I showed up looking for a spot, ironically after longer wait times elsewhere, this was the 3rd place i visited. Very happy I did. The food was simple & very good. I use simple not in a bad way, but in a straight to the point way, it was refreshing. Charlie was fantastic, very sweet & knowledgeable, she recommended me many different of her favorites, not afraid to connect with a customer, loved that. Will be back. read more

Food is delicious and service was great and quick. We were able to get seated quickly for a party of five and our order in and the food came out quickly. Price seems a bit steep by portions were very large vibe is casual tonight and I love the location and proximity to the beach. We were able to walk right on over afterwards. I will definitely come again and probably share additional dishes. read more

In the heart of Lincoln Park, this little family owned gem was walking distance from the hotel. We shared an order of Pancakes and French Toast. The Pancakes were amazing they were light and fluffy and I added fresh blueberries that were layered in between the 2 big pancakes so every bite had blueberries in it. The French Toast was huge. It was 3 big slices of fresh sourdough bread and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Open from 7am - 9pm everyday. All day breakfast is served and there's brunch on weekends until 2. This is a great neighborhood spot, if you want to stay away from the tourist areas, this is a winner. read more

We had a nice brunch at 3rd coast cafe. I ordered the Betty, which is avocado toast and fruit. The fruit tasted very fresh but I wish my toast was a little more toasted. My friend ordered the steak and eggs and found his steak a little tough. My other friend ordered the granola and loved it. Our server was very kind and attentive and the place was cute. read more

This place is surprisingly packed on a Friday noon. Service was relatively slow and took about 30 minutes before we got the food :( We ordered French toasts, house omelette, and cobb salad. Unfortunately the stuffed French toasts was only available on the weekend. Cobb salad was pretty basic, and the grilled chicken was cold. French Toast is also basic. Nothing wrong, good, but not something you can't get elsewhere. However, the omelette was fantastic! If felt like they did it similar to takagoyaki (the Japanese omelette) - the omelette is layered and rolled up. The ingredient was chopped in the right size and the ratio of egg and other ingredients are also perfect! I noticed many customers there ordered sandwich, which looks tasty. Will go back and try some next time! read more

What a hidden gem in Chicago , great location, very cool atmosphere and love the art work. The food was all fresh and cooked perfectly The service is 5 star Met the owner, she makes you feel like a guest in her home. Will definitely go back anytime I'm in town. Can't wait to try dinner and the wine selection next time. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed read more

I came here today to give this place another shot. Unfortunately I won't be back. Due to the last time I came here to get back to my place only to find my food completely burnt and today with the horrendous customer service I experienced from the owner. There is a wrong and right way to talk to people. I highly recommend going to other establishments that properly greet their guests and bring up concerns in a decent manner. read more

Solid spot for brunch in Gold Coast. We stopped in around noon and there was a line. The wait was only like 20 minutes, but there is barely any room in the restaurant to wait so you'll end up either outside or in the apartment lobby. They also do not take reservations. I went with the Italian Beef, which came with hot peppers and au jus. They don't have fries so the side of hash browns was odd, not bad but just odd. I'd definitely come back. read more

Enjoyed breakfast here two mornings in a row. They have several gluten-free options, including gluten-free bread. I also grabbed a sandwich to go for my flight home. Everything I ordered was delicious. The coffee was great. The service was wonderful and the ambience in this beautiful historic building was lovely. read more

Food was plentiful and delicious. Service was also excellent. Only waited a few minutes for a table on a Sunday morning. Highly recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast here! Service was friendly and the food was delicious. We ordered the Mexican Steak & Eggs and Pulled Pork Hash to share. both of which were full of flavor. Steak was cooked medium rare, exactly how we asked (which sometimes feels rare at a diner). Both breakfasts were a nice hearty portion. If I had to pick a winner it would be the pulled pork hash, but you can't go wrong with either. I'm glad my boyfriend found this spot, because I wouldn't have noticed it just from walking by. Its entrance is tucked inside a building, in an area surrounded with apartments, homes, and some hotels, so I never would've expected a restaurant to be here. read more

Great staff and family friendly. We go probably once a week with our toddler. Sometimes just me and her and the staff is always attentive and friendly. I never hesitate to bring my 2yo because we feel so welcome. They also have plenty of highchais and boosters. It can get pretty busy for brunch but the wait is never too long. Good variety of food always something to please everyone and I love that they have breakfast items all day and special brunch items on the weekends. Neighborhood staple! read more

