Ambiance and service are great here (thank you, Alex!). Food and wine I would say were just okay. Good but nothing I would ever crave and return for. I had the crab cakes as my entree which were good but I have had better. Bill was reasonable for what we had. Nice location to go to before the Lyric Opera but that's about it. read more

I wanted to share some feedback regarding a recent reservation attempt. I called the other day to make a reservation for 10 people. I was asked to provide a credit card to hold the reservation, which I did. However, I later received a call back saying that the card was not accepted and was asked to provide the number again. Since I wasn't comfortable giving my credit card details over the phone to a number I didn't recognize, I asked if there was a secure payment link or another option, but none were offered. Unfortunately, I had to cancel the reservation. read more

Wasn't really my favorite . Location is wonderful . Staff was just ok and my meal wasn't anything spectacular

Food was pretty good but the view was better. The restaurant is tucked away, I wouldn't have found it without a good Apple Maps search. The riverfront balcony seating was the best part. Our waitress was good, service overall was pleasant. My husband got the steak sliders and gave them a 5/10 because the meat wasn't very much and didn't have a great taste (was bland). Fries were DELICIOUS! Get those! I got the fish tacos and really like them, they were fresh and had good flavor. We got a couple drinks which were tasty but mostly ice so expensive for what you got. read more

Came here with friends to hang out and get dinner before our architecture river cruise! We were excited due to seeing some videos on instagram recommending this spot and showing off its food and drinks. Check in was easy and the restaurant was very clean, friendly and had a nice ambiance. We were seated fairly quickly and our server came and greeted us. He was exceptionally delightful and helpful. We appreciated the quality of his service greatly. For food, we ordered a variety of dishes among the 6 of us. For appetizers we got the Grilled Pita & Hummus, Crispy Shrimp & Sweet Potato wedges. For Entree's we got the Spicy Rigatoni, Lobster Roll, 2 Crispy Brick Chickens, Mushroom Risotto and Seared Scallops. Also ordered sides of bacon and truffle mac & cheese. All 3 of the appetizers were amazingly well done. They tasted delicious and were great in presentation and taste. The entrees we had multiple hits and misses. Our hits per the group were Mushroom Risotto and Seared Scallop. The Crispy Brick Chicken was definitely good but nothing exceptional, would have liked other flavors besides just salt. The Spicy Rigatoni and Lobster Rolls fell flat for our group and we didn't find it that great. We also got some drinks - 2 Strawberry Basil Smashes, Loose Goose and Diablo. We enjoyed the drinks and thought they tasted great. Overall, would say the restaurant itself is quite nice with great ambiance and service. We're used to stronger flavors for our food so could be a reason the food somewhat fell flat for us. Does have a very good view of the river though, so isn't a bad option for some nice views. read more

The ambience of this place is what makes the 4 star review. I love the Riverside view, and I'm sure in the summers, the Riverside patio is amazing. The food however, was mediocre for the price. The star of the show, aside from the riverside view would be the "pull apart bread" and it's side kick honey butter. The bread was so warm and soothing along with the honey butter they just melt in your mouth. I would eat 2 pounds of this! The bread is lightly salted, which adds a unique taste. For our entrees, we shared the steak frites (medium rare) and the Porter cheeseburger (medium). The steak frites was alright, nothing special for the price. I did not taste any seasoning, which was a tad disappointing and made the steak bland overall. The fries were good, but you must be really terrible for me to give you a 1 star on your fries making skills ;) The Porter Cheeseburger was an average burger, but for the price, I wouldn't order it again. There are a lot of other burgers out there with this price that will knock your socks off. This one did not make the list. I think this place would be a great place for drinks after work, but definitely not the best place for dinner. read more

I met an out of town friend there for lunch a few weeks back and I can say that will be the last time I go there. Our service was not great - and felt we needed to keep flagging her down for a refill of pop or for our check. For food - we each got the brussel sprouts salad. It was tasteless - little dressing and just dry overall. The only redeeming trait of the meal was being able to sit outside overlooking the river. read more

