I came here for dinner during the weekday and it wasn't too busy or packed. When you walk in, you see the main bar area and a few tables plated nicely. The interior gives me modern art museum vibes. Our waiter was so friendly and checked up on us often. We ordered a few apps, drinks, and shareable plates. I highly recommend the duck, sirloin, and chocolate tower for dessert. The only thing more exceptional than the food and cocktails is the service--specifically, the phenomenal manager, Adam and our super attentive server, Martin! This past Friday evening, my husband and I settled in for dinner at a cozy table and started with a Forbidden Fruit and a Noethern Lights. Both were excellent and blew our minds. We then had the Smoked Duck, which was so tender and adorned with the most addicting black truffle relish, and the Crudo, which was fresh and delectable. I was most extremely unprepared for how spectacular the Risotto was going to be. It was like eating a piece of art that fed my soul in ways I didn't know were possible. It was hot, rich, comforting, and just overall remarkable. Risotto can be so hit and miss at restaurants, but the Albert's impressed me to the core and was just what I needed after a long day of traveling. My hubbie had the Sirloin and loved his as well, just not to the intensity that I adored my Risotto. Adam came over to our table a few times to check on us, and each interaction with him felt like we were chatting with an old friend. He made us feel like we were the only guests there and his attitude and demeanor were the epitome of how every human working in hospitality or dining should be. We indulged in everything Martin recommended and because of his insight, we were completely full and happy by the time we finished. We were staying at the Hotel EMC2 and asked if we could take a final round of cocktails up to our room on the 22nd floor. The bartender, who was fantastic but whose name I never got, made our beverages and away we went, ready to sleep soundly and dream of magical forbidden fruit and risotto :) We'll definitely be coming back here on our next trip and hope to run into Adam and Martin again! read more

Unique decor and totally different design.... Even though it's a restaurant part of the hotel it has its own identity. Loved the drinks, the mixologist Mark was up for a challenge and made some drinks on special request. We came in rather late after a comedy show so ordered a bunch of shared plates. I loved the polenta board the best polenta ever, flat bread was good a little salty for me and the 4 cheese ravioli was delicious!Interesting to find so many vegetarian options. The food here is decent but not great. The service was definitely better than the food. Everyone is pleasant. The ambiance is cool. The gnats are a nuisance. We ate breakfast inside one day and dinner outside on another day. Each day our experience, food and drinks were ruined because of the insane amount of gnats. At one point there was a swarm of gnats around our table and food. We gave in and decided to just be done with eating our meal because we were so tired of swatting them away and a bit disgusted. read more

Had an amazing 40th birthday dinner at the Albert! The restaurant is beautiful inside with modern art, books everywhere, and so many interesting things to look at I could have stayed another hour just to take it all in. Some recommendations right off the bat- GET THE POLENTA BOARD. Do it. It sounds different, it is, but it was exceptional and our entire party loved it. We also had the salumi shared plate, smoke duck anti pasta, and the artichoke anti pasta. All delicious. Entrees were well received too! The risotto? Swoon. Big thumbs up for the tagliatelle as well. However, next time we may just go nuts and get all the small plates and anti pastas... or I'll just end up eating the entire polenta board by myself. Don't skip dessert! I really appreciate the complimentary slice of cake brought to the table for my birthday and everyone enjoyed their own selections. The olive oil cake is unique, but so tasty. Service was also fantastic! We had Ryan and he was friendly, attentive, and professional. Bad service can ruin a beautiful meal and instead our dinner was only further enhanced by having him at the helm. I can't emphasize this enough to the restaurant owners, I hope they read this- keep Ryan, hire more like him. He's got timing and personality and high-end down pat. This was before COVID-19. Our visit was on December 6, 2019. Sadly,  they are temporarily closed. Had a wonderful lunch at The Albert restaurant.  It is located on the ground floor of the EMC2 hotel.  An intimate space The decor is very interesting, an ecclectic mix.  There are authentic vintage library items such as thousands of books, bookshelves, even the card deck system from old libraries. It's a gorgeous space that reeks of old-time class. As others have mentioned, the service was slow even being on a weekday where there were only six other patrons We had the Smoked Sturgeon (auguachile, fennel and cucumber) and the Skirt Steak with a sunny side egg & tomato hollandaise. Both items were delicious and I would not hesitate to go back here again once they reopen. read more

