Can always count on The Vig for a good cocktail or food! Solid spot with a variety of offerings on their menu. Nice patio for summer. Kind attentive servers.

I've been wanting to try this joint for SO long. WORTH the wait!! The entire idea behind The Vig and the concept behind the name Chadrick the experience all that much more. I'm not a salad guy, but the Homer Greek was fantastic! The Moroccan Turkey burger had multiple flavor profiles - A MUST! We sat at the bar, the bartender knew his bourbons and suggested a momentous choice for me. Upscale, moody speakeasy style ambiance - my favorite. Thank you Vig team, this experience was awesome.

Vig is always a treat. They are consistent with their quality across different locations. The first VIG that I ever visited was in Phoenix. Felt nostalgic to come to this location in Old Town Chicago. I have been here for brunch and happy hour. Food quality was good. Drink prices and service was on par. We were lucky that they still had the Frose on tap. That drink is delicious. We also like the quality of the Cheeseburger and Fries. The aioli that comes with the French fries is so satisfying to dip your potatoes in. Don't sleep on their late Happy Hour as they don't end until 7pm.

Long overdue review for The VIG in Old Town, Chicago! I stopped by during Lollapalooza 2025 and wanted to try their spreads--and wow, they were so good. Let's just say I got totally carb-wasted after lol. The restaurant has such good vibes, the staff is friendly, and the service is fast, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great snack / meal in the city. Definitely a spot worth checking out if you're in Chicago!

Came in for happy hour after a long day of work. Had an old fashioned that was perfect. Service was great and also enjoyed a burger.

    Chimichurri steak - medium rare

This was my first time at The Vig after living in the neighborhood for many years and I enjoyed it! We came with a large group (11 people) and our server (Serena I believe?) was absolutely fantastic. She gave great recommendations and was very attentive without being overbearing. I ordered the chimichurri steak cooked medium rare and really enjoyed it. The steak was well cooked and the chimichurri was fresh and not overpowering. The potatoes that came on the side were surprisingly very good as well. My cousin ordered the steak and fries which she enjoyed but her medium rare steak definitely bordered on the rarer side. I have a gluten allergy and the menu was well marked and easy to understand. There is not a gluten free bun offered but you can get some of the sandwich options without bread. The table ordered the parmesan fries and meatball as appetizers, both of which were enjoyed by all. I liked that the fries came with both a chipotle mayo and garlic aioli. I decided not to drink this evening but the cocktail list looked appealing and the sip of sangria I had was very good! My only other complaint is that the restaurant can get very noisy which wouldn't be an issue at all with smaller parties but with a group of our size it did sometimes feel like we had to shout to hear each other. Glad to have finally tried this place and will considering coming back in the future for a happy hour!

Espresso Martini (made with Mile High vodka!)

My mom's in town so we stopped for happy hour drinks and apps here and loved it. I was especially excited to see they had some drinks made with vodka from the Denver distillery I used to work at (the server even went back and checked for me!) Here's what we ordered: - Lobster Deviled Eggs - Espresso Martini - Chandon Rose - Frose (vodka drink with a pretty hibiscus flower) The eggs were super flavor packed, although its funny there were only 3 (where did the last half of the second egg go..) The Frose was refreshing, sweet, and spirit-forward. The espresso martini was as straightforward as it gets and delicious. All good notes from mom on the rose (: Service was friendly and personable. Overall vibes were great. I recommend the outside patio - it's super cute and Old Town is a fun neighborhood to sip in.

Good for a late night bar food, I liked the deviled eggs and the burger. Drinks were good, loud, fun atmosphere not a bad place to visit while in Chicago.

Goodnight Danny Trejo and Old fashioned

Old school vibes with speakeasy style. The VIG is a swanky spot for a happy hour. Menu items are unique and flavorful. The Goodnight Danny Trejo packed a spicy punch that was equally complimented by the mango. Not overly sweet at all. Old fashioned was solid, too. Don't skip on asking about their frozen cocktail of the day! When we went, it was a divine strawberry margarita.

Great Forster visit on a Thursday night. Restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived for our 5:00 reservation. By 5:30 it was nearly full. Great drinks. Great food, friendly service and fun, lovely vibe. I loved the ambiance of the well-decorated interior. My husband chose the happy hour chicken sandwich. Very tasty. I decided to go for the salmon, which was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Artful presentation. We followed our meal with a show at Second City which is steps away. Fabulous night!

My group of friends and I had such an amazing brunch experience here. During our trip to Chicago, we had to try this restaurant known for their tasty brunch food. Parking was a little difficult since it's mainly street parking but thankfully our party of 5 was seated a few minutes after we arrived. After looking over the menu, I went with an order of the Brisket Hash. While waiting for the food to arrive, the table agreed on a mimosa tower. Its arrival to the table was spectacular! They had sparklers and high energy when distributing the drinks. I appreciate that it's a single tower, enabling each person to pour as much as they desire. The food arrived and everything we ordered looked, smelled, and tasted amazing. All the flavors of my dish meshed so well together and everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their food. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting or living in Chicago.

