soda cans were cold. We ordered edamame, crab Rangoon, and Sweet and Sour chicken. Overall well worth the price and tasty. The sweet and sour wasn't overly sauced which is how I like it. Crab Rangoon had a slight sweetness but creamy and not too overly crab forward. Can't go wrong with edamame. Only wish they had lunch specials for weekends or accommodations to pay extra on weekends for the special. Also if they up charged for a side of fried rice instead of just steam rice would've been nice. But the menu does say no substitutions and I totally respect their rules - just would've been my preference. Totally worth checking out and will definitely be back to try more. read more

It's not every night - but every once in a while I get that craving. That craving for some good Chinese take out and a movie. This most DEFINITELY hit the spot. Me and my girlfriend split the Orange Chicken, Mongolian Beef, and the Chicken Fried Rice. We ended up making 3 full meals out of it. All of the food we got was delicious too. The food came in less than an hour when the Grubhub delivery estimated 2 hours. So we were happy to say the least. This may be my go-to Chinese delivery place in the city! read more

Placed an order online for delivery and got a text confirming my order. When I called to see if I could get it sooner if I picked it up they said yes. I gave them my name and asked them to check how long it would be. I was told 30 minutes. Arrived to find they had no record of my order and that the counter staff had not checked when I asked him to. My, and now my boyfriend's, go-to for delivery (I suggested this on our first let's-get-delivery night after we started dating, and he was v impressed). FRESH. The green beans are phenomenal - crisp, flavorful, not soaked in too much sauce. Everything on the menu has been fresh, with crunchy veggies and flavorful, tender meat. Fried stuff also on point. FAST. Delivery always shows up under the estimated time, like exactly 20 minutes (this has been the case the last three times we've ordered) and food is always piping hot. (We live about a mile away) SPICY. This is the only place I can think of whose eggplant, general tso's, sesame chicken, mapo tofu actually has a kick to it when they say there will be. My regular Chinese restaurant was closed on Christmas...How could that be? Ordered from Young's for the first time. It was very good. The Moo Shu pork and chicken were both filled with meat and the veggies were crisp, which I really like. So often they are mush. The Mongolian Beef was also really good - and not too fatty. Potstickers and egg drop soup rounded out our meal and both were nice. Price was reasonable. Delivery took over an hour but it was Christmas. GREAT food! It always tastes fresh and delivery is always on time, if not sooner. But the orange chicken sauce literally eats through the styrofoam bowl in less than the 15 minutes it takes to deliver the order. My go to was Mark's Chop Suey but the owner retired in 2014 and close the business. I tried many different Chinese restaurants but no one came close, then I discovered Young's and have been a loyal customer for 7 years. The food is always great, my favorites are Vegetable Egg Roll, Beef Fried Rice and Kung Pao Chicken. I also recommend their Egg Foo Young and Mongolian Chicken. The restaurant is always empty, I suspect most of their business comes from delivery. read more

You can't split a lunch special even though it's large enough and there isn't brown rice until five. OK we don't have a huge income and we get enough brown rice at home anyway. From the outside the restaurant always looks closed in the day time. It's open and it's a very pretty room. We were the only customers but at 2PM the lunch crowd probably already ordered take out or left. The food is excellent. We had home style tofu, governor chicken, hot and sour soup, egg drop soup, and chicken fried rice. Lunch was less than $20. read more

I would give this place a 3.5, but in all fairness the food is a solid 7-7.5. The first time I ordered over the phone (2 lunch specials with two different meals), but sadly walked away with one dinner meal (no side or drinks). I tried again online by ordering one lunch special and paid for two additional sides, and walked away with one container with a meal with the wrong rice, no side and no drink which are included in the lunch specials. Hadn't ordered Chinese in forever but was pretty hungry and thought it would be a nice change. Ordered the sesame chicken which was Chef's special, egg rolls, and steamed dumplings for delivery. The dumplings were good. Egg rolls were small and very dry. The broccoli that came with the sesame chicken was pale, limp, and scarce. The chicken itself was nothing special. One reviewer had mentioned not to order it mild but I wasn't given the option of choosing a spicy-ness level. It wasn't at all spicy. Quite bland. Were pretty hungry and now we're not. This is by far the best overall Chinese restaurant in the north side of Chicago some of the best Cantonese and mandarin food you can find in Chicago. Best dishes: Sesame Crispy Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork, BBQ ribs, Crab Rangoons, Egg Rolls, Mongolian Beef, BBQ pork Fried Rice.. All superb and worth checking out.. We lived in the neighborhood for 30 years and seems like we have always been going there. I don't know how they do it but the food always ranges from very good to excellent. NEVER had a bad meal from there. We love Mongolian beef and Singapore noodles but have had many dishes (we always get spicy). Recently moved to Jefferson Park and after trying out the local places we gave up and now make the 40 minute round trip to Youngs. It's worth it. read more

