They received a face lift! Still a dive but with some Chitown personality. They added a spray painted Chicago mural around the perimeter of the bar and the ceiling renewed in ornamented black tile. Those small aspects make a splash! Though the feel and operation are still the same. The bar is best categorized as a neighborhood kind of place. No food or special amenities. Just a spot to catch a game though they aren't a sports only bar, see a few locals and have a couple pours. So the other night, I was at the Italian bistro next door for dinner when a chance introduction led to listening to an acoustic set. I forget guy's name, but he played a harmonica and guitar at the same time. His mom was there too, nice lady, had a deep Irish or maybe Welsh accent?. Too loud to figure out. Pleasant fellow and his Ma. Guy sang some classic rock and country anthems. A couple got up and danced slowly together whilst others sang and cheered along. I have been coming to WVN for 3 years now. It's a bar in the city that I feel 100% comfortable coming to alone. However, over the years I have met friends who have become family. I want to like this bar as I have lived around the corner from it for 4 years now and really want it to be my fun neighborhood spot. However, all 7 times I have gone for a drink I have been met with the worst service and rude attitude from the employees specifically the lady with red hair. One time she literally called me a cheap-f*ck when I refused to pay for a water and then caused a scene by throwing my drink across the bar. Such a shame for a bar with good prices and location. I have been coming to Wrigleyville North for 20 years. During that time it has changed drastically. It used to be super divey and was my spot for cubs pregaming and the occasional postgame tipple. A few years ago a corporation bought them and did some remodeling. It's definitely nicer now but has lost some of its charm. The current crop of bartenders are a bit dull imo. Still it's a nice spot to sit with the dogs and get a couple beers. Happy hour is 4-6 and prices are pretty good then. read more

I initially expected lower prices (White Claws are $6.50 and draft beers are $5), but it is still cheaper than Wrigley places. There are unique Chicago murals on the walls and the bathrooms are nice and updated. Friendly service and crowd with TVs for all the games you might want to watch. I'm here literally every weekend, which means that a) I know a lot about this bar and the people who frequent it and b) I'm probably a bit biased because I've become a (27 year old) regular. Definitely dive bar, but not hipster dive bar. When you think of "regulars" at a bar, the folks that'll show up here are who you're thinking of. It's $8 pitchers except when the band is playing and then they're $10, which isn't necessarily uber-cheap, but considering the neighborhood it's pretty decent. The staff are all no B.S. kinda people but if you're friendly to them they'll return the favor. Since the smoking ban the inside's become a lot more pleasant a place. Customers range from post Cubs game drunkards to semi-hipsters to off-the-street looking folk to upper middle agers to regular Buena Parkers. When the band plays on the weekend, pretty much everyone seems to be having a good time. Lots of dancing, drinking and pool playing. Contrary to popular belief, there are actually a lot of women that show up at this bar, and some are quite easy on the eyes, but there really are no stalls in the women's bathroom (there is in the men's.... which ... makes... sense), so be prepared to stand in line. Again, I'm biased, but I actually really recommend this place if you like to go where people are down to earth, straight up out for drinking and having a good time. The band is pretty damn good, but even on weekdays it's a nice and quite place to go and watch the game and have a beer (on tap there's Bud Lite and MGD but they have quite a few microbrew/import bottles). read more

When my friend was desperate to grab a drink near my place last night, I suggested this dive bar I had walked by many times but never tried. But I guess when I think "dive bar" I think of the hipster, ironic Wicker Park dives that are still somewhat clean and attract patrons who aren't sixty year old alcoholics. This is Dive with a capital D. The bartender was dressed in gray sweatpants and Cubs sweatshirt, random old drunk dude kept asking me if I thought he was ugly, and I paid $5 for a watered-down Jack & Coke. But it was all worth it when a guy in his thirties put "Hello" by Lionel Ritchie on the jukebox three times in a row and laid his head down on the bar. Maybe it was their song? Bottom line, this is a southern Illinois townie bar transplanted to Wrigleyville, complete with pool table, juke box, and blue collar dudes just looking to drink the night away. read more

