Megg is a top tier bartender and I met this dude named Chris and another guy who I haven't met yet is wearing a Rage Against the Machine T-shirt so surely he's cool. Friend comes out and wants an Amaretto cocktail. Bartender says politely, "We don't carry Amaretto, we're basically a shot and a beer place, but just down two blocks is Frank's. I always walk by this place and it always catches my eye. Finally went here with a bunch of friends after zoo lights. It was a cool little Cleveland Browns bar! They had $3 rolling rocks which I loved! I loved the Christmas lights they had up for the holidays. I was digging that they had golden tee and a Juke box in the back. It was definitely a cool atmosphere! Feels like a small town bar only it is in the big city. The music was good and at a good volume so you could still talk still. You never know who you're being rude to and as someone who relied heavily on my bartending wages to put me through school for my doctorate, I tip heavily and pay for everything I ask for. What a hidden gem! Watched the World Series game here as I am a Cleveland fan and was told this was one of 3 bars where my people were congregating. It was packed but everyone was friendly- the bartenders were surprisingly fast considering how insane it was! There's only ~ 6 tables in the place and they only own 7 pitchers, but for 99% of the year I assume that's completely fine. Would definitely come back here for a casual drink or to watch a Browns game! PS- They don't serve food but you can order some and bring it in! read more

We were originally supposed to go to Gaslight, which is right across the street, to watch the Bulls game; however, they said they would be playing the Butler game so instead we went to the Field House. Field House happens to be a Cleveland bar, and the Bulls happened to be playing Cleveland but everyone was friendly. This place is a hole in the wall place, pretty small but with lots of big TVs. they don't have food so you can bring in whatever you want to eat. They also have good drinks specials, when we were there on a Saturday, they had $2.50 cans of Bud. It's a good place to hang back and watch some sports. read more

Bare bones dive bar. A-ok! $5 Bud pitchers Mon-Thurs! Sometimes I can be down with Bud, and for five bones a pitcher? Sign me up. Every other bar in Lincoln Park is going to charge you a fiver for one pint, let alone a pitcher so fill 'er up! No limes for my vodka tonic? No big deal; a little Rose's lime does the trick. I don't know how much it was but we got four pints of beer and my V&T (also in a pint glass) for $14. Again, in LP this is NICE! I'm a huge, huge fan! I was a bit aprehensive due to the neighborhood it's in & the experiences I've had in other LP bars, but this was fantastic! I ended up going here after dinner with a group of friends & we had a total blast. Beers were cheap, people were fun, music was all right (no Bruce at a Bruce bar...weird, but it's due to the new electronic jukebox & Bruce not signing up to be on it), and the open front of the bar makes for a lovely summer evening. Even though we all became a bit louder & a bit sloppier, the bartender never seemed annoyed or unhappy to serve us. He really was quite a gem. I really wanted to like this place a lot more because I do like dive bars. I was with a friend bar hopping down Clark but on the look out for places we hadn't been to before, plus we wanted to catch the end of the football game. We spotted The Field House and the sign for $2 beers caught our eye. It was a Saturday night so it wasn't packed for the NFL games and it was cozy. There were maybe 6 other people there. The window seat is really cute and there are about 15 TVs packed in a bar the size of a shoebox, but in a good way. Unfortunately they don't serve food and there aren't many options nearby. In fact, our bartender ordered Giordano's while we were there. I appreciate that they have cheap beer but if I want to eat I don't want to wait 45 minutes or so for delivery. Plus, I'm not a huge fan of the Browns so the 'dawg pound' connection takes away a star. read more