We visited at 830p on a Saturday night and the place was virtually empty. We almost decided to forego the whole dinner due to the parking nightmare. $13 + 2 processing fee that you have to download and app to book. And it wasn't explained that there is no valet after 7pm so you have to get out of your car to push the intercom for access. Nonetheless, we were seated by the windows since it was a chilly night. Although many people were outdoors. Either way, excellent views. Our server Gavin was phenomenal, truly the highlight of the evening with his energy, comedy and kindness. We ordered the pomegranate margaritas which were tasty but hardly any alcohol. The cauliflower was ok, not enough of it on the platter compared to the bed of couscous and cashews. Also the sauce was a bit overpowering. The shrimp were very small but flavorful, yet again, too much going on with the sauce after a few bites. We skipped ordering entrees because of the less than impressive apps, but did opt for fries after sitting so long and enjoying each others company. My date had truffle fries which looked good but I didn't taste. I ordered sweet potato fries which were surprisingly loaded with kale and sunflower seeds. Not bad but also not something I could eat a lot of thanks to all the flavors combined. Glad for the experience when intentionally trying something new, but we won't be back. Except maybe to hang with Gavin ha! read more

The chicken and Brussel sprouts were delicious! The broccolini was a little bit bland and the sliders were chewy, but overall I would rate this restaurant a 7/10. I would definitely get the chicken and Brussel sprouts again as they were very flavorful. The server was great. read more

The restaurant atmosphere and staff were nice and welcoming. I had the lobster bites and a Cesar salad. The lobster bites were crispy but very salty. The initial bite was good after chewing I had a strong salty after-taste. I will think twice before eating at Porter Kitchen & Deck. read more

Had a work dinner here Tuesday night with about 40 people. We had the private room off the entrance which was quite nice. Our waiter was attentive, funny and charming. Food was great. Pita (!!!) and hummus was the best I ever had. Ravioli and cheesecake were amazing. The only complaint I had is that it took quite awhile for the food to come out in between courses. Would probably have dinner here again, though. Everything was delicious! read more

Restaurant had a great view of the river. We ordered the pull apart bread, and ricotta and bread appetizers both were delicious. We ordered the chicken and the burger for dinner both very good. Our drinks and appetizers came out quickly but main entrees were extremely slow. Service wasn't great brought us the check assuming we didn't want dessert without asking. I am guessing because we waited so long for entrees. read more

Beautiful atmosphere, river seating, gorgeous looking interior. Great staff, great bartender and server. Food is mediocre. The deviled eggs were over cooked which made them rubbery, the asparagus was an interesting choice but had no flavor, and the whole dish was underwhelming. The whipped burrata was delicious, great choice in dressed greens, vinegar bit through the sweetness of the honey and cheese and the bread was a nice crisp without hurting your mouth. The sliders were the best thing we ate, perfectly cooked and seasoned, great bun choice, and the texture wasn't chewy. The fries were good but when you use pecorino as it's not a very good melting cheese it just clumped on-top of the fries in the hot window and dried out and was not good. The turkey club was great, healthy portions but proper ratios of everything, and love a pickle on the side..the soup was disappointing, seemed homemade in the description but the flavor tastes like the sauce in spaghetti Os with parsley in it. Did not eat the rest of it after a few bites..would not recommend read more

