I come here regularly for happy hour or weeknight dinners. Their food is pretty good for being a late night tavern. The burger, the steak and eggs sandwich, the wings, and the flatbreads are all above average. Just as importantly though, the service is friendly, it doesn't break the bank, they have sports on the TVs, and they have a good selection of draft beers. They're also open late night more as a club, but I don't have much experience here at those hours. read more

Happy Hour prices are good. Was at the venue for a special event that took place on the second floor. We were really early so ventured to the bar for some $5 you call its. We ended up getting Spicy Margarita, Whisky Cocktail and a few shots. Spent only $22 bucks. Downgraded to 4 stars as the bar staff were not very inviting. They seemed distracted and I seen more staff fill up their cups of water/soda than attempt to serve us. It was quite a contrast of hospitality from the private event upstairs. The host was kind and the waiter was nice as he helped us get our food delivered upstairs (as that was where the event was) so we can go up and get started. This was my first visit 7.3.26. The host was very nice and accommodating. She made sure my table was cleaned and ready for me to be seated. The waitress (do they use this word anymore) who took my order was also nice. I originally wanted the appetizer, I believe it is called potato chip tenders. They were sold out. I opted for the chicken and waffles. I was hungry and although the concept of dipping chicken breast and waffle batter and frying it is creative...it did not taste good. The seasoning of the chicken was absent. The presentation was nice and it was warm but it was not appetizing. The waitress understood my concerns and accommodated me accordingly without having to ask. I did order some fries to go...those fries were definitely good. I would've given 4 but the food knocked that off the board. The place was full but not where people were standing around which I appreciated. I was the only person of color aside from the host as the time I was there. May either say a lot about the place or maybe it was due to the flaming temperature outside. I asked about a song request given how empty it was/since it was my bday, and the security guard was immediately aggressive for no reason. Then the vibe took a SHARP turn... what was happening on the dance floor got extremely explicit, with people even recording and no staff stepping in, which was confusing given their very offended response to song requests. No cover was the only upside. Would honestly not recommend here in any other capacity. :( read more

We had our company holiday after party here. We came fashionably late and we welcomed with some rowdy karaoke set up on two big screens and some slightly tipsy coworkers. Everyone was having a great time. It was open bar and catered. I had a beer but my better half knocked it off the table so I went with a house red with a firm grasp on it. We enjoyed dancing along to my coworkers singing their hearts of and kept up appearances I have introductions to the people I work closely with. The turn out was great. Unless you only care about Steelers, steer clear. There are 2.5 levels with must be over 30 TVs. All were playing the Steelers game. I get it's a Steelers bar, but it's also Sunday and 3 games on at once - including a BEARS GAME. We had to ask multiple staff to turn one TV to Bears and were eventually granted our wish, but got lots of pushback, eye rolls, and passing of the buck ala "check upstairs" and "this is a Steelers-themed bar". Never been to a bar that bans other games. Disappointing because if they'd just be slightly more inclusive it would be a good time. It's fun to watch the patrons celebrate their Steelers while watching multiple games. read more

This place needs to take a hard look at its security staff. My girlfriend was dragged out of the bar thrown to the ground and left injured simply because she didn't hear a bouncer say "excuse me." There was no attempt at communication just immediate force that left bruises on her. Nearby police got involved. When they came to speak with the bouncer, he was nowhere to be found and appeared to be hiding inside the building instead of facing what happened. No customer should walk out of a bar hurt because a staff member couldn't handle his emotions. A bouncer's job is to keep people safe, not to overpower someone and hurt them. Management needs to address this immediately before someone ends up even worse off. read more

Completely loved our time at Hopsmith. We didn't plan on coming but selected by random a bar to walk into on division street and this turned out to be super fun! The bar was easy to snag a spot and the bartender was nice and attentive. We ordered a few different mixed cocktails and beers and later on some chicken strips - super good by my account. The vibe is kinda cool, although it doesn't fit in with the local area. I had fun there, but I really struggled to find out what their theme was. It turns out that it was supposed to be an Australian theme. It was a cool tavern like environment with very friendly staff. They had about 30 beers on tap, including several Chicago labels and other Midwestern labels, It's a very clean and laid back place. I'd go back there any time for a cold brew. I could not hear myself think. I get that it was a Saturday night at 8pm, but it's at unsafe levels. It peaked at over 110 decibles. Consistently over 100, OSHA wouldn't even allow that with no ear protection. We asked to turn it down and it got louder as the night went on. The food is an assortment of bar options burgers, wings, sandwiches, pizza. I ordered the nachos and they were baked which I loved because they were baked. The cheese was super crispy in some parts and super gooey in others. They also had a ton of chicken on them that was grilled but still moist and delicious. The guacamole comes on the side and is very tasty. I'd suggest ordering two based on a large size of these nachos. My friend got the chicken sandwich which she enjoyed as well. Absolutely do not go here. I was hanging out with my friends talking in a group and the manager apparently said excuse me for us to make a path for him. I did not hear him since the bar was very crowded and very loud. He immediately got angry and started yelling in my face "did you not hear me." I was startled and scared so I shook my head no. That seemed to anger him further and he proceeded to force me out of the bar. He got a bouncer to forcefully drag me out of the bar. I did absolutely nothing wrong, just did not hear the manager and I became a target for assault. No hands should've been put on me like that. Our well is kettle one , I would have surely ordered another not worth it watered down drink , maybe try working at Costco bud , you can openly care less and at the end of the day probably make more money. read more

A friend suggested we meet at Hopsmith Tavern for a drink and some snacks while my boyfriend and I were visiting Chicago last summer. I'm so glad he recommended this place, because we had a great experience at this Michigan State bar. There were only a few other people inside when we were there, so we got to sit next to a big open window, which was great. I don't think they have any outdoor seating but this was a good compromise during the warmer months. The bartender serving us was really friendly and gave some good recommendations for food. I had a pineapple mojito which was very tasty and refreshing, and not too sweet. We ordered nachos with chicken and their huge mozzarella sticks. The nachos were piled with toppings and I didn't see many naked chips, which was definitely a plus. I like my nachos pretty smothered. All the toppings were fresh and the chicken wasn't dry. I loved that they had shredded cheese AND queso! I'd definitely get them again and it was a huge portion.
