Came from Fort Lauderdale (home to Mai Kai, which inspired several of the drinks on the menu) so we had high hopes--we were not disappointed. Somehow the atmosphere and ambience is sexy, but festive at the same time. The drinks were delicious and I love that they had indicators for how strong each drink was. Our server was very friendly and personable and was very understanding when we let her know we had dinner reservations shortly after our arrival. Highly recommend!
I was visiting friends in Chicago, and I absolutely loved this bar! This was such a fun, cute, speakeasy style tiki bar and the drinks did not disappoint! We had a reservation and came on a weeknight. We split the hippo drink, which is one that is meant to be shared, between 3 of us. It was tart and fruity and the dry ice was a fun touch! The presentation was truly a 15 out of 10. I would definitely recommend this spot for a fun night out in Downtown Chicago!
Beautifully designed space and amazing drinks Reservations will be needed, be sure to plan this spot! We had a bit of difficulty at first finding this place which is part of the fun, but make your way down an alley and you'll find your new favorite tiki bar! We were seated promptly and with an Arrival time around 330 it was low lighting, chill ambiance music and everyone enjoying good conversation. Honestly great start! The server was knowledgeable and attentive, our drinks came quickly after our appetizer did The ceviche was fresh and we ate every bit of it, would have ordered more had we not had dinner plans! Drinks were certainly tasty and well balanced, always what you want from a tiki bar My only gripe was they seemed to keep increasing the music volume and allowed for more standing room which wasn't the vibe we were looking for, but that just might be what they convert to closer to dinner time. Perhaps would be better in the later hours as people still were trying to simply connect with eachother on a speaking level but that's just my perception. Overall wonderful spot, we will return when we want to bring friends from out of town to experience three dots and a dash!
I heard about this speakeasy Tiki bar on social media. I was very eager to come & decided to stop by. It was a little challenging to find, and I had to ask a random security guard nearby to ask where it was located. The bar is accessible from the alley. When I arrived, I stood by the host desk for easily 5 minutes as the hostess walked back & forth without acknowledging me. She eventually addressed me to say that I could head on in and that it was standing room available. I went to the bar and it was completely full. I stood by and checked out the drinks menu. Once I was ready, the bartender also ignored me. It took for the seated patrons at the bar to call the bartender's attention and order on my behalf. They added my drink to their tab which was super sweet. I enjoyed my drink and people watched & enjoyed the music. Unfortunately a seat did not become available so I eventually left. Under different circumstances, I would've enjoyed the bar because tropical drinks and Tiki bars are my vibe. This wasn't the greatest experience though.

We were able to walk-in on a Friday evening, although we were relegated to standing room only since we weren't able to get a reservation. Upon entering the bar, I felt like I was entering a catacomb with skulls lining the entrance. The bar was packed, and we squeezed in at the bar to order our drinks. The drinks were on the pricey side, but I appreciate how the cocktails are garnished with real fruit (mine had lychee and dragonfruit) and was served in a fun tiki glass that was unique to each drink. The setting is a huge part of the experience, and I had a fun, memorable evening.
When my friend let us to the alley for the entrance I was unsure but he was right. Not your ordinary entrance but the tiki torches helped me know we were in the right spot. We were lucky to get a table or else it's just standing area and the floors by the bar are sticky. On the menu you have options and the glassware you see is what you get, it's pretty cool. It was busy for a Sunday night and so it took a while to close out. They do have food options and we grabbed a few and they were good. Too good that we didn't get any pictures everyone went in and it didn't last long. We shared three appetizers between four people. It's a cool spot. They have one drink that you're only allowed to order once. Check it out!
This place is a yes, yes, and yes! I have a buddy that loves Tiki bars and found this place/made a reservation, so our group came to visit on a Sunday night. The vibe is speakeasy-ish; the entrance is off the street in an alleyway but the interior is very nice, low light, and would be fun for a date night! The staff were attentive and very friendly. My friend got some shots, which were surprisingly good given they were kind of sweet, and I ordered the "mystic lamp" cocktail ($16) which was VERY memorable to me as someone that loves floral drinks -- it was very floral, slightly fruity, and had a lovely chunk of lychee it came with which was delicious! The drink was decent sized too; I've been charged a lot more for much less drink at other speakeasies (those of which I don't plan to visit again any time soon haha). In my opinion, this spot has the perfect combo of great drinks, nice ambiance, cool speakeasy-vibes, but also cheerfulness given the tiki-theme inside. Would definitely rec a visit to anyone visiting Chicago who likes cool bars!

