I know this restaurant is often full of tourists, but hear me out. It's really decent food and the prices could be higher. I've been coming here after visiting the art institute or before the symphony for the last 14 yrs. I've had brunch, lunch, and dinner and I've never had a meal to complain about. My kids love the fish n chips and I love the curry poutine. After not finding a single poutine I liked in Quebec, I just figured I disliked poutine. Turns out, the only one I like is at the Gage. The last time I was here, my daughter asked for her egg on the side of her avocado toast. It mistakenly arrived on the toast. She said it was fine and didn't want to make a fuss, but our waiter still offered free dessert for the mixup. Great service. Great fried pickles. Nice ambiance. And price points I don't complain too loudly about. It's not exactly cheap, but it's not outrageous
Ordered the Prime Steak Au Poivre with jalapeño add-on for pickup. Placed the order online, ready in about 25 minutes, walked in and grabbed it. The steak came out medium rare, leaning on the rarer side, but I'm not complaining. The pepper sauce is good but at $72 I was hoping for a little more fresh pepper to cut through the buttery base. Felt like it could've been abit bolder. The fries are nothing special but do their job alongside the steak. Nice touch that they included vinegar and ketchup on the side. One to-go specific note, the jalapeños came pretty solidified in butter, which isn't great unless you can heat them up right away. Probably a non-issue dining in, but worth knowing if you're ordering out. Good food and smooth pickup experience overall, just go in knowing the prices are on the higher end.
We stopped by The Gage for drinks and a light meal to escape the Chicago heat. It was packed because of Pokémon Go Fest and the Blues Festival. Troy behind the bar looked after us. He was super friendly, helpful, and made us feel welcome. We ordered a mix of beers and cocktails. I loved the French onion soup, and the roasted beets were great too. The spot has a warm, comfortable vibe. We're definitely planning to come back for dinner.
The Gage has been a staple on Michigan Ave since 2007 and there's good reason for that. Consistency is the key to success in this part of town. The clientele is a balance of tourists visiting Millennium Park, businessmen grabbing lunch or taking a client out to dinner and/or weekenders hanging downtown looking for a nice meal out in a contemporary setting. Folks visiting The Gage will not settle for okay food and average service. And they're willing to pay for quality because it's either an "occasion" or the tab is being picked up with a company card. We visited on a Saturday morning for brunch, and everything about the visit was on point. The service was friendly and prompt. She knew the menu and made fantastic recommendations. The space itself is clean and inviting - nice enough for a business dinner, but casual enough for jeans and a hoodie. The food and drinks were all delicious, and the price point was exactly where it should be for a sit-down, table service restaurant in the heart of the city. It gets crowded here, so reservations are a good idea. Usually there's a reason if a restaurant has been around for a while and you constantly need to make a reservation. The Gage checks all the boxes.
Celebrated my daughter's highschool graduation luncheon here for 12 people. 6 kids and 6 adults ... Kenya gave me a hard time initially when I went in to make a reservation but later was super sweet in accommodating all my requests. We had perfect seating and the food as always was excellent. I loved my zucchini panini and the burgers and salads were a hit . Great job team Gage in giving us wonderful memories, our server was very attentive to the teens and adults alike. Love coming back here !
Been here a handful of times and as usual the atmosphere/esthetic is amazing. The staff is super friendly and on point. Empty plates sat for maybe a second before someone was there to clear the table. The special Mother's Day rose cocktail went down too well. We had the avocado toast and the Croque Madame. The avocado was so flavorful with the pickled onion. The Croque Madame was so full of flavor and toasted perfectly. The ham was tender with the right amount of saltiness to complement the bachamel.

