Showed up at 12:45am. The door guys said head on in, it's last call. It's a 2am bar, that usually means they serve till 1am. The bartender said they were done. The ambiance is urban chic, although they are 2 floors down in the basement.

The "Gentle Fish" ($22). Slightly sweet but QUITE strong. Unique flavor, I liked it a lot! Little pricey, but it does hit fast

Lazy Bird is a cute Chicago speakeasy but let me tell you something -- this place is CROWDED. I came early in the evening and got the last spot at the bar (I was by myself), and within 30 mins while I was having my drink I looked around and noticed that the room was near totally full, and the majority of people were standing in the open because all the tables were full, as was the bar. People were standing right behind me to order drinks; I didn't feel overly crowded by any means but some who aren't used to that kind of bar/clubby vibe might feel that way. The music was a little loud to be heard over all the folks there, but I wasn't talking to anyone so it didn't bother me (was just sitting and reading a book). The bartender was really nice and attentive despite the fact that the place was so packed. I had a drink called the "Gentle Fish" which the bartender rec'd as a sweeter/more floral drink. Admittedly it was a little strong, but the flavor was nice! It was different from most other drinks I've had, and I enjoyed it. Was strong enough I definitely did not need another though. Of note, this place is downstairs under "The Hoxton" hotel, there's no entrance directly to the bar from the sidewalk/street (you have to enter the hotel lobby, then follow the signs toward the back and go down the elevator and/or stairs). There is a person who checks your ID when you enter and seats you if seats are available. The bathrooms were very clean. Not sure about parking but street parking is definitely very limited; I imagine a paid lot would probably be the easiest thing or taking the train from wherever you're staying if you can (which is what I did).

Love love love Lazy bird and happy to say my weekend experience is just as good as the weekday. The weekday vibe was nice and chill but the weekend is definitely a lot more lively. The live performances are usually very talented. Although I've never had the food, the drinks are always good but strong and thats always a plus. I've never had a negative service experience. Always quick and polite. One of my favorite places to take people

Very cool cocktail spot in the basement of the Hoxton. Great vibes and service!! They have a large cocktail menu with lots of classic drinks and also a fun rotating menu. It was zodiac themed while we were there. I didn't order a special drink though-- just a dirty martini. It was great and they have delicious blue cheese olives.

A very chic speakeasy in the Hoxton hotel in West Loop Chicago. Great ambiance and music. Great for a date night or drink with friends. We came here on a Friday. Tables are reservation only but we found a spot at the bar. The bartenders are very friendly old fashioned was delicious! There's a love music band after 9.30 pm so the place gets packed! We will definitely be back.

We made a reservation for a table to celebrate a friend's birthday. We were right by the stage area and had a couch with a bench. They had a lot of menu choices for drinks. Minimal food available with no GF options. The grasshopper was my favorite. The music was also pretty good. There were a lot of people and they do crowd the area so couldn't see the stage. Also had strangers sit on the couch. We did ask them to leave but they were pushing back and said some very inappropriate things. We did go up to the host stand to help us but no one ever came over.

I have been to this bar twice now and every time I come the menu has new and exciting cocktails to try! This time I had a Chamomile Martini, however the twist in this cocktail was a hint of shiitake mushrooms! If you love savory cocktails-this is the cocktail! The inside is beautiful! My friends and I came on Sunday so it was a quiet night before we headed to our dinner spot.

Excellent service, fun speak easy in the Hoxton Hotel. Great place to come after dinner. Love the vibe!

I visited Lady Bird for the first time with my husband and I can't wait to return. When we first arrived the manager ( Max I believe) was very welcoming. We were sat promptly and the band was fantastic! I just wish I had later reservations to enjoy the set longer but we'll be back. We had a slight mishap but thanks to the professionalism of the manager it was handled well and I truly appreciate such great customer service. I highly recommend.

I'm genuinely sad to be writing this, because Lazy Bird used to be one of my favorite spots in Chicago. The last two times I've visited, the once-intimate speakeasy atmosphere has been completely overtaken by overcrowding. Even with a reservation and a table, the space was so packed that you could barely move--let alone comfortably enjoy the experience. Seeing the performer was nearly impossible, and getting a drink took far longer than it ever should, especially for a venue that prides itself on craft cocktails and live music. What was once cozy and refined now feels more like a cramped club, and honestly, the crowding bordered on feeling unsafe. It's hard not to wonder how this many people in such a tight space is even acceptable. This critique comes from a longtime patron who loved Lazy Bird and brought friends here often. I hope management takes a hard look at capacity, service flow, and the overall guest experience, because what made this place special is getting lost--and that's a real shame.

