So I took myself to a place that was on my "must go to" list. Called The Albert. Menu online is well designed and great looking food. Advertises as $100+ pricing so I'm like ok this is gonna be a nice dinner. What you don't see unless you're looking closely - It's in a medium end Marriott - not mad at that but it's not a stand alone restaurant. The menu looked absolutely nothing like they show on the restaurant website. It was cheap looking. Same food options as website. The ambiance was well designed but - hotel restaurant vibes. Ordered the tuna crudo. Nothing to write home about. The mussels - I'm maybe gonna wake up with food poisoning tomorrow. The bucatini pesto pasta looked like regurgitated peas baby food and overcooked pasta. I sent it back kindly. And the chicken thighs were cooked. Like, that's all I can say. So I paid, still hungry. Cause the chicken thighs had basically no meat. Crudo is naturally so small and the mussels equally. Left and am now at Hampton Social eating a delicious lobster roll and tomato bisque. I really wanted to love this place. The ambiance is very creative and modern. I think this place is good to grab a drink but I wouldn't recommend the food. The Polenta Board was good and something new for me but for the entree, the meat was very chewy and overdone. The Aperol Spritz was good. My mom asked for a cosmopolitan and it disappointed. It wasn't well balanced so you could really taste the alcohol. If your planning on going, I would stick to ordering drinks off the menu. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here given that Chicago has so much more to offer. read more

Had dinner at The Albert and really enjoyed it. I got the orecchiette pasta and it was packed with flavor. The sausage was especially good and everything was cooked perfectly. They also have a great wine list, so finding a good pairing was easy. The whole place is inside the EMC2 hotel and has this fun Einstein theme going on. I loved the library vibes throughout the space. It kind of begs you to take a few photos because the interior is so well done. Service was really great too. I was staying at the EMC2 hotel and decided to stop by the Albert for breakfast. It is so cute and cozy. I was surprised by how busy they were on Thanksgiving morning. I was still able to get a spot near the window. It was Thanksgiving morning, so I wanted to save my appetite for later in the day. I decided to get the parfait and peppermint tea. The parfait was really good. I loved that the yogurt wasn't sweet because the fruit added just the perfect amount of sweetness. The granola was fresh and added a bit of crunch. The peppermint tea came out in the cutest little tea pot. It was perfectly steeped and the tea was high quality. Overall, I enjoyed my breakfast and will return whenever I'm in the area. read more

If you are a brunch fan, then you have to swing by here to try their brunch! It's an Italian style brunchissimo experience and it's definitely what you should experience. The decor inside of the Albert is already outstanding - old books everywhere like literally thousands of them in from what I was told some of them are limited addition or hard to find books. How dope is that? The live music is the next best thing. Live music is such a great touch to anything. What I definitely enjoyed about this particular experience is the rolling carts that they have. They have a rolling cart to bring you various little appetizers that you can choose from or want to make your own crostini ? You can do that with the rolling cart and then they have a rolling cart for dessert. The drinks were also super good as well and I had no complaints when it came to those! This was a well-balanced and cohesive drink--delicious, smooth, and you barely taste the alcohol. Golden Ratio ($19): Tequila, passion fruit, lychee. The lychee and passion fruit flavors stand out, followed by a subtle tequila finish. We started off with 2 amazing salads , the romaine lettuce wedges but skipped the anchovy dressing and did this amazing balsamic w cheese dressing and the Beet with goat cheese Wow both were winners ! Went during marathon weekend to try their pri fixe menu and it took me by surprise! As a table, we tried a variety of different dishes: Starters: 1. The arugula and goat cheese salad 2. Seared Ahi Tuna: the tuna had a perfect thin layer of sear around it and it was a generous serving size with great seasoning. Entree: smaller portion size, but with the starter and dessert, a reasonable portion. 1. Tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce 2. Braised short rib ravioli with candied walnuts and cacio e pepe 3. Garganelli with asparagus, tomatoes in cream sauce Dessert: 1. Flourless chocolate cake: was (again) generous in size and just as rich and decadent one would want for a flourless chocolate cake. We were very unhappy with the food at The Albert. We ordered the mussels appetizer, and they were the worst we have ever had. They were extremely chewy. I had the Cioppino, and every item was chewy and tasteless, possibly overdone! My wife had the Sea Bass which was also very bland and chewy, not juicy as most sea bass she has had elsewhere. We do better sea bass at home. The service was good but could not overcome the poor quality of the food. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

