Late of my review for Petterino's Restaurant Week menu, but overall it was a solid experience. The menu offered a nice variety of options, which made it easy to find something appealing for each course. My girlfriend and I decided to choose different items for each other to get a variety. The portions were huge for a prix-fixe menu. The appetizers were the most enjoyable and left the biggest impression on me. Calabrese Shrimp & Meatball was fantastic. For the main course, Frutti di Mare was more enjoyable than the steak. It was lacking more flavor. Dessert was a meh. I felt like the tiramisu wasn't moist enough, more on the drier side for my preference. The presentation was nice, and everything came out at a good pace. The service was attentive and professional. The atmosphere was lively and comfortable, making it a good spot for a casual girls night out. Overall, Petterino's Restaurant Week menu was a good value and a pleasant dining experience.

Second time going to Petterinos before a show with the family and we are still so happy that we found this restaurant! It's super easy to make a reservation for even a table of six, just call in advanced and they'll book it for you and your confirmation will go through on opentable. Huge restaurant, quick service, and super cute front bar area. We love all the caricatures throughout. Food is exceptional, here are our favorites: -Rigatoni Alla Vodka: Add chicken but holy crap this is delicious. The rigatoni noodles are gigantic too. -Short Rib Pappardelle: We ordered two dishes and they were a huge hit, they were wiped clean -Bucatini alla puttanesca: Perfect for red sauce lovers who want a more bitter profile (olives, capers, anchovies) -Panna Cotta: Good and easy to share Two orders we were not impressed with: -Steak frites: The hand cut fries are wonderful but there's something weird about the sauce. This is the second time we ordered it and for some reason we are not fans. The Gorgonzola butter is jarring for us. -Brownie Sundae: Comes out cold :( please warm this up for people in future. It just wasn't that good sadly compared to the reset of the food.

Definitely an old school gem. When you walk in you can't help but to see the caricatures on the wall of so many famous people. Seems like a lot of people come here after work. The bar was full but we were able to get drinks while we waited for a table. They make a great old fashion and Manhattan. We just ordered appetizers once we were seated because we just wanted a bite before going to a concert. I order the tomato bisque and the meatballs. My friend had the crab cakes and I forget what soup she had. The tomato bisque was delicious my friend's crab cake was fresh. My only complaint is I had to send the meatballs back because they were cold but once they came back warm they were delicious just needed to add a small amount of salt and pepper to my liking.

Really excited to have stumbled upon Petterino's for a bite after seeing Hamilton. Lucky to have gotten there when we did since about 20minutes later it was packed with people coming from or going to other shows! I would highly recommend a reservation. We got a great seat near the bar, the service was quick and very friendly. Someone who I assume was the manager was wandering around checking in and chatting with everyone which was nice. The food was absolutely delicious and very fresh - great Italian food. I got the Rigatoni Vodka, we also got the Burrata Special and my dad got the Meatballs. Everything was wonderful, I would definitely go back and highly recommend. The location near all of the theaters is great!

We wanted to come here a few weeks ago when we were in town for a show, but we didn't plan in advance and they had nothing available prior to showtime. This time I planned ahead and still had to make reservations for 4:15, which was a little early for a 7 pm show. As it turns out, it was perfect. Though the restaurant wasn't completely packed when we arrived, it was certainly busy. I considered us lucky to get a table at all, even on a Sunday. I had to wait in line just to let them know we had arrived. Once I made it to the front of the line, we were quickly seated at a nice booth. The restaurant walls are covered with caricatures of famous people, mostly local I'm guessing. The red, white, black and wood tone decor was tasteful. The restaurant felt fancy and comfortable all at the same time. Our server Heidi was cool and chill. Her vibe was as comfortable as the decor. She made us feel at home, which was easy for my friend who lives in Chicago! We started off with three appetizers. We ordered Shrimp Cocktail - four plump, beautiful shrimp. We had the Crab Cake, which was more than enough to share and it came with a decent sized salad. This could be a meal. Finally we had Arancini - Fried risotto balls, fontina cheese, prosciutto chip and marinara. I found this appetizer to be absolutely delicious. If we come back, ordering Arancini will be a must. We all went with pasta for our main meal. I had Short Rib Pappardelle - Homemade herbed pappardelle, slow cooked short rib ragu, Parmesan cheese. It was delicious, but after three appetizers I found it to be more than I could finish. The serving was heavy with short rib meat and it was all very delicious. The pasta was perfectly cooked. I took a bite of my friend's Rigatoni with Bolognese Sauce. This was not on the menu, but prepared as requested. It was good, but mine was much better. Mark had Spaghetti and Meatballs (3), which was another meal not on the menu. Heidi did a great job of making sure we had exactly what we desired. As full as we were, two of us opted for dessert. David had Panna Cotta - Nutella|Crème Anglais|White Chocolate|Berries. It was beautiful and pretty tasty, but not as good as my salted caramel gelato. The Panna Cotta was small compared to my gelato. There were three big scoops in my serving. It was a lot, which I appreciated. And it was absolutely delicious, which I appreciated even more. Soooo... we arrived right around 4:15 and we didn't leave until after 6:00. We were there a LONG time and, as busy as they were, we were never rushed. Timing ended up being perfect. There are a lot of restaurants in the area for a pre-show dinner. We'd come back to Petterinos without hesitation.