Haven't been to this place since 2018 and I couldn't wait to get back. Reservations required in their $10 each person, but it does get credited to your bill. It's got a great Tiki vibe and the staff is super knowledgeable about the craft libations and menu items. It is definitely relaxed. They do not rush you. And the aesthetic is clean and inviting. The crab dip had lumps of crab meat. With wonton chips. The beef kebabs were so marinated, flavored delicious and tender and everything came with an accompanying dip. The surprise was the flaming banana split ice cream! Didn't expect that with real pineapple. They also have a pretty pricey gift shop that sells their beverage mugs of all different shapes and sizes. The crowd seemed pretty happy to be there as well.

Three Dots and a Dash is a really cool tiki bar with unique and flashy drink options. Drinks were served pretty fast considering it was a Friday night that was fairly packed (maybe waited 3 minutes for a drink once my friend ordered) . My friend said he thoroughly enjoyed his drink and loved the combination in the Royal Hawaiian mocktail! Will definitely come back and try something next time with friends when the night is right. Not really disability friendly from what I had been seen or shown (there was only a staircase to enter in and out of) with little seating around if you don't have a reserved table (which was fair for a Friday night on a whim, not a complaint whatsoever). I could be wrong but I didn't see an elevator, and had a bit of a difficult time navigating the space with just myself and a small bag.
This speakeasy is such a cool spot to impress a date or a friend on a night out! I loved all the tiki themed drinks and the moody ambiance transports you to a tropical island. I had the aloha felicia which was sweet, velvety, and refreshing for summer. My second round was the Saturn which was lighter and fruity - another solid choice! I love that all the drinks come in awesome mugs and you can even purchase the mugs for an extra charge. Service was super friendly and helfpul with suggestions.
We came here as a part of 4 on a Friday night. It was PACKED. We thankfully had reservations which to me is a must, but they will accommodate you at the bar without them. The drinks were so good! They were good size and simply delicious. Well balanced. Not too sweet and not artificially sweet. It's clear those making them knew how to make real cocktails. The ambiance is true tiki. It is large but there were people surrounding our table because it was close to the bar. If you make a reservation and pay a deposit, make sure to make your server aware. The quickly made adjustments for us, but this was an issue in ensuring we got our credit. I would recommend getting a reservation in their smaller internal bar for a more intimate experience and more commonly crafted drinks. I would definitely come back but likely on a weeknight or earlier in the day.
Super fun bar to grab yummy cocktail drinks! The service was fantastic, everyone was friendly, and the dark, fun atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for post-dinner drinks! Definitely a fun date night spot or place to bring friends visiting!
This was another fortunate find randomly while walking around downtown Chicago. Seems to be a super popular place based on the number of reviews this place has. It was hard to find, but we discovered the entrance is in a back alley and bar is located downstairs. We loved the Tikki Bar theme. Drinks were good but a little watered down which was disappointing. We stop here every time we visit Chicago. If you love tiki cocktails, this is the place to go! Can't recommend enough. It's a speakeasy, so it feels like a hidden escape from reality. We've been to many tiki bars in the US and this is by far the best! Love that you can now buy a mug (with a cocktail) for cheaper than the shop... It's a great deal to get a mug this way! The only slight disappointment was the updated food menu.. loved the Spicy Thai Chicken, Veggie rolls, and coconut shrimp in years past.. sad to see them go. read more

Oh what fun it is to go to a basement bar thru an alleyway and it end up being the sickest vibe ever. I mean I just love any tiki bar but this one was really cool inside. I was already blasted and could not tell you what drinks I tried but the cups were fun. I do remember the thai curry crab rangoon dip tho that was insanely good. read more
My boyfriend wanted a speakeasy vibe to finish the night out in Chicago, so we headed on over to Three Dots and a Dash! The space is accessible via a "sort of" hidden alley entrance! Once you enter, you are quickly transported to the vibey, island oasis that is promised. There weren't any reservations or tables available, but we stopped into the bar and got lucky with a pair of seats. Our bartender was very social and friendly, even while constantly making drinks for the crowded bar area! We ordered a Mai Tai and a Strawberry Junglebird. Both we are excellent drinks, spirit-forward, and partnered well with theme of the space. Our only qualm was that the Junglebird didn't come dressed up at all...as almost all the drinks on the menu come in specific, themed glassware that adds to ambiance and effect of the experience...but that drink just came in a boring glass cup! Still tasted great, though! We will definitely be back to try more of the elaborate concoctions on this menu! read more