Great spot by the river. Came in on a Saturday with coworkers post Tradeshow. Great ambiance and service was great. They did run out of ribeye so opted for a salad. Interesting that when I was calling to reserve a table it kept going to voicemail so we just did a walk in and luckily it wasn't busy probably because no one is picking up the phone to take reservations. NEW FAVE SPOT WITH A VIEW @porterkitchenchi River west in the riverside plaza Chicago Wow wow wow - I've walked this bridge next to Ogilvie many times & never knew there was such an amazing spot here! (Sponsored) Check it out: Chicago Restaurant Week Happy Hour 3-6pm Thu & Fri Lunch/Dinner (closed Sunday) Additional special events i.e. whiskey tasting (see website) I literally had 15sec so didn't have time to talk about what I LOVED about this spot Cocktails: STRAWBERRY BASIL SMASH - so so so dang good , @thebotanistgin + fresh strawberry, basil , lemon + simple syrup. Really simple, not too sweet and amazingly fragrant & balanced FOUR CORNERS OLD FASHIONED - need I say more? With @sazeracrye . Nice & classic, very well done MARTINIS - choose from gin/vermouth/vodka + Blue cheese olives/lemon + on the rocks/shaken / dirty / filthy we didn't order this but they have a massive menu for martinis , done YOUR way. I know a lot of people like this. Appetizers: PULL APART BREAD + HONEY BUTTER - topped with sea salt and homemade (only available during dinner). I was surprised when the waiter Heather recommended this, not knowing what I was getting into. But WOW you HAVE TO get this. Warm fluffy bread with a crispy skin & soft middle, served in a mini cast iron - dip in the honey butter CRISPY SHRIMP - ginger soy glaze + miso aioli, sesame, scallion. Really crispy with dollops of aioli to (choose your own adventure). Amazing balance of sweet & umami, literally finished this in ten minutes (I used the serving spoon to eat ) GRILLED PITA & HUMMUS - don't be fooled. They have FLUFFY pita that has the right chew & softness, almost half-inch thick. The hummus had fennel, red onion, tomato, lemon, & sumac. Just WOW packed, I'd order a bunch of this with a big table (friends/business) Mains: LOBSTER ROLL - I've had a lot of lobster rolls in my life. Used to live in Boston this is by far the most packed with lobster. It goes deeeeppp - Simple with dijonaise, clarified butter (I poured a lot ), @oldbay_seasoning , & a new england roll. I wanted to love this spot since it's right on the water. The view is the best part of this place. When my fiance and I went, it was around 4 pm so it was pretty empty. I got the steak frites and honestly, I thought the steak was just okay. Fries didn't have much salt and the steak was almost too salty. He got the pasta and said it was nothing special. We came in on a Friday night with reservations and were seated immediately at a table looking out at the river-such a great view! We started off dinner with the Burrata which was amazing and I recommend. The focaccia bread was the perfect amount of crispy but soft and the burrata was fresh and delicious. For our entrees we ordered the Rib-eye and Seared White Fish. The Ribeye was cooked to perfection and delicious! However, I do wish I ordered something else instead of the Fish..it was pretty bony and just not what I was expecting unfortunately. But overall I think this is a good date night spot, our waitress was attentive and helpful and the price point for a river-view restaurant is great! read more

Came here for a celebratory dinner after work and we were pleasantly surprised with how good the food was! We made reservations for 5:30pm and were seated quickly. The interior is pretty swanky and cool and I loved the mix of booths and tables so it felt pretty intimate in there. We opted not to sit outside since it was supposed to rain, but the views of the river would have been great! I ordered their burger with fries and my fiancée ordered a caesar salad and mac & cheese. The portion sizes were larger than expected and the food was fantastic! No complaints from us! I will say it was a little confusing finding it - you have to walk into a big glass building and you'll see signs for Small Cheval outside. Then you turn right and go down in an elevator to get to the restaurant. From there it's all smooth sailing! Would definitely recommend if you're in the area and are looking for a more intimate space, especially if you want a view of the water. read more

Our waiter, Omar, was delightful! He gave us a run down of the food and always checked up on us to ensure our meals were good and if we needed anything. He also gave us good beer recommendations. Deck seating was also nice and scenic - despite the tiny bugs around the plants. Crispy Shrimp: interesting batter, wish it didn't separate from the shrimp as much, the sauce was flavorful but really overpowering and salty - would be good paired with white rice or a carb to balance out. Brussel Sprouts Side: MY FAVE THING I GOT. So so good and flavorful Brick Chicken: Nothing special imo, grilled chicken with potatoes and a mid sauce. Don't know why it is their most popular Cheeseburger: Nothing special, not enough sauce Truffle Fries: the truffle sauce was good but the fries almost tasted stale. read more

We came here for their Restaurant Week lunch menu for $25. It includes three courses and is an excellent deal. I loved their Burrata appetizer and Tomato soup. Their Porter Cheeseburger (cooked perfectly) and Spicy Chicken Sandwich were delicious. We also enjoyed Salmon with broccoli. Service was excellent. Their view of the Chicago river is a fantastic bonus. We will return in summer to sit on their outdoor patio. Please note the restaurant is in the lower level of the lovely grey 150 N. Riverside building which houses the Hyatt Hotel (between Lake Street and Randolph Street). Upon entering the building lobby, take an immediate right (follow the signage) and take any of four elevators down. read more

