The service was great, food was wonderful and the atmosphere was relaxed. I went with my two teens and we were seated right away. The waiter was very attentive and made sure we knew the details of what we ordered. We had the bruschetta appetizer and he also brought us fresh bread for the table. We had the burrata ravioli, spaghetti and meatballs and the penne arribiata. They were all very tasty and the penne dish was spicy (maybe just a thought too spicy for me, but I was warned!). This restaurant is in the hotel I am staying at while in Chicago for work so it was an easy dinner option, especially since we had a long day with flying and driving around. I ordered the spaghetti puttanesca, broccolini and my coworker ordered the steak frites. Everything was delicious. My pasta was very flavorful and had plenty of toppings and sauce and the broccolini was cooked perfectly with a nice little sweetness from the balsamic glaze. The restaurant aesthetic is sort of made up of two parts: the first being the more elegant dining, when you first walk in and also has an inviting bar area. The second part (where we were sat) is located in the back and the tables and seating look less formal and more casual. Our server was attentive and efficient and the manager did come over to check on us, which is always nice. I came back after walking around DT to get their tiramisu to go, along with some hot tea. Nice seating and nice bar. It was connected to our hotel and we had perks with our credit card otherwise I may not have tried multiple meals. We came here twice for breakfast during our stay at the Kimpton Gray hotel which is included as part of the Chase Shappire Edit perk. The steak and eggs, pork sausage and potatoes were super delicious. The first day I ordered the chopped chicken Milanese but it had too much dressing on it and the chicken was a bit dry. Our server the first day Mateo was super sweet and attentive. Really made our experience special. The second day was not as great. Overall it was a 5 star experience except for the service on the second day and the disappointing salad. read more

Had breakfast here twice. The first morning, we had the traditional breakfast and second morning, I decided to live a little and get a burger. The burger is superb! Maybe being hungover may have played a role in why the savory and salty and oily was doing it for me. Our meals came out quickly and we were in and out. Everyone was welcoming and wished us a great day when we left. This is my second restaurant week experience, I came here for work lunch and tried their $30 lunch menu and I was not disappointed by the food. I ordered calamari, meatball sub and pistachio cheesecake - they were all cooked to perfection. I particularly loved their fries. The only complaint was the prep time was too long so I ended up taking everything to go...I probably wouldn't come here if I only have 1sh hour... The decor was chic and elegant. Really wished we picked a different place to have a nice work lunch. We walked in at 11:30 and did not leave until 1:30 ... we literally had to leave without getting our dessert (which was only gelato). The service was sooooooo slow - this is not a place for this area. Business professionals have meetings and work to conduct and unfortunately not 2 hours to get a couple plates. Here's the problem...... we walked in with it being absolutely empty only 10 of us. We put in our order before the place started filling up. Only 4 of us did the "3 course lunch special" and one appetizer. I literally watched people sit down and get their food wayyyy before our appetizers even came out. A lot of others around us did the special too after getting in before us and receiving their food before us. Super unacceptable to be serving people walking in way after us and giving them better service. I thought it was being understaffed but it was far from the issues. One person in our party waited 10 mins for her meal after we were all served (mind you all sandwiches and salads). The chicken on my sandwich was as thin as paper and so dry. Someone also from our party also has food poisoning. The worst part we all left without getting our dessert even though we paid for it. . . Because it took 20 mins. Yet we all saw people being served the exact same thing. When we asked for the check we tried to give the server the card to leave quicker since we all had a meeting to be in, he refused and said he had to present the check ..... Food sucked, not an ideal lunch spot for work, service was garbage and the bathrooms were dirty (which I don't think is their fault)- 0 stars would have been a more accurate rating. read more

