Came here for a team dinner and thought it was a great spot for a group. The space is really roomy with plenty of TVs around, so I could also see it being a fun place to catch a game. I started with the Figget About It cocktail, which was delicious and dangerously easy to drink. Definitely my favorite part of the meal. For my entree, I ordered the braised short rib. While the flavor was decent, the meat ended up being a bit dry. Service was smooth overall, and both the drinks and food came out at a good pace. The food and vibes here are completely okay - but nothing special. This is not the place you want to go to get a real feeling for what Chicago dining is, or can be. This isn't a unique dining room, a special menu, or anything all that exciting. Is it fine for a decent dinner, or corporate event, sure, that is really what the purpose of this venue appears to be. I would book a corporate event in here and be very pleased with the steak, greek salad, and yummy desserts. Service is kind and helpful, but not polished and sexy. Came here for lunch and it was quite delicious. Had a business trip to Chicago and this was near my work place and recommended by a coworker. It wasn't busy for lunch when we went at 11:00, however, it started getting busy at 12:00. My coworker recommended the Rueben. And it was delicious. It was hearty. The pastrami wasn't thin sliced, it was thick cut and I've never seen it made that way, but it was good. The sauerkraut was good too. The side of fries were delicious. Stopped by for lunch while visiting Chicago and the beautiful Marquette building. Was happy to find a place for a quick lunch that wasn't completely deep-fried. They had vegetarian options and were also able to adapt for my friend and my gluten intolerances. There were several things that sounded great to me, but I went with the falafel, and instead of a sandwich they put it in a bowl- it was delicious with a great pairing and veggies and sauce- yum! Came with fries but was told those are not gf so got the sweet potato fries instead and they were great- a thicker cut and a great aioli dipping sauce. My friend enjoyed her soup and fries too. My travels brought me to Chicago and various twist of fate brought me to The Marq. My friends and I started with the aguachile - which was a fantastic combination of avocado, cucumber, shrimp, shallots, mixed into some amazing salsas. Served with housemaid tortilla chips, I am totally glad that our server recommended this. Light, well presented, and flavorful, it was an excellent indicator of what was to come. The other starter that we ordered was the charcuterie. Not much to say here as it's hard to do anything particularly innovative or creative with a charcuterie. It looked fantastic, though. I ordered the steak frites which definitely exceeded my expectations. It was among the most tender and flavorful cuts of hanger steak I have ever had. Cooked to the perfect temperature, it did not need either the chimichurri or the Bernaise, which were served on the side. That being said, the chimichurri was a bit bland, and the Bernaise was a bit watery further emphasizing how well this steak performed on its own. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. A perfect complement to the steak. The wine list was a bit underwhelming, but there were decent options at very reasonable prices. Our server, was amazing instruct the perfect balance of attentiveness while allowing me and my friends to catch up with each other with minimal interruption. The inside of the restaurant was vibrant, but incredibly loud. Our hostess was too kind to give us some outdoor seating, which was perfect for having a conversation despite missing out on some of the awesome ambience on the inside. To be honest, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect since there were a number of reviews giving very mixed opinions but I was very pleased with the experience and do not regret my relatively random decision to have dinner here with my friends. read more

A great restaurant to try! I had their carnitas tacos with sweet potato fries which was very good! The carnitas tacos was very good, tender, and juicy and all of the ingredients were fresh. It wasn't too oily. I loved the green sauce and red onions with it. The staff nicely let me replaced the side of beans with sweet potato fries instead. The fries were good and crispy. The sweet potato fries were a bit salty, which tastes away the "sweet" potato fries quality. The service was great though. Very nice and helpful staff. The food did not take long to make. They were able to accommodate our party with a baby! Once inside there were other celebrations going on (it was a Friday night). We actually picked this place for the salmon options but by the time we arrived (around 730p) they were out of salmon! The large party of twenty or so near us had some salmon florentine orders. Fried Chicken Bites Has a nice spice level, where you can feel the heat on your tongue while not being overpowering. The flour batter was well seasoned and appreciated. Double battered, which made the crust way too thick for the thickness of the chicken, more breading than anything that detracted from the dish. Additionally the combination of over frying and the double breading resulted in the chicken being on the drier side. A single coating of flour would've been better. Good presentation and the shredded Parmesan cheese on top was a good touch. Flan More of a cheesecake than a traditional flan, which is more custard like. Great presentation. For it being more of cheesecake it was smooth, and the strawberry mousse added to smoothing out the density of the dessert. All in all it was very good. Service The service was terrible. I observed the server provide better service to all of his adjoining tables and for myself those same services took longer or were not provided. From my table not being bussed after I was finished, before the next item arrived. To my credit card being carried by the server all over the restaurant instead of immediately charging and returning it to my possession. Extremely odd behavior. Really enjoyed our meal here! The pasta stood out with its ideal al dente bite, complemented by a creamy, indulgent cheese sauce. Everyone was complimentary of the food and drinks. We made reservations at this restaurant for about 30 people. It was awesome because we were able to enjoy a great meal, each other's company, and had no problems splitting the bill. They were able to split the bill between us all and processed all of our credit cards individually (Google wallet tap and apple pay too). The appetizers alone were amazing and we ate every bite. We were so full by the time the main entree came that I had to take most of it home. Here's what we got and my thoughts on them. Appetizers: *Carnitas nachos - the chips were amazing. I think they were made in house they were crispy and delicious with the most delicious nacho cheese. *Hummus - the bread alone was so delicious and you add that hummus and it was *chef kiss. * babaganoush - it was better than I thought it would be. I actually ate some. Not my favorite appetizer but I still thought it was pretty good. Entrees: *Marq burger - didn't get to try but my friend enjoyed it. * fish N chips - didn't get to try but half our group got it and they seemed to enjoy it. * carnitas tacos - I didn't enjoy it as much as the nachos because it had no cheese, but it was pretty good. It came with pickled red onions and jalapenos. *southwest salad with pulled chicken - delicious. My friend gave me some and I ate it all. Refreshing and has these little chips in there. Desert: *Cannoli - wasn't my thing. It wasn't sweet and it had pistachios on it. * chocolate mousse shooters - it was pretty good. Soft and gooey when you use the spoon it came with but not soft enough to use a straw with (yes, we tried). If you like chocolate you will like this. Came here on my very last day of my trip in Chicago! I wanted a simple brunch place that was within walking distance of my hotel (this is surrounded by a couple of other large hotels in the area, so great location for the traveler)! The interior was aesthetic and clean but I opted to eat outdoors since the weather was so wonderful. I generally like simple breakfasts but wanted something heavier to tide me through the flight home, so I ordered the Bacon and Cheese Omelette! The balance with the gouda, swiss and cheddar was just so perfectly proportional without being overly cheesy and overwhelming. The bacon added a variety of texture which worked with all the gooey cheesy goodness and the eggs were fluffy and filling! The Southwest Pico de Gallo also added a variety of flavor and had a little kick to break through all of the eggs and cheese. Needless to say, I was a fan of this omelet! I also had a nice iced coffee to compliment the omelet and the warm weather and it certainly did its job kicking me awake! Service was quick and friendly! I noticed there was only one server for both inside and outside of the restaurant and he was doing his best to accommodate everyone in a timely manner! I was still able to have my water filled and everything I ordered despite that. Would visit again! This was my second time at The Marq. I was ultimately surprised by how much I enjoyed the Short Rib Birria. It was very juicy and easy to dig into. I would suggest getting this dish if you'd like to try something new! Additionally, the server was very attentive and made sure we were cared for. The only drawback was the limited seating outside. What a perfect place to have dinner with a group of your colleagues! After an weeknight event downtown a group of 10 of my colleagues, including myself, were pretty hungry. Enter The Marq, which is conveniently located downtown and has something on the menu for everyone, with modern American fare and a modern feel and full bar. We made a reservation for 8:15pm and were seated promptly. Service was super - the owner is also incredibly nice -- and we ordered right away. With how big our group was, we tried almost everything on the menu and everything was tasty. I really enjoyed my steak and roasted potatoes. It's typically hard to get a table for 10, but The Marq is great for groups! Not to mention, we felt it was incredible value. Did I mention they serve breakfast, lunch snd dinner? The Marq is a good place to come following work for a drink or to meet up with an old friend. This establishment is relaxed and the service is super quick. I tried their boneless wings, hummus tray and pull pork nachos. I also indulged in the blueberry Cadillac for a cocktail and it did not disappoint. The wings were great sizes and they weren't too bready. The flavors were standard and the chicken wasn't dry. The hummus was top tier. Super creamy and favorable and their pita bread is legit. It's not hard or too soft. It was cooked/ prepared perfectly. I'd recommend this app to any vegan or non vegan. Their nachos were actually made correctly. Most places will pile high their chips and dump their toppings leaving you with inconsistency as you go through the chips. At The Marq, they layered it correctly. Each bite was filled with the toppings and it wasn't heavy on the stomach. My cocktail was amazing and I recommend that for your whiskey lovers but also for those who want to try dark liquor but don't want to really taste it. read more

The Marq is a good go-to spot for business lunches downtown. The menu is pretty basic as it has all the familiar menu items you'll see at most restaurants or even at a sports bar. Along with the menu, the restaurant lacks decor and ambiance but has a nice centerpiece as the bar. The only decorations in the restaurant are big screen TVs (no sound) along the walls, featuring sports highlights and the news. The front of the restaurant has hightop tables that can comfortably seat six people or eight tightly. Towards the back of the restaurant you'll find tables that seat two and four people. On my visit with a group of work colleagues, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich on Ciabatta bread instead of a brioche bun--and suggest you do the same. The pulled pork was served lukewarm and flavorful but in that standard kind of way....the spices didn't linger after a bite nor did the taste. Two colleagues ordered Caesar salads with chicken and both complained the salad had too much dressing. However, they commented on the chicken to salad ratio being perfect. I can see The Marq hitting the mark for tourists or work travelers looking to grab a familiar meal after a long day of walking or working. I ordered the carnitas griddle, which was great, but it was more of a sweet than savory flavored meet. It wasn't bad, just different. Served over cubed and baked potatoes along with pickled onion, and under a fried egg, this griddle was pretty good. I ordered Noah something a little less ambitious, a commuter breakfast sandwich. I went with the English muffin instead of the croissant. Supper fluffy egg, cheese and bacon sandwich...simple but delicious. Did I mention the fluffiness factor of the egg(s)? The coffee was great.
