Great bar and happy hour. I got a glass of Pinot noir with my meal to start. We shared the full ceasar salad, which was a nice big portion with crispy lettuce. The side of brussels was tasty but roasted (not crispy) with a soy sauce flavor. The shepherds nachos were basically like the shepherds pie ground beef on top of potato chips. We went here for the lunch special and the burgers were delicious! I loved the bbq one with the pretzel bun and onion rings. It was so good I wanted to go back again!! I came with my one year old and they do not have high chairs, but he was able to sit at the bench with me. The burgers were made to order and took a little long for my one year old, but not too long for a nice sit down lunch. I also loved the onion rings. You really didn't need a side with the large burgers, but our group shared the onion rings. My dad got the side of homemade chips. They were good, but a little crispy...none of us usually get those as a side, so it's hard to compare, but would choose something else. This was such a great spot in downtown Chicago! read more

Stopped by for a few drinks & apps on a Saturday afternoon. Service was the WORST I've ever experienced at a restaurant. I'd give negative stars for the service. After sitting in the bar area we waited forever for a server. She took our order and we didn't see her again. Had a different server bring our drinks and food and even got us refills. When we were done we waited 20 minutes for the check...and I had to track our server down to get it!! Best part was the drinks. The tiramisu espresso martini is the best I've ever had! I've attended and hosted several events at Pippins and have always had a good experience. Their events staff is very responsive and sent me quotes for my food very quickly. The same goes for the on-site staff, who were very willing to help with coordinating the details of the event. They were attentive and friendly. This place was really cool I loved the dim lighting and the old school tavern feel of the it. This was the first bar I stopped at on my journey it wasn't many people there 10 tops. Found the host got a table it took way too long for anyone to come so we went to the bar instead. The bartender was friendly and attentive I got my classic margarita up, no rocks! The happy hour prices were reasonable and there was an extensive selection. The food was all SO good! Each item was plated with great care and was pleasing to the eye. Caveat: be sure to ask the quantity of charcuterie "cones" on its happy hour menu as, to me, its plural use indicates two or more but we were told only one is served per order. YMMV. The new Pippin's Tavern is definitely not like the original but I loved it! The big corner restaurant and bar is beautiful and a little snazzy. The focus is on the giant center bar. So we decided to have dinner there. The bartender was super nice and helpful. He was friendly and knew the menu well. He answered all of our questions so we could decide what to order. We loved our cocktails , salads, sides and appetizers. It made for an entire meal. Everything was fresh and expertly made. Then we went downstairs to the piano bar and had a great night. The piano players were talented and had greats attitudes. Stopping into Pippin's without a plan, ended up being a great night! read more

Thai wings were legit spicy and the cheese balls with the tomato bisque like dip were great. The steak sliders were large but a bit dry but crabcake was good. Let me start by saying that I remember the old Pippin's Tavern and this is a vast improvement. They have a neat spot down the road from where they used to be and its much bigger and much cleaner. We sat at the bar for some beverages. The bartenders were great and friendly. Every drink we ordered was nicely curated and tasted delicious. Had an awful service experience here during a post-Christmas staycation. Two of our 6 entrees didn't arrive with our food. No one noticed. We brought this to our servers attention. She very meekly apologized and went off to take care of it. It was 20 minutes before the other entrees arrived and the rest of us were now done eating. I've worked in restaurants for many years. Everyone makes mistakes. An error like this usually gets a visit from a manager, a strong apology and commitment to rush replacements out and, at minimum, comped items or a round of drinks. We received none of that. After most of us had finished but the other meals hadn't arrived, the hostess who was otherwise friendly stopped by to check on us. When we told her we were still waiting for 2 more entrees, she replied "Oh, that's not my area, your server will handle that." WTF??!?! When the bill arrived one of our party rushed to grab the check as a gift to the others but didn't review the bill. After reviewing it post credit card charge, we saw we received no discount and were charged for a beverage we never received. My wife brought this to our servers attention. She looked at my wife like she was an alien and asked what she wanted done. She told her she didn't want to pay for two entrees that were 20+ minutes late. She stormed off and disappeared for 10 minutes. At this point we just wanted to get out of there. She finally reappeared flustered and flinged $40 on the table without a word. Any normal restaurant would have rerun the card. On the way out one of our party saw her complaining to another employee, possible the never seen or heard from manager. So very odd from a longstanding business and restaurant group with multiple locations. The food was okay. Wife's pot pie was excellent, my corned beef sandwich was dry. $3 upcharge for truffle fries was pointless - no flavor difference. read more

