A coworker and I came here. This has a bit of a corporate environment. They have mocktails here too. The check came. Once I put my card down I used the restroom, then my friend used the restroom. The check came and that was space to add tip and calculate your total. I filled the tax and tip, then we left. As we were leaving, we were on the ground floor. A serious man in a suit came and stopped us. He was holding a bill in his hand and said we didn't swipe our card. I immediately offered my card to him a few times. He was stoic, so serious. He was absolutely not apologetic or friendly. We took an awkward elevator ride up together and then he took me to the counter to get my card swiped. Not a single person was friendly here. I regret adding any tip! This deserved 0. My card was sitting at that table for 10-15 mins and the waiter never came to get it. My friend and I felt really bad and felt like criminals. If you look at our bill we had even added tip and calculated the total. Does it look like we weren't trying to pay? Usually your card is swiped and then you get the receipt where you fill out your tip and add on the total. The fact that we had to stand at the bar to pay was weird too. They were not kind. If I could go back in time I'd discuss this with them and pay 0 tip. My friend was here a night before and will not be going again. I deeply regret coming here. Drinks are watery and for this price...the world is your oyster. Go elsewhere! read more

This is a bar/lounge for people who have moneyyyy. People are well dressed and many women were in dresses/skirts and heels (if you're a girly who likes to know what to wear). It's on the rooftop of the Pennisula hotel. There's a doorman who opens all car/uber doors and it's gorge on the inside. There was actually a wedding happen as we were there on the 4th floor. This would've been a lovely place to sit and enjoy the views but the terrace was closed despite the nice weather and there were no tables to sit at and no seats at the bar. The cocktails were pretty affordable considering the vibe but we were so put off by not having a place to sit enjoy the views we didn't order anything and left to find another rooftop so I can't speak for the menu. read more

Z Bar is the lounge at the Peninsula. There's a terrace if the weather is nice or huge windows if it's not. Getting there was a bit complicated - you take elevators up/down depending on where you come in. I chose to sit at the bar, but there are nice loungy spots too. Expect well curated and well crafted cocktails, along with a nice menu of snacks. I Enjoyed some very nice champagne (Perrier Jouet) and mini samosas. The samosas were really nice and an absolutely huge portion. Yeah, it's expensive but it's the Peninsula and you're worth it. read more

A large group of us met up here one weeknight for after dinner cocktails... We sat outside and they gave us a nice, corner spot which was private and tucked away. Our server was great! She kept an eye on us and even brought a blanket, as it was a little chilly out and I was wearing shorts that evening. The drinks were great too.. but the vibe is really what we enjoyed. Definitely worth stopping in for a visit! read more

Unfortunately it drizzled so we couldn't go outside but this is one of my all time favorite drinks I've had. Beautiful inside and outside. Staff is super friendly. Stopped by Z Bar around sunset for dessert with friends, and it was a great spot to unwind. I had the beignets--warm, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweet. The view overlooking the John Hancock was stunning and made for a perfect golden hour hangout. The only thing missing? The vibe could've been elevated with better music. It felt a little too quiet for such a lively setting. Still, for the views and desserts alone, Z Bar is worth a visit. read more

Z Bar is located inside the Peninsula Hotel and I had an amazing time here recently on a very hot Saturday afternoon. Had an option to sit inside, but we saw a nice semi shaded spot outside so we hd no choice but to take advantage of the situation. We had Sarah as a server and she was very helpful with letting us know what all the goodies were on the menu. The Freezer Door Martinis were very much in order due to the very hot temps outside...really good and did the trick. Got them with some blue cheese olives. We were hungry so we definitely needed to get some food in us. We opted for the Tuna Tartare, Z Bar sliders and the potato bites topped caviar. Tuna Tartare was the best of the 3 and I would definitely get that again as it was very flavorful and delicious! Sliders were very good as well as they come in a set a 3. Potato bites with caviar were good also. Recommend all 3! Came back a 2nd time and had Amber as a server and she was awesome as well! Took good care of me. I plan on spending some nice summer days/nights out here the next couple months. Very nice views of the John Hancock Building and nearby hotels on Michigan Ave. read more

