As we were staying in the Pendry Hotel for our staycation, we decided to checkout this rooftop bar. I made a reservation for us to have drinks there after we had dinner at Gene & Georgetti. They are open Thursday - Saturday from 5:00pm - 11:00pm. On this particular night, there was a DJ spinning tunes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior and outside area are attractive and comfortable, but on the small size for a hotel bar, with the outside area boasting a nice view of the city skyline.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Due to the space restrictions, I like that they take reservations so I know I have a place to sit, be comfortable and have a drink. They do serve food, but the menu is limited in terms of the number of items. Since we had eaten prior to coming here, we did not try any of the food, but our server did bring us out a dessert on the house to celebrate our anniversary. I believe it was a mini baked cheesecake, which was nice with the bubbles I was drinking. Château Carbide is one of those rooftop spots that makes you fall in love with Chicago all over again. The views are stunning -- especially at sunset -- and it's the perfect place for a date night or a special evening out. We ordered the garden flatbread (pesto, zucchini, heirloom tomatoes, summer squash, goat cheese) and it was light, fresh, and flavorful. They also brought out almonds and olives on the house, which was such a nice touch to start things off. For drinks, we tried three: Salted Coconut Ube Daiquiri (Diplomatico Planas Rum, coconut liqueur, lime juice, ube extract) hands-down my favorite of the night. Creamy, tropical, and perfectly balanced. Cute spot for drinks! They even bring some nuts and olives to munch on. It was unfortunately windy and colder on this summer night so we opted to sit inside. Big fan of tiki drinks and rooftop bars. When I saw that Strong Water Anaheim would be doing a pop-up, I promptly booked a spot. In all fairness...I wasn't quite sure what this would entail. As the advertisement was unclear other than specialty drinks from Strong Water would be served and lite bites. I tried getting more info on this venue's social media and website. Only thing I could ascertain was that there was a French Happy Hour from 5 to 7pm. Well...not on this evening which was a bummer. They decided no happy hour because of the pop-up. Had I known that was no happy hour, I would of went to happy hour somewhere else and came for the view and tiki drink after 7pm. Anyway...first disappointment was no happy hour. Second disappointment was slow service. It took over 30 minutes to get our cocktails. Our server was nice and even served us a cup of popcorn with their housemade yeast seasoning but this really dampered the mood. There was only 2 dedicated server for the whole patio. Seriously there were more hostess. By the time we got our first round we were ready to go. The menu didn't interest us and we didn't want to pay for another $20 drink. On this occasion they did have DJ settings up as we were leaving. The social media said live music 6pm to 8pm. We left at 650pm. It was too late to get happy hour downtown by this point. While I enjoyed my drink, I was underwhelmed with the pop-up. Really I think it was a missed opportunity for both businesses to showcase their brands. My experience at Cheateau Carbide was good but not excellent and I tell why. I found the food fairly priced and the quality, taste was also pretty good (tried the shrimp cocktails and a winter bloom cocktail). At the same time, food options are very limited Service was also pretty good, there was not a single moment when I had to look around for service guys in case I needed anything. We had a reservation for 8pm and were seated outside on the patio. The host led us to our table and within the first 10 minutes, one of the waiters/bar backs dropped the door to the fireplace on our dogs head (she was under my wife's chair and not in the way. The individual did not acknowledge or apologize) and had a hostess slam a nearby table into ours TWICE, spilling our water, without a single word or acknowledgement/apology. This was noticed by the group of girls who were waiting for their tables to be put together, and they seemed shocked as well. Our waiter made his appearance shortly after, and since we hadn't decided what we wanted, he said he would be back in a few minutes. 