LOVED this place. The ambiance is fabulous - modern, light, and airy but with an elevated but approachable neighborhood feel at the same time. We sat at the bar for happy hour and ordered dinner as well. The bartender wasn't super nice but I think he warmed up to us. The happy hour is great!! $10 hh wine and several great food items. We split the steak frites, chopped salad, and brussels sprouts. The steak was my favorite for sure! Also got the monkey business, a banana espresso martini and it was so good! Went for happy hour and sat outside. Outside seating is simple sidewalk dining. The inside was so cute, modern and simple! We shared guacamole and chicken bites from the happy hour menu. Good deal! The house bread was great, Alice texture and onion flavor. The guacamole's was okay, it was more mashed avocado with corn and cotija cheese. We stumbled upon this place walking around on a Friday evening and it was packed! They sat us at a cute tiny table inside and the service was phenomenal. Even though they were busy they took time to attend to us, our waiter checked in with us often even when we could not decide. Our drinks were a washed gin-based cocktail that was phenomenal. I had this place bookmarked for quite a while and finally made a visit happen last week. They had just opened for the evening so we were looking for an early bite. We ordered a couple of appetizers like the sweet potato tots as well as the Mediterranean salad. They also had a happy hour menu so I tried the nitro Negroni - quite lovely. The restaurant is super spacious and welcoming, with plenty of seating options from bar seats to high-tops, and standard tables that can be combined for a larger party or give a couple their privacy. I was most impressed by the warmth of every staff interaction - the smile and friendliness of the hostess, the diligence and subtle guidance of the server, and even the attentiveness of the busboy. read more

Overall I enjoyed DJs great room. The inside is really cute and I like that the tables are spaced out in a way where you don't feel you're on top of the people next to you. The free bread is basically a hamburger bun and while I always love free bread I don't think this one's anything special. For an appetizer, the calamari was pretty good. I liked the flavor of the marinara it came with and I liked the addition of the deep fried jalapeños and artichokes. The chicken parmesan was good but I didn't necessarily care for the side of pasta it came with. Personally I didn't care for the bolognese either but I'm also not a huge bolognese fan. This feels like a great spot for either a date night or a casual gathering with friends. DJ's Great Room started us off with complimentary bread, which was soft and tasty. For appetizers, we ordered the Spicy Calamari, Oysters, and Crispy Mozzarella. * Spicy Calamari: The portion was on the smaller side, as it was blended with fried tomatoes. Considering the price, the serving felt limited. * Oysters: Served in increments of six, we ordered half a dozen. They were very fresh and flavorful, and with three different sauces to pair, we enjoyed each bite. * Crispy Mozzarella: Four pieces paired with tomato sauce. A simple and standard dish. For the mains, we shared the Chopped Salad and I had the Baby Back Ribs. * Chopped Salad: A mix of greens, peppercorn salami, soppressata, ditalini, mozzarella, and more. The flavors were well balanced, and the freshness of the salad stood out. The contrast between the salami and greens was just right. * Baby Back Ribs: This dish does not come with a side, but our server Johnny kindly reminded us. I would recommend ordering a small side with it. The ribs were very well executed--cooked at the right temperature to keep them moist, with a layer of barbecue sauce that enhanced the flavor perfectly. We ended with the Cookie Skillet, which came out piping hot and was paired with cold ice cream. The hot and cold contrast made this dessert both fun and satisfying. We came in around 5pm on a Saturday and were able to get bar seats because the restaurant was surprisingly empty! The bartenders were great, and I enjoyed my mango margarita. I didn't love the cup it came in though- I bought the same ones off amazon so I feel like they could have used nicer glasswear. The ambiance was nice though but interestingly the garage wall made it seem much more casual of a restaurant. We ordered the Rigatoni a la vodka- not the best in the city but certainly well done. The sauce was tasty but not very spicy. The chopped salad was refreshing and tasty as well. The Brussels weren't crispy but still very flavorful. The truffle fries were pretty standard. All were nice big portions to share. It's a great crowd-pleasing spot so I'm sure I'll be back some time soon to try other dishes and drinks! read more

We went to DJ's right before going to a concert for the evening. After hearing from people who have been there and reading reviews, we had very high hopes and expectations. And we were not disappointed. We had reservations (fortunately) so were seated right away. We had a wonderful seat by the window with a view of the Gold Coast. The server brough us water and fresh, hot bread as we reviewed the menu. We decided to order an appetizer before we ordered, and got Brussel Sprouts, which were actually on the menu as a side dish. I admit, I'm not much for Brussel Sprouts (not my favorite), but these were delicious. I also had their House Old Fashioned, which was very nice. My partner had a chopped salad, and I had the Greek Chicken. She loved the salad, and the Greek Chicken, and I'm not joking, was probably the best I'd ever had. I also had truffle fries on the side, which were outrageous. I have some food allergies we let them know about in the beginning. They did make a small mistake but rectified it and they made it right. This was a wonderful meal, one we'll remember for a long time. I definitely plan to return for another special occasion. read more

