Stopped in on a hungry whim. A very tame Irish pub, at least the night we were there. Our waiter Ivan, and other staff were very attentive. A great beer selection for an Irish bar too. I had the grown up grilled cheese and coleslaw. The sandwich was excellent, well toasted and flavorful. The slaw was dry with only a hint of dressing. My companion enjoyed her grilled chicken sandwich and had half left for the next day's lunch. All in all a good stop. read more

We stopped at D4 after walking along the lakefront and the Magnificent Mile. I had a Stoli and Sprite, my partner had a Guinness, and we shared the short rib quesadilla. The quesadilla was okay, but it was fairly standard bar food and not something I would specifically return for. The pub was a comfortable place to stop, sit down, and have a drink after walking around the city. Overall, the place felt a little corporate and not a totally Irish pub feel. read more

Order the Guinness first. Ours came out exactly the way a pint should, an unhurried pour, cool and creamy with a proper head on it, and that one glass told us the people behind this bar take the details seriously. Now the honest part, because I think it helps to know before you walk in. We came in hunting for an old Dublin snug, the dark wood and low ceiling and worn brass kind of place, and D4 is not that. To be fair to them, they never claimed to be. The room is modeled after a Dublin townhome, bright and open, traditional details sitting alongside modern ones, with two fireplaces and a garden patio out back. It is handsome and it is comfortable, and it also reads more American pub than Irish local. If you were hoping to feel like you ducked in off a rainy side street in Ballsbridge, set your expectations accordingly. The room was the one letdown of our night. The kitchen made up the ground. The fish and chips are enormous, easily enough for two, beer battered Icelandic cod that arrived crisp and clean instead of heavy and slick, which is a lot harder to pull off than it looks. Add the shoestring fries with truffle aioli on the side. Worth knowing, and it earns them some credit on the authenticity question: this is a neighborhood-owned place that has been on Ohio Street since 2007, and co-owner Brendan McNeill is actually from Ballsbridge, right inside the Dublin 4 postcode the name comes from. Four stars. If you want atmosphere that feels imported from Ireland, keep looking. If you want a perfect pint of Guinness and a genuinely good plate of fish and chips in Streeterville, this will take good care of you. read more

Swung by for a weekday meal with a coworker shortly after landing. D4 was easy to get a seat with a view of games of interest. Service was quick and friendly. We were hungry and didn't have to wait from order to drinks, soups, and entrees. You might not think of Irish Pubs for French Onion, but it was tasty. Less surprising was the (good) quality of the fish and chips. read more

Came here for a late night dinner with a large group from work. The waitress was nice enough to recommend local drinks. I ordered cosmo - which I wouldn't recommend. It is too strong... I cannot taste any sweetness from it... We ordered large portions of appetizers: cocktail shrimps, house chips and fruit salad. So when it came to the actual dinner, we were all full... I ended up with a chopped salad, which turned out to be good. (Not that it contains peanuts.) read more

I love this place so much! I discovered this fabulous Irish pub place almost a year ago while I was on vacation and now I live here and I was so excited to return. I was thrilled to see Juliana still worked here!! And she remembered me too! She has the most positive, amazing energy and provides exceptional service. Excellent cocktails. I enjoyed my Paper Plane and the Black Currant Mule knocked my socks off. Wow! So good! The Crispy Brussel Sprouts are incredible! The homemade sauces for the beer battered chicken are delicious and the chicken is so tender. Some of my other favorites include the short rib nachos, and the short rib quesadillas on their happy hour menu are phenomenal. The vibe is so good here! Spacious venue, with high top and low top table options. A few beautiful fire places. One room is filled with beautiful books and a fire place. Several TVs to watch sports. Pristine space and attentive service from everyone. I love everything about this place! read more

D4 was just what we needed on a cold blizzardy night! The space is beautiful and our server was so kind and went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and give us suggestions. We started with the poutine which was enough for our group of 6. It was delicious, so flavorful and lots of gravy! I had the shepherds pie and it was also very very good. I enjoyed a hugo spritz with my meal with was also very yummy. Great experience, we would all 100% eat here again! read more

My favorite Sheperd's pie in the city (so far)! I always opt to split it with a friend and for a small up charge they will do the splitting for you so that you and your partner can both get your portions served hot in individual cast iron skillets. Great place for a happy hour by the fire during winter or to grab a cold one on the patio during summer! read more