Not sure how this place has 4.5 stars. The food and service were both really disappointing. We ended up coming here for breakfast each morning since we were staying at the Kimpton and also had a $100 credit to use and this was basically the only option because the other hotel restaurants were closed. On Sunday morning, 4/26/26, there was a line out the door with no host in sight. I asked others waiting and they said they had already been there for about 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging them or explaining what was going on. I finally flagged down a waitress who seemed annoyed. When I asked if there was a host or waitlist, she said no and that even if we were seated it would still take another 20 minutes just to place an order. I asked to do a pickup order instead and she took it but again with attitude. When I asked if they had fresh pressed juice, she responded in an annoyed and dismissive tone and said they only had "regular" juice, which was not helpful at all. She said she would come back with the check but disappeared for about 10 minutes, so I ended up leaving and coming back later to close out. The food itself was just sooooo bad. The avocado toast was soggy to the point the bread was falling apart, and the poached egg was rubbery, honestly one of the worst I have had. Every single item I had here was bad. We also came for dinner where the service was slightly better but still not friendly. We ordered a chicken dish, pasta, and a salad, and everything was heavy, greasy, and lacked flavor. I recently visited La Bella Trattoria and had a pleasant overall experience. The service was good -- attentive, friendly, and professional throughout the meal. The atmosphere was also nice, clean, and comfortable, making it a good spot for a relaxed dinner. As for the food, it was decent but nothing spectacular. I had the penne araviata, which was okay -- enjoyable but not particularly memorable. We also ordered the chicken Vesuvio, which was definitely better and had good flavor. The highlight of the night, though, was the tiramisu. It was easily the best part of the meal -- rich, well-balanced, and the perfect way to end dinner. So, yeah. It has food. The food is alright if you're hungry and don't realize you're in one of the best cities for amazing food in the U.S. I was staying nearby and needed a quick bite and was excited to see the pizza photos on their website. In fact, I was so hungry that I didn't dig too deep into their menu but just popped by. The space is nice, the bartender was friendly, and the appetizer of some sort of toasted ravioli was good. It reminded me of St. Louis food. The pizza was a solid 4 for Chicago and a negative 22 for Italy. The cheese was not premium, the crust was dry and lifeless, and the sauce tasted canned with dried oregano type seasoning. So, lots of good for the experience but the main draw was a serious miss. read more

4 Stars for a solid breakfast, attached to The Gray (Kimpton Hotel), with really friendly service. Note: We were there for a late Saturday brunch, but saw some folks come in looking for pizza and they were told that lunch options wouldn't be available until after 2pm that day. It's not noted on the website (lunch only available after 2pm on Saturdays), so worth mentioning! The space is beautiful and clearly has recently been renovated. There seemed to be a semi-private dining area encased in glass walls, but otherwise there were tables and booths and an attractive bar. We got the breakfast sandwich, which comes on brioche bun, filled with scrambled eggs, american cheese, arugula, and a chicken sausage patty. It came with breakfast potatoes (doesn't mention it on the menu, so happy surprise!) and they were SO GOOD. Crispy exterior, well seasoned, YUM. IMO one of the best happy hours in the loop. So far that's all I've had time to come for, but the menu is such a great value and its hits that happy hour spot. Great location and plenty of seats at the bar or at the tables in the bar area. They have a rotating cocktail of the day, which has been anything from an old-fashioned to a fun martini. The flatbread and sliders are great value. Also, I think the toasted ravioli are some of the best I've ever had - they don't inflict enormous amount of over toasted ravioli, razor blade crunch in your mouth. Packed full of delicious cheese and their dipping sauces are fantastic. You could literally clear a plate of those on your own in no time. They also have a great, I believe they're Italian blend, house white and red to choose from. I've come for happy hour four times now and have it ever left disappointed the service here is excellent and with it being only about 2 1/2 blocks from my downtown office I will continue to be a frequent flyer here. read more

I came here after going to a book signing at Kimpton. The restaurant didn't have many customers in the dining area but had a nice size private event group over on the other side. I came and I sat at the bar, thinking it would yield swifter service, but I quickly realize that the people at the bar were also helping out with the private event so it took me a while to even place my order. One of the other patrons told me that they were moving kind of so to make sure that I had my order ready by the time they came in. That was some really great advice after I placed my order. It didn't take long for my food or drink to come. The calamari was absolutely delicious and has to be some of my fave in the city and the fries were also delicious as well. I tried a few of the different drinks and the bartender even remade me a drink once he noticed that I wasn't really liking it so, which I appreciate it. read more

I'm staying at the Kimpton Gray hotel for work. I'm from CT/NJ area where Italian food and pizza is prevalent. I didn't expect much from a restaurant connected to a hotel, but when I tried the chicken fettuccine alfredo and the margherita pizza I was wowed, for only $44 I got some of the best broccoli and chicken I've had in that dish, the pizza was perfect in all senses. I ordered online and retrieved my food within 30 mins of ordering it on Monday. While stopping in to pick up my order. I was met by a pleasant gentleman who got my order from me and took note of how nice this restaurant setting is and its versatility.
