We were scrambling to find a good spot that wasn't packed during Mother's Day, so we gave the VIG a try. It definitely did not disappoint! I got the chopped salad with fried chicken, and it was HUMONGOUS. The chicken was crispy and all the veggies tasted so fresh. We also got the shoestring zucchini, and it was very tasty but slightly salty. Additionally, we tried their mini tacos, and they tasted so fresh! The service was great since they were able to seat us on a busy holiday, and they brought out the food pretty quick. They even wrote what food was in the to-go containers and the date it got packed: so thoughtful! The ambiance was very pretty, and it had a very nice theme going on. Overall loved it and it was a nice happy hour on a Monday. We did feel a bit rushed by our server, so decided to head out once we got the check although we were planning to order another drink and mentioned that before the bill was brought over. Awful experience. Came in after Taste of Randolph festival because we like the Old Town location. A member of my group was unable to move out of the way for the bottle service due to overcrowding. He was then shoved to the ground by a security guard who then started waiving his flashlight in his face unprovoked. I firmly believe the security guard would have kept going if I (a woman) had not stepped in front of him. The security guard then sized our group member up for at least one full minute while I urged him walk away and go continue doing his job (flash lighting lol). It was really weird and frightening behavior from a 50 year old+ employee that could land them in a lot of legal trouble. Management only offered two drink tokens after another group member complained. The tokens were then declined by the bartender. Poorly run institution that needs to 1) run better background checks on their security guards / make sure they're not violent 2) put up roping/boundaries by the tables to avoid overcrowding where they do bottle service There are much better bars/restaurants in the area that won't tackle to the ground. This is a great spot for happy hour and late night. During happy hour (which runs until 7!!), it's a fun environment with lively music and crowds but without sacrificing on service and quality. We had a couple of glasses of wine and appetizers to share. The gnocchi is a tasty dish - I love that this is on the happy hour menu and still a big portion. The oysters were fresh and tasty. The shrimp wonton tacos are a refreshing bite. The sweet potato fries were a tasty shareable as well. I also got the side ceasar salad, which was good. At the end of our meal, I tried the takeout cocktails which was fun (came in a takeout box) and refreshing. Came here with two of my girlfriends before heading to a show at City Winery. We've been to the Old Town location plenty of times before but never to this west loop spot. We got starry eyed at the Girl Dinner option which was $25 for shrimp cocktail, caesar salad, parmesan fries and a dirty martini. I unfortunately don't eat shrimp and was in the mood for an espresso martini, so two of us ordered our own version of girl dinner! We got an espresso martini, a side caesar salad, and a side of parmesan fries. We also got oysters since they were a happy hour special. We loved everything that came! Had a great time here during their happy hour. I got the rotating frozen which was a pina colada. It was surprisingly strong and I very much appreciated that after a long day. We ordered the gnocchi off the happy hour menu which was quite mid, don't see myself getting that again. The star of the show was the zucchini fries!!! They were never ending!!! And it was a good thing too bc they were scrumptious. They had the perfect crispy texture and were topped with a mountain of cheese. Did I mention they're zucchini??? On a bit of a whim, our first meal of 2026 was The Vig in the West Loop. A beautiful, large space on the corner of Carpenter and Fulton, The Vig is an upscale casual restaurant with more than something for everyone. You are greeted very warmly upon entering as you marvel at the ambiance - they were very thoughtful about designing the interior of this space, gorgeous. They have an excellent happy hour menu, where we each ordered a $10 old fashioned and a plate of shrimp tacos. As others have mentioned, the old fashioneds are some of the best in the city, great balanced flavor without ever being too strong or too sweet. Extremely impressed. The shrimp tacos were equally good, crunchy tacos with tender shrimp in a delicious mango salsa. For our mains, we haven't had such a difficult time choosing between options in a while. There are so many great items to choose from, you second guess yourself with what you're not ordering haha. In the end, because we wanted to split the zucchini fries (good, but a little greasy), we each had a sandwich. I loved my chicken pesto sandwich, a great balance of flavors and a