18 minutes later, he reappeared to take our order. However, he did not seem to be in the mood/headspace to be taking orders (very frazzled or disoriented). We each ordered a cocktail. My wife's drink was fairly bitter for being an espresso martini, however mine was very good (I ordered the bitter barrel). After about 15 minutes of sipping our drinks, I accidentally kicked the table, which led to some of my wife drink spilling on the table. Our waiter walked right past about 20 seconds after it happened and didn't say a word (he looked down at the table and saw the spill). We flagged a waitress down for some napkins, and she said she would be right back with them. I set a timer because I was not very optimistic, and it was 19 minutes before a bar back came over to ask us if we needed anything. When we said yes, we needed a napkin, he said (not paraphrasing) "Yes I knew something was wrong when I saw you guys. Sometimes people are not used to upscale hospitality. I can get a you some napkins". We were extremely nice to the entire staff and dressed professionally. We are younger, so not sure if the comment was a response to that. Regardless, not the sort of thing I imagine you tell guests who are spending the evening at your establishment. We will not be coming back and any of our friends who ask for recommendations, this will be the one place we tell them to stay far away from. read more

Came here twice now with fiends from out of town and I, selfishly, love that the crowds have not overrun this location. The views are terrific and the vibe is much more relaxed than the Uber busy competing rooftop locations. The first time we sat inside and really like the vibe - we can get a bit loud after a few drinks but we even had our server hysterically laughing! (Everyone here is so nice!). The second time I came, despite the cloud coverage, we sat outside to take in the views and fresh air. The outdoor furniture was super comfortable too! We settled on a bottle of Chandon Rosé which came out super fast! Service here was top notch - they even moved us inside and held a table for us inside once it started to sprinkle. We were never offered utensils or even napkins, which would have been nice with the greasy olives. The Salted Coconut Ube Daiquiri smelled and tasted like sunscreen. The Meet Me at the Roof was good enough to chug, but not to enjoy. The Dragon Fruit Watermelon Margarita was an alright margarita which somehow tasted as pink as it looked. The Bartender works very hard to make sure everyone who wants one has a tasty drink in hand. Friendly staff. I appreciate the manager supporting the bartender by telling people it will be a couple minutes before another order could be placed to the lone Bartender isn't super overwhelmed. Overall good drinks, albeit a bit expensive most likely due to the fact that it is in a very popular area with a very nice view of the city on the 24th floor of the Pendry building. Drinks are made exactly the way they are written, so there are no negative surprises or positive pleasant surprise highlights. My friends and I ordered the Bonjour (belvedere vodka, blueberry, vanilla, absinthe, and fever-tree club soda), the Frappe Carbide (absinthe, raspberry, lychee, fever-tree sparkling lime & yuzu, and eggwhite), and the two spirit free drinks: Evening in the Garden (lapsang souchang, lemon, fever-tree sparkling sicilian lemonade) and Lime Basil Spritz (lime basil syrup, soda, and olive oil). I will speak to the Bonjour that I ordered: It has a lot of red licorice at the bottom, so if you are a fan of licorice, you will love it for sure when you mix the drink up. Otherwise, drinking it as is will be just fine. The bar has a good amount of cozy couches on the rooftop that turn out very nice in the summer in the evening. I am glad my friends and I were able to visit Chateau Carbide while we were in town visiting! My friend made a reservation or 3:30 pm on a Saturday. We arrived at the Pendry Hotel and were escorted to the elevators where we were instructed to go to the 24th floor. Since we were a few minutes early, we decided to hang out in the lobby for a bit and freshen up in the powder room. The lobby of this hotel is classy. When we were ready to go upstairs, we waited for the elevator and there was a hostess on the elevator who was checking people in for their reservations. She was super friendly and when we made it upstairs, she informed us that there was not an outside table available so we were given the option of either sitting inside or we would hang out at the "free-standing" bar outside. We opted for the outside view so that we could take photos and enjoy a rooftop afternoon. She then walked us over to the bar where we were to order our drinks and then she told us she would check on us a little later in case a table opens up. My friends and I were at the bar where Ian and Shaun were making drinks and being fabulous! There were a few different menus for us to look at, but I saw the Frosé machine and knew what I needed in my life! The cocktails on the menu all used some key ingredients and we knew they would be tasty no matter what we ordered. My Frosé came in a cute little pink cup with a recyclable straw. It was so refreshing on a hot day! After we all received our drinks, we left our tabs open (they keep your credit card) and walked outside