Tucked upstairs at The Soho House in the West Loop and sitting behind a set of saloon doors, Fox Bar is an absolute unexpected speakeasy vibe for cocktails and a good time! We wandered in after dinner nearby and wanted a chill cocktail, we got the cocktail, not so much the chill...and that was 100% okay with us once we realized what we came upon at the top of that staircase. While small, they have all the goods for classic cocktails and even several house curated drinks. You can basically get dealers choice, which is a rotating house cocktail and it will run you around $13, which is the price that most cocktails came in at. The drink menu is seasonal and changes often, but they still sling all the classics and really anything you can think of. My partner went with a house cocktail, but I was after an espresso martini...and honestly, this doesn't seem like an espresso martini place, but they came through and it was a delightful nightcap for sure! Been to Fox bar several years in a row (first encounter was back in 2018), and it usually doesn't disappoint. The staff is friendly and helpful (even got a free glass of champagne to celebrate my friend's birthday). It's an easy spot to walk into and, if you're lucky, plop down on one of the seats until closing. The bar's a little hidden in the SoHo house building, and once you're inside behind the swinging saloon doors you're welcomed by a cosy dive bar setting. If there are three things that made the experience this time around less optimal: the bar seemed to have attracted some rowdy/intrusive drunks (we got harassed a few times), the bar area itself had a puke-y smell going on, and the time it takes to get a drink can be quite long. read more

I'd heard good reviews about this bar so my friend and I decided to check it out. When looking up the address it looked like it was in the Soho house. We went in to the lobby and all we saw was a lobby bar so we decided to go up the steps to the second floor. The second floor looked like it was an empty event space. We saw saloon style doors and pushed them open and there was fox bar! I didn't realize it was a speakeasy. The vibe in there felt as if I was back in the 70's. The barback is a spry and spunky little guy who's super hot and is really good at picking up glasses and cleaning them. Very cool hotel bar. It's inside Soho House, you go to the right, past the downstairs bar, which is called The Allis, and up the stairs. Enter through the Old West saloon style doors. On a Thursday night the place was uncomfortably packed, so we had our drinks downstairs in the lobby. The drinks are solid, you can't go wrong with one of their signatures or a classic. With tax and tip, drinks will cost about $19-20 apiece, but we enjoyed them. Nice staff, too. read more

I scanned the room, and immediately felt at home: a few tables, a wall of Polaroids, soft lighting, and a handsome drink menu. This little bar den is extremely hard to find; but once you find it, you'll find yourself in a cozy den. Fox Bar. We sat around a four person wooden round table. I ordered a Ginger Snap Hot Toddy. Another thing to warm my soul. Every cocktail on the menu was unique. Small place with a menu that packs a punch. Noise level was quiet at first, but it didn't take long for this place to fill up. Cool place to enjoy some well-crafted cocktails. We came before a dinner reservation at a nearby restaurant, so it was earlier in the evening and not too busy yet. Since it's basically a little tucked away room with less than ten tables, I was happy we were able to snag one. We also snagged a phenomenal bartender! While my friends both ordered off the regular cocktail menu, I was being annoyingly indecisive; without hesitating he asked what type of base spirit I liked, followed by a series of other questions, and offered to craft me something special. I love Fox bar - it's tucked away and I don't think I would have found it if my friend hadn't shown it to me. You go up to the second floor of SoHo House and through some swinging doors on the left to enter a cozy space. They have Polaroid pictures up on one wall and wooden decor. Overall this bar has an intimate atmosphere that makes it a perfect place to take a date. The cocktails are phenomenal! I highly recommend them. If you have questions, the bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable. Just tell them what you're in the mood for and they'll point you in the right direction. Cocktails are $13 a drink. I tried 3 different drinks: the Top Shape Cocktail, the One Man Army, and a drink with absinthe in it. Definitely try the Top Shape Cocktail! Interesting, dive bar located inside SoHo hotel. When you walk in the hotel, you have to go up the stairs on the right. Once you walk past the saloon doors, you're in a small, intimate place with a DJ playing music and bartenders doing their thing. Got the gin and tonic and a mezcal drink. Liked both of them, G&T was refreshing but I liked the mezcal drink better. It was very well balanced and couldn't taste the smokiness of the mezcal. It's got a speakeasy vibe to it, mostly because it's pretty hard to find. Through the saloon doors, it's got a vintage decor all over the place, dim lighting, great spot to hang out while waiting for your dinner reservations, or even just to hang out. The bartenders were super attentive and helpful when it came to selecting drinks. We got Top Shape and Genever Fizz, both very unique combinations and delicious. I don't know if this is a true speakeasy bar, but a bar that can be easily missed twice and makes you ask for directions on how to get here qualifies for one in my book! The bar's sign on the outside of Soho House is inconspicuous, and the name is written in small letters on the dark door. Once you're inside Soho House, it's not apparent where to go to get to Fox Bar. However, the Soho House bartender directed us up the stairs on our right. As you walk up the stairs, you see the name again written in small letters on a stand. At the top of the stairs, you walk down the hallway and can miss the bar but it's actually hidden behind saloon doors on your left! Very cool. This is a very intimate bar with dim lighting and perfect for a group setting or date. Tables have candles, and the atmosphere just exudes a sexy vibe. The bar has small Moscow Mules hanging and $2 bills plastered on the cabinets behind the bar. Seating is first-come, first-serve. Fortunately, our group of four found a table at 8:30pm on a Friday night. Around 9:00pm, all the tables were taken. I ordered the Catt Damon while my friend ordered the Shannon Rose. The Catt Damon was only alright, but I love the name! The drink is not too sweet or tart, but it didn't blow me away. However, the Shannon Rose was amazing and had a unique flavor that hits you right away and makes you say, "Wow!" So next time I come here, I'm totally ordering the Shannon Rose or trying a new drink. There aren't servers here to take your drink order, so you'll need to order at the bar. Service was decent. We were able to order fairly quickly, and the bartender provided recommendations on what to order. Cocktails are $12 each. Add this to the list of cute bars that can cover your facial imperfections due to dim lighting. read more

You probably won't find it just walking around, since it's pretty hidden- you have to be either looking for it or be pretty lucky to stumble upon it. I love the vibe of this place. Big on cocktails so we searched for the best spot in Chicago for drinks and landed here. The Fox bar had a really nice vibe, record playing with a little bit of everything in the music genre​. Got us two seats at the corner of the bar, and was greeted by Will. Will could automatically tell we weren't​ the typical "vodka and club soda" and proceeded to make us cocktails. Hands down, phenomenal​. The consistency​ of the flavor​ he was making were insane. He made me a gin and ginger (FRESH) basil or rosemary, I don't​ even remember but he joked "It's like you're getting drunk and healthy at the same time". Really cool dude, really great atmosphere and overall highly recommended if you enjoy ridiculous creations​. Trust the bartenders! They know what they are doing. Ascend the stairs at the south end of the Soho House lounge and look for the doors on the left, just before Chicken Shop. Seating is always plentiful, even though this bar is small. The vibe is fun, and refreshingly low key. Attentive bar tenders, attractive cocktails and great local draft brews await your call. My discerning beer loving friends and I often find ourselves bar hopping around the hood. Fox Bar has nudged it's way into the rotation with Beer Bistro and Lone Wolf. It's one of my favorite bars around. And you probably didn't even know it was there. read more
