Spacious place. Service was very good. Staff around and available. Sushi was excellent - highly recommend. Spicy edamame and potstickers were delicious. Ramen was good- not great

Ordering delivery via Grub Hub guarantees on time fresh deliciousness like my faves: age dashi, chef's specialties, gomae, shrimp tempura with curry sauce and rice. Sides of salad and miso soup rounds out a full meal.

South loop mediocrity strikes yet again. I was desperate & I deeply regret it. After spending $60 I was infuriated. One of the rolls was disgusting, the truffle one. No shrimp detected in the shrimp roll. This is exactly why I'd gladly drive an hour to the north side in rush hours. Let me be frank, this is some of the worst sushi I've ever had. Reminiscent of gas station sushi.

So yummy! My friend and I went here on a weekday around 6 pm, no rezzy required, and were able to easily walk in. Service was fast as well. The inside was cozy with ample seating. The sushi was delicious and definitely hit the spot! Would recommend.

There's plenty of seating, and wasn't too crowded when we went. The portions are generous and the kaisen don was good for the both of us with some appetizers it came with a generous amount of fish and also had pickled radish, ginger, mushrooms, and pickled cucumbers. It's at a decent price point, and the yakitori comes with 2 pieces which was nice. Their agedashi tofu was nice and soft with a gentle dashi broth. The wait staff was kind, and it was a nice place to have lunch

Service very attentive and quick. Food also very good. Everything combined with the friendly staff makes this a 5 star restaurant.

Busy place but they keep it moving. Efficient service. Yummy sweet plum wine. Tasty dumplings. Flavorful curry udon. Excellent sushi rolls! Those were the star. Colorful decor, murals, and movie posters. Laid back vibes. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Was craving something warm and soupy and thankfully this was around the corner from our Airbnb. We ordered beef tongue skewers and the curry udon. First set of skewers were good but second set was ungodly salty. Udon was a little too light for my liking but it satisfied my craving for the time being. Servers were quick and friendly. Cute and cozy spot for some Japanese food.

My family loves going to Umai; however, I'm usually busy when they go, so I finally got to go with them. The food was amazing! I'm usually skeptical of going to sushi places, outside of AYCE, but I got their katsu don and it was delicious! It had crispy pork, egg, mushroom, and tons of flavor. We also got individual nigiri pieces, and they were so fresh. My katsu don came with miso soup and a salad as well; both tasted very fresh. The service was very good. They always checked up on us and made sure our drinks were filled. The ambiance was very clean and looked fancy. I love how you can see the chefs prepare the sushi as well!

A great spot if you're looking for nice quality sushi and really fast and attentive service. I got the Chicago roll and the the Umai crunch roll. I slightly preferred the umai crunch roll. The eel sauce really set it off. Next time, I wouldn't get two rolls that both have the crunchy topping.

Cute patio, but definitely at the corner of a bustling (sometimes rowdy) intersection. Our service was good and they never rushed us after we finished our meal, which I appreciate! Overall, Umai's food was average. But I think it's still a good option if you're in the south loop and looking for reliable Japanese food! Hyunjin approves. - AD

My family and I were in the area and saw great reviews about this place and decided to eat here. It was confusing to find at first because there was no sign above their restaurant, but our gps said we were in the right location. Anyways, we were immediately greeted and seated. The restaurant is a decent size, with modern decor. Our waiters were very nice, attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu. All of us ordered different things to share and everything tasted great, leaving us happy and full. Would definitely return whenever visiting Chicago.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated, the atmosphere is fun, and the cocktails are solid. I had the espresso martini and the 100 Year Old Cigar. Both were good, although I think Gilt Bar's sister restaurants have the stronger cocktail game. My Tinder matches: Onion Rings: Immediate super-like. Gorgeous, exciting, and I'd absolutely swipe right again. French Fries: Matched, chatted for a bit, then realized there was no chemistry. Unmatched. We went on a casual date, I had a couple bites, and I'm open to seeing where things go. But honestly, our waitress was the real reason this went so well. She was personable, attentive, and somehow managed to make the whole experience feel effortless. When one of us mentioned not eating dairy, she even brought us a free gelato. Overall: Would swipe right. Would exchange numbers. Would see again. Definitely recommend.

That is to say: I am not throwing words of praise like "one of a kind" and "phenomenal" around lightly. Both are different and still amazing. Sparrow has a vibe straight out of the 1920s. The decor, signage, use of color, and absence of screens or TV's all contribute to the theme. The music is also appropriate and plays at the perfect volume to be pleasant without forcing one to raise their voice. I tried the Green Daisy and a House Old Fashioned. The Green Daisy was boozy and had some herbaceous notes. A little tartness and a little sweetness helped balance the drink out and make for a phenomenal sipper. I loved the creativity with this one! The House Old Fashioned was also well done, assembled with quality ingredients in balance with one another. Nothing wrong with a well-executed classic. The prices are more or less reasonable considering the location and overall market, with bevies costing around $16. The bar staff is excellent! Very friendly and welcoming! Final verdict: A spot where I can say come for the drinks and stay for the vibe. It's the kind of place where walking in you are transported a century into the past. Everything about the experience, including the atmosphere, drinks, service, and prices, is calling me to return and bring some people with me.