Horrible experience. Joined my coworkers at the restaurant but we waited nearly an hour for our food. Once it arrived, they completely swapped my pasta dish for another. The manager threw the waitress under the bus, basically told me that ravioli and tortellini is the same pasta and that was that. Horrible experience! After living down the street for more than a year and working in the area for years on end, I have to say I'm now ashamed that I never set foot in here!! We finally broke that mistake last night, and proceeded to have drinks and pizza here with our good friends who highly recommended it !! we were waited on by the wonderful Aida and what a very private little corner upstairs! I had dinner at The Albert twice this last week and I was very impressed with the menu, service and warmth. It's a beautiful space that's well designed, with a massive bar. You can tell the pastas are fresh and handmade. I had the tagliatelle one night and the stracci the next, both were close to perfect. We got some pizzas as appetizers and they were so tasty, the food is seasoned and someone is back there making sure everything tastes right. Highly recommend. read more

Mind blown. We made a reservation for our 1st year anniversary and our experience was incredible. They took it seriously and it really made our night. The manager Adam was fantastic. He greeted us at the door and took us to a preset table with an anniversary card signed by the staff that even had paper flowers and champagne glasses waiting for us. Tripthi was our server and she was great! Anticipated all of our needs and provided wonderful service. The atmosphere is super classy and the food.. well 10/10 recommend everything we had: Mussels Fried artichokes Burrata Curried cauliflower Garginelle Ravioli And the drinks were where it was at.. I had the espresso patronum and my husband had the Vesuvius which was basically a smoked old fashion. Was in town for Mother's Day, and booked this place as soon as I saw it. It's aesthetic is amazing. All of the books, and located downstairs from the innovative EMC2 hotel. The staff was very polite, helpful, and friendly! We were here for the Mother's Day brunch, and it did not disappoint. The selections they had from the menu where so good and the buffets made it even better. Fine cheeses and cold cuts, to fruit, vegetables, breads, and desserts. This is the place for a quiet date, nice meal with the family (given the kids are behaved), and overall for any special occasion. If I could rate zero stars I would. From the second we walked in the service was horrible. We had to wait awkwardly for the hostess as we already had a reservation. We get seated and it takes 15 minutes for us to get served water. Ordered drinks and it took another 20 minutes to get served. Over 40 minutes later and we order what I believe to be a microwaved meal. If this place was a front for money laundering I would believe it. We were served the wrong drinks at first as two drinks on the online menu have the exact same descriptions. Odd. We get the check and we split our bill in half. We had 3 drinks, and 4 pasta dishes total. One of the itemized receipts we received, was listed as a bunch of random drinks that we did not order. I attached an image below. Very bizarre experience I would never recommend to someone I hate. Also, to get to the restroom it was down two flights of stairs that looked like it belonged in a parking garage, for the price of the meal- it was embarrassing to say the least. read more

I went there two nights in a row at 5pm on Sun and Mon. Service was consistant on both occasions. Staff very friendly and accomodating. Priced affordably. Inside the EMC2 HOTEL. Bar menu Sesame wings- crisp, lightly seasoned and a must have no matter what you order. Dinner menu Ravioli-the marsale was really pungent the first night. the second night there was cheese added and it muted the marsala taste. Very tender and flavorful. Arugula salad (sub romaine) the mushrooms and foccacia bread crumbs were quite salty. I didnt care for the vineagerette but once i mixed in Caesar dressing I liked it alot. Chocolate cake-it was decadent, it was plentiful and overall the dish worked but the actual cake was dry. Drinks I had the merit not sure what was in it but Ben my waiter from night one recommended it. Definitely would visit again, I'll actually try the brunch next visit to Chicago. read more