I'm not sure why it's taking me this long to do a review of Z Bar as I have been here a long time ago. I used to come here in my late 20s and have drinks in the city and party. Now 20 years later this is the layover spot before an event at the hotel. We ended up coming up to the Z bar because the lobby would not see us simply for drinks and they stated they were closed. Around 3:30 PM on a Saturday. Anyhow, Z bar is impeccable as usual. I will say I would love to see a renovation, especially with some of the colors and fabrics. Unfortunately, also at this time the rooftop outdoor area isn't quite open yet, and someone was trying to set up all of the cushions. Service and menu as always are amazing. And people who usually come here, even though some are a mix of tourists and locals everyone is very well behaved and there's no craziness here which I thoroughly appreciate. read more

The Z Bar was nice and cute. We came at a low-key time so there was not a crowd outside, we probably should've came later at night just to enjoy the views a little better but all in all the service was great. We just did drinks not any food but it looked like the food would've been good. read more

Stopped by Z Bar on a Saturday afternoon. It is located inside the Peninsula Hotel. Upon entering, the elevators are on the left and you take it up to the 'lobby'. Once you get to the lobby, you're welcomed into a beautiful hallway and you'll find another set of elevators to take (located down the hall, off to the right) to get to Z Bar. There was about an hour's wait for a table for 5, but we found our way to the bar and enjoyed our drinks on the outdoor patio area. The weather was chilly but manageable and there were heat lamps/electric firepits on the patio. I imagine it to be beautiful during warmer days! Most cocktails range anywhere from $22-$24 and they are STRONG. There are also so many more drinks available on the menu. Their mojito is the first one I've ever had that was that strong! If you're looking for a light alcoholic drink, I would pass on this, but if you've been wishing your mojito was stronger, this spot does it right!!! The espresso martini was also delightful. The Z was such an interesting drink, it was almost like a green juice and I enjoyed it. It was super busy, but we were able to flag down a bartender and service was fair. I'd definitely come back if I'm looking for another elevated bar experience with views. read more

The terrace closed at 11pm, and a female hostess was very unprofessional and rude to our group and did not create a welcoming environment.

It's the holiday season in the Peninsula hotel is decked out! Z Bar upstairs has nice views of the city, including over their ice-skating rink. It can get busy and take a while to get a drink. Delicious seasonal cocktail and a fun aperitif spritz mocktail. read more

First, we walked in... in street clothes. Highly underdressed, but still served and not ignored--kudos to that! Excellent service, excellent views, great drinks (if you're a liquor person more than say beer/wine). That said, you're paying for the atmosphere, so sit outside and take a lightweight jacket or hoodie if you wanna be a slob like me. lol Two drinks... $44.70. Goddamn. Was not prepared for that pricing. I know it's been a hot minute since I've gone out, but now I feel like I've been living under a rock. But, again, worth it for the atmosphere. Would have preferred beer or wine, but their list wasn't promising. Not their vibe. Totally fine. I get it. Would I go back? Yes. For the atmosphere. And definitely it different attire like I'm not from the slums. I kid, but also, serious. read more

For a place that feels very (very!) high end, you would expect service to come with an attitude. But the service here was wonderful. Attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. We had an assortment of very nice cocktails that were about as pricey as you'd expect for a place like this. On a late Saturday night, music was a little loud and the lights were a little dim. But I'm getting old and have no business being out that late anyway. Planning to go back and enjoy that great terrace in warmer weather. read more

Food: The menu was not large. It's mainly small bites appetizers. The flavors were good. Oyster was fresh. Cocktails: our party love the cocktails here. We especially enjoyed the Bangkok jam. It was very light and aromantic. Service: Excellent. Our server Alina was attentive and very professional. Ambience: This place has a very chill vibe. Good for having a couple of cocktails and good conversation. Nice minimal decor very clean. Would definitely like to go back during the warmer months to check out their outside patio. read more