I was downtown for Jury Duty and stumbled across this small & cute coffee shop on Dearborn. The coffee shop is apart of the restaurant. Located right across the street from The Daley Plaza. The decor inside is s pretty and full of color. A mini outside patio to sit out and enjoy the weather. The menu options have a variety selections of pastries, breakfast sandwiches, coffee, lattes, and other tasty treats. The service was cool and prices were suitable.

Four Cheese Ravioli

The ambience is very cool. Our waiter was very helpful and he advised on great drinks which I had a Sicilian margarita so so good we also had the four cheese ravioli and the fried calamari that was really good. Very fresh and crisp. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly all the staff was very pleasant as when I was waiting to be seated. A gentleman tried to go off on the host and turns out he was wrong and she remained friendly and kind to him the entire time.

Food was ok, certainly not the best Italian food in Chicago but it was lively and the decor was great. Disclaimer, we came here after a show at the Goodman theater because they offered a free prosecco toast, the prosecco was decent. Had a few apps: arancini was solid and the sauce was delicious. The calamari tasted like it was premade and quickly reheated, the breading wasn't all that crispy and easily fell off. The chicken Caesar salad had good flavors but the cold chicken was a little offputting In total paid around $75 for the three apps including tax and tips, which felt pretty overpriced for what we got

Had an early lunch before seeing a matinee! Amazing service. The restaurant was very busy, but our server took our cues, placing our salad order first, even splitting it on different plates when we said we were going to share. My steak frites was 4/5, I'd probably try the pasta next time, my friend ordered one and was drooling. Great wine selection, and the cocktails also looked fab.

Rigatoni alla vodka with chicken.
Donna T.

I went here before a show at the theater on a Sat afternoon. Super convenient location. I sat at the bar. I ordered the Rigatoni alla vodka with chicken. It was just ok. Not a lot of flavor without the cheese. I paired it with a Sangiovese which was on sale due to the Olympics and very good. I heard a different bar tender tell an elderly women it was only on sale during happy hour but the bar sign does not say that so I would double check with a manager. I love how the hostess stand has a sign with all the current shows.

Came here for Chicago restaurant week and enjoyed every second of it. The food was absolutely delicious and so filling. I really liked the shrimp, risotto, and branzino. The tiramisu was also delicious. I would recommend this place for small and large parties. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated with lots of seating. The staff are all very friendly as well

TLDR: mediocre food and drinks...but great service! Definitely tourist trap. We came here before our Magic Parlour show (which was PHENOMENAL) to get an early dinner. We sat down, looked at the menu, looked around, and nothing really looked/sounded great. So we ordered a drink and some appies. The arancini was actually not bad but the burrata was pretty mediocre. I didn't even know burrata could be mediocre but there it was. The worst part was that our drinks were pretty awful. My Gin Ricky had (what tasted like) limeaid in it... and his Negroni was just not balanced and oddly sweet. Listen, we both cherish alcohol and we would never do this lightly--but we had to leave our drinks unfinished!! Do what you will with that info. I think Olive Garden would be comparable to this place. Our server was very friendly and sweet though. She was on top of things and helpful! So she gets 5 stars for that!

Steak Frites*
Maya O.

Petterino's was a really solid experience overall, especially as a pre-theater spot. The food hit most of the right notes. The rigatoni vodka was solid, comforting, reliable, exactly what you want from that dish. The burrata was great, fresh, creamy, a strong way to start the meal. I ordered the steak frites & I gotta say the cheese wasn't necessary for me, but now I know to get it without next time. The steak itself was well cooked, the fries were good, just better without the extra layer. The space feels classic, lively, & buzzy without being overwhelming, which makes it perfect before a show when you want energy but not chaos. Service was efficient, friendly, & very used to the pre-theater crowd, which kept everything moving smoothly without feeling rushed. Overall, a dependable, enjoyable spot that does what it's supposed to do. A great choice before a show when you want solid food, good vibes, & an easy experience.