I went here last night and I cannot stop thinking about the vodka rigatoni pasta and how much I want it again ASAP. Also, the service was amazing - super friendly and helpful waiter and we didn't feel rushed - and the place is really beautiful, with a cozy but classy vibe. I wasn't able to take my own pictures, but the pictures in the Chicago Eater article are 100% completely accurate pictures. The pasta looked EXACTLY like that - a good sized portion that actually filled me up when I was starving, tons of creamy sauce, and the incredible spicy breadcrumbs all over. I have a really weak spice tolerance, and it was definitely a little spicy, but not overly so. The cake also looked exactly like that, except even bigger than it seems - it was a giant slice, perfect for sharing between a few people, and very good. Also, a little loaf of fresh bread was given to us when we sat down, which was fluffy and yummy and came with what I think was whipped butter, but I'm honestly not sure, but it was tasty. read more

Cozy chic ambience and a great location. Our server was very attentive. The food, however, was a different story. I made the mistake of ordering the Poke Bowl because I was in the mood for lighter fare and tired of salads. my companion ordered steak frites. We were both very surprised when out server delivered our entrees within 5 minutes of placing order, which in my opinion is never a good sign. sure enough, the steak was overcooked (requested medium). We flagged our server and he graciously offered to take the uneaten steak and serve a new one, which was cooked to medium but much smaller. The poke was the least inspiring bowl of food Ive ever seen. TINY diced tuna and (VERY FISHY TASTING) himachi served on a mound of rice with a small handful of tiny diced cucumber and edamame, swimming in a ginger dressing and topped with fried wontons. As a sushi lover, I was so disappointed. I ate the edamame and little bits of tuna and could barely choke down anything else. I was tasting that himachi hours later. I thought about sending my food back due to the fishy ammonia flavor but didnt want to be difficult since we had the send back the overcooked steak. I might return for cocktails but for $188 I'm certain we can get a much better meal in the neighborhood. read more

This was my second time here. The first time I went was dinner and it was average, solid 3 stars. Just went for brunch and it was so so so bad. 1. They don't really do any iced coffee drinks like an iced latte so if you're hot and want coffee your SOL 2. The portions are enormous but the food is bad. The omelette was insanely large but so watery and gross and not really an omelette, more like scrambled eggs. The frittatas were also enormous and so midd. The omelette was just eggs and tomato and then there was a small hunk of cheese on one side. 3. They couldn't get the orders straight or bring food on time. One person ordered an omelette no cheese and sswapped potatoes for fruit and came 10 minutes late but with cheese. At the end we realized another person at our table ended up with no cheese but she had wanted cheese. 4. House potatoes had no seasoning and were so bland 5. The toast that comes with the eggs didn't come and after asking 3 times it came when we were almost done. Also the place is always pretty empty, it's so hot out and they Sat us at first at at table in the sun with minimal AC when the whole restaurant is empty. 0/10 would recommend read more

First off, this is a really nice place. High ceilings, large bar, great ambiance. But for me, that's where the greatness ended. I was lured by their IG post stating they had "Chicago's Best Happy Hour". I go to A Lot of happy hours, and this is NOT it. My old fashioned was OK at best. I prefer a large cube but they only had the small Ice. For food, we ordered Truffle fries, Brussels Sprouts, and Thai Chili Shrimp. The fries were just ok. The Brussels Sprouts tasted burnt, and 3 bland shrimp for $15 that tasted like Tabasco sauce was the only seasoning, is a pretty terrible "Happy Hour" deal. I give 3 stars based on the ambiance. The food was 1.5 stars. Maybe the regular menu has better options, but based on the happy hour flavors, I will not be back to try it out. read more

Saint Patrick's Day is not complete before you visit Kori at DJ's Great Room on North Wells. The food is above par the service is genuine, the atmosphere is ALL you need it to be. Kori the host will seat in a great area. No seating is bad that you have the best views of Wells and Locust. The servers are amazing. & most important the bathrooms are SUPER CLEAN. Pretty disappointed in this place. We were there to celebrate our friend's birthday and did not have a great experience. To start, our waitress was unwelcoming and pretty rude. And the Happy Hour itself is a joke...the portions are extremely small (only enough for two people) For our entrees, we ordered the Chopped Salad, Rigatoni Alla Vodka, and Steak Sliders. All the food came out cold, despite our waitress hassling us to put our orders in. All the food was average. The place itself was cute but the ambiance was weird because it was pretty empty for a 6P Friday night.
