I wanted to have a nice family dinner on the riverwalk and opted for this spot and I'm so glad I did! Food was exceptional with great flavor and fair pricing. I got the Porterhouse Burger and patty was thick and it had a good sauce in it keeping it moist and not dry. My dad got the filet mignon sliders, and I think those were the best things on the table. Sliders had whole pieces of filet mignon as the patty instead of a ground up filet mignon + it came with truffle fries, which were delicious. Service was great, although we did have to pay a required 20% for having a party of six or more. But I do appreciate that our server still gave us amazing service regardless of the automatic fee. There is also a 3% fee added to your check that you could ask to get removed with no problem. Ambience was great. We were able to get a same-day reservation and table next to the window to see the Riverwalk while we were eating dinner. The only issue is I dined in in July 2026 and there's a lot of construction going on on the Riverwalk, causing us to need to take a pretty big detour up and around the restaurant to access instead of going through the bridge and stairs on Riverwalk. They have an amazing view that can be enjoyed at any time of the day, we went during the afternoon hours to enjoy cocktails and some bites. The drinks were fine and the food was delicious, I really enjoyed the cauliflower dish, it was tasty and something different. The crab cakes were good but the portion size left me wanting more than what was given. I loooooved my experience here! I have to say that this is definitely a place I'd go back to! To start, we were definitely welcomed with a friendly greeting and a smile. That started off the experience really good! Also, they had plenty of seating outside, so we were able to snag an outside table which made the experience that much more enjoyable. I'd say our waitress was okay - she wasn't too friendly or anything, but she did okay. I think it was the lack of being personable but she was probably pretty busy since it was a full house that night and I didn't see many people working the outside. For the drinks; I had the classic mojito and it was very good/refreshing. It didn't taste "fake" and actually tasted like it was made super fresh! Others at our table had a margarita, a watermelon mojito and then an old fashioned. Everyone loved their drinks! For the food; we ordered the crab cakes, brussel sprout salad, ceasar salad, pull apart bread and the sourdough bread with whipped ricotta and my oh my, 0 complaints! My favorite was definitely the brussel sprout salad and the crab cakes but all were very good. The brussel sprout salad had a spice to it and I've never had a spicy brussel sprout before so it was a very unique flavor. For my actual entree, I her the brick chicken with potato's and that was very good - so good that the skin on the chicken, slid right off. It was so juicy and cooked perfectly. When you eat it with the arugula and then with a little bite of potato, the combination of flavors is just too good. The bar staff included a slice of lemon with my Diet Coke and I appreciated that touch because I love lemon with my Diet Coke. For my entree, I ordered the Gem Salad, which has gem lettuce, avocado, radish, lemon cream, black peppers, and chives. I opted to add broiled salmon to my salad for an upcharge. Okay so my Coke was crispy (IYKYK) and the salad was so good and refreshing. The reason I knocked off a star is because the salmon portion was small. Perfect to share with two or even three people. The salad was chopped up into fine pieces which was kind of annoying to eat. Entree wise I got the steak frites. I made a mistake ordering medium well instead of medium rare. I didn't check was steak was being used and seemed to be flank. It was very tough it hurt my jaw chewing it. It was too late to ask for a different piece and just didn't want to make a scene. Flavors were there though but wow it was super tough. Fries on the plate were as hard as a rock. 85% we're and the rest you had to find soft ones. Also ordered the ribeye, flavoring was good and it was cooked well. No complaints. WOW! This place exceeded our expectations for our very last minute dinner spot decision. My best friend and I decided to split 3 dishes. We ordered: *Crispy Shrimp: 10/10 -Ordered as an appetizer, we completely demolished the dish within 5 minutes. -Tangy flavor from the ginger soy glaze and miso aioli, squeeze a lil lemon on there and BAM, explosion of flavor goodness. * Filet Sliders: 9/10 -The meat was cooked per our requested temp, we chose medium rare. -Simple but packed with flavor from the aioli and arugula. -The truffle fries that came with the sliders were perfectly seasoned. *Seared Scallops: 8/10 -I LOVE scallops and these jumbo scallops did not disappoint. -The sweet corn purée and spring peas was not my favorite combo for the scallops but was a different flavor to try nonetheless. Great food and great service! This place is a winner. I've been to this spot for dinner a few times in Chicago. My team mentions it regularly as a reliable spot. It has delicious food, reasonable prices and is very close to our office. The restaurant is downstairs and on the river, which is just so delightful and makes for a beautiful setting. My latest visit last week was particularly good. We tried the truffle Mac and cheese. So amazing and creamy! The Kale Salad was next, and it had a delightful Asian flare with a bit of pleasant heat. Finally, we finished with the tagliatelle pasta dish, and it was so wonderful. An all around delicious meal! Our server was also absolutely delightful. My wife and I took a river cruise in Chicago and she wanted to dine at one of the restaurants along the river afterward. She looked on yelp for one that we might be able to afford and judging by yelp's dollar signs, this restaurant was one of the few. We walked quite a ways to get here, but it was worth it. We sat outside because the moon was full and the weather was perfect. We were seated immediately along the river. The views were amazing, even at night. We