I came across Three Dots and a Dash by following a treasure map I discovered inside a bottle that washed ashore after my ship sank somewhere near the Great Lakes. The map led me down a discreet alley in Chicago, through a hidden entrance, and into what appeared to be a pirate's tropical fever dream. Reservations are highly recommended, especially if you want to visit the exclusive Bamboo Room, the intimate rum bar tucked inside the main bar. It focuses on rare rums and carefully crafted drinks, so book ahead if you want the full treasure. The main bar is heavily themed, with excellent tiki décor, dark corners, island music, skulls, colorful lighting, and the sort of atmosphere that makes you wonder whether you've entered a cocktail lounge or been captured by a particularly stylish pirate crew. The tiki theme is taken seriously, and the vibes are absolutely perfect. We sat at the bar and only ordered drinks, although food is available. The cocktails were beautifully crafted, delicious, and presented in a way that practically begs to be photographed. The bartenders were knowledgeable, entertaining, and a great deal of fun. Three Dots is also known for its extensive rum program, featuring more than 300 rums and rhum agricoles. We visited during the Christmas season and spent about two hours enjoying the holiday-themed drinks. They were festive, creative, and strong enough to make me briefly believe my shipwreck had been part of an elaborate Christmas pageant. Thankfully, the regular menu was available as well, so there was plenty of treasure to explore. Do not miss the gift shop. They have excellent merchandise, including limited-edition tiki mugs and apparel. We purchased a tiki mug, a shirt, and a beanie, which I now proudly wear while scavenging the island and searching for the rest of the treasure marked on my map. Three Dots and a Dash is one of the most memorable tiki bars I've visited. The drinks are excellent, the atmosphere is immersive, the staff are wonderful, and the entire experience feels like discovering a secret tropical kingdom beneath the streets of Chicago. Just be careful when leaving. The treasure map may lead you back to the bar--and after a few drinks, you may decide that's exactly where you belong. read more
Awesome space with fun tiki decor. Our group of six was quickly seated at our reservation time. Drinks came out quick and were delicious. One drink was a non-alcoholic that was equally good. We didn't eat this time, bit I've hosted business groups here and really enjoyed the food. read more
Came through on a weeknight for some quick apps and drinks. This is definitely a tiki bar vibe, dark, fun, and can be easy to forget the weather outside (especially if it's cold). It's a hidden speakeasy in an alley, giving the underground vibes. All drinks are tiki drink types. Coconut or fruity elixirs riddle the menu. You can get wine, champaign, or other cocktails if you ask. They aren't advertised though. I ordered the Aloha Felicia with Rum, coconut, pineapple, and lime. It was absolutely tropical and came in this gorgeous metal tiki cup. It was a short cup but wide, so it was a nice amount of drink. The menu also tells you how strong they are, as well. They don't really offer dinners, rather many types of appetizers. We ordered the loaded fries and the crab Rangoon dip. The loaded fries had a Teriyaki, Asian flavor and was quite filling and served beautifully. The crab Rangoon dip was also addictive. The crispy won tons were not greasy and it had another Asian style sauce to accompany the dip, that was a nice compliment to the flavor. Amazing tiki bar in Chicago that's off the main streets and needs a reservation but the hit of the weekend. The drinks were amazing both in visuals and in taste. The bar allows for groups as well as pairs at the bar. Three Dots and A Dash is all theme whether it be the menu, drinks, and apps. We had so much fun it was an amazing experience. The staff was very nice and attentive. They do have a time allowance, but they were incredibly nice to us about our time in the bar. read more
The absolute best loaded fries I've ever had in my life. The layers of flavor were so incredible that I still can't stop talking about them. I have no idea what they did, but it was next-level delicious. The steak skewers were pure perfection--tender, buttery, and practically melted in your mouth. Paired with a chimichurri sauce that complemented every bite, they were unforgettable. The cocktails were equally impressive. I had a passionfruit and rum creation that was dangerously good and far too easy to drink. Despite not having reservations, the hostess found us a cozy booth after only about a 10-minute wait. Entering through the alley added a fun sense of mystery and charm. House music drifted through the space, creating an energetic atmosphere. It's definitely lively--sometimes loud enough that conversations require a raised voice--but the vibrant vibe, incredible food, and outstanding drinks make it more than worth it. read more
While visiting Chicago some friends and I were looking for a lounge and saw this spot. Unfortunately I was not impressed, the ambiance is so dark that you can not even read the menu. Food was not good and drinks were just ok. Nothing exciting about this spot. Customer service was mediocre just like their food and drinks. read more
When visiting Chicago this is one of the top places I had wanted to try. I'd heard about it for multiple sources on multiple occasions and knew it was one of my top priorities to visit while there. Of the first challenge of this place is finding it. I'm glad I read some reviews to talked about going down the alley and looking for lights because the GPS took me to the front of the building and I had no clue where the place was. After rounding the corner, I saw some lights and proceeded to walk down the alley and found three dots and a dash. When you go inside you, I was greater by a bouncer and then walk down the stairs to the bar. I was quickly greeted by the host that I just told them that I wanted to sit as far? So I can go in and find myself to see here when I had gotten there if the place was a little bit more packed but cleared out after a short while and I sat down and ordered some food and a drink. The bartender who helped me was super personable that I made some recommendations and talked about a few different drinks they had. I want you to make sure eyes picked wisely. I ended up going with their namesake drink three dots and a dash which I thought was really good. And I ordered the chicken bites as an appetizer that came with three sauces That I also enjoyed. I got in on the last night of the prior seasonal menu so I got to try one of the drinks before they came off and had the sweater weather as well. The drink was pretty good and I'm really glad it was recommended. Ed, they also have a merchroom with a bunch of different tiki glasses available. I picked up one of their newer glasses to take home which came on a little box in a nice little gift bag. All in all, I had a great experience here and I would definitely come back if I was in Chicago. If you're into tiki drinks, this is a must stop. But if you just enjoy a good cocktail and want to get away a little bit, this could be a great place to unwind. read more