Very good food. Server was very nice and personable. Food came out fast and portions were good. I really enjoyed the fish sandwich. It comes with slaw on it. The chicken tenders were lightly breaded and good. Both fried items were not greasy. Daughter said the burger was really good. Service was a little spotty. I would have ordered another beer if our waitress came again. But she was taking care of several inside tables and the outside patio. Plan on spending $20+ per person especially if getting drinks. read more

Amazingly delicious, love a good Irish pub feel with a pint of guinness to throw back with some great food. I wish I didn't have to share the poutine it was so good. The D4 burger was cooked perfectly, and the pretzel bun it was served on was the best I've ever had. Our server gave great recommendations and was always there to help! It was so cozy in the little area we were sat in. read more

I've lived in the Streeterville area for almost 6 years and this was my first visit to this gem? It was epic! Met my friends here. Juliana was our server. She was friendly, attentive and on point! It was a special occasion and she brought it. We all ordered the fish and chips. They are famous for it, as I'm told. I can see why. Huge cod filets in perfect batter. Crispy exterior and moist fresh & tender filet of cod on inside. Fries were more than perfect. Coleslaw was good but cut back on the carrots. Also, not crazy about their version of tartar sauce. Luckily, the fish needed no tartar sauce. I'm not a fried food person, but I would make an exception for D4 again and again. Thank you for a great meal and extremely amazing service from Juliana. I will ask for her table every time. read more

Overall this place is good! Great service and pretty clean. I'm not sure about parking as I walked here. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. They have great drink options that mix beers and liquor or mix ciders with liquor. Love when places offer that on the menu! The Brussel sprouts were good but could've been a little crispier. The fries/curry chips we got were loaded fries and had coconut curry, cilantro, sour cream etc. they could've been really good but they lacked toppings. But I liked the idea of coconut and curry together on fries. Overall I would still come back!! read more

Had brunch here this morning with my friends, and when we walked in the place was empty. I was a little bit nervous, knowing that this is Chicago and there were not many people in the restaurant. By the time we left, the restaurant was packed and I can see why. I had the huevos rancheros and oh my God they were so good. The eggs were cooked perfectly and I save every bite I had until my meal was complete. When I was finished, I wish I had more. If you get the fish and chips, it is a huge portion so you could easily split it with two people. It was crispy in outside with flaky inside. Definitely too must have for brunch. We made reservations, so it was nice to have. In the summer I can see this place being packed and their bar seemed to be a popular spot as we walked out after brunch. read more

Another case of an establishment being hidden-in-plain sight. D4 is located adjacent to a condo building in Streeterville, with several businesses nearby. Although the entrance was somewhat tucked away, I followed the person in front of me who appeared headed in the same direction- ha! Once inside, I was met with a convivial, bustling environment. For a midweek evening, sans any major sporting event (to the best of my knowledge) the bar area was pleasantly packed. Fortunately, I did not have to try to situate myself, as I was attending an event as part of a group in D4's event space. The room, termed the Library and Lounge, is a cozy and convivial setting that invited mingling. Even though we came in with a group, the happy hour (4pm-6pm when I visited) was in effect, with wine and beer deals. I decided to splash out and order a Martini which was prepared to perfection. In addition, there was a bountiful buffet of select appetizers. I usually don't go for fried food, but the chicken on this occasion made for a delicious exception. Other standouts included the sliders and vegetables with various dips. I appreciated the spacious, modern, and clean vibes of this location, which combine to create an environment that is welcoming to a variety of patrons. read more

D4 was such a gem not far from the river and we were pleasantly surprised that there was a lunch special! For $14 we all good half a sandwich and our choice of soup, fries or a salad. I chose the Caesar salad and Turkey BLT which were both spectacular. I loved the sourdough bread that came with the sandwich. My friends got the soup of the day (potato and bacon) and another got the French onion soup. Both were great! read more

Always enjoy our local Irish pub/restaurant. The food is always delicious and they have several gluten free options. Two of us had salads. I loved my chicken chopped salad. The guys had chicken sandwiches that they enjoyed. We started with regular and sweet potato fries. So good and piping hot! Servers are always attentive and friendly. Ambiance is warm and cozy. Love sitting by the fireplace on a cool fall or winter evening and especially love the library room in back. Not available today due to a private party. Well this was a pleasant surprise! March '25 - after walking through some sleet and snow I entered D4 and grabbed a spot at the bar. I was immediately greeted by Marco and poured a nice drink. Within minutes, I was served some incredible chicken noodle soup! You can tell this was homemade - it absolutely hit the spot on a chilly night. After some pleasant conversation I opted to take a sandwich back to my hotel. Marco advised me to swap the bun for a pretzel roll. Boy am I glad he did! The sandwich was excellent - my apologies for not sharing a photo. Overall I found this to be a very comfortable spot with high quality food and service. read more