Z bar had a fun young adult energy, great service, and excellent drinks. I got the yuzu cocktail and it was refreshing, delicious and strong. The view was gorgeous outside and it was nice to be able to enjoy it from the warmth inside. I didn't have a reservation when I went but was able to get two seats by the bar with minimal wait. The Z Bar at the Peninsular in Chicago sucks! $100 for 2 glasses of wine, late June, out on deck taking a picture and employee comes out and shuts us down, says no picture. Unexpected surprise! Located at a rooftop location in The Peninsula hotel. You'll enjoy taking in the luxurious ambience of the establishment as you travel up to the lobby and then another set of elevators up to Z bar. You step into a bright airy space with elevated lounge vibes. It was fairly packed on a Saturday at 4pm. Seats were full but you can get drinks and find a bar spot as people rotate in/out. Great cocktail and drinks list accompanied by the best bar nuts you'll ever get on a complimentary basis. The Bangkok Jam and espresso martini were great! Downside is that they average $20 a drink as you would expect in a place like this. All in all a good spot to bring visitors or a date for cocktails! read more

Ambiance was great. Loved the skylight from the bar! Even though we weren't seated outside, it felt very open and really established the outdoor to indoor vibe of a rooftop bar. The tuna tartare was fresh, well seasoned, & came with chips on the side. Delicious. The drinks were beautiful! Very well balanced in taste and looked so pretty. Service? Bad. This alone makes me never want to come back again. The bartender spilled stainable bitters on my friend's' belongings and ruined my friend's dress. They comped 1 drink, but there was never an apology. They and we just cleaned up the mess and there were no apologies! He just went back to acting like it didn't happen. The 1 $24 drink isn't going to cover the price of my friend's dress. So disappointing. read more

Swung by Z bar pretty late on a weekday night. It took us ages to find the entrance to Z bar as you have to take two different elevators to reach the entrance. The hostess was immediately able to seat us. We got a nice big booth for just the three of us. We tried the Bangkok Jam and The Last word cocktails. Both were really good but a tad bit strong for me. The service was pretty fast. We didn't order any food as it was pretty late but the cocktails came with a bowl of nuts for the table. They were soooooo good. Loved the sweet and salty nuts combo. The server was very friendly and approachable. The ambience was nice although a bit dated IMO. Overall, the vibe was fun and I will definitely visit again. read more

A group of coworkers and I stopped by Z Bar for a drink before dinner while in Chicago. I was happy to see that they had spirit free drinks available, even if $16 for a non-alcoholic drink seemed a little steep to me. I got the SB spritz: Seelip Grove, NA Sauvignon Blanc, soda, citrus, strawberry and it was refreshing and tasty. The atmosphere of the bar is swanky and upscale, with cocktails ranging from $16 up to $1,000. The best part of the bar was the complimentary nuts they give you! I wasn't expecting that, so it was a nice surprise and helped hold me over til dinner. The outdoor balcony looked like it had some amazing views. Unfortunately we were on a bit of a time crunch, so we weren't able to appreciate the view. With so many places to drink in Chicago, Z Bar isn't at the top of my list to revisit, but I'm glad to have checked it out at least once. read more

Classy and upscale cocktail bar on the roof of the Pennisula. It's great spot later in the evening for well made cocktails, good music and some people watching. Came here for a pre-dinner cocktail and was delighted. Z Bar offers beautiful views of the city in a sleek, chic space, with some pretty impressive cocktails to boot. I went for their old fashioned, which was beautifully rendered. Their cocktail menu is a delightful mix of the classics and more inventive creations. They have several high end Manhattans on the menu at varying price points--from $100 for one made with the Balvenie 21 all the way up to one for $1000 made with the Balvenie 40 yr. As tempting as it was, I stuck with the $22 old fashioned made with barrel aged bitters. The service was prompt and polite and the space, as I mentioned, was gorgeous. Get to it! read more

We stayed at the Peninsula hotel, and after spending an hour at the Milk Room, we decided to try the bar at the hotel. This was the perfect spot to wind down after a day of traveling. My husband and I did not have a reservation, but we were able to get seated. The menu included food, so we ordered a light dish along with our drinks. We chose to have the Mediterranean flatbread, which was very good. It was loaded with arugula, and had a delicious red sauce with cheese. I ordered a bourbon cocktail called the Surprise Surprise cocktail. It had a beautiful two tone look and was beautifully garnished. It also wasn't too sweet. I tend to enjoy drinks that are a little bitter or sour, so this one was perfect. The bar was steadily busy for a Thursday night, and it had both indoor and outdoor seating. read more

Pleasant classy afternoon cocktail at the Peninsula hotel.
