Has some pretty great Thai food. It actually has a wider variety of Asian including Japanese. Yes Thai is an obvious name about the cuisine they have obviously. A great variety of noodles and more. The food is of course the main thing but the atmosphere and staff help lots for these. Coming in here the first time it was pretty welcoming actually. It's a lot nicer looking than it seemed at first. This actually looks like a little diner to be honest. Of course there's much more than the atmosphere. The food is of course the main star. It's about $15 for an entree. There's noodles and rice options. Hard to choose. I got the Pad Woon Sen. This is a classic with stir fried bean thread noodles, along with bean sprouts, carrots, and choice of protein, which was tofu. Also has eggs and fish sauce which I left off. She got the Yakisoba which is a Japanese style. Plenty of styles to choose. There's a lot more than just the basic Pad Thai and stuff. Go here to get authentic Thai if never having it before. I am so pleased I finally found and made it to Yes Thai, as they are not only BYOB, they have DUCK! I was so excited. You can add duck to just about any dish. I added it to Pad Thai, and it was delicious, earthy and gamy, and paired beautifully with the noodles, sauce and vegetables. We also shared a few appetizers to start; they too are delicious. The shrimp rolls are like crispy little cones, and the pot stickers are deliciously ethereal. The inside is an elegant, clean, well-lighted space, perfect for a relaxing BYOB dinner. This placed is so over hyped up with Thai food. However we stopped by to order some appetizers thinking that the egg rolls will be normal size. Not the case, the egg rolls were thinner then my index finger and smaller than my pinky ring, never have I been to a place with egg rolls that small. To kick it off, the customer service was rude to us because we took our appetizer to go. Who knows if we would've had good customer service if we had dine-in. Will not be going here again. We started with edamame, cucumber-seaweed salads, fried tofu, and chicken satay, all full of flavor and generous portions. Crispy noodles in the Panang Curry is the bomb! Somehow the noodles stay crispy to the bottom of the bowl. The Pad Ki Mao was delicious, one of my wife's favorite Thai dishes. We've been wanting a new Thai restaurant to try out and we were not disappointed with Yes Thai. It seemed like they were busy with a steady stream of to-go orders but we didn't wait long for our food. We started out with the shrimp shu mai which we had steamed, they also offer them fried. We found street parking not too far away. The only minor complaint was the restaurant was a little cold. Not a big deal really considering the food quality. Service was excellent. I'm so frustrated with this place. Been coming here for almost a decade quite regularly and while the food can be very good, the prices and the service just aren't there consistently. And generally I have to wait for quite a long time past the quoted time when I pick my food up I ordered a noodle dish and asked for vegetables and they asked me which vegetables and then charge me for each vegetable as an up charge. I also did that with their basil chicken dish, which is fantastic, but I asked them to add vegetables and he charged me five dollars on three separate charges. So eight dollars and vegetable extras that were not told to me or else I would've said absolutely not. Their chicken satay is extremely expensive at over $10. It's been 10 years since I wrote a review of Yes Thai. During these years my wife and I have tried a great deal of what appears on their menu and literally everything is excellent. I should add that we like their food so much that we drive all the way from Evanston to dine here. We almost always start with an order of shumais, which are shrimp dumplings. We like them fried, although you can order them steamed. We hold the Yes Thai shumais as the gold standard. As we have traveled all over the U.S., we invariably try shumais at a variety of Thai restaurants, but we have only once encountered some that were equal to those at Yes Thai. This is somewhat embarrassing, but I will admit it: In the beginning, I ordered the Basil Chicken almost every time for something like 4 or 5 years. And then one day I had had enough and began surfing the menu and continue to do so. Although I like so many dishes on the menu, I will make this recommendation: Prik King with crispy catfish and either white of brown rice. The restaurant does a lot of take out and delivery orders, but the dining room is unpredictable. There are times, when there are hardly any diners and other times it's packed. And there is no discernible explanation. Frankly, I can't figure out why it's not always packed. Actually, in that last ten years there has only been one occasion that we arrived without having made a reservation and found that there wasn't a single table available. We strolled around the neighborhood for 20 minutes or so and returned to a waiting table. Service is generally excellent. Those times when it gets really busy don't bother us as we bring a bottle of wine (it's BYOB) and are in no rush to leave. In any case the food usually arrives quickly. CHU CHEE CATFISH is perfectly cooked that is moist and tender. A decent leftover. I love the big bowl of rice. If you like brown rice, get it...it looked yummy. Unfortunately, I prefer the addictive Chu Chee from Taste of Thai Town. THAI ICED TEA has 2 prices determined by with or without ice. :-) I like that it's not so sweet. MANGO MOUSSE is the usual dessert that is sometimes available. VENUE is superbly clean, organize and teensy weensy. You are SOL for seats if someone brings in a 6-pack beer. BYOB Okay, figured I had to update after such a good meal experience a few weeks ago. All food was hot and tasty this time and quite delicious. We started with Veggie Egg Rolls - yum I dug into the Sweet and Sour Rice with ground pork, despite the heat warning on the menu it was a mild spice. She went for the Drunken Noodles with Tofu again despite the warning it was quite a pleasant heat. Service was great. The prices here are a little higher than one would expect for standard neighborhood Thai fare; your one or two extra dollars per item are undoubtedly subsidizing the swank-ish interior makeover and the bewilderingly high-concept website. With three comparable Thai joints about equidistant from my Ravenswood love-nest, I'm most likely to give my takeout business to the one with the least hassle. Yes Thai that isn't. That being said...the food here is more than worthwhile. The pad thai needs more peanuts but otherwise is very, very good. The superstar among everything that I've tasted is the tom yum soup. Their version is slightly darker in color than I've seen before, and features a slight sweetness which offsets the heat very nicely. They don't skimp on the shrimp or the mushrooms either. Food quality excellent, service good, all your thai faves are here, you'll leave happy, yadda x3. what sets this apart for me so far is the decor and terrace dining. It's a stylish room with nice color scheme, unusual furnishings and a few cute thai tchotchkeys sprinkled about. The food arrives in oversized bowls and plates. If dining indoors get a window seat. The afternoon and early evening light makes the food look spectacular. It'll probably help your date too lol. Um not that she needs any help. Well mine didn't ;) Out on the terrace the view facing the tree canopy by Amundsen H.S. and Winnemac park (south) is nicer. There's some fairly interesting pedestrian bustle but it's not too much of a distraction. I had a green curry there last night. Waitress asked if I wanted it spicy and I said "yes but don't kill me." Then I changed it to "actually go ahead and kill me." Somehow the kitchen balanced it perfectly which is impressive since spiciness is totally subjective. But they nailed it. I asked for a second serving of rice which let me enjoy all the curry sauce and left me feeling sated. I usually get a noodle dish and the portion size is just right. chick satay: fine shu mai: fine lard nar: my kids always get this, yawn, fine fine fine cuke salad: fine So I love it but I haven't yet discovered anything coming out of their kitchen that is unique. Ultimately it just reminds me of how spoiled and lucky we are in Chicago to have so many excellent Thai restos.