It's obvious they really care about customer service & the customer experience. We shared scones for a starter. Great flavor & texture. I had the Croque Madame. It was divine! I am doing this review on the gauge during a dinner that we had recently as a large group on a week night. I had previously been to the gage well over 12 years ago for an informal lunch. And it was absolutely delicious and memorable back then. Coming back so many years later, it's so great to see them still in business and doing very well. I understand the menu changes quite often but it's really great to still see some of the English influence food menu items on the menu such as a scotch egg and fish and chips. We were a party of seven and they were able to accommodate, and luckily, despite all the tables and chairs it wasn't that crowded to move around. However, all the tables were completely filled for a Tuesday night during restaurant week. No one at the table ordered restaurant week menu however I did manage to get only two photos because everyone at my party eats their food immediately. The scallops were cooked perfectly well and were very nice and fresh and the brussels sprouts on the toast with Barada was quite decadent as well. I would definitely come back here again if I was in the area and it's great to see it doing so well.
Elegant, classy, and romantic venue with both indoor and outdoor seating options throughout all four seasons. Patio seating covered with heating so you get to enjoy the white winter weather view as you dine. The food was also exceptional and service was top notch. Walked passed this place many times during the summer and they were always packed to capacity so never quite made it in...until last night. Happened to be with just my furry friend so sat outside but we were both very warm and comfortable. Did I mention how beautiful this place is? Ordered the orchard apple salad and coconut curry with chicken, but they had other very appetizing selections just had to hold off on until my next visit. The orchard apple salad was divine. Crisp Michigan green apple slices in alternating layers with baby kale and friséez. Sprinkled with crunch almonds and super sharp cheddar, and seasoned with delicious mustard vinaigrette. Sooo incredible. A must try. The coconut curry was just perfect with the winter weather. You get a choice of chicken, salmon, shrimp or steak for extra charge but totally worth it. Added the chicken which was perfect selection. The curry is made with squash, bokchoy, and oyster mushroom (exceptional curry) with a squeeze of lime. Oh yes and the curry comes with udon noodles but I believe you can order rice on the side. Plenty of curry to add to rices I also ordered a nonalcoholic beverage. Can't recall exactly what it was called but very crisp and refreshing spritzer. Everything about this place was incredible. Highly recommend. Will be coming here more often. Also their bar is amazing. Great date place for sure #2 visit in just one week. Again fantastic. Had the venison burger and French onion soup. Absolutely delicious. Was torn between the cheeseburger versus the venison burger, and glad I took the advice of my server. The venison burger was perfect. Cooked medium rare with mustard sauce which took away the gamey flavor that I'm not a fan of. Definitely try. Will prob come back the next time to try the cheeseburger so I can give you guys a comparison. Also had the French onion soup. Super cheesy which I absolutely loved. A little on salty side but they always are anywhere else. But hit the spot in a cold snowy day. Highly recommend

Had lunch here and were seated right away. Our server greeted us promptly and took our drink order immediately. We ordered the venison burger and, honestly, I was hesitant at first because I was worried it might be too gamey. However, our server did a great job explaining what to expect, and she was absolutely right. The venison patty was juicy, flavorful, and exceeded my expectations. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was attentive and efficient throughout our meal. They also have an impressive selection of signature cocktails. I didn't end up trying one because the drink I was interested in sounded a bit too strong for lunch, but it's definitely given me a reason to come back later for drinks. Overall, I left as a very happy customer and would gladly return. read more

Came here for lunch with my coworkers and had a really enjoyable meal. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive so it was a good experience from start to finish. We started with the poutine to share, and it was a solid appetizer. I especially loved the pickled onions on top, which added a nice tangy contrast to the rich gravy. For my entrée, I ordered the fish and chips and was pleasantly surprised by how large the pieces of fish were. The fish was flaky, fresh, and cooked really well, while the fries were nice and crispy. We ended lunch with the vanilla crème brûlée, which was a great way to finish the meal. It had a nicely caramelized sugar topping and was a solid dessert overall. I got the strawberry Negroni drink and loved it! Very smooth and flavorful. They have good non alcoholic options as well. I enjoyed all the food we received, it was tasty, warm, fast, and you get a good portion. The lobster roll was good, the lamb was good and the zucchini was as well! We got Brussel sprouts for the app and those were my favorite. The dessert was also very delicious and I would get again! They validate parking if you park in the north parking garage for $13. Good service and good vibes inside the Gage. Love the professionalism displayed throughout the restaurant and it is very welcoming. They have a very cool downstairs area you could rent out for parties too! Food was good too read more

3.5 stars would have been more apt. Great atmosphere, perfect martini service, fantastic French onion soup, Fairly good fish and chips but a poor roasted chicken with flabby skin. Crispy skin is hard to do, but at a gastropub and at these prices I expected it to be better executed. read more

Really good dinner here last night. We started with an order of truffle fries. From there, I enjoyed the venison burger with Caesar salad. Others had the regular cheeseburger, dinner salads, and sides. Service was great as well. Nice venue too. I'd definitely come back here. read more