What is the dress code?

I'd say casual to dressy. Either would be fine.

Are reservations for a weekday lunch recommended/required?

It never hurts to make a reservation. I know a lot of business people that use Petterino's for business lunches during the week so a reservation would be smart. I'm sure you could get in without one but it's always a good call to make one.

Is there valet parking for Saturday brunch?

Yes

It felt like an old school Italian eatery and the dining room just kept going with booths and plenty of other tables. Our server was absolutely incredible (I think her name was Sierra?). She informed me of all the amazing gluten free options I could enjoy including the corn bread, sushi (gluten free soy sauce, yay!), and pasta. This menu is surprisingly vast for my gluten free foodies out there. The corn bread is something I'd add to my last meal on Earth. It was warm, fluffy, with a crispy cheese top and honey butter. I need the recipe ASAP. The caesar salad made with potato chips instead of croutons was f*cking genius. I wish I had thought of it! The steak frites, although small, were expertly seasoned with a herb crust that didn't negatively affect the juicy and tender cook on the steak. So, so, so good. The vodka rigatoni was the best vodka sauce I've ever had. I must crack the code on how they do it -- I've been thinking about this dish ever since. It was smooth, with small chunks of tomato and a nice kick. Although I didn't get to eat the lobster roll in its true form due to the roll, I enjoyed bits of the lobster on the accompanying potato chips and almost lost my mind. So fresh. The sushi roll was maybe my least favorite thing we tried but it was still good so that's saying something about the rest of the food. It just felt like such a novelty to have all the other dishes we did PLUS sushi, so we had to indulge. I mean, what other place is doing that?! We were all totally blown away. I recommend booking in advance for a larger party as reservations fill up weeks in advance and the wait can be long for walk-ins. Thanks for a terrific, gluten-free friendly meal that I'll be thinking about for a LOOOONG time!

I had the single cheeseburger and it lived up to the hype. I learned that the single burger is actually a double and the double is actually a triple. I was recommended to add an egg and bacon to the burger and I'm glad I did. Each bite was a glorious burst of flavor. The bacon is epic. Thick juicy slices. The cheeseburger was perfect. I didn't need additional condiments and that never happens for me. The fries were good too and came with a delicious aioli. For beverages, I loved my Arnold Palmer. I also tried a cocktail--the Long Island Iced Coffee. It was pretty strong. I added a shot of bourbon cream to it and that sweetened it up and made it perfect for me. Unfortunately, I didn't have room for dessert. Cute restaurant. Cozy inside. They have an outdoor patio as well. If you don't have a reservation, be prepared to wait. Excellent food. The process of getting seated through a busy period, and the service throughout was excellent. But as often happens with me, the food didn't live up to the hype. My wife and I were picking up my brother and his son from O'Hare at around 10 am on a Saturday. We had dinner plans with our uncle, but had not planned anything in between. The flight came in on time, and once confirmed we all had the time, my brother suggested going to Chicago to try Au Cheval. He knew about their location LV, but none of us had tried their original location in Chicago. So we drove into Chicago, arriving at the restaurant at 11 (it opens at 10am). There was a check-in stand set-up outside, where someone was taking names/phone numbers to put on the waiting list. We were quoted a 45 minute wait, and got the text to hurry back after about 30 minutes. There was a line to put your name down on the list, so we skipped that by going right in. The friendly hostess seated us in a booth, with a nice view of the kitchen where they were making the burgers in mass. The waitress explained that a single burger meant two patties (each patty is 4 oz, so basically a half pound burger), and a double meaning three. My brother and his son both ordered a double cheeseburger ($19.99 each), and I got a single with added sunny side up egg ($21.48). I wanted my wife to be able to take a bite, so asked for everything to be on the side (sauce, dill pickle slices, and grilled onion bits). We also ordered french fries ($8.99), cooked in duck fat. In the meanwhile, followed a fellow yelpers suggestion and got two Allagash Whites ($9 each) for me and my nephew. It's a really good beer that I've had many times during happy hour, and goes great with rich, greasy food. My wife got something else: the General Janes Chicken, which is their version of Korean Fried Chicken ($24.98). She enjoyed it (the coating was still crispy, and the sauce had that pronounced kochujang flavor that we like). Everything is a la carte here (except for the complementary pickle spear with burgers), so she shared in the ordered fries. Food came out together and was served hot. There is a mandatory 3.25% surcharge, and payment is taken at the table. As mentioned, service was excellent throughout. To be honest, I'm not the right person to judge a burger like this (I like it backyard style, with a lot of lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles...and mayo/ketchup). But my brother and nephew are (they have tried many, many burgers all across the world, and don't like too much toppings on their burger), and they said the burger was just OK for them. I liked the frites (cooked in duck fat)...very light in color, but still crispy on the outside. However, nobody else really ate them, saying they weren't great. It's unusual for me to be the least critical after dining, but I'm sure it had something to do with the observation that I didn't have to pay for it (since it was my brother's treat).