What a great dive, this is a rare bar in Lincoln park for people over 40. This bar has a decent drink selection and a nice staff but it has nothing really special about it except the age of the people there. If you are young and you go you will be hit on by older people [usually the bar has a 5:1 male to female ratio] If you are a browns fan this is the place to be though. I can see why Departed G isn't a fan, especially when some of the regulars are in there and you don't know them (the older profanity yelling mongoloids), but affection starts to take over and you soon find yourself cuddling that old guy that just blew his paycheck and is now on margin... The fact of the matter is it's cheap, you can play TAPs or Flippy Cup or whatever the hell you want to call it. They have mega-touch so you can blow some coin on finding differences between scantily clad naked women on Erotic Photo Hunt. Mike the bartender's a good guy who's very outgoing especially when it would be illegal for him to drive, Tim's a bit more reserved but equally sociable, and Denise/Danielle (can't remember) has a good iPod that she plugs in. I walk by The Field House every single day and I never thought to check it out until recently, when a place I was headed to appeared to be far too overcrowded. Matter of fact, it seemed far too overcrowded everywhere that night and The Field House was about the only place we could find seats in the vicinity. I'm not about that standing up life. I like this place. It's small and there was a familiar vibe, as if at least some of the patrons there come often and know each other. Struck up a few conversations (which I was actually able to hear and respond to without yelling over too loud music), noone was creepy, always a huge plus in Lincoln Park. And hey, cheap drinks! That's what I like to hear. I picked up a friend's drink on my tab and was pleasantly surprised when I looked at the receipt. Especially since my friends tend to have far more expensive taste in libations than I do. Again, it's a small place and probably not best suited for a large crew. Bring a friend or two. If you're an Ohio State fan, stay away. But otherwise check out The Field House because it very well may be the best sports bar in Chicago that nobody knows about. Small, it offers the ultimate sports bar experience wrapped into the neighborhood tap around the corner. This place is covered by more square inches of high-definition TV space than a rap star's living room. There's no kitchen, but they have a folder of menus so you can get anything you want delivered here. The only downside is that the bathroom is too small for emergencies; people in poor health should probably find someplace else. A huge benefit is that Zach W. often hangs out here, and he's the coolest person I know. read more

Stopped in to this fine establishment during a weekend visit to Chi-town. Can't miss a Brownie's game of course - even when traveling. This place is definitely a dive. The bathrooms are smaller than closets. The ceiling looks like it's about to fall in and nothing has been dusted in the last twenty years. There's about 15 seats by the bar and 8 tables lining the walls - it's tiny but this place can pack the Brown's fans in for sure. With 15 TVs, you definitely won't miss a play of the game. Pitchers of beer are around $6 bucks, ours was a little warm so we switched to bottles (but we payed the price - $3.50 a piece). Field House has no kitchen so the owner ordered Domino's pizza for all the patrons during the second quarter - just tiny pizzas - but the right amount for a snack. People also brought their own finger foods (chips, dip, mozzarella sticks, etc.). During a commercial break I left the bar and walked about two minutes down the way to Starbucks to grab a chai - bring whatever you want into this place, they don't care. I only gave 3 stars because dive bars can skeeve me out a bit (was paranoid dust would fly into my beer at any moment) and the bathrooms left something to be desired (read: they're gross - but what public restrooms aren't?). The cheap beer, the Browns game on every TV, and the Brownie elf drawn on the window made this an A-Ok visit for me. PS- Molly's Cupcakes is close by for an after the game treat! read more

Great Neighborhood bar! Very small - you could easily walk right by it (esp. with huge Mickey's snack bar across the street), but don't! It is a mix of regulars and newbies, but it's nice - the regulars are happy to tell you stories and talk about sports. I think it's great to have a variety of people to chat with and to people watch. this is the go to place for Cleveland Browns games or Baldwin Wallace track meets. There are many places in Chicago to go for games but this place has a differentiator that vaults it much higher on the consideration funnel than any other place: the aquarium. On the bar there is a 12"x16" aquarium (see picture) containing roughly 4 fish. Three of the fish are purple and one of those three has a yellow stripe. The fourth fish is shy and is mostly white with an orange/sepia hue on its dorsal area. As someone who has gone to the field house for 2 browns seasons I can tell you that I've seen it all: the fish hiding behind the rocks, the fish eating particulate on the aquarium glass, the fish sleeping, the fish quarreling (yes!!!!), and even seen the bar tender feed the fish before. The only problem I have with this place is that I often watch the fish instead of football which is actually great as the fish tank is brimming with life compared to browns football. a tip, don't pour IPAs in the tank, they don't seem to like hoppy brews and they get all sluggish read more

this might be blasphemy to some...but the field house has potential to be the new richard's in my book. the boss is on the juke (not sure how this happened, but i almost cry with excitement when i hear the beginning of dancing in the dark). the beers are cold, and coors light is only $2. the owner is a very friendly soul who loves to dance. the crowd usually seems a little sketchy when you arrive, but after everyone gets a few beers in them, we're all friends just dancing in the dark. it's getting close to richard's epic dance party standards... read more