Me and my friends were trying to go to Holiday Club on the night of New Year's Day and found out that they were closed. We were quite disappointed as we were ready to party. One of my friends were like I know this nice little place a block south of HC that won't be as lively but will get us to a drunken mental state. We accepted the terms a waltzed over and had a pretty good time. Bar with TVs and music playing from different eras set the tone for us which caused us to have a good time. They played such wonders as "Ring of Fire," "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw," and the David Alan Coe song that includes the lyrics "I was drunk the day my momma got out of prison, and I went to pick her up in the rain." But, beware of: 1) Drunk "regulars." This was a somewhat difficult yelp review to write, because the bartenders are some of the nicest people I've met in Chicago. They will always pay attention to you, serve you immediately with a smile, or strike up a conversation with you. I want to give this place 5 stars, as I love a good neighborhood, down to earth dive bar. Unfortunately, there are some things this place needs to work on: 1. Cash only- I get that some places are, but c'mon. It's 2015, and you're going to get a lot of Cubs fan spilling over from Wrigley. It's a little unreasonable to think that all the suburbanites wandering over here are going to have cash on them, especially if they brought any cash with them to Cubs games. 2. I have been here a few times where some people should have been kicked out for being obscenely drunk, and actually harassing other customers at the bar. They seem to let this kind of behavior continue, which makes me a little nervous if I ever come here on a crowded Saturday night. 3. Some of the mixed drinks taste either water downed, or mixed with flat pop. Not too bad of a place, just nothing too impressive. The vitals: -Bottled beer only. Your typical boring macro line-up with Sam Adams and MKE Brewing's Louie's Demise, the latter of which was my go to. -Homey Dive feel. You know, tile, a few tables against the wall, Family Feud on the tube. Some bathrooms you know have had some shady stuff happen in them though they aren't that large. -Wrigley dive prices. $10.50 buys a round of three beers (Miller, Louie's and Sam Adams). -Good water service. Asked for some water and was given a plastic bottle. Attended the inaugural Thursday night plugged-in open mic night less than 24 hours ago. Had a great time. If you play an instrument, any instrument, this awesome kid Paul who runs the thing, will fit you in. You can show up as a band, or show up alone. Drums are there. Amps are there. Mics are there. I sucked, but I saw some pretty credible shredding nonetheless and that Paul kid plays just about everything (keys, bass, harmonica, guitar). If there was a lute or sitar on stage I'm sure he would have played those too. Good times. read more

Wrigleyville North is a great dive bar. It's not like the dive bars in WP or Logan Square where all the cool crowds hang out. It's a pretty motley crew of middle aged drinkers. You're probably not going to meet some cute hipster but you'll come away with some good stories. The band that was playing was actually pretty good. They were playing a good mix of old country tunes. The bartender was nice enough. The beer was good and cheap. I thought it was funny that they were advertising Jaegar and root beer shooters since they don't have Red Bull. I didn't try it on this evening but maybe on my next trip. Overall a good authentic dive. Pretty similar to Carol's only without the dancing and cheaper drinks. read more

I'm always walking around this area and I see old ladies and men with beer guts going in and out to smoke their cigarettes. Then one night someone told me about this GREAT hidden bar that I live near. Oh really? Let's go. It was terrible. They only take cash and their ATM was broken. Then I order a screwdriver, and I swear it tasted like it was made with Tampico or Tang or something similar. And I cannot taste the vodka at all, despite the "juice" being mostly water and corn syrup. So I order a cocktail on the specials board. I get the same thing, except it's kinda lime flavored. It was a huge bar, but there were only a few people in it. Most of them weird looking old men that made me relieved I had my boyfriend around. And a bunch of people that played mariachi music on the jukebox. Maybe it's better on a busy night with the right crowd and on the hunt for cheap BEER specials. this is the diviest dive bar i've ever been in....but it's a good little spot to grab cheap cheap cheap drinks..i think $10 pitchers (the large sized ones). The girl's bathroom is the weirdest bathroom I've ever walked into, why are there two toilets right next to each other without a wall between. Make sure you lock the door.
