While the mocktail options were limited, they had a great variety of cocktails to choose from. They are known for their innovative cocktails, bold flavours and unique glassware and decor on the drinks to enhance the experience even further. I would recommend going in a group so that you can try many! They also have a happy hour that is worth checking out. We tried these cocktails: 1. Heart of the Ocean - spoiler alert - it's the blue heart image I've attached haha. I loved this, looks beautiful and was tasty 2. Savage Garden - interesting mix of spices 3. Pistachio Affogate - I had more expectations on this one. It was alright, tasty but nothing crazy. 4. Devil's Cup - maybe the best one we had. The chili chocolate is YUM 5. I came here to take a floral class and it was an amazing experience! I've been to their location on Division and this location is absolutely lovely. It feels like an Alice and Wonderland speakeasy. Beautiful lush velvet seating, gorgeous floral art on the walls, charming chandeliers with the sexiest mood lighting and a really cool area where the floral class took place. It's a vibe. Service was meh. I didn't love seating at the bar for 20 minutes and not provided water or asked if I wanted a drink. Ah well. An excuse to not drink and save money I guess. Food is fine. I ordered truffle fries--nothing to write home about. Service was also spotty during my class. My server never brought what I requested. The stars are specifically for the floral class which was amazing! The instructor was absolutely fantastic and so informative. We were able to pick out stems and make a lovely arrangement. I also loved that they helped us wrap the bouquet professionally to gift if we wanted it. Fantastic! 5 stars and the instructor made this experience. I visited The Machine in Chicago for my birthday, and it turned out to be the perfect place to celebrate. We booked our reservation through OpenTable, which was quick and easy, and from the moment we arrived the staff made me feel genuinely special. The vibe of the bar is what stood out first. It has a grown and sexy atmosphere with dim lighting and a cozy, intimate feel that makes the whole space really inviting. It felt elevated but still comfortable, and the ambiance set the tone for such a fun night. Our waiter was honestly one of the best parts of the experience. He was so kind, attentive, and funny in the most effortless way. He mentioned that he works every day, so if you go, ask for him and tip him well because he truly adds to the experience. Happened upon this place on a little wander through the neighborhood and decided to drop in for Saturday night drinks. We didn't have a reservation, but we were sat at the bar immediately. The vibes here are dark, modern, and upscale. The space itself is pretty large too. I ordered the hanging garden which comes in this little hanging planter. I was very much well acquainted with the former Wicker Park location as it was my haven during the summer/fall 2020 pandemic as they had the huge patio to dine and drink on! Loved it! They have now moved to the most northern part of River North and rebranded themselves as a cool and chill cocktail lounge which is right up my alley! Grand opening was recent and I was happy to be one of their first customers. Its located downstairs from Headquarters Beercade (they own it and Dearly Beloved). Walked in to a very dim setting and was greeted by some very lovely ladies. Grabbed a seat at the bar and saw a familiar face...a woman named Tessa that worked at Inkwell previously. She's very awesome and makes great cocktails. Menu looked great and it was hard to pick what I wanted. I started with the Fowl Woodman which is a Tenjaku whisky and Pechuga mezcal based cocktail...my favorite drink of the night! Puts you in the mindset of an old fashioned by the look of it but its so much better than that! Next I went with the Rose Colored Contacts. Tequila and red wine based cocktail that also includes milk and egg whites...fantastic and smooth as hell! Highly recommend! 3rd Cocktail was the Casually Judging which includes tequila and mezcal...comes topped with a chili dried pineapple. A little spicy and was ok...the lesser of the 3 but still decent. Finished my night with a nice Oaxacan old fashioned executed by Tessa! Watched them make other amazing drinks such as the Dirty Little Secret Martini, Arabian Night, Duck Duck Goose, Love is A Fog, Shrimp Cocktail Cocktail (came topped with a shrimp lol) and Pistachio Affogato (comes with gelato). Got hungry throwing these drinks down so I tried the Machine Burger. Its a smash burger with 2 patties with a fried shallot, onion soubise and pickled jalapenos on a brioche bun accompanied by truffle fries. Burger was good but would get it without jalapenos next time as I felt it disrupted the already amazing flavor. Staff here is dope and the setting and ambience is great. I loved the Machine on division (now closed) so I was thrilled when I saw their new concept and couldn't wait to try it out. It did not disappoint! Extremely classy, elevated, intimate environment from the moment you step down the stairs (and perfectly dimly lit), everyone I interacted with was so friendly. I ordered the pistachio affogato, which was beautiful and a very