juicy chicken breast. I will say, the bottom of the bun became overly soggy almost instantly, I ended up just removing it. But the flavors and cook were there. My wife's crab roll sandwich was also very good, holding together nicely in that delicious, buttered split bun. Perhaps the best thing we had all night was the olive oil cake for dessert, wow. So, so good, with homestyle vanilla ice cream on top and sprinkled with a very cool plum powder that brought the whole thing together. There are a ton of great restaurant desserts in this city (hello, Hogsalt), but this is up there. So, for such great food, why only a 4? Well, the service was...not so great. We were completely ignored by who we thought was the served for our section for the first 10 minutes (she was taking care of the table to our right, and the table that was seated after us to out left, and took their order without even touching our table). Luckily, another server caught this and got our drink orders, while yet another server from the other side of the large dining room ultimately became our server. While this final server was lovely (even comping a mistake from the kitchen), she wasn't able to be as attentive as she wanted to be due to the strange table assignment. We truly appreciated her, but the first 20-30 minutes was definitely a bit strange. The other thing is, as others have mentioned, this spot has a bit of an identity crisis. Are we upscale casual or a sports bar? It's not a huge deal as the prices are extremely fair for the quality and area, but the DJ music and vibe seem to conflict with the aesthetic and food. I'm not necessarily complaining because we enjoyed every bite and loved the price point, just interesting to note. The food is worthy of note, but perhaps not a "special" destination for an anniversary or something. In the end, a five star food and value experience with some room for improvement on the service side. Looking forward to coming back to try some of things we didn't on our first visit! read more

The VIG West Loop is my all-time favorite late night hang out and bar in Chicago. From the drinks, to the music, and to the other dancers and entertainment, I always have the best time. The bartenders are always nice and have a heavy poor and the whole establishment is always very clean. It's perfect for large or small groups, because the open dance floor is spacious and such a good time. I have never eaten there personally, but always enjoy the cookies at midnight! I've heard great things about the food, especially the brunch, and hope to try it one day soon. If you're ever in Chicago, The VIG should be at the top of your list! read more

From the moment we walked in, the hospitality at The Vig stood out. The manager (Jay, I believe!) personally greeted us at the door, offered to take a group photo, and along with the hostess, guided us to our table. That thoughtful touch set the tone for the entire night. The decor, ambiance, and overall vibe are beautifully executed. Even though it was later in the evening and the restaurant wasn't very crowded, the atmosphere still felt lively and welcoming. We were seated in a spacious booth that struck the perfect balance between intimate and open. We decided to order several dishes to share, and every single one was a hit--beautifully presented, delicious, and just as appetizing as they looked. Pair that with the great music, and it made for such an enjoyable experience. One fun detail I have to mention: the bathroom is totally "photo-shoot worthy" (yes, I said it ). Sat at the bar for a snack and wine, before heading to dinner. The vibe confuses me. It's a mix of fancy sports bar and sexy lounge. They have great, moody decor, with games playing on the tvs and buckets of beer coming out with fireworks. Music was loud and bumping (not in a bad way). It's a bit of an identity crisis....but as far as some drinks at the bar it served its purpose. Staff was super friendly. They have a full bar and various signature cocktails. I opted for red wine and it was great. Some fries to nibble on were the perfect snack. It's served with an aioli to dip. It was early so there weren't that many ppl there. I'm sure I'll be back. The Happy Hour at The Vig is perfect. I got Sangria and the burger and fries. This is definitely one the top 5 burger places in Chicago, maybe even top 3. I don't like toppings and the burger taste great without them. My only negative comment would be that the waitress didn't let me know there was a $5 up-charge for the bacon, which kind of defeats the purpose of me ordering it for happy hour. I was thinking ($2-$3) not a huge difference but something to be mindful of. The ambiance is very chill but they are open late especially on the weekend and have a DJ booth so I can only imagine how lively it gets. The Vig will definitely be seeing me again. read more