were given water and menus. Our waiters were extremely friendly and thoughtful. My wife requested sliders and a shrimp appetizer. We also requested some drinks. My drink of choice was an amaretto sour, which was just okay. I think it was a little unbalanced as I didn't taste much amaretto. It was still yummy, however. A little while later, the sliders arrived. They had filet mignon on them and they were delicious. The shrimp appetizer was delicious and bold tasting at first, but I found myself getting tired of the flavor by the time we were done eating it. Overall, our visit was excellent. We did a long walk on weird roads to be able to make it here! I am so glad we did. :) The reason we chose this restaurant is because it is on the way to the Union station. We were visiting Chicago and wanted to have dinner before our train. This place is right on the river with a beautiful view, surrounded by beautiful buildings. It is at that unique triangular based building 150 N Riverside. There is a walk path of another business on top of Porter restaurant and there were guys getting ready to use power washers to clean the ground. We saw they were getting ready when we were on the way to the restaurant. Then we sat right by the river, and they began cleaning and we got little soapy water splashes all over us. Our umbrella wasn't enough to protect us and our drinks. Our waiter was very kind and helpful about it, he immediately replaced our drinks with the new ones. This restaurant looks fancy and we were expecting high prices or small portions. But no. Portions are big, prices are great! Both fried chicken and steak burgers, fries, Gem salad were so delicious! Pleasant surprise! I had been meaning to try porter for a while but didn't get a chance to until very recently. And I was pleasantly surprised at everything including the service, the ambiance and the food. We got the brick chicken and it was plenty of food for dinner. The chicken was crispy, juicy and tender. I've been here twice - once for a date with my boyfriend in the summer time and another time for drinks & small bites with my best friend in the winer time. I can't even begin to explain how difficult it was for my boyfriend and I to find Porter Kitchen and Deck my first time here, only to find it be embarrassingly easy to access! The restaurant located inside of another bigger building; right when you enter the building, turn right to access the first set of elevators and it's labeled which to take for Porter's. Easy peasy! There's also bathrooms right outside the restaurant which is nice. The outside deck is really pretty to sit outside during the nice weather time. I've sat both outside and inside, and I truly liked both setting. It's dimly lit inside during dinner time and gives it a calm, sexy vibe. The service here both times was okay - the first time our server messed up both our orders and didn't come around often, my more recent encounter our server didn't come around too often either. The food here is yummy! I think they might've changed ownership or partnered with a different restaurant group my second time around because the menu looked different, had different food items, and was priced less than it used to be. I recommend their crispy shrimp, which was the best meal I've gotten here. The dishes I had my first time around (a steak and a signature salad) are no longer on the menu and were both alright. The crab dip was hot and pretty good, but super fishy. My more recent time was a better experience than my first! The prices are above average but still not bad. I like their cocktails, too (if you've been to Benchmark in the city, they have almost identical drinks since they're the same restaurant group). This is a long overdue review since I have visited Porter Kitchen on several occasions in the last 3-4 years. My first trip was with my wife for happy hour at their outdoor seating to enjoy beautiful views of the Chicago river and cocktails and apps. This was a while ago and I still recall I had their Old Fashion and beef filet sliders with fries. The sliders are good even today! Fast forward 3 years and I have been to Porters for several work lunches and dinners and the experience has always been consistent. I do gravitate towards getting their salmon and it's always prepared medium rare to my specification to not dry it out. Porter is part of their enterprise wide My4C loyalty point system. I had an issue once redeeming points and they took care of it by adjusting my CC charge. Extra star for that. read more

I wanted to share some feedback regarding a recent reservation attempt. I called the other day to make a reservation for 10 people. I was asked to provide a credit card to hold the reservation, which I did. However, I later received a call back saying that the card was not accepted and was asked to provide the number again. Since I wasn't comfortable giving my credit card details over the phone to a number I didn't recognize, I asked if there was a secure payment link or another option, but none were offered. Hosted a team dinner here on a Tuesday night. I had nothing to do with the venue, my EA booked based on recos she's gotten. All the places I suggested closer to the office didn't have anything open The space is nice, directly level with, and on, the Chicago River in West Loop. If you're facing the river, you might find yourself gazing at one of the many Chicago boat tours, or crazy kayakers, or the CTA L train off in the distance. You could say the food is American, anyone should be able to find something to eat from the menu - which you need to have your phone out to scan a QR code. Check with the server on menu changes, at just 6:45, they were out of Salmon and gnocchi. We ordered apps to split - carrots, cauliflower, burrata, hummus/pita points, and deviled eggs. All were good. For an entree, I ordered a soup and a salad. The cup of tomato soup wasn't that good. The shaved Brussels salad was enormous. At one point I felt like a cow eating roughage barely making a dent in the trough of the salad bowl - while everyone else was finished with their meals.