Great food and outstanding desserts here at the Albert! We started with the Burrata ($19), which was highly recommended by the waitress. After having it, I would also recommend it! The burrata was burrata-ing, the roasted tomatoes and balsamic brought some sweetness and umami, and the crispy prosciutto was a lot like bacon! It comes with crispy flatbread on the side, which honestly looked like matzah and a bit underwhelming, but to my pleasant surprise, it complemented everything very nicely! For our mains, we both got pasta. My co-worker really enjoyed their Tagliatelle ($28). I ordered the Stracci ($34) and it was solid. The noodles were wide, thin, and had a perfect chew, but I wish there was more lamb in there given that it's the priciest pasta dish on the menu! The highlight for me absolutely was the dessert. It can be so hard nowadays to find good desserts at restaurants!!!! No, I do not want grapefruit semifreddo!!! Nor do I want chocolate pot de creme!!!! I just want a nice, comforting, elevated basic, like a cake, or a cookie, or a pie -- I don't think that's too much to ask for! And it was not too much for the Albert, because they delivered! We split both the Olive Oil Cake ($12) and the Chocolate Souffle Cake ($14). While I'm not usually one to split dessert, you kind of have to at the Albert because these were hugeeee. And oh so tasty!!!!!! The Olive Oil Cake was spongy, moist, rustic, perfectly sweet, and perfect with the cream. It reminded me of a Betty Crocker yellow cake, in the best way #nostalgia #elevatedbasic. The Chocolate Souffle Cake had the most interesting crumb, dense yet fluffy, and a lovely chocolate flavor. The berries and cream were a fantastic complement. Another comparison to a "low-brow" dessert for you: it kind of reminded me of this Kroger private-labeled chocolate cake I'd eat as a kid #nostalgia #elevatedbasic. As you can probably tell, I recommend you get dessert here, especially as the value is the best on the menu. All in all, we enjoyed our experience at the Albert. Traveling for work, I took a seat at the bar for dinner. Bartender provided accurate recommendations for food. Very quiet evening, only 3-4 other parties in the whole restaurant. Food was good but not outstanding (I had a beet salad which was meh, and a recommended pasta dish which was also just good--particularly given the $$$$). Portions were modest. I've eaten here several times since my first review, and have stayed at the amazing hotel (to be reviewed separately). Since that time I've had multiple other dishes, sides, and drinks, including the tagliatelle, the layered potato torte, and several other cocktails. The food and drinks are awesome--the service is better. I've had three different servers and they all been wonderful. And Michael, whom I think is an ambassador for the restaurant, remembered me from previous visits and treated me like royalty. My business in Chicago is coming to an end, but I'm sure I'll return--this will likely be my go-to hotel and restaurant forevermore. read more

The food was awful! The ambience was nice, but it didn't make up for the fact that I left the restaurant hungry. We ordered the orichiette (sp?) and sea bass because the waiter recommended them, but the pasta tasted like burnt garlic and the fish was almost tasteless and served on some cold squash and Swiss chard greens that together were watery but at the same time seemed soaked in butter. Normally butter makes everything better, but not in this case. Just wasted calories. I predicted that I wouldn't like the squash and greens so I asked if they could substitute polenta, which I like, and the chef refused. I've never had a chef at this caliber of restaurant refuse to do anything so simple. The polenta came with the lamb so they definitely had it available and it wouldn't have been any more expensive to make. We should have just ordered desserts which looked delicious. Overall, disappointing. Overpriced and unsatisfying. Maybe a good place to grab a drink since they had a full bar. But neither I, nor my date, drink alcohol. Might decide to go back for the cake but a little afraid to take another risk at this point. The staff seemed nice but they need a new chef if they want to attract normal foodie customers that like flavorful elegant or just tasty and comforting food. There are 30 other restaurants in Chicago that make better pasta and seafood dishes. Go there! read more