I came here as part of an event on a Thursday night. We had several tables reserved for our party towards the back of the restaurant. It was a bit of a struggle to get there as the restaurant was crowded. We had a table on the side with finger food to dine on such as mini burgers and mini tacos. Everything tasted great. Had reservations for brunch on a Saturday. First of all, the place is so cute! The decor is great! We started with a round of coffees, which were very tasty. I got the brunch burger, which was unique and absolutely fantastic. The "buns" are very crispy hash browns, the sauce on the burger is like a Mac sauce, but better. Has some pickled peppers in it that add so much flavor. Burger itself is great too and the egg added the perfect texture. Other members of the table got the skillet and said they were delicious too. I tried a bit and the potatoes were perfectly cooked and the chorizo was very tasty too. I went here for happy hour and it was a good experience! It is a little pricey for happy hour but it's a nice restaurant and we got a lot for what we paid for. First off they have blended drinks and they blend it soo finely, not icy at all and pretty strong. I was a little disappointed in the oysters but they were $2 so you get what you pay for I guess. The shrimp wonton tacos were super flavorful and crispy. The gnocchi was good but not as flavorful as I expected it to be. The star of the show was the fried chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. Although it was $16 for both it still was a good deal for the quality of food that you get. Very familiar with the Old town location and enjoy it quite a bit! When I heard they were opening a West Loop location, I was very excited! Came over with a good friend for brunch this past Sunday and it was a good time! They had a DJ in so the music was louder than what Im used to but its all good! I started out with the Naked & (Famously) Cold mezcal cocktail which was fantastic! Took down 2 of them as they were so good! Quite a few goodies on the menu but the Crab Fried Rice caught my eye. Topped with a fried egg and chili glaze really set it off...I highly recommend! My friend had the steak and eggs and loved it! Good vibes going on here and kind of a clubby atmosphere as you will see the girls walking around with sparklers delivering drinks here and there, but its all good! The appetizers were just okay. We were there with a group and tried Caesar salad, tuna, deviled eggs and zucchini fries. Tuna was the best thing on the menu that evening. It comes crudo on baked rice squares topped with a slice of jalapeño. Entrees choices were steak which was overly salted and served with soggy fries; gnocchi which were tough/heavy with vodka sauce overly salted; and lamb lollipops that were tender and cooked nicely (fortunately not overly salted). A fun spot if you're looking for plenty of TVs and a DJ on the weekends. The space is beautiful and there's plenty of large booths for groups of 5 or more. For our meal my friends and I split the bao buns, chicken and waffle, and zucchini fries. The zucchini fries were delicious and I would definitely order again! Our waitress was very good with the descriptions of the food. We had the calamari, deviled eggs, and some tuna something I didn't try. All were good according to the party. For dinner I had the fried chicken with pimiento cheese Mac and cheese. Very good plus it is all dark meat which is right up my alley. The place has a few TVs and outside seating. To say our server was...indifferent would be generous. We saw her twice after the food was delivered, when we needed refills or more syrup. By the time they got back to us, we figured it was simpler to say hell with it and go without. As for the ambiance, why are we going for REALLY LOUD UPSCALE SPORTS BAR WHEN THE MUSIC IS SO GOTDAMNED LOUD? We were at a table for four and had to yell at each other; no idea if anyone else in that space heard anyone that was not within a foot or so of them. You can't be EDGY in a quiet spot; I get it. DO NOT book a table here for a sporting event or if you plan to remain seated for more than 90 minutes. I reserved a table specifically for the Bears/Packers game and was not informed at the time of booking that the reservation was limited to 1.5 hours or that we would likely be asked to give up the table mid-game. This information was only shared after we arrived. Better yet, the said they have the same policy for every single bar stool at the bar. I explained to both the staff and the manager that I booked a table intentionally due to recent knee surgery, as standing for extended periods is not an option for me. Unfortunately, no accommodation was offered. Instead, I was told the reservation could be canceled, as the policy allows no exceptions. Limiting table reservations to 90 minutes during a major sporting event--without clearly communicating that in advance--sets unrealistic expectations for guests and made for a disappointing experience. read more