We drop in at night when it's more drinking than dining. It's usually packed with standing room only. It's a younger crowd, 30's mostly. The music is loud and it's hard to carry a conversation. The drinks are super standard, as they use the shot pourer and stick to the measurement. I've never been a fan of bartenders that can't free pour a good drink. We tried the appetizer and they're standard restaurant food. Not bad. It's great place to people watch.

Great drinks and happy hour deals. They also have matchboxes. The meatball was huge and delicious. I wish it would have had a little more cheese in the middle though lol. Lobster deviled eggs were great, very mustardy. I sat at the bar and enjoyed the vibes. Great place to meet friends and hang out. The service was great too.

The first course included swiss Gruyère cheese fondue with assorted breads, vegetables and fruits. After that they brought out Prince Geja's combination which was beef, lobster tail, shrimp, chicken breast, and sea scallops which you were able to cook in the boiling hot broth. I really liked how there was 8 different side sauces brought out so you could add some more flavor to the meat and seafood. The last course was chocolate fondue served with marshmellows and a side of fire. It was as if you were making smores because it also came with some graham cracker sprinkles. It also came with some fruits to dip into the chocolate fondue as well. The service was great. It was nice they had a coat check. A guitarist sits somewhere against a brick wall and plays music lightly but energetically. Service is friendly from start to finish and smiles are on everyone's faces. The menu is pretty easy to understand. You can get a three-course meal, or you can get each entree à la carte. You have two fondue candles in front of you, one for the cheese and dessert, and the other for the oil. We chose the three-course meal, and it was delightful. We started with the cheese appetizer. You get a basket of bread and fruit and we chose the seasonal cheese to dip. The oil for our meat was then left to heat, and we received a massive platter of veggies and meats for our main course. We chose the option for all selections of meat and seafood. After trying all the meats, I would opt for the lobster and shrimp. You can also substitute the oil for a broth. I would like to try the broth for next time. In one of the shakers, Gejas makes their own meat spice mix. It's recommended to put on the meats and even the desserts. It's a mix of tangy and savory and was a great compliment to the meal. We then chose the seasonal dessert, a white chocolate with vanilla cookies. Fruit, marshmallows, and churros to dip. We were so full by the time dessert came, but we enjoyed a few bites and took it home. The three-course meal, with five types of meat, came with about 10 pieces of meat. It doesn't look like a lot of food, but it truly is, with the apps, veggies, etc, your stomach will be full when you walk out of here. They also start the entire course with a mixed salad (so technically it's a four-course meal). It was very fairly priced, as well. Initially looking at the prices, you may think it's expensive, but it truly is a value with the amount of food they serve. This was rated as most romatic restaurant in Chicago. Its ambiance gives you the romantic feel, the guitarist adds to the atmosphere, and the staff is professional and friendly. This really was a great place and we enjoyed our time and meal.

Not many Michelin starred restaurants can pull that off on a Monday, but Esmé always seems to have energy. This place has become one of our most reliable favorites. They change the menu a few times a year in conjunction with rotating local artists, and the restaurant itself feels more like a refined art gallery than a traditional dining room with white walls, clean lines, simple and elegant. Last night was no exception to their usual excellence. The experience is really anchored by Chris Gerber, a longtime Chicago hospitality pro, and his team. They are flawless. This is true hospitality in every sense of the word. They usually keep two signature dishes, and for good reason. The caviar supplement sounds odd on paper, but in your mouth it is absolute perfection. The cod sounds simple, but it is anything but, rich, decadent, and always one of the highlights. Everything new on this menu was also outstanding. Every course had beautifully balanced sauces that made sense with the dish, and the presentations were creative without being gimmicky or over the top. The plating always ties in with the featured artist in a way that feels thoughtful, not forced. One tip. Be careful when choosing your beverage pairing. We did not read closely enough and ended up with the more inventive pairing that included cocktails and a beer. It was fun, but afterward we wished we had gone with the higher end wine pairing instead. Bottom line. Esmé remains one of the most consistent Michelin starred experiences in Chicago. To echo several of the reviews below, the salad was awkward to share and scanty, the soup was good but the bread served with it felt like an afterthought, the sturgeon wasn't anything special though the sauce was quite good, and we are pretty sure the cut of beef was not wagyu or if it was it was not cooked the right way. The beef was the most disappointing part, I couldn't even chew through all of it. The add-ons were the best part - pasta was great and our dessert was delicious. I've definitely had better. Wouldn't order again.) Fourth Course: Orange Ricotta Donuts (Donuts were very good. Three were served, a few more would have been more filling.) My friend ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and: Truffle Fries (Fries were very tasty. I would order again if I went back.) Beef Wellington (The breading was buttery and very good. The beef could've been more seasoned. I wouldn't order.) Key Lime Pie (Was not sweet and had no taste. When our server came back and saw it was uneaten, she offered to take it off the bill. It should be removed from the menu altogether.) The busboys and server were very attentive. Our water glasses were always filled. OVERALL The atmosphere was nice, our server was great. Of all the food we ordered, I would order the truffle fries and Cosmopolitan again. I did leave full and did take my leftover Short Rib to go. Main dishes needed more seasoning. I would dine here again and try a different menu (brunch/lunch), or Happy Hour if they offer it.