3rd Coast was right around the corner from us and was a quick pit stop in the morning. The service was incredibly fast, and we got in and out within 15 minutes. I applaud them for making great food at such a quick pace! We ordered the Diablo Beef with no cheese. The sandwich was great with the au jus. The bread was crispy and wasn't the type to cut up the roof of your mouth. So eating it was a pleasuring experience. The sandwich is a bit small though for the price. The hashbrowns were okay. The outside was crispy, but the inside was mushy which kind of threw it off. read more

Ate there tonight with a family of 13 people. The owner and the staff could not have been more accommodating!! They made food for the kids that was not on the menu. For me and my family, 3rd Coast Cafe is a NO! The location is great because it's a few blocks from my house. The atmosphere is quaint, quiet and has an upscale feel to it. The food was horrible. I ordered the pulled pork hash. I imagined it would be more along the lines of corned beef hash. I didn't think it would be pork and onions inside of hardened hash browns with 2 slices of cheese on top. Especially priced at $18. I took one bite and sent it back. My husband had pancakes, sausage and ham. He ate the meat and took his pancakes to go but ended up tossing them before we got home. He says they were too hard. My kids had pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon. The bacon was overcooked. 1 of my kids didn't like the eggs. The service was fine. Our waitress was very sweet and accommodating. She offered me the menu so I could choose another item but nothing else was appetizing to me so I ate nothing. I can not recommend this place and we will not be returning. read more

Slow service, small portions and the food is mediocre. Pancakes were decent. Would not return. Thanks Janet for your reply and sorry to hear about the chef--hope all is well now. The poor service I was referring to came from the server as we needed to make our request several times (extra napkins because she spilled coffee in the saucer the cup was placed on and an extra plate as we were sharing some items) before we were able to receive them. read more

3rd Coast is consistently the best homestyle food in the neighborhood. Perfect for takeout, which is always timely, or a quick weekday meal when you don't want to cook. This is the first place I visited since my hotel didn't have breakfast and it was only a couple of blocks away. We tried the breakfast tacos, chocolate chip scone, pulled pork hash, farmers omelet, coffee and fresh OJ. A couple things about the menu I noticed immediately was the price of their root beer and the word "toast". It's basically a soda and comes in a can....its just A&W.., but why the heck are they charging 3.25 when a coke is 2.50 and also comes in a can. Secondly, when you see that an entree comes with toast on the menu, they mean a bread to be toasted, and you get to choose which bread you want....not actual slices of toasted bread, like most other restaurants in the US. Overall, the food was good, service was excellent, place was homey, and I would return if I was ever in the area again. read more

Absolutely one of my favorite restaurants to eat at. I love the Tuna melt, its one of my favorites sandwiches to eat with soup, which by the way is well made soup. I've eaten at many restaurants in Chicago and no restaurants has made a tuna melt as well as Third coast cafe. There are so many dishes to eat at this restaurant, there's breakfast, lunch and dinner. The atmosphere is just so welcoming. The staff is very welcoming and helpful and just very professional. I always tell people that if you want good food go to too third coast cafe. You won't regret it. read more

This is my 2nd time going to 3rd Coast Cafe for brunch. Both times I have thought everything about it was very mediocre. I've tried some sort of egg dish each time (farmers omelette this time) and both times it's just okay? Like it tasted fresh enough, but the hash browns were really lack luster & the omelette had barely any cheese. Service is nice, but extremely slow. It took almost an hour to get two omelettes? It's in the basement of an apartment building & I know it's somewhat of an institution, but after giving it two tries, I don't see myself returning. Chicago has so many good places, why go somewhere mediocre? read more

This is right next door to Claridge House Hotel and was the best part of that stay. 3rd Coast remains my "go to" place for many reasons. Consistently excellent food, service and overall ambience. Dinner menus are innovative, staff are attentive and welcoming, a great value and hidden gem in the heart of the Gold Coast neighborhood. Janet the owner can often be found working behind the front counter with staff and guests, in the back office taking the multitude of phone and take-out orders and maybe most importantly going from table to table to be sure everyone is welcomed and receiving the best of attention.