to hang out and take photos. The view from the rooftop is pretty cool and they have included some good furniture and plants to make the rooftop feel tropical. I will say that this is a very small rooftop with not much room to linger or move around. I imagine on a business afternoon or evening it might get too crowded so I am glad we went during a less busy time. After hangout out for a bit, we needed another cocktail so we made our way back inside to the bar. We decided at this time, that we wanted to sit down and cool off so we were able to snag a table right next to the bar which was nice. We all ordered another round of drinks and while we were sitting down, we noticed that Shaun was making a large cocktail (picture included) for a group. I found out that they can make any of their cocktails for large groups and they will provide it in their fancy pitcher for sharing. It was fun to watch him put this together and I hope the group enjoyed it, but I was quite happy with my glass of Rosé. We were ready to pay our tabs and closed out pretty easily. Fabulous spot for cocktails, surprisingly good sushi and wine/champagne in one of Chicago's most beautiful buildings (Carbon & Carbide, made exclusively to resemble a bottle of champagne). The indoor ambiance is just as lovely and humble as the outdoor. They can accommodate groups pretty well with their oversized booths indoors and lounge furniture outdoors. We had the most delightful server who informed us that there would be a Pendry opening up in DC on the wharf, which I could not be more excited for. This little spot is located on the 24th floor of the stunning Carbide and Carbon building in Chicago. This gem of a Chicago building has long been one of our favorites to gaze at. So when we discovered they'd opened a rooftop space, we stalked reservations. We got in this past Saturday. When we arrived they escorted us to a small, low top cocktail table in a comfy lounge area. There was room for about 16-20 people in the space. Very cozy. There is a pretty outdoor deck that offered cool breezes and a pretty view of the city. We ordered a martini and the the Made Man. Both were great and decently portioned. This is a hotel bar, so you're paying hotel prices. So I won't complain about that, that's to be expected. But yes, be prepared to pay hotel prices. While we had planned to, we ultimately decided not to have dinner there. It was a nice, relatively small sushi menu with what sounded to be good combinations, but eating sushi on a low top just seemed like it had the potential to be messy. The staff was attentive and warm. And as we left, we did notice a small dining room on the back half of the restaurant. Not sure how you get booked there versus the lounge... but all that to say, if you want dinner, and not just drinks, you may want to request it in advance. Finally, if you're there to see (gawk) at this gorgeous building, going up gets you closer, but maybe not quite there. One of the best drinks I've ever had - and I sampled all of my friends drinks too! Chateau Carbide is a smaller bar, but it has a beautiful interior and great views from the rooftop although the building next door is undergoing construction. I really enjoyed my experience here, but I especially loved the drinks. We ordered the Palm Rose Frose, the She Bop, the Made Man, the Clover Club Milk Punch, and the Broken English. These are some of the best drinks I've ever had. My favorite was the Made Man, but they're all great. The Broken English has a bit of a kick which is nice. We also ordered the crunchy tuna roll - delicious! They have a sushi chef that you can watch make your rolls, and they clearly know what they're doing. I haven't been the biggest fan of sushi in Chicago, but I loved this roll. Our service was also very quick and attentive. A friend and I decided to last minute check out this place on a Friday evening. We made reservations just incase online and found that there was availabilities open around 7:30 pm, and when we arrived, we were seated pretty quickly inside. We ended up ordering some drinks (a glass of rose and and the Kishi Bashi cocktail) as well as the Midway roll and the Windy City roll. I was pleasantly surprised by the sushi rolls as they were quite tasty; however, coming from the Bay Area, I would say I thought everything was quite pricey for the amount of food that we got. Although the area is small, this rooftop does get a pretty nice view of the area's skyline. There was also a live DJ playing some great music the night that we were there. Vibes were great, we originally had outdoor seating, but it was raining so they called and gave us a heads up and sat us inside. Service was slow, a lot of drinks were not available either. Very small menu, with a few hand rolls and rolls to choose from. I got the Windy City roll which was very good. The sushi was very fresh!