I went here for a dinner with a large group while on a work trip. I'd say the experience was about a 3.5. I'll start by saying that the service was wonderful. Our waiter, whose name I'd forgotten, was stellar. He handled our large group with ease while being polite and friendly. I didn't get a chance to take too many photos (I didn't want all my colleagues asking me a million questions about me doing reviews), but I did snag one of my entree, which was quite disappointing. Our group started with Salumi and a Polenta Board. The Polenta Board was quite different and it was really tasty, but seemed it should have been warmer. The Salumi (charcuterie board) was just okay. I was not impressed with the selection of meats and cheeses and it felt pretty basic. With the recent popularity of charcuterie boards and the ability to make an amazing one at home, many restaurants are failing to present anything, the average visitor couldn't put together themselves for much less. Finally, there was the pasta, which doesn't even appear to be on the menu anymore. It was the most bland and basic pasta I've ever had. I asked for extra shrimp and still only had about 5 tiny shrimp (it was clear that they cut the shrimp to look like more were added). Additionally, there was practically no salt in the dish and the sauce just seemed like flavorless oil (not even high-quality EVOO). Overall, I probably wouldn't return here on a trip to Chicago, as there are just so many better options. read more

We had two different experiences at this restaurant/bar. First, we came in during the week had a drink and it was a pleasant time. The bartender was very nice and attentive and even made some wine suggestions for us. The last time we came in which was on a Friday night was a totally different story. The bartender that night simply did not seem to care to assist us with any drinks. When we ordered it seemed as if it was a chore and when we went to order a specific bourbon he kept answering rudely. We also kept noticing he keep getting upset when we would order items off the menu and then he realized they had run out (as if it were our faults). Then when he finally made the drinks, they would be spilling off the top leaving your hands completely sticky from holding them. It was a complete disaster. Unfortunately, we are unable to recall his name. Unlike the bartender who had previously served us before during the week and was extremely pleasant, the one from Friday simply did not seem to want to work at ALL. I would stop in if the hotel gives you a complimentary breakfast. I do not recommend paying for the food. The vibe inside is dark, soft music, and cool artwork. Came to the Albert for a date night and the food and service were amazing. We ordered drinks and after only about 5 minutes the server came over to us with a complimentary glass of champagne as we had to "wait" for our drinks. My girlfriend and I both were really taken aback at the level of service since neither of us even thought it was taking a while for drinks. We ordered the Butternut Squash Ravioli and the Roasted Pasture Raised Chicken and both were phenomenal. 10/10 would recommend and shout out to Paul for his great service PS... I'm usually skeptical of hotel bars, but this one is an absolute gem. The interior is lovely, they always have incredible floral displays and a library wall that will keep your eyes engaged looking at all the amazing details. They also have a patio outside which is lovely! The menu changes often, but is creative, delightful AND delicious! Worth every penny! The cocktails rock...strong, well made and well-balanced. It's hard to beat the ambience of the Albert. There's a wall of books inside that is reminiscent of something that popped right out of Beauty and the Beast. It's not cheap and the portions are small, but it's a fantastic place for a ladies brunch. I'm not sure that guys will much appreciate dining here- they do have a burger item that is probably the most substantial dish on their brunch menu. I tried tried their salad, a smoked fish tartine and a pork belly Benedict. The salad and the fish tartine were both excellent. I absolutely loved the fish tartine- it had some cream cheese, onions and capers and all the flavors blended really well together without feeling overwhelming at all. Stayed in the hotel and had breakfast at the Albert every morning, and drinks at the bar every evening. The servers were kind, patient, and even fun. I wasn't too adventurous with the food, but I was pleased with the spinach and mushroom omelets, sausage links, and maple bacon. I also especially enjoyed the cinnamon French toast. Cocktails were great, especially the tequila, chambord, and ginger beer one (forgot the name). All in all the Albert didn't disappoint. read more