Once we got seated, our server took our order relatively quickly and we ordered the House made for Kasha with a goat cheese and honey topping, the grilled octopus appetizer, and because we were enjoying our conversation so much we ended up just skipping Wright to dessert and ordering the gooey butter cake. For a light meal, this was relatively satisfactory. Our server said they come to the octopus because we waited so long, so it was nice that the staff was acknowledging that we waited a little bit for our table and we're willing to compensate us. Be sure to make your reservation in advance because you will not be seated without one due to its popularity among both locals and tourists. We come here every time we visit Chicagoat. The food is absolutely amazing. We had the following dishes: 1. Roasted Pig Face Straw fries topped with roasted pork face, a sunny egg, and a collection of magical sauces that somehow transform into pure comfort when mixed together. I don't even know exactly what's in the sauce, but I don't need to know. This dish is divine and an absolute must-order. The crispy fries, rich and tender pork that practically melts apart, silky egg yolk, and savory sauce create a dish that is indulgent, comforting, and ridiculously delicious 2. Green Beans Not featured in the photo because we ate them too fast. Enough said. Get them. 3. Goat Mousse The menu changes periodically, so this was a new dish for us. The goat mousse was creamy, rich, and surprisingly light, served with sweet jam, crumpets, crackers, pickles, and giardiniera. The contrast of sweet, tangy, creamy, crunchy, and savory flavors creates a little flavor party in your mouth. Every bite can be customized differently, which made this dish especially fun to share. 4. Pork Belly & Watermelon Perfectly cooked pork belly with a crisp exterior and rich, savory flavor, balanced beautifully by refreshing watermelon cubes and fresh greens. I don't know how healthy it is, but we aren't here for health. We're here for flavor. We're here for comfort. We're here to be punched in the soul with food that we will never forget! The sweet, juicy watermelon cuts through the richness of the pork belly and creates a combination that sounds unusual but works incredibly well. 5. Halibut with Thai Sprouts A beautifully cooked piece of halibut served with Thai sprouts, miso marcona butter, and blueberry fish sauce. Yes, blueberry fish sauce. And yes, it works. The fish was flaky, buttery, and perfectly cooked. The savory umami from the miso butter paired with the subtle sweetness and acidity from the fish sauce created a combination that was balanced, and memorable yet surprising to me. The restaurant itself has a dark, energetic atmosphere and is always packed. The pork was incredibly tender but it seemed like there were too many conflicting flavors and nothing seemed to shine. The pickled onions conflicted against the overly sweet pork. It was better by itself but we were told to make our own "tacos" with the pita or lettuce and combine everything The service was great which is why I gave this place 3* instead of a 2* for the food. Unfortunately I will not be coming back. It now makes sense why this time it was far easier to make a reservation than last time.

I came here over the weekend with my family to celebrate my graduation, and the server named Cat was AMAZING! She made me feel so special at my graduation brunch through her hospitality, witty remarks, easy-going humor, and attentiveness to her clients. If I were her manager, I would give Cat a raise because of how much she elevated the experience and excels at what she does. Additionally, the food was fantastic! The pull-apart bread was so delicious and something I would 100% come back for, as well as the short rib hash, which was flavorful and tender. The ambiance was perfect for a sunny day with a mild temperature, making it the perfect brunch spot. Once again, I cannot emphasize enough how much Cat made our time at Oakville so special. Thank you, Cat, for being so wonderful at your job and going above and beyond to make my special day even more special. 10/10 would definitely come back!!!

It looked like my coworkers enjoyed their burgers. Drinks were refilled in a timely manner. Definitively a consistent place for our team to come back to.