dessert-like drink. I liked that you could either eat the gelato(?) alone or let it melt for a creamier drink. I attempted to take a bite out of the rose but it was extremely frozen, which made it a bit difficult, though I think this was necessary to retain the beautiful rose shape. I do wish I could have tasted a bit more of the cold brew flavor but it wasn't as noticeable as the almond, pistachio, and rose flavors. The rose colored contacts was their taste on a New York sour sans whiskey, with tequila. It was also very good and interesting! I especially thought the cocoa dust on top gave it an added depth of scent and flavor. Really top notch cocktails and I can't wait to come back and try the carrot cake espresso martini. I did also order food and while it wasn't bad, it wasn't anything that wowed me. I do know they're still working out their food menu and it changes often so while I wouldn't reorder the same things, I'd be open to trying it again. Honestly, my Duck, Duck, Goose not only came in an adorable ducky bottle but also tasted like a roast duck dinner! And the gooseberry garnish were super tasty too. I will say right off the bat everyone from the bouncer to the front desk to every server was extremely kind and welcoming. We had an early reservation to kick off our evening and were seated immediately at the cutest little corner table, tucked away with a perfect view of everything going on. I would hope by now my fans know I do everything possible to always keep it real. You may read this review and ask yourself, why, in light of my feedback, I didn't rate Machine a four... or a three, if you incorrectly assume I am tougher and harsher than I really am. Well, I'll tell you... it's because I love Machine Cocktail Bar so freaking much, despite the areas I feel were a little (and I mean very little) shy of what I would call perfection. I had the distinct pleasure of trying: - Hamachi Crudo - Caged & Infused - Kevin Bacon - Breakfast in Bed The Hamachi Crudo: almost excellent. The fish was of very high quality, and the combination of a soy-ginger sauce, the jalapeño mango relish, and the sesame seed topping all led to a wonderful blend of sweet, salty, sour, and umami. However, this balance was offset by the very high acid level of the dish, which overpowered all the other wonderful things the crudo had going on, making them more muted. Caged and Infused: Never before had I been given a cocktail that came with a small hammer! Also, with the butterfly pea infusion, shouldn't it technically be blue? But I digress. This drink had a candy cage on top that almost served as a hat, and the hammer was used to apply gentle violence to break it. The cocktail was appropriately boozy, and the butterfly pea flavors were subtle (as they tend to be even in the tea), but present. Overall, I loved how luscious the drink was. However, my critique, and this is more a personal preference than anything else, is that the drink was very sweet, and this is before the crème de violette candy. While some drinks are supposed to be sweeter, I feel as though the sugar level may have gotten in the way slightly in terms of flavors. Kevin Bacon: A typical cocktail garnish is a lemon, lime, citrus peel, or cherry - all tried and tested, respectable options. An atypical garnish? BACON! I'm not complaining, I am excited! This cocktail was perfection. Unlike the Caged and Infused, while it had some sweetness, it was of an ideal level. The whiskey made itself well known without it feeling like I was drinking it (almost) straight. The other ingredients of persimmon and lemon provided sweetness and tartness, with the soda water adding bubbles and helping the flavors not get in each other's way. Breakfast in Bed (mocktail): In a word, phenomenal! So... the bartender is making a drink and pouring it into a grenade-looking thing. Surprise! This was the breakfast in bed I ordered! The drink itself was flawless in every way: aromatics, sweetness, tartness, a little maple, a little bubbles. It is named just right, truly resembling a breakfast in bed... but one made by a professional chef, not a kid and dad trying to impress mom. Oh, and remember that 'grenade'? While both cocktails and mocktails come with ice, with cocktails, I get at least 1.5 oz of spirit. With mocktails, it too often feels like I am getting a few splashes of liquid and mostly ice. The container was properly filled with liquid, and the glass with ice and bits of cereal (another unexpected and terrific garnish). One is then able to add liquid at their own leisure without worrying that they are being swindled or that the drink is being watered down. The presentation of this mocktail allows for a great transition into talking about their vibe. With a name like Machine, I was expecting a very industrial vibe. What I encountered instead was one of the factors that makes me love Machine so much. The vibe is nothing short of amazing. It is warm, inviting, comfortable, upscale, and classy, with a fantastic use of color, light, branches (!), and sound that is not too loud or too quiet. Everything is well thought out, including the glassware! The final thing that makes Machine so magnetic to me is the service. The bartenders are among the kindest and friendliest folks I have met in my years of going to restaurants and bars. They are not only knowledgeable about the products but also committed to their craft--testing cocktails with the straw-dip-and-plug test to make sure they are producing and serving a quality product. Final Verdict: While considering the acidity of the crudo and the over-sweetness of the Caged & Infused, one could argue that Machine wasn't flawless perfection. With this in mind, it technically wasn't. However, there is so much that is beyond next level that I cannot recommend it highly enough. read more