Chiang Mai Reprieve, Alor After Dark
    Jessy K.

I've been here multiple times and it's a place I've brought multiple friends to. Located below the Hoxton Hotel, I really enjoy the ambiance inside. The signature cocktails are well curated and have an Asian theme to them. I recently got the Alor After Dark and it was a delicious coconut-y, spicy, bready, cereal-milk-y flavor. All these flavors came together so well, I loved it. The Chiang Mai Reprieve is a lovely clarified cocktail, which takes a lot of time to prebatch make. It's a tasty Thai tea cocktail. I've had their other signatures and they were all good. It just depends on your preference of the flavor profiles. It gets pretty busy if you come later at night on weekends, so just something to keep in mind. You can walk in but to guarantee a seat at a table you'd need a reservation.

Are Saturdays and Sundays both walk in only?

Is there dancing to old school r&b?

Only if the band is playing old school r&b- not much room to dance but you can groove 😃

Is this good spot for celebrating valentines Day? What's the dress code?

It's dimly lit and swanky, so yeah I'd say good for valentines day drinks as long as you're not expecting dinner too. Of course you can get that at any of the two or three restaurants upstairs. No dress code, but most people in there will be smart…

Let me just say this first... the ambiance is SO chic! I loved all the pictures and the vinyls throughout the restaurant. I came a little after brunch, so they had a live DJ spinning some really good, easy music. It was definitely a vibe. I had the pleasure of being served by Paulina, and she was great! Very attentive and, what I appreciated most, she was actually honest about what she liked and what she didn't. I love when a server will give you their REAL opinion instead of telling you everything on the menu is good. I decided to try the Elote Deviled Eggs because I wanted something different. And different they were! If you're a deviled egg lover, just know this isn't your typical deviled egg. They're served on top of a slice of corn on the cob, which I thought was pretty unique. Now let's talk about these chicken wings... I was VERY disappointed. To me, they tasted like frozen wings that were thrown in the oven for a few minutes... or maybe it was the sauce? Either way, I would not recommend the wings. That was definitely a miss for me. BUTTTT the crispy zucchini fries with the aioli??? Yeahhhh, those were GOOD! 8/10 for me. I could definitely order those again. I also had the Pillow Talk drink and it was delicious! Definitely enjoyed that. My friend ordered the crab cake and let me tell you... REAL crab! None of that fake stuff lol. That was really good too. Overall, I enjoyed the atmosphere, the music, the service and definitely some of the food. There were a couple misses for me, but I'd come back and try some other things on the menu. Ambiance: 9/10 Service: 9/10 Zucchini fries: 8/10 Pillow Talk: 9/10 Wings: No ma'am The Vig, I'll be back... just leave them wings alone for me!

I'll start out by saying that the time in the Aviary was the best cocktail experience we have ever had. Not saying the best cocktails (even though they were very good), but the best experience as far as interesting presentations and overall service combined with good cocktails that when you were drinking them did not feel gimmicky at all, but that everything had a purpose. My wife did the 3 drink progression and ordered The Partridge, The 3 Martini Lunch, and the non-alcoholic version of the Kyoto Plum. I got three cocktails, but because I opted for one on their barrel aged part of the menu, my progression was basically a la carte, not the 3 drink $75 price. We also opted for one small bite of food - The Truffle explosion. My drinks were the Cereal Killer, the In The Rocks, and the Blood and Sand. As far as favorites went Joy's Partridge was basically a Mint Julep with some warming spices, but the presentation was great. Almost every table got that drink so it must be well received. My favorite was the Blood and Sand that was just a really well balanced cocktail. I think that part of the menu does not get the elaborate presentations. We both also enjoyed sharing the 3 martini lunch which was a small version of a Vesper, a Gibson, and a dirty Martini. Two things about this drink, we like our martinis with gin rather than vodka (obviously a Vesper has both), but their rules are that there are no changes to their menus, so both the gibson and the dirty martini were vodka based. The Gibson and the Vesper were our favorites of the three as the dirty martini was too dirty. There was even more olive brine if we wanted it dirtier. Bottom line, top notch experience, great friendly service, and the atmosphere was awesome watching the room being served some of the drinks we had, and ones that we did not order. The Truffle Explosion was also a very good bite, basically a truffle/parmesan infused soup dumpling that exploded in your mouth and helped out with a little food in our belly while having all that alcohol at the same time. The only disappointing cocktail was the Kyoto Plum mocktail, interesting presentation, but tasted just like grape juice - no real character. A hostess from Next came and got us and took us to our table in Next for the 1987 Manhattan meal. Thanks for a great experience Aviary!!