This was a pretty meh experience. The hotel and the restaurant has a super unique look to it which I definitely liked. We had reservations and were seated immediately. We started with cocktails and the burrata. My cocktail was their take on the aperol spritz, which I really enjoyed. The burrata was tasty and came with some yummy chips. For my main course, I went with their dry rub wings and a side of fries. The wings were super bland, and the fries were okay. It was super underwhelming. The food is truly subpar. My companion had a broiled Romaine salad that was so heavily doused in dressing that it was completely soggy. I had the cioppino, which tasted old, like a seafood stew sitting around for hours. We were not expecting a refund, but mentioned to the server that the food was inedible. But step in, and you're greeted by a decor twist: shelves upon shelves of books, almost like a mini library, probably there for med students from Northwestern to flip through, right? It's a decent spot to grab a bite if you're nearby, maybe working or studying. The food is average--nothing special, pretty much what you'd expect at any typical American restaurant. Partner found ths place to celebrate our anniversary and it was a great experience. It's a restaurant on the bottom floor of a boutique hotel and it had lots of charm and character. The staff left us a nice signed card on the table when we arrived and provided excellent service the entire night. All of the food we ordered were delicious and had its own unique flavors that we enjoyed. The lobster ravioli was our favorite, but honestly I enjoyed each of our dishes. I wouldn't hesitate to get any of them again. Prices are a tad higher for the dinner entrees but can't complain for the solid food, service and dining experience. We were comped an anniversary dessert at the end too! It's nice to find some hidden gems that aren't overly crowded and I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a new experience! read more

We were a 10+ person group dining at the Albert. Some of the food was fine--the burrata with blueberries and pistachio, for example. The sea bass entree was tasty but greasy. But other dishes were inedible. One person left over his entire ravioli dish. It was like some pasta in a bowl is cream soup. And the vegetarian pasta dish sat nearly untouched. We didn't even know what it was but it was square shaped like it had been over baked in a casserole dish. The cocktails were very good. The cheese tray was nice. I think I mainly had cheese for dinner. Oh and the brussel sprouts were dripping in honey and grease. The asparagus had another thick, creamy sauce that covered the actual taste of asparagus but it was edible. I can't recommend coming here. And during dinner, I learned from hotel guests that they had been waiting at the restaurant that morning without anyone taking their order. They finally got up and left after being told numerous times someone would be "right with them." I would just say stay away. Chicago has better places, like Beatrix for breakfast or dinner. read more

I ended up eating here while staying at the EMC2 attached hotel. The Cioppino (pictured) was very good with the sole and scallops being cooked perfectly. The rest of the dish was pretty choppy with varying sizes of vegetables and doneness of said vegetables. The bread was chewy. I also had the garlic cheese bread as a side. It was very subpar with the cheese coming out cold and unflavorful. The Vesvius cocktail was decent, but ultimately just a smoked old fashioned that cost too much ($18). I ended up having breakfast here the next day. I got the egg bake and it was not very good. It had no sausage in it and the egg/parmesan was overcooked. The base was overpowering and the dish was underwhelming. The cheesy hashbrowns were a block that was probably heated up from frozen. The servers were good and the ambiance was unique and interesting. However the food was subpar. read more

The food preparation in the dinner menu is extremely poor, truly disappointing. We started by ordering the beet salad (arugula, a ton of RAW chopped onion and a few bites of beets topped with goat cheese... yes, raw onions... very unpalatable. Followed by "baked" shrimp which were swimming in oil and extremely spicy chili sauce, again another unappealing and inedible offering. The hummus was ok, but truly nothing special, hence the reason for two stars (and not 1). Their chefs need to revisit their cooking, the menu and make it match the guests expectations, otherwise I'd suggest not to waste your time and money. It has become obvious that the chefs are very unprofessional and lazy (birth morning and evening chefs)... an unfortunate situation because the restaurant's floor staff is beyond wonderful. read more

Ate here while spending a day in Chicago. It was up the street from my hotel so I just went. It was restaurant week during the time (early march) so they had a 3 course deal going on. I got the tuna tartar app which was so delicious. The 4 cheese ravioli (either 3 or 4 cheese can't remember) for entree also delicious. And flourless chocolate cake for dessert also so delicious. I also got the truffle fries side and lemon elderflower vodka lemonade drink. Literally everything was delicious. I cleaned every plate and left no crumbs. I was full after everything I ordered. I think the sizes were smaller for that special menu but idk. If that was the regular size of the ravioli and I had just ordered that it would not fill me up. There was a band playing for a bit and that was nice. The whole restaurant is a cute spot, definitely think I'd stop by again for a quick bite.