But what we HAVE tried so far are several cocktails (it is SO Hard to decide between these creative beauties) and a very excellent burger. Happy Hour is decent. Service is aspirational, fun hostess to server, each said they'd do something helpful /cool then apparently forgot. But since the baseline experience is very good, not that big a deal. I've been to the old location and observed the improvements right away. Street parking is available. Once you walk down a set of stairs you instantly see the aesthetics which is divine. They definitely took it up a notch at this location. It feels more intimate. The dip was decent and they didn't shortstop with the caramelized onion. I had a taste of the burger and truffle fries it's a winner in my book. We had an attentive and excellent waiter. He was polite and very professional. Once upon a time there was a caterpillar called Machine Engineered Dining and Drinks of Wicker Park. It was lovely and had so much potential, serving lovely cocktails and brunch eats: Glazed Pork and Potato Hash (Korean glaze, caramelized kimchi, sautéed spinach, garlic aioli, and sunny side up eggs) and the Strawberry Shortcake French Toast (Brown Sugar Strawberries, Amaretti Crusted Honey Custard Brioche, Coriander-Cardamom Cream Cheese Frosting, Strawberry Syrup and Orange Zest). They also had a great happy hour with a Cacio Pepe (Bucatini Pasta, Hook's Parmesan and a Pepper Blend). But the shining star for me was that wonderful cocktail called Breakfast at Tiffany's. It was Communal Cocktails that served 2-4 people, and it was lovely (tenjaku gin, watermelon, berry and lemon)! The presentation was lovely, with the drink being served in this lovely cut glass decanter with a flower in the neck of the decanter. Somewhere along the line, the caterpillar transformed into a very lovely butterfly called Machine Cocktail Bar of River North. Machine Engineered Dining and Drinks was cozy and charming, but Machine Cocktail Bar is on the next level of sophistication and chill. This is a place for grown folks to drink. And much to my surprise and delight, that lovely cocktail, Breakfast at Tiffany's is still on the menu...Yay! This lovely haven is located downstairs from Headquarters Beercade, which threw me off for a moment as I was not aware it was down below. There was a lovely gentlemen who escorted us down the stairs. We entered a dimly lit room with amazing décor and another lovely hostess came over to seat us at a table that had two chairs and a sofa. To christen the new butterfly's existence, we got the Breakfast at Tiffany's. Still delicious as ever, but like its mistress, it seemed to have evolved as well (Glendalough rose gin, watermelon, blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, strawberry, lemon)! The ingredients were different, but the experience was just as lovely. The Queen got an Espresso Martini (vodka, Colombian espresso, caramelized brown sugar) and a Carrot Cake Espresso Martini (carrot cake infused grey goose vodka, cold brew, cinnamon, coriander, cream). She said that she enjoyed them very much. The Doctor stuck with beers for the night as he is not much of a cocktail person. As we had dinner plans at Club Lago, we only got some items to snack on but they were good. There was a lovely presentation of liver mousse, done in a decorative smear that not only looked great, but was tasty. I did see someone get the smash burger and it looked pretty good. There were also these savory crackers that had the right amount of salty goodness and there was a lovely presentation of a burrata cheese sitting in a presentation of prosciutto that looked like a rose. All three were wonderful in flavor. All in all, this version of Machine is amazing. Yeah I miss that pasta I use to get at the old joint, but the Breakfast at Tiffany and the décor makes up for that. I am a big fan of both well-prepared classic cocktails and innovative crafted cocktails. While scoping cocktail bars for my vacation in Chicago, I was immediately drawn to Machine based on the cocktail list and the beautiful interior. The stellar reviews on Yelp were important as well, of course, and I'm glad to add mine. We made a reservation, but we showed up early out of anticipation - no problem going in early, and we sat at the bar. We had some of the featured cocktails and excellent conversation with Sam and Brian behind the bar. Talked flowed as easily as the liqueurs. The inside is indeed gorgeous. The crafted cocktails play on your palate giving you a wonderful variety of taste sensations. I am hoping to get back there again during the rest of my stay in Chicago, and for future trips here, this has to be a must-visit site. read more