This place was absolutely delish! The food was so fresh & so good. It seems the have a rotating menu so i'm so excited to come back & be able to try new things. the service was wonderful & very helpful. i can't remember our waiters name but he was very nice. the ambiance was beautiful, we went at 8:30 on a saturday night & it wasn't crowded & was very relaxing - we probably missed the rush hour but im very happy we did. can't wait to come back ! read more
Dinner at The Gage was everything! We kicked off the night with crisp vodka sodas before diving into the most flavorful mussels, so delicious we basically cleaned the bowl. Then came that juicy burger with golden fries which were unreal. And the sweetest surprise? A complimentary birthday dessert on the house, complete with a candle! The service was wonderful and made the night feel extra special. Chicago nights done right! A perfect day, Gage-crafted Stopped by The Gage again for a quick bite and honestly... it never misses. Even though we had an amazing dinner here recently, grabbing midday snacks and drinks was just as good. We sat outside, soaked in the views of Millennium Park, and it was the perfect little break in the day. Ordered a skinny margarita (so refreshing!), we grabbed a beer, and of course we had to get the fried pickles which were crispy, salty, and absolutely addictive! If you're in town this weekend for the parade or the @themagmile Lights Festival, definitely swing by The Gage for a quick bite, lunch, or dinner. It's delicious every single time! read more
Wonderful and lively setting on Michigan Ave. it's quite large and is beautiful inside! Definitely make a reservation because it's bustling! We ordered scallops and the sole. The portions were very good and the flavor of my sole with lemon capers was delicious. I did feel that most items had mushrooms. If you don't like mushrooms, the there aren't going to be many options. I hate mushrooms so that was a negative. The profiteroles dessert was filled with ice cream! It was very delicious covered in Carmel/hot fudge sauce. Our service was great and the atmosphere was wonderful. read more

Had a really nice experience here Had their shrimp curry and really enjoyed it. Also ordered a really delicious margarita that was a blend of tequila and mezcal. Ate on the patio later than rush hour and it was nice and relaxing. Definitely worth checking this place out! Little expensive but good food and drinks and good service read more

This is the one salad I can't forget, and to say that about a salad means serious business. A fantastic venue for any occasion, with a sophisticated, upscale-casual environment and great service. Food was off-the-charts delicious. A second trip during my stay was inevitable. Different entrée, but ordered the salad again. Fork & Knife Wedge: Gem lettuce, pork belly, Point Reyes blue cheese, cherry tomato, Granny Smith, crispy fried onions, herbed buttermilk dressing. The best salad I've ever had, I'm sure it's something to do with the pork belly. Obsessed! read more

Long overdue review for The Gage in The Loop, Chicago! We made reservations for a later dinner after Lollapalooza, and it was the perfect spot to unwind. The food was delicious with generous portions--the fish and chips in particular were amazing. The staff was friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. Had dinner at the Gage two nights during my last visit to Chicago. The first night was a business event downstairs, where I had a beautifully cooked fillet. One of the best steaks that I've had in a long time. My second visit was with my wife where we sat upstairs in a dimly lit booth while Stephanie took care of us. I had a classic martini and my wife had a dirty vodka martini while we shared a scotch egg. The creamy yolk of the egg mixed with sausage and mustard was the star of the show. For a main, I went less formal and had the Cheeseburger Royale, perfectly cooked, but fairly one-note in flavor. My wife ordered the coconut curry and added shrimp for some substance. The curry was delicately light and filled with huge pieces of bok choy that would have been easier to eat if cut down a bit. The overcooked shrimp were a bland disappointment at $21 for three under-seasoned pieces. Service was great and the prices were fair. A good experience all around. read more
The Gage had a great ambiance, good customer service, and good food. It's located directly across the iconic Bean, so it's a great location for travelers. I got the Half Sandwich (Smoked Salmon BLT) & Soup of the Day (Corn Soup w/ Apple Pico de Gallo). Both were very tasty. The salmon was flavorful (and they weren't skimpy with it!) I highly appreciate our waiter for letting us pay our tabs early, as we were on a time crunch. read more
If you want a nice meal by millennium park or the art institute this is your place. It's convenient and MASSIVE. I'm sure in most cases they can accommodate you. It was a bit crammed however. My table for tow was very close to another table for two. The larger woman seated across from my daughter had nerve to have another woman come sit next to her making her table a table for 3. It was quite annoying. Anyways it was too close for comfort but the food was good. My daughter had the scallops. I have the Caesar salad and truffle fries. You can order from the bar no need to order a cocktail listed on the menu. I would come back if I'm at an even nearby but wouldn't pick this place for an evening out specifically. read more
I will start by saying - great service and able to accommodate our large party at last minute in a very touristy location right across the street from Millennium Park. Came here because it was close to our hotel for a work event and we have a party of 10. Service was very good and they were on top of it with our drinks and offering recommendations when asked. Onto the food, my personal opinion (and maybe just what I tried) I thought was just ok. Some of the menu seems like it was trying to be a bit overly fancy and the outcome was meh. Again, just my opinion, but the place did have a good vibe, good service, and a convenient location! read more

Enjoyed our Sunday brunch here! We wanted to try this restaurant after seeing so many good reviews on Google. Liked the interior design already when we walked in. Service was absolutely fantastic and friendly. The food - curry udon with salmon and fried chicken sandwich w truffle fries - were delicious and we highly recommend them. read more

