I found a hotel deal in the area and Thai Spoon caught my attention with their window menu and reasonable price range and their cute decor. I came back the next day for a late lunch . I think I was the only customer in the restaurant at the time. The server was really nice and kept my water filled when I was thirsty from walking around all day. I was happy to see khao soi on the menu. I had been mixing it up with khao poun which is a different dish and doesn't have fried noodles. I like both. I was hungry and tucked in to soft noodles, crispy noodles, pickled mustard greens, onions, and in this case tofu. The server noticed my enthusiasm and said it would make him happy. We have ordered in for delivery several times now. Today we actually dined in for lunch. I'm so glad we did! They have a lunch special-- I didn't know! It's a few dollars less than the normal menu but a pretty good deal. My daughter and I ordered the pad see ew lunch, a regular Kara age chicken appetizer, and a taro boba. They also gave us a miso soup and two veggie egg rolls, unsure if that's part of the lunch special or not or standard for all done in customers, but it was a great addition! I liked this place so much I ate there twice on my last trip to Chicago. My favorite dish, by far, was the Vegan Futo Maki, which was almost too beautiful to eat. The spicy basil fried rice had slices of fresh jalapeño. The green curry was more on the soup/liquid side as far as curry goes. We didn't ask for spicy and we should have. Papaya Salad: mediocre papaya salad. The portion is a bit small, but really appreciate that they use fresh shrimps instead of dried shrimps. It is not spicy enough and not greatly marinated. I absolutely love Thai food, and this place did not disappoint. I came here with a friend who lives and Chicago and said this is one of her favorite Thai spots. We came here around 2 for lunch on a Monday and there was plenty of seating available. Overall the food was decent and I am leaning towards more between a 3.5 and a 4... however in agreeing with other reviews, this seems to be very Americanized Thai experience versus other places I've been. I ordered: Pad Thai with chicken Red Curry with Vegetable And STEAM TOFU side The pad Thai did not have any spice at all to it, or really the Thai flavors I was craving. The steamed tofu probably is better to be ordered while visiting the restaurant, and not through take out. My daughter enjoyed her rainbow roll and my other daughter had the teriyaki grilled chicken. Ordered a takeout order last night with Panag Curry, Red Curry, jasmine rice, and a lychee and mango smoothie. When opened, the panag and red curry looked pretty identical so we had to mix a spoon into the ingredients to see which one was which. It came with two crispy egg rolls and miso soup that was full of tender tofu. Everything was delicious. After the soup and egg rolls, I did not have much room for the noodles. So, that made a nice leftover dinner. The Thai art on the walls is interesting. Despite being isolated, but for the occasional patron who came to pickup their order, the service was quite lacking.
