Such a fun moody speakeasy for cocktails located in lower level of The Hoxton! They have such an incredible range of cocktails it's truly impressive. There's a decent amount of seating and space in the bar but we went on a Monday evening and it was quite busy so I can only imagine how crowded it gets on a weekend. I came here for my friend's birthday celebration last Thursday night. She had reserved a table for our group, which was very nice, but because it was in the back part of the restaurant, we couldn't see the live performer who was simply outstanding (Jenipher Jones). We had to go to the front to see her, even though you could hear her just fine from the table. My friend ordered a number of appetizers for the table. I only tried the beef skewer with pesto (good and tender) and the homemade chips and onion dip (very good). I also ordered a mocktail (OK in taste but full of ice so not at all worth the price - $17!). If you do not drink, just have water or a soda - their mocktails are the same price as cocktails, which is really not cool. Our server, Kristin, was very nice. She took our pictures and was just helpful overall throughout the night. The vibe and the look of the place was dim and moody - very cool place to bring a date, go alone, or be with friends. Lazy Bird is a cute Chicago speakeasy but let me tell you something -- this place is CROWDED. I came early in the evening and got the last spot at the bar (I was by myself), and within 30 mins while I was having my drink I looked around and noticed that the room was near totally full, and the majority of people were standing in the open because all the tables were full, as was the bar. People were standing right behind me to order drinks; I didn't feel overly crowded by any means but some who aren't used to that kind of bar/clubby vibe might feel that way. The music was a little loud to be heard over all the folks there, but I wasn't talking to anyone so it didn't bother me (was just sitting and reading a book). The bartender was really nice and attentive despite the fact that the place was so packed. I had a drink called the "Gentle Fish" which the bartender rec'd as a sweeter/more floral drink. Admittedly it was a little strong, but the flavor was nice! It was different from most other drinks I've had, and I enjoyed it. Was strong enough I definitely did not need another though. Of note, this place is downstairs under "The Hoxton" hotel, there's no entrance directly to the bar from the sidewalk/street (you have to enter the hotel lobby, then follow the signs toward the back and go down the elevator and/or stairs). There is a person who checks your ID when you enter and seats you if seats are available. The bathrooms were very clean. Not sure about parking but street parking is definitely very limited; I imagine a paid lot would probably be the easiest thing or taking the train from wherever you're staying if you can (which is what I did). read more

Dim lighting, live music energy, and just the right mix of chill and upscale. It's the kind of place where you can actually enjoy the atmosphere without feeling rushed. This was my second time here and I remember it being just as good back in 2022. The drinks were immaculate. I had two mocktails that were both well-balanced (not overly sweet, which I appreciate), and he ordered an old fashioned. Visited Lazy Bird on a Thursday night around 10 pm without a reservation. We waited in line for quite awhile and were trying to figure out the cadence in which they let people in as there were many people coming out and still no one being let in. The cover fee is $10 and without a reservation or a guest of the Hoxton, entry is on a first come, first served basis. Once inside, the space isn't ridiculously big but spacious enough as to where it doesn't feel as if people are over you all night. I got a pornstar martini and can certainly say that I've had better which is disappointing as the beverages were spoken about in high regard. I can't remember the name of the woman who was singing that night but she was SINGING DOWN. I've been here multiple times and it's a place I've brought multiple friends to. Located below the Hoxton Hotel, I really enjoy the ambiance inside. The signature cocktails are well curated and have an Asian theme to them. I recently got the Alor After Dark and it was a delicious coconut-y, spicy, bready, cereal-milk-y flavor. All these flavors came together so well, I loved it. The Chiang Mai Reprieve is a lovely clarified cocktail, which takes a lot of time to prebatch make. It's a tasty Thai tea cocktail. I've had their other signatures and they were all good. It just depends on your preference of the flavor profiles. The hype around Lazy Bird sadly didn't meet expectations when visiting. Our experience started by thinking the side door by the branded neon sign was the entrance to the bar; it was not. Make sure you enter through the hotel lobby and go right before seeing signage on where to go. Once we found the bar, the inside was well designed: very intimate, cool patterns and textures, staff were extremely nice. We sat at the main banquet so we could watch drinks be made which was fun. The menu was the next obstacle. Most of the menu is their take on classic cocktails. There is a small seasonal section that has unique, one off selections but was also still listed as "fall specials" in December. Rather than paying $18+ for a drink I can get anywhere, it was an easy decision to go for a special. Our server explained the notes to us and we ordered the Q'Tuanis and Cielo Andino. The Q'Tuanis ended up tasting like there was a hint of coffee which my partner hated. It was light and smooth but the flavor profile felt all over the place. The Cielo Andino was describes as a spiced rum drink and ended up tasting like citrus and fruity; definitely more of a summer vibe. Lazy Bird seems to be loved by most but sadly, we didn't fall into that category. If you are looking for an elevated hotel bar with straight forward cocktails, this is a great option. Lazy Bird is a lovely cocktail bar in West Loop. The service is excellent; I had two people checking in on me throughout the evening and they were both intimately familiar with the menu. As for the drinks: both cocktails I tried were solid, albeit a tad pricey. Beverages will run ~$30 a pop when you factor in tax and tip. This isn't breaking the bank by any means but if you're looking to drop sub $20 a drink you might want to try Gus' or another hotel bar. And even though the setup is nice, it's not a pretentious place. I wouldn't suggest walking in with flip flops, but I saw multiple people in shorts and gym shoes.
