Full size ceasar, side of Brussels, shepherds nachos
    Clara S.

Great bar and happy hour. I got a glass of Pinot noir with my meal to start. We shared the full ceasar salad, which was a nice big portion with crispy lettuce. The side of brussels was tasty but roasted (not crispy) with a soy sauce flavor. The shepherds nachos were basically like the shepherds pie ground beef on top of potato chips. It was a nice big shareable, but I'd order something else next time. Service at the bar was great.

    Tiramisu espresso martini

Stopped by for a few drinks & apps on a Saturday afternoon. Service was the WORST I've ever experienced at a restaurant. I'd give negative stars for the service. After sitting in the bar area we waited forever for a server. She took our order and we didn't see her again. Had a different server bring our drinks and food and even got us refills. When we were done we waited 20 minutes for the check...and I had to track our server down to get it!! Best part was the drinks. The tiramisu espresso martini is the best I've ever had! Gave 2 stars for that alone.

We went here for the lunch special and the burgers were delicious! I loved the bbq one with the pretzel bun and onion rings. It was so good I wanted to go back again!! I came with my one year old and they do not have high chairs, but he was able to sit at the bench with me. The burgers were made to order and took a little long for my one year old, but not too long for a nice sit down lunch. I also loved the onion rings. You really didn't need a side with the large burgers, but our group shared the onion rings. My dad got the side of homemade chips. They were good, but a little crispy...none of us usually get those as a side, so it's hard to compare, but would choose something else. This was such a great spot in downtown Chicago!

    Happy Hour: Sliders

Pippin's is a great place to stop in and have some drinks and a bite to eat. The inside has your typical Irish bar feel which is great. We went for a Happy Hour so it was BOGO appetizers. The service wasn't so great though. Our server was very nice but she forgot about us for about 30 minutes, especially when we were trying to pay or bill and leave. I don't blame her, it looked like they were just short staffed.

This place was really cool I loved the dim lighting and the old school tavern feel of the it. This was the first bar I stopped at on my journey it wasn't many people there 10 tops. Found the host got a table it took way too long for anyone to come so we went to the bar instead. The bartender was friendly and attentive I got my classic margarita up, no rocks! He hit all the right notes shaking that thang ! We did ultimately decided not to eat.

Thanks to the team at Pippin's for a lovely evening filled with delish meals, tasty drinks, great service (thanks Nora!), and a warm welcome at the door! The happy hour prices were reasonable and there was an extensive selection. The food was all SO good! Each item was plated with great care and was pleasing to the eye. Caveat: be sure to ask the quantity of charcuterie "cones" on its happy hour menu as, to me, its plural use indicates two or more but we were told only one is served per order. YMMV. Pippin's was a fantastic experience from start to finish and I highly recommend it. Sincerely, Patrick Shaughnessy Chicago, IL

    Irish dip and Moby Dick

Really good service I had the Irish dip and it was deliciously amazing. My daughter had them Moby Dick and she said it was phenomenal. Came back later in the night. The bartender was really sweet. Told us and recommended a place that was open till 2 o'clock in the morning. The bathroom is downstairs so I don't think it's a wheelchair accessible. The ambience is pretty chill laid-back.

The new Pippin's Tavern is definitely not like the original but I loved it! The big corner restaurant and bar is beautiful and a little snazzy. The focus is on the giant center bar. So we decided to have dinner there. The bartender was super nice and helpful. He was friendly and knew the menu well. He answered all of our questions so we could decide what to order. We loved our cocktails , salads, sides and appetizers. It made for an entire meal. Everything was fresh and expertly made. Then we went downstairs to the piano bar and had a great night. The piano players were talented and had greats attitudes. Stopping into Pippin's without a plan, ended up being a great night!

Happy hour bogo apps, wine and beer. French onion bomb was savory and heavy, but after 2 I was done. Not so thrilling, but not bad.

Service was fast and the food was good. The booth we were in had torn up seats. I would come back again.

Just fine bar food that is a little over priced. The service was SLOW! I'd avoid it for that reason alone.

Of course you can smoke weed at Pippin's. You're also welcome to stand naked on the tables while shouting how much you dislike Mike Ditka and Harry Caray. However, I would highly recommend you do neither of these things.

We were so happy with everything! Our server was wonderful! The entire staff was so friendly and on top of their game! We never waited for anything. They were immediately refilling our waters, offering more bread, removing dirty plates, replacing silverware, and offering the next course. It was perfect! The views!!! I think there's not a table in NoMi that doesn't have an amazing view. The main, large window faces the lake (East). Arriving just at 7, you get the full affect of the city, and lake, and then the sunset and lights of the buildings. It was absolutely magical. I couldn't get enough of it. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and clean, but honestly it could have been a pit and I wouldn't have noticed. You'll be focused on the views for the entire evening. The food!!! Everything is very fresh. It's all well-prepared. Everything was delicious. There's a good variety of dishes to choose from. Plenty of healthy, low-carb options. We each ordered our own appetizers. I had the crispy Maitake mushrooms and my husband had the mussels. We both loved our food and left nothing on our plates. Excellent choices, that we highly recommend. As our main course we shared the sushi platter. The seafood was fresh and the sushi didn't have too much rice. It was the perfect amount of food with our appetizers. They have an extensive wine and drink menu. For drinks I had a glass of the Sauvignon blanc and my husband had a red blend. For dessert we weren't really hungry enough to eat anything else but my husband wanted a pallet cleanser. They have a few sorbets. My husband settled on the cherry cola sorbet. They brought it out with a little chocolate that said "Happy Anniversary" in French. They did not add it to our bill. Very sweet of them. It was probably one of the best anniversaries we've ever had. The bill was about $230 before tip. We highly recommend coming here for any special occasion.

That said, this place just completely disappointed. The food was just not good. I had the burger sliders and for $9 a piece you expect them to be something special. They were not. Overcooked with a little sauce and two pickles slapped on the bun with a tiny little dab of fake cheese - it was like a bad and way more expensive version of McDonald's. The onion rings were the frozen crumbly kind not the fresh beer battered kind and so that's a big "no!" for me. The dipping sauce was okay. Service was friendly and I think the guy was new but it wasn't good enough for a place like that at the top of the building. There were two servers so I'm guessing one was training maybe. They didn't make it to my table to check to see if everything was okay while I was eating and it even took them a while to notice that I was done eating. It's was slow so I don't think they were stressing with too many tables. That kind of place should knock your socks off - but it was on the low end of mediocre. I wouldn't go there again for food. Maybe it's a decent place to go to the bar but since I don't drink I can't help much on that end.

For parking you definitely should use Spothero or ParkWhiz, as it's in a very busy/lively part of River North. We loved meeting the owner who was chatting with and checking on guests in the dining room. The menu was really creative and sounded amazing, totally up my alley, so was super excited to try Ila's out for the first time. Unfortunately, and it pains me to say this, but the food itself was a miss for me, and the prices felt steep for the portions. We ordered the empanada duo, grilled scallops, birria lamb pierogis, and sweet corn agnolotti, then the Japanese cheesecake and drip coffee. The positives were that everything tasted fresh, and the flavors of the dishes were good ~ especially the empanadas, scallops, and agnolotti. The main issue was the texture of some of the foods. Other than the empanada (which had a great texture and flavor), the agnolotti and pierogi dough were not right ~ thick, rubbery, and dry, which was exacerbated by not having enough consommé for the pierogis. And the coffee - it honestly tasted like Folgers (though I'll give them the benefit of the doubt) - which took me aback as it was a $7 drip coffee. I'm not discounting Ila's and I truly wish them success. But I think there's some work to be done in terms of execution.