Overall great dining experience at D4! The chicken tenders are to die for. Brussels sprouts didn't miss either. Waiters were very attentive and service was quick to get out food and drink orders. Recommend a bit more seasoning on the fries. Other than that, you'll see me back soon!! Great spot for a casual drink or bite to eat. They also accommodate larger parties. Hadn't been to D4 in years, but we were in the neighborhood and went back. Still a great, solid place! Now we need kids menus and the chicken tenders and fries were really good. The fruit bowls were amazing- really fresh and large in size. Plus our waiter brought our kids a vanilla ice cream cone for dessert- huge hit! We started with the poutine- delicious and we split the corned beef sandwich. The corned beef was good quality, lean and tasty. All washed down with black velvets and old fashioned's- no complaints! Highly recommend the walnut old fashioned! Plus they had the place all decorated for the holidays- with a beautiful Christmas tree too. read more

Stopped in here for a lunch meeting with a partner during a recent work trip. The place was very cute and one of the rooms was set like a library with book shelves filled with books along the walls. I felt myself staring off at the to read all the titles a few times. There was a fireplace next to our table too which was perfect for the 32 degree rainy weather. Our server was great and attentive. The meals were delicious too. I do wish they had a couple more lunch options, they do have some soup and sandwich items (which one of my friends got and said was great) but I wanted one of the other sandwiches that wasn't on that menu. The sandwich I wound up getting was great but so big I only ate half. Overall it was a great option and we'll definitely be back next time we're in town! read more

Some of the best chicken tenders you will ever have! Every time I visit Chicago for work or pleasure, I make sure to swing by D4 for a Black Velvet and order or chicken tenders! Our latest visit in found us here on a Saturday afternoon in September, which was perfect patio sitting weather. We sat on the small patio and enjoyed the weather and our tendies. In addition, we ordered the short rib nachos. While the tenders were phenomenal as usual, the nachos were lacking a bit. The meat, while shredded nicely, was kind of dry and nachos themselves needed more sauce or sour cream. They were decent, but a bit dry all around. Service was good. It did take about 10 minutes from the time we were sat to get served, but once he got us, he had us. Inside is a beautiful, bright, but also dark wooded grandiose space that gives off the true Irish pub feel. It is at the base of a residential area with minimal signage, none that is flashy, so you got to search for it on your first visit in. But after that, you'll know exactly where those tenders are! Overall, love me some D4! I now know I need to stick with my go-to's only, which I am good with! read more

The only thing I ordered here was the chicken pot pie, so my review is just for the pie. The way the pie is served here is different from most pies I've had. The pie stuffing/filling is served in the pan and a round puff pastry sits on top. The puff pastry itself is pretty good. The texture is flaky and crispy. It's a bit on the dry side but still good. I unfortunately didn't like the pie filling though. The chicken was shredded breast meat and it was overcooked and a bit dry. The potatoes and carrots were "diced" but the diced chunks were huge. A chunk of potato would literally be bigger than the head of the dinner spoon. Thankfully they were cooked through and the texture was nice and soft, but the flavor and seasoning was lacking because the potato and carrot chunks were so big. This is somewhat redeemed by the cream base of the filling, which was quite tasty. The atmosphere was really homey and cozy. Service was fine but they were a bit understaffed so wait times were long. Neither factor into my rating, my rating is only for the food. read more

The buffalo chicken wings were actually pretty big in my opinion. They were nice and spicy and DRENCHED in sauce. Yes, it got messy. The grilled chicken sandwich was super filling. I LOVED the ciabatta roll. The sandwich had grilled chicken, baby swiss, bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and chipotle aioli. #beautiful Last but not least is the smokey mac&cheese- this honestly may have been the best mac&cheese I've ever had. It had white Irish cheddar, chipotle peppers, and a garlic panko topping. It was creamy, a little spicy, and the panko added some nice crunchy texture. This mac&cheese was stupendous. ‍ read more

We were here on a busy Saturday night. The Irish decor was awesome. Our server Jordan was awesome. I was debating on what to drink and when I decide on the spiced daiquiri, Jordan said it wouldn't disappoint. He was so right. It was the perfect drink to have during the fall. It is a seasonal drink they offer only during October -November. There was some confusion with the table next to us who got their food before we did. We had been there longer waiting.
