    Tasting experience
    Jessie M.

We did the wine tasting experience and had a great time! The tasting included five wines paired with some crackers, cheese, olives, and prosciutto. The person leading the tasting was very engaging and walked us through what to look for when sampling wines. We were part of a small group but everyone was engaged in the experience. It was very relaxed and enjoyable. This is such a great thing to do in the city!

I have been here quite a few times, but it has been over 6 months since I'd last visited. We came in on Friday night during the coldest day in Chicago history, and the heat wasn't working! Pretty crazy so we luckily were able to grab a spot by their cozy fireplace. Unfortunately they no longer serve cocktails or food either. Just wine and beer.

We did a the date night, which included the wine tasting and a credit toward more wine or food in the dining room afterward. We enjoyed the tasting. Our guide was knowledgeable, and the 7 wines we tried were varied and excellent. Afterward, we got a seat right next to the fireplace, which was delightful on a cold night. We tried the croquettes, the short rib, and the smoked fish dip. The croquettes were perfectly fried and were light and airy. The fish dip with the house-made giardiniera was tasty. The short ribs had a great sauce and pickle but they ate dry. Best thing? The cookie.

I've done the wine tastings here twice, and really enjoy going. Their food bites are really tasty, and the wines are very good. They change the flights for tastings seasonally, which is nice. It's a super cozy vibe for the winter time, with nice fireplaces

Visited Chicago Winery on Valentine's Day and had the 4-course dining experience. I was pleasantly surprised. Every course was delicious. My favorite was the beet and horseradish gnocchi and I'm not a horseradish fan! Our waiter was very attentive which I always appreciate. Very romantic atmosphere as well- we will be back.

Chicago Winery is hands down one of my favorite places. Do I mostly go for the wine? Yes. Do I not like cheese? yea. Did I like the burrata cheese? Surprisingly yes! Our server recommended the wine flight and the side dish to go with it - her recommendations were top tier. We had such a good time! Chicago winery is an experience not only because of the drinks but the service is always great!! Especially in the wine tasting room, the servers always take their time to explain the wines on the list and talk about their favorites too! I've been there so many times and each time it never fails. If you're looking for a girls night spot or romantic (affordable) date night venue, this is the place for you!

this place has cool decor, nice fireplaces, and solid service. i wish the wine tasting was more than 1oz per wine. i wouldn't make a point to come here again but i'm overall pleased with the experience.

This is a wonderful venue with surprisingly good wine! They make their own wine there! We attended for a nonprofit event, and it was the perfect place. I highly recommend trying this out.

Cozy, warm, trendy and upscale. I have met and was also honored to have been given a tour of the whole lace and layout. I have been walked through wine pairings and seasonal dishes and all with an interesting integrity touch do not see very often. Every chef I have learned is different and has their own flare to what I love to order---- the Charcuterie Board. It's always a little different and unique, but also made to order. I had one of THE BEST GALZ EVER, actually DRAW me and my friend a map of the whole board and what the Chef had put out for us to Enjoy. I mean this was COMPLETELY mind blowing and WAAAY over the top to do. Her name was Layah. Thank you Chicago Whinery- you have a lot of hidden talent.

I've been to Chicago Winery several times now, and I've always been pleasantly impressed! The bar is one of the most chic bars in the city, and the cocktails and wine selection are amazing. The bar tenders are very skilled and so friendly! If you are dining in, you MUST order The Chef's Whim. Each board is different, and filled with amazing meats, cheeses, fruits, and vegetables. I've also tried the skirt steak, which was very tender and cooked to perfection! Whether grabbing a drink, dining out, or planning an event, Chicago Winery is a great place to consider!

Perfect after work :) thank goodness for wine!

I work at Northwestern Medicine and boy I'm I happy I found this gem so close by! The wine choices are Devine, especially the reds! All of the small snacks at the bar are exceptional and always pair well with the wine choices. The ambiance is lovely, giving off a fun elegant vibe. I've seen people here on a first date and I'm always here with friends after work so it's a perfect fit for any mood you might be in. Service is great, the staff are super friendly and you can count on them to help you out if you need a recommendation.