Ordered takeout through Yelp/Grubhub. Went to pick it up and the lights are off and the front door locked. Grubhub customer support insists they're open, but the door is locked and the restaurant is empty. Grubhub refunds but if you're going to take orders online you have to indicate when you're not open, out on vacation or whatever. I don't trust to go back to this place again. read more

This is the first Chinese restaurant that I found in Chicago that I actually like! We ordered a ton of food so I will go in order. The chicken fried rice was really good and comes with a lot of veggies in it so it feel fresh actually. The sesame chicken was decent, my only complaint being that the chicken pieces were a little soggy and not so crispy. I really enjoyed both the Mongolian beef and chicken lo mein. They had a ton of meat and also a ton of veggies which I love. Also, I ordered their wonton soup which was great. Excellent Chinese delivery. We've tried several places for delivery, and I think this is the best we've had so far. We had the curry chicken, garlic chicken and pork fried rice; the fried rice was the best I've had since moving to the midwest. My friend said that the egg rolls weren't very good and the hot & sour soup was okay, but we both loved the rice and garlic chicken. He said the curry chicken was good too, but after tasting my garlic chicken, thought that it was better than the curry. I think this will probably be our delivery place for now, until we decide we just HAVE to try another place. read more

Hooray! I have finally found a neighborhood Chinese delivery place. You have no idea how difficult this was. I'm really picky about the thickness of the cut of the meat in Chinese food. I don't know why - it's a weirdism of mine (don't judge, we all have them). Alas, Youngs fit the bill! Here's how it all went down...we were entertaining people from New York and we typically have an unspoken Chicago vs New York throw down about everything, so of course I figured the same would hold true for Chinese takeout. Here's just an example of a conversation from their last visit "how many ice rinks does Chicago have?" I pause while counting "We have 9 in New York." I then replied with "oh yeah, you ice skate?" To which the response was "no". Who the F cares then?!?!?! But I digress.... Our guests wanted boneless spare ribs, kung pao chicken, and vegetable lo mein. Young's doesn't have boneless ribs (deal with it) and they have a dish called kung bao, not kung pao but I am pretty sure they are the exact same thing (he seems cautiously nervous as I click order). I had the mongolian combo and we also ordered a beef and broccoli as well as pork and green beans. I enjoyed that the sauces were not overly greasy. The vegetables tasted fresh and crisp, not limp and overcooked. Good news, our guests raved about the food. Said it was a thousand times better than what they get in New York. Ha!!! That's one for Chicago! (Aren't in-laws annoying?!?!) Oh and by the way, kung pao and kung bao do appear to be the exact same thing like I thought! My only complaint was that my mongolian wasn't at all spicy - but next time, I will specify that I would like it spicy! read more

I LOVE YOUNG'S!! Graduated from LakeView H.S which is around the corner and every time I had off campus lunch and had enough money I would go there! This place has become my one and only place to go get Chinese food. The lady that works there is the owner she is always there and is super friendly! She always knows what my order will be and I will never stop going there. Every time I go there is usually no one dining in but they definitely get a lot of deliveries and pick ups. But I personally believe food served to you hot and ready to eat is the best :) I have taken so many friends and family there to eat and everyone always says its delicious! no lie! -I always order- Shrimp fried rice (big delicious shrimps with great ingredients not greasy like other places) Governors Chicken (which is there specialty and is delicious a little spicy crunchy and great sauce!) add on with bigger group of people egg rolls with sauce ( crunchy great ingredients) Mongolian beef (I personally don't eat it but my parents loved it when I took them there and that's what they always order) Wonton soup (dad ordered that and according to him it was delicious too) Orange chicken ( I personally like panda express orange chicken but this one is good too not great just good that's why I stick to my governors chicken) I took my whole family 8 in total and we spent around 40 dollars and it was definitely a lot of food everything I mentioned.