We made a reservation for their three course cocktail experience for four of us which required a deposit of $75 per person. Only one of us ended up doing the experience (the rest of us were too full and already tipsy from dinner) but it was nonetheless, a very cool experience. Service was top notch. My partner has admired this place for a long time, as a bartender himself, and he has even learned a thing or two from their Bible-like cookbooks. So when the maitre d offered to allow him to step into the kitchen and help finish one of their cocktails, he was absolutely giddy. This was such a memorable and special touch for us during our visit to Chicago. I loved seeing how the kitchen worked together in a traditional kitchen line but only focusing on cocktails. It was an impressive thing to see. Many of the cocktails are presented in an incredibly theatrical way featuring interesting glassware, dry ice, and even a plastic bag filled with flavored air. I actually wasn't a big fan of the cocktail I ordered (it leaned too heavy into the BBQ flavor for my taste) but I enjoyed trying everyone else's cocktails at the table. I would definitely recommend checking out The Aviary if you are a cocktail enthusiast hoping to try something you can't get anywhere else. It truly is a fine dining experience with mixology at the forefront.

Truffle Mafaldine: Very attractive, great personality, and definitely getting my number. Strong long-term potential. Cookie: Cute. We went on a casual date, I had a couple bites, and I'm open to seeing where things go. But honestly, our waitress was the real reason this went so well. She was personable, attentive, and somehow managed to make the whole experience feel effortless. When one of us mentioned not eating dairy, she even brought us a free gelato. Overall: Would swipe right. Would exchange numbers. Would see again. Definitely recommend.

Their drink options are good and the service was great! Our waiter came out and checked up on us a couple of times. Absolutely loved how the view was sitting outside.

We decided to dine at the bar so we could take advantage of the everyday happy hour and use our InKind app. The espresso martini was a HIT. Our favorites were the chips and dips, cheeseburger, chicken taco pita, truffle fries, and oysters. The wings were just okay and I did not love the herb aioli. Our bartender server, I believe her name was Delia, sorry if I spelled it wrong, was super nice. She got slammed but still gave great service the whole time. The ambience is gorgeous and the music really set the vibe. Would definitely come back!

Even the area they kept water for easy access was well thought out. I started with a dozen oysters and ended with the wagyu smash burger, as it was a must order. The oysters are $1 during happy hour, which is 4pm - 6pm everyday. The oysters were fresh and the perfect size, not too big or too small. It came with two sauces, lemons, and mini Tabascos. The wagyu smash burger was pretty good and filling. I'm not the biggest fan of burgers but this one is definitely worth trying! My waiter was attentive and chill. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and can't wait to come back!

We wandered in after dinner nearby and wanted a chill cocktail, we got the cocktail, not so much the chill...and that was 100% okay with us once we realized what we came upon at the top of that staircase. While small, they have all the goods for classic cocktails and even several house curated drinks. You can basically get dealers choice, which is a rotating house cocktail and it will run you around $13, which is the price that most cocktails came in at. The drink menu is seasonal and changes often, but they still sling all the classics and really anything you can think of. My partner went with a house cocktail, but I was after an espresso martini...and honestly, this doesn't seem like an espresso martini place, but they came through and it was a delightful nightcap for sure! Service was stellar, the bartenders were chill, engaged, friendly and efficient. Overall, solid spot for a cocktail in the West Loop - Definitely worth the trip in and up those stairs!

The staff is friendly and helpful (even got a free glass of champagne to celebrate my friend's birthday). It's an easy spot to walk into and, if you're lucky, plop down on one of the seats until closing. The bar's a little hidden in the SoHo house building, and once you're inside behind the swinging saloon doors you're welcomed by a cosy dive bar setting. If there are three things that made the experience this time around less optimal: the bar seemed to have attracted some rowdy/intrusive drunks (we got harassed a few times), the bar area itself had a puke-y smell going on, and the time it takes to get a drink can be quite long.