Have been a machine big fan for years as it is always a must visit when I visit Chicago. I was surprised to see that the old division location had closed as it was absolutely stunning but I trusted that the new place would be equally as aesthetically pleasing and cocktails innovative. This new location is more darker and moody but still equally as upscale and refined in the vibes and atmosphere. They have done an incredible job still curating what a cocktail bar/lounge should be. The finishing touches and decor are immaculate. The host was incredibly accommodating to my flight delays and super friendly, Tash. I only ended up getting one drink as I was headed to their new sister concept Dearly Beloved after (which they will give you a code for 20% off if you let them know). I got the garden and swapped the gin named for another gin that I liked better and it was beautifully presented and also very refreshing and light. The only thing slightly disappointing for me versus the old location is a much more concise and smaller menu than the original location which I normally would come for dinner and drinks in the past. I was bringing a friend this time and initially had planned to do dinner and drinks and then realized the menu is much smaller and not as impressive as it used to be. But I completely get it for this new location it seems they wanted to focus more on the cocktails and not try to also do the food and florals in the same capacity they did prior. I definitely would highly recommend this place as a spot for a date night, solo drinks, or a friends night as there is open bar seating, tables, and lounge style seating. I definitely will be back and still after going to Dearly Beloved is my favorite on the cocktail side of things. read more

My friends are I were very excited to learn that machine had reopened and decided to check it out. The ambience is very chic and moody, they have tons of seating and a huge bar area. We immediately wanted to check out the theatric cocktails and proceeded to order bees pyjamas (my second favorite of the night), Arabian night (very cute, you stir the cherries and the entire drink looks like a sandstorm of glitter and was my favorite of the night), drunken vegetarian (flavorful but the Parmesan crisp was off putting), pistachio affogato (dessert in a drink, loved the fact that they put a small scoop of gelato in the drink) and caged and infused (an old time favorite and we were happy to see it back). We also ordered some apps for the table, spiced oyster crackers (super yummy) and truffle fries (they were decent, not great). The service was great! The severs helped us choose the right cocktails, explained them when they came to server and checked in on us from time to time. Each drink is interactive: as you can see, the first drink was smashed one with a hammer, my neighbor had shrimp in her first drink. Her second drink was the cute duck duck goose which you can see was poured so thoughtfully. My second drink was practically a piece of art and the dessert portion, my Affagato drink had delicious ice cream as my neighbor got the carrot cake drink. I came for a late dinner after work just to relax. I loved the ambiance and where they seated me however I was gravely disappointed when I walked out to my car to see it loaded on a tow bed. Apparently there are signs along the entire street despite the pay to park boxes that read towing from 11p-6am. I thought it rather unkind of the restaurant staff and my server specifically to not mention this. I walked out of the restaurant at 11:13p. Not a courtesy mention or sign any where in the restaurant. The drinks and food I ordered were just okay. Certainly not worth all the trouble I went through after a long day at work. I went back in, in tears to mention that they should let us know this, not only did no one come to the front to greet me, I had to step to the bar and ask for someone to speak with. While Machine Engineered had charisma and personality, this new location embellishes the perfect notes of elevated natural elegance. We immediately got cozy in our chairs. Our server Elijah was just wonderful and helped guide us thru the perfect dinner (my boyfriend is dairy free/pescatarian). We started with the Nori Oyster Crackers, perfect sharing app. The Yellowtail Crudo had just the right amount of spicy notes and was mouthwatering in all the right ways. Our favorite was the Eggplant, perfectly cooked and balanced with so many flavors with every bite. The Zero Proof cocktails were splendid, they didn't feel like everyone else's "juice with some other stuff". HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Pistachio Affogato cocktail as your dessert (does have Rum). It's a melt in your mouth just entered the gates of heaven experience. I had two. Afterwards we went upstairs and had a great time at Headquarters, asked the bartender for two dealer's choice N/A cocktails and after the first sip we both actually said in unison "Holy Sh*t that's amazing". If I could rate this place 10 stars I would. Brian the bartender, Brian the manager, and Christy were absolutely phenomenal. They took care of us and made us the most incredible cocktails. I will recommend this bar to everyone I meet. I recently moved to the city and this is the best experience I have had yet, easily.