I dug The Gage. This place gives off French bistro vibes complete with the subway tiling throughout and dark rimmed windows. This place has an array of different seating areas, places where you want to be seen, and not seen. Plates are monogrammed which gives a hint of bougie vibes but best of all, the wait staff doesn't come with the attitude for this type of spot. Right across from the Chicago Art Institute and close to Millennial Park, you get a wide view of the heart of the city, so it's a great spot for locals to take their tourist friends when visiting Chi town. Because we went during the winter, the drinks menu included warm cocktails, which is appreciated given the weather outside (it snowed after lunch that day). I ordered the lobster roll that came with a side of fries. Ah-mazing! The lobster was fresh, no added mayo to cover up the crab flavor, the added celery was crisp and gave the sandwich that extra crunch. Some zesty lemon balanced out the butteriness of the roll itself. But the true star of this dish was the hot fries -- golden crispy on the outside and buttery soft on the inside. I had them with a side of the garlic aioli which was much better than the side of ketchup it came with. Don't sleep on the fries -- I typically don't finish my friends, but this time around I sent back the plate clean. Beautiful view, good food and drink. Don't sleep on this place. read more

My buddy and I showed up here to grab a late lunch, and it was packed! Got seats at the bar, and was greeted by Jaclyn, who was super friendly and helpful, talking about her favorite items on the menu. My friend went with the burger and fries, I chose the Reuben and upgraded to the aligot potatoes. Really tasty! The corned beef was slightly shredded which makes for an easier eat. Of note- they validate parking, but you must park in the underground millennium park garage across the way. We parked in the garage next to the Palmer House, and it was a crazy $48 for 41 minutes up to 2 hours. Learned a lesson yesterday. Anyway, it's clear the place is classy and people love it because it was full at 3 PM on a Friday. I used to live in the South Loop and never went here, wish I did! read more
Everything we ate here with our party of 5 was delicious. The service was great, the ambiance was classy and nicely lit with large booths or even bigger tables for larger parties. I ordered the Irish Breakfast for late brunch and it was so good, instantly transporting you back to Ireland with the 2 eggs , black pudding, baked beans, breakfast sausage, brown bread and rashers! Went for a business dinner. They had a nice room in the back that comfortably sat a larger group of about 20-25 people. The one server was a bit harsh. When I asked for a pint glass of water, she said "I'm not sure if I can do that," when in fact there is a full bar of pint glasses. She also seemed to be bothered by my request for no caramel with the chocolate mousse dessert. Food was beautifully plated and satisfying. My favorites were the crab cake (light and addictive aioli) and the salmon (very tender with a perfectly crisp skin). Two sides were served family style, broccolini and mashed potatoes. If we didn't have so many courses, I would have definitely had seconds of both. read more
Outstanding is what I will say!!!!!! Made reservations a few weeks ago for our son's celebration of graduating from the Navy. The staff was outstanding both of them, Ahna our main waitress and the First Gentlemen!!! We loved Ahna and she is stupendous!!!! Our first time to Chicago and eating in the restaurant, we parked at the north garage and walked, which was not a bad walk which is directly across from where the cloud is! The food we had was, fish and chips for me, tuna dish for my son, hamburger for my daughter, and chicken for my husband which I can not pronounce lol We were there for hours which did not seem that long. The decor that is throughout the entire restaurant has definitely a Scottish Irish pub theme and we loved it! Even the owner came up to our table asked us how things were and talked with us for a few. Price is worth every penny for the food and family time we spent together!! Love this place! Booked lunch here for after seeing the river dying for Saint Patrick's day. Arrived early and they had no problem seating us even though this place was so lively with people enjoying the Saint Patrick's day festivities. They had a band and bag pipers which added such an amazing ambiance. Actually grabbed a drink at the bar before we went to our table & let me say the bartenders were on it! The place was packed but it didn't slow them down from giving friendly & fast service. Our waiter was very friendly also and knowledgeable about the menu being that I hadn't ever had some of the items on the menu. Suggested the scotch egg which I've been wanting to try.. amazing! The owner came by greeting every table, I thought that was a nice touch. He came over introduced himself and was just the nicest and introduced us to the head chef who was also so kind and suggested a nice dessert which came out in what seemed like seconds! 10/10 Definitely come here. read more

One year ago, we had the best pot pie ever at the Gage. Does anyone know if it's still on the menu?
Hi Doug, we are so happy to hear you enjoyed the pot pie! Our menu changes constantly with the seasons -- right now the pot pie is not on the menu, but may make a reappearance sometime this winter.
Does The Gage have a kids menu?
I googled the menu and I didn't see a kids menu per se, but I have taken my six-year-old granddaughter there and I think they came up with chicken tenders and fries for her.
Is the venison grass-fed? Are any of the meats on the menu grass-fed? Thanks in advance for answering my question.

Dress casual. Many people were in jeans with dress shirts or slacks.
Has anyone here tried the elk rack?
Yes, my husband, who is a big fan of game meat has tried it. He said it was amazing! And he would absolutely order it again!