Terrible! We ordered two glasses of wine$13 each. Two completely different pours, although both were bad. My friends was maybe 2 small sips. I cant believe what they try and get away with. We told the bartender and she gave us a tiny bit more in the glass. Ridiculous, why dont you just charge $13 for an empty glass. Some friends and I were visiting Chicago from Dallas. While walking around exploring the city, we became hungry and walked into the first restaurant we saw - Pippin's. OMG. What a great decision. Outside looking in, I expected basic food and service. However, the food was soooo good. We ended up ordering more AFTER finishing our meals and then went back another day. Highly recommend the drinks, the oysters (and I don't even eat raw oysters but these were amazing), the shrimp (WOW), the steak bites (CHEFS KISS), the butter cake (I CAN EAT 5 of these lol). I don't usually write reviews, but our experience hosting a surprise party at Pippin's 100% deserves one. From planning everything with Sophia and Courtney to the day-of execution, the whole process was seamless. The food was great, and the staff went above and beyond to keep everything replenished and fresh based off our preorder. The bartenders and servers were super attentive and friendly-- no one ever had to wait long for a drink. Even after our rental time, the staff kept treating us with the same amazing hospitality and energy which we really appreciated. I also wanted to give a huge shoutout to the managers, Kyle C. and Courtney. Even with another event happening downstairs, they constantly checked in to make sure we had everything we needed and were happy. Courtney was also super helpful leading up to the event -- she answered all my questions about the venue and helped us set up early. And last but not least, Anna (our server) and bartenders Christian and Zac absolutely crushed it all night. We couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. About a dozen members of our organization met at Pippin's Tavern for a Meet and Greet earlier in March. Sophia and Courtney and all staff members were accommodating and helpful in arranging the event, and the service was wonderful. We had tall tables near the windows at entrance, where we could mingle freely and also enjoy the light and the street scene. The beverage menu and the happy hour prices were excellent. SPD dinner 2023! Made reservations at Pippin's and was relived they allowed our kids in for an Irish meal. Service was slow, but we expected that and had no problem waiting for food and drinks. Pippin's did have live entertainment and there was great people watching around the bar. Food was good but I considered it a little overpriced for the quality and serving sizes. The fish and chips and shepherds pie were winners in the flavor department - but we weren't crazy for the breakfast burrito or potato soup. I want to like this place. I want it to have great food and drinks well because I live nearby. I stopped in for the first time the other night and ordered a house salad and played it safe with ordering a beer. The bartender was very nice and attentive. The atmosphere inside is clean and inviting. I personally enjoy sitting at the bar so I like how much bar seating is available. The salad was 6/10. The lettuce looked very fresh but the garnishes in the salad were weird. I would keep it simple with a basic house salad. I asked for blue cheese dressing and it was off. There were two solid balls of blue cheese just in the salad but you couldn't see it throughout the dressing. I did get a tummy ache near the end of the evening and all I had was the salad so I'm not sure. I would highly recommend removing the heavy tints from the windows so people outside notice that Pippens is on the corner. The sign outside is wooden and easily blends in. The windows are very dark outside making the place look closed or not even there. I think updating the signage and brightening your outdoor lighting would be a huge benefit as I believe you are in a great location. read more

I will *always* miss and prefer the old/original Pippin's. It's was a true gem nestled in all of the [evident] changes that had occurred around it over time. A place that felt genuinely authentic, where you could be your real self, amongst all of the glitz and pretentiousness that downtown brings; a piece of history and a part of Chicago that's almost gone.