$20 for a 5 wine tasting menu. They do not take reservations, so would recommend getting there before 7. There is sitting room along with a long bar where you can stand. They have two options - seasonal and the winemaker's flight. You can also write down which of the wines you want to try. Wines are made in house and were overall pretty good. Favorites were the 2018 Cab and the 2019 Pinot noir. Wouldn't necessarily purchase a bottle by itself, but this is a great place to come try!

Truly an amazing space. Staff was super friendly, service was spot on and the food was great. I'd highly recommend Chicago Winery, especially for an event. They have a great patio area that has drop down windows and heaters so it's warm, even on a chilly night. The decor is modern/classic, mixing good from the old with the new.

Before the show you can eat in the dining room or on the patio, weather permitting. They have a great burger and wine special some weeknights, and the burger is fantastic. There are also happy hour specials. City Winery is a negociant, and I think most of the grapes it buys are from the West Coast. The wines I tried were by and large in the new world style, although one of the reds had some old world complexity. On the whole, passable but not memorable. The show was fantastic. Sons started at 8 on the dot and played a thrilling 90 minute set. It's a great place to see an act up close and actually see them - no one stands, there isn't room! We had seats in the second row that were labeled wheelchair accessible, but they were not quite that - City Winery packs everyone in quite tightly. Fortunately two seats next to us were empty, giving us the space we needed. I would not, under any circumstances, order dinner inside the music venue, City Winery's encouragement notwithstanding. The tables are far too small. Do yourself a solid and eat in the dining room beforehand. And become a member - between the free valet and waived fees, it pays for itself after 2-3 shows.

I also had an egg frittata and an espresso martini. The egg frittata was low on salt and luckily I had the dip to eat it with. The skillet it came in was also so hot I burned my hand (I did get a warning from the server but still). The espresso martini also wasn't great and it had ice in it which made it watery so fast. My bf had the short rib sandwich and said it was delicious and for me the dip was my saving grace so if you're GF I wouldn't come here expecting a filling meal. Come for wine and dips and a patio vibe.

The inside is moody with dark wood finishes, black accents, and elegant artwork & feature lighting. Upon entering, one checks in at the first floor host stand. A server brings you upstairs to the dining area. There is a mixture of two and four tops in the space and our table had a handwritten note congratulating us on our anniversary. Our seat allowed both of us to have a view of the kitchen window to watch the chefs prep courses. There were 3-4 servers that serviced the entire dining room and rotated in presenting dishes. They started with warm towelettes to wash your hands which was a nice touch. Service level throughout was impeccable with water refills, explaining the menu, delightful demeanor, fresh silverware per course, and wiping the table clean from anything that dropped. This was certainly one of the best hospitality levels at a one star I've experienced. Dinner was 12 courses including the amuse-bouche and final treats. There was not one course that didn't offer bright, fresh flavors. The presentation of plates were beautiful from every angle. It's hard to pick any top dish as everything was unique and special in their own way; but I am still thinking about the Crab Bite, Sablefish, and Pasta Course. After dinner, each guest got a complimentary bag full of goodies to enjoy at home. What a beautiful final touch! Moody Tongue as a whole far exceeded my expectations. Each dish offered something familiar in a new way that left me speechless. I highly recommend coming to fully experiencing everything they have to offer as you will not be disappointed! When I first arrived, I was warmly greeted by a middle-aged woman who was very helpful in guiding me to choose a wine; something I truly appreciated as I'm not very knowledgeable in that area. Unfortunately, my positive experience quickly turned sour when I reached the front desk to pay. I overheard the older woman at the register kindly offer the gentleman in front of me gift wrapping. When it was my turn, she didn't offer it, so I politely asked if I could have my item wrapped, as I was bringing it to see family I haven't seen in a long time over the holidays. Her reaction was startling; she gave me a look that made me feel like I'd asked for something outrageous, muttered something under her breath, and created an incredibly awkward atmosphere. To make matters worse, when I asked for my receipt after paying, she responded with the same coldness and unprofessional attitude. I don't know what her issue with me was, but I've never felt so unwelcome in a small business. It's disappointing because I came in genuinely wanting to support a local store. Sadly, after that experience, I'll be taking my business elsewhere; there are plenty of other liquor stores nearby where customer service is more consistent and respectful.