Easily one of the most unique and fun spots we visited during our Christmas trip to Chicago. Whether you think of it as a former hidden speakeasy or a full-on hotspot now, it's a must-visit either way. The drinks were incredible... not just delicious, but clearly very thoughtfully crafted, right down to the custom Three Dots & a Dash glassware. And the food? Shockingly good. I wasn't expecting much food-wise given the speakeasy/bar vibe, but everything we tried was absolutely delicious. On top of that, the staff was so friendly and welcoming, offering great recommendations based on what we liked. Truly top-notch all around. We'll be back every single time we're in Chicago. read more

I love this place hard. It's everything for me. The ambience, the drinks, the vibes...what's not to love?! You can go anytime and feel transported to a warm luau mixed with a speakeasy kinda vibe. Also the music is bomb there! Drinks-you can literally order anything from the menu and it's fire. Do not order the drunken skull or do order it! ;) it for sure is a drink for 2 to share and even still beware!!!!!! The mai tai is absolutely incredible. Fresh juices pressed, blends of rum--seriously what's not to love? You will pay at least $20 a cocktail for sure. But it's worth it. Expect to walk out with a well made drink and tipsy. read more
Although it's been open for more than a dozen years, I visited the speakeasy, Tiki-themed Three Dots and a Dash for the first time last night to celebrate my husband's birthday--and what a treat it was. While the bar has a Clark Street address, true to speakeasy fashion you actually enter through the alley. A long flight of stairs, with walls covered in exotic plant material to set the Tiki mood, leads down to the host area and bar. The main bar is dark and atmospheric, with a lush tropical theme. Booths line three walls, high-top tables fill the center of the room, and a long bar backed by an impressive display of liquor bottles anchors the space. Since we visited in December, the room was decorated with festive silver wreaths, and there was a special menu of holiday cocktails. I ordered the Eggnog Grasshopper, while my husband chose the 1944 Mai Tai. Both drinks were refreshing and delicious, though on the small side. We also shared a Gingerbread Painkiller and an order of Prime Skirt Steak Skewers. The skewers were tender, moist, and full of flavor--absolutely delicious. Because it was my husband's birthday, our pleasant waitress surprised us with complimentary shots of Hot Buttered Rum, served on a charming platter complete with treasure coins and a skull mug bubbling with dry-ice smoke--a very nice touch. The Hot Buttered Rum shots were outstanding and much appreciated. I also loved that Three Dots and a Dash is a Lettuce Entertain You property, allowing me to both use and earn bonus points. We came on a Tuesday night and grabbed one of the last tables available - definitely a spot that fills up even on quieter nights. The drinks are beautifully presented in playful tiki mugs, making them both Instagram worthy and genuinely enjoyable. Yes. Otherwise you have to wait forever at the bar and then won't have anywhere to sit.

Nope! You can always sit at the bar. Sometimes it's easier to make a reservation to be safe, but not needed.
Do they sell souvenir tiki mugs with the "three dots and a dash" inscriptions?
Yes they do! They have them in stock but beware they can be a bit pricey.