Visiting the city for the first time, this was the first restaurant we tried. I wanted somewhere by the water and a yummy lunch spot, this place surpassed it. 5 stars for the seating on the river which is really beautiful! We came here for just drinks so can't comment much on the food. We ordered an appetizer and fries and they were pretty decent. The drinks were a bit on the pricey side but they defs had alcohol that you could feel!! Service was really great too! To get inside you have to go into the big glass building and take the elevators. Porter's was built upon its five forces - its beautiful Riverfront view, modern American essence, intimate dining space, classic svedka mules, and much needed happy hours. I've been here a number of times, and the patio makes a great time for drinks with coworkers. The food is in my opinion very mediocre after eating here a few times. Here are my honest reviews of everything I've tried on the menu: - Porter cheeseburger: 3/5 very filling but pretty average - Fried chicken sandwich: 2/5 this thing is HUGE but super dry - Grilled pita & hummus: 5/5 they give you a lot of hummus, the pita is served fresh and would come for this again - Mac & cheese: 3/5 really underwhelming, it basically tastes like Kraft - Fettuccine: 3/5 one of the few things here that comes in a pretty small portion - Crab roll: 3/5 they are very generous with the meat at least but it's just okay - Filet sliders: 1/5 strong dislike for these - Fish Tacos: 2/5 really plain and not a fan of the tortilla wrap - Steak frites: 2/5 was disappointed - Lemon cheesecake: 4/5 I liked this, pretty solid - Chocolate mousse cake: 1/5 definitely not worth the calories, huge but was sick of it after two bites On the bright side, I give their drinks and atmosphere a 5/5. Views are incredible and staff is really friendly. It's close by to me so I come here, despite my discontentment with the food. If you like American food, maybe you'll like it though. read more

I came here last night with some buddies to grab dinner/drinks before we headed over to Goose Island Fulton to try their Epic Flight. It's a little hard to find as you need to enter through the main entrance of the office building next to Small Cheval and take the elevator/stairs to the LL. I made the mistake of walking around to Lake St. thinking I could enter there, but that wasn't the case and I had to walk all of the way back. I have actually been to Porter Kitchen & Deck before for a business meeting a years ago and I had a seminar in the LL of the building last year so I am somewhat familiar of Porter. I remembered they had solid food and that was definitely the case last night! Porter Kitchen & Deck is a restaurant with American fare, think upscale bar food. I didn't realize it's owned by the 4C group. I'm not a huge fan of Federales or Benchmark, but I like Highline and Porter. I made a reservation for 5:45pm on a Saturday night. It wasn't crowded when we arrived, but it filled up around 6:30-7pm. The place was very cool as it's sleek, modern, and has somewhat of a business vibe. They have a fantastic deck along the Chicago River! They have a nice long bar with a few TVs and it looked like they had a lounge area with some comfy seats near the entrance. We were seated right in the middle of the room against the window so we had a great view of the river. Our waitress was great last night! She was very attentive and circled back to us constantly seeing if we needed anything. Food came out fairly quick too. So weird thing, but I wanted to give them a shout-out. I love their menu style! I ordered a straight gin martini last night and I don't drink martinis as I highly dislike Vermouth. But their menu describes all of the different types of martinis (straight, dry, extra dry, 007, classic, dirty, & filthy). I actually didn't know there were that many types and it was very educational. My straight gin martini with Aviation Gin was very good! Porter also has a sneaky good whiskey list at some very good prices (Especially for the West Loop Gate/Loop neighborhood)! I was able to get a 2oz pour of Stagg Jr. for $13, which I think is a very good price as that bottle is pretty hard to find in Chicago and it's a 130+ proof bourbon. Other solid prices I found were EHT Single Barrel ($15), Blanton's ($15), Eagle Rare 10 ($13), Weller 107 ($12), and Weller Special Reserve ($11). Those prices are incredible for Chicago! I ordered the Porter Cheeseburger, which was solid! The burger was juicy and the toppings were good. Fries were solid too and came with some garlic aioli. The steak frites looked pretty good too and my buddy enjoyed it! Overall, Porter Kitchen & Tap is more than just a lunch place/happy hour for co-workers and business meeting dinners. They have a very good whiskey list, great cocktails, and solid food! Service was great last night! Plus you can't beat the views of the Chicago River and Porter has a nice atmosphere. I think this is a little bit of a hidden gem in the LL of an office building and I hope to be back soon. read more
