Long time fan of this place going back to earlier days of Sushi Wabi across the street. Part of ownership/management opened this across the street after Wabi closed and it was equally as good. Always my go-to. I hadn't been for a couple months and this last visit left me disappointed. We had a Hot Daisy roll which was bland and with the texture / taste of canned tuna. The Ecaudor roll was better and the spicy tuna was ok. But all the rolls were lose and crumbled apart like they were made by someone who had never made a role before. The rolls at Mariano's are better made! Maybe Monday nights are not good for food quality and prep...but this was a disappointing meal for $180. And I don't like restaurants who start the tip buttons on their POS at 22%. I shouldn't feel like I'm leaving a sh*tty tip when I tip $30 on a $150 bill. read more

We decided to try a new spot while downtown last week. We've heard many good reviews for Sushi w and decided to give it a shot. We got: Tuna nigiri: 6.5/10 it was fine for the price I was expecting a much fattier tuna. Kaarage: 7.5/10 loved the salt and guchuyang but I wish it was boneless. Okinomiyaki: 6.5/10 would have been better if all the pieces had the sauce. Dragon roll: 6/10 very basic almost like grocery sushi roll Blue crab roll: 6.5/10 it was fine wish there was more portion wise Fuji fu: 7.5/10 it was good but he gave us forks which made it very difficult to eat. The service was fast and everyone was nice. The restaurant is small and good for couples since they have a lot of seating for 2. It is pretty dark and romantic but very noisy. read more

We sat at the downstairs bar as it was a super busy Saturday night- it was so loud there were times I couldn't hear the person next to me. If you're looking for some great nigiri combinations, Sushi Dokku is the place for you! Recently came back for their restaurant week menu, and it was great! I chose the Deviled Eggs, Tuna Truffle nigiri, Hamachi nigiri, Sake nigiri, Crispy Maguro roll, and mochi (we tried all the flavors - espresso, salted caramel, passion fruit, and strawberry). Every bite was amazing - but beware, the Crispy Maguro definitely packs on the heat. I also recommend the Snow Maiden sake if you like a sweeter sake. We dined in the Booze Box section and it was super vibey, but not too loud where we had to yell over the music or anything. The servers were attentive, will definitely keep going back (especially for Restaurant Week)! read more

We didn't have a reservation so we sat at the bar which was a wonderful experience because we got to see the chefs cook. Everything we ordered was yummy. I really enjoyed the broth for the udon. Horrible service! It was a nice day outside so we sat on their patio which was very well done. However it took over 45 minutes for 2 rolls to come out when they weren't even that busy! The tables all around us got multiple rounds of drinks and food and our server never once came to check on us. Instead of saying she will find our order, she had the nerve to ask us if we wanted to order more!! The manager came out and barely apologized. Horrible service. The food when it did come out was OK, barely any fish on the rolls for the price they were charging. 5 dollars per oyster for a tiny oyster plus they charge you extra for soy sauce on the oyster! Very good potstickers for app. Some rolls were better than others. You need the matcha cheesecake for dessert but can skip the tempura ice cream. I don't know how they get the brownie crust to be warm for the cheesecake but they do. It's the perfect thickness and texture and paired with the smooth, cool and dreamy matcha cheesecake. Walked in and got seated right away. Sitting at the bar was a good move as you can see the chef preparing the sushi. The ambiance inside is nice and cozy and when you come around 4pm on a regular weekday there's not a lot of people. The sushi we had was great. We requested handrolls and they really made us handroll which was absolutely amazing. The truffle hamachi hand-roll was by far my favorite it was fresh and nice and crispy. The next one we had was seared salmon and albacore which was so good. The fill the hand-roll to the brim. The Ecuador was really fresh and filled with flavors. We also got their Chefs dressed scallops nigiri which was so good and just melted in your mouth. You must get the dessert which we got the green tea ice cream with the Fuji Fu apple cake and it was really good. Reminded me of the Trivoli Tavern date cake. Came here for a friend's bday last night and we had a great time!! We made a reservation ahead of time, but there's plenty of seating upstairs, downstairs, and outdoors when the weather is nice. We sat downstairs and there's a really cool vibe to the bar and sushi area. We got a couple drinks, a couple rolls, and our friend got a steak. For rolls, we got the Gorilla, the Ecuador, and one of the tempura rolls (don't remember which one lol). All were really delicious, especially the Ecuador. Our friend who got the steak really enjoyed it as well. I also got a Rose and my friend got an extra dirty martini which she enjoyed. I was so impressed by the vegetarian options; in fact, they give you a whole menu with the vegetarian rolls where they've customized some rolls from the normal menu to make them vegetarian friendly. The seaweed salad was so different from the average and it was amazing. I would give this place a 5, but I didn't love that when you ask them to swap one veggie for another (say asparagus for mushroom), they add an additional charge and don't tell you about it beforehand when you ask. I opted in for the $45 restaurant week dinner. The cucumber tofu salad to start was refreshing. I also ordered oyster shooters and this were great, had a sesame flavor which I loved. Wow wow wow best customer service ever!!!! I've been to sushi dokku a few times now, but my most recent experience was the best customer service I've ever received! We went during restaurant week, so it was packed in there. Our server was super busy & forgot to bring over a few things we asked for which was no big deal. I asked the host instead & he was very apologetic and quick to bring us what we needed. Next, they were out of the entree I wanted from the restaurant week menu & were VERY accommodating to bring me something else that wasn't on the restaurant week menu. Last, the host asked us to get up from our table shortly after paying because other people were waiting to be sat (totally understandable, we were happy to get up). To make up for it, the host offered to buy us a round of drinks downstairs in booze box which was just soooo nice and not necessary at all because we really didn't mind getting up from our table. I was recommended to try the Staycation cocktail by the hostess and i originally thought she suggested it because it's the most expensive drink on the menu, but it was actually really strong and delicious. I was torn on what roll to get (I almost wish they had more options, even though there's already a decent selection) and settled on the crispy maguro roll. It was fresh, spicy, and more flavorful than it looks. I think I would order it again. The ambiance was very relaxing, quiet, and the servers were attentive. The Doctor, The Queen and my two BFFs came here for Restaurant Week 2024. First let me say that you need to make a reservation to come here as it is not a large venue, mostly 2- and 4-top tables with seating at a bar in front of the kitchen. There is a booth seating in the window, which is where we sat. I am guessing you could get six people in there, but it would be tight. The reason I chose this place was based on the recommendation of The Queen as she is all things Asian cuisine. She had mentioned that this was one of the places she liked to go to for sushi, ramen and mochi in one place. She also mentioned that it was more expensive than some of the places she frequents, but that the sushi was excellent. So let me start off by saying that I messed up badly on the ordering of items. I assumed that half a maki roll from the Restaurant Week menu wouldn't be enough food, so I ordered two additional rolls and gyoza. Way too much food, but we ate good! The 1st Course was a Seared Scallop with Apple Plum Puree & Shredded Radish. Normally this is a $7 bite on the regular menu, so this was good value for me. This was a lovely bite and I wanted to order another one but so glad I did not due to all the food that came out. I would order this again as a bite. 2nd Course was Nigiri Bites. Ladies and Gents, this was my first time ever doing Nigiri and boy was I surprised at how good it was! Again due to this being Restaurant Week, this was another good value for price as you got to chose three pieces. Normally they are two to an order...maybe they are bigger when off the main menu, will have to ask The Queen. I got the following: Hamachi (Yellowtail, Grapefruit, Black Lava Salt, Green Onion), Sake (Salmon, Ginger Soy, Fried Ginger Strings, Chives) and Tuna Truffle (Truffle Sauce, Parmigiano Reggiano. Avocado). All three of these were amazing but baby that Tuna Truffle was lifegiving! Again I would go back just to get this! Talk about something so small being so powerful in its blend of flavors; I highly recommend this. 3rd Course was the half maki and I got the Godzilla (Shrimp Tempura, Avocado, Cream Cheese, Tempura Crumbs, Smelt Roe, Wasabi Mayo, Eel Sauce & Sriracha) In addition we also got the Seared Salmon & Albacore and the Spicy Maki. All three of these were excellent and fresh in taste. 4th Course was Kohitsuji or Lamb Chops, but it was really a Lamb Chop with Kizami Wasabi Butter, Green Onion, and Togarashi. Because it was Restaurant Week, I was not surp. My BFFs did not order off of the Restaurant Week menu and were going to order Gyu Negima (strip steak and green onions) but our server recommended the petit filet mignon because it would be more meat. It came with mashed potatoes and both were tasty. At $30 I guess that the size of meat was on par with the cost of what you would get if you ordered a 6 oz or 8 oz filet from a steakhouse. 5th course was Mochi (Japanese Rice Cakes Filled With Ice Cream). The Queen & I got strawberry ice cream ones, but I gave her mine. I am not a fan of mochi, the texture just doesn't work for me. But what did was that Fuji Fu (apple cake, peanuts & caramel sauce) off of the regular menu with green tea ice cream. That was really good. The Queen and the BFFs were big fans of the cocktails and I was happy to see that they had bubbles on the wine list, so everyone was good to go as far as drinks go. Our server was very nice...she brought out these cute compressed towels that you drop in a wooden vessel with water to allow them to expand, so we could wash our hands. For the most part, she was very good but as it got crowded, it did take a some time to bring over the check for us. But that is not a deal breaker for me. I definitely could see myself coming back here to try some of the other rolls, but to definitely get the tuna truffle one....that was divine. Yeah it is pricey but filling, so you won't leave hungry. read more

The quality of the fish is excellent and the freshness is apparent. Both times I tried a variety of rolls and nigiri.
