We came to this bar on a Thursday evening for happy hour. They do have a special four dollar everything so we thought we would go here before our dinner reservations. We didn't stay very long because the bartender (Thursday 2.6.25 - dark hair) was kind of lazy. We grabbed one drink and bartender was more interested in talking to her friend at the end of the bar than making sure that we continually got cocktails. I'm not sure I would return, but it is a really good deal for the four dollar everythings if you like draft beer and they have a very wide selection of draft beer. I would pass on the well and call drinks as the drinks you barely you're barely getting an ounce of liquor. They also have three dollar jameson shots at any time but again I don't think you're getting a full ounce. There are much better bars located in short walking distance so I think I'll pass on going back here. read more

I would NOT suggest this bar. It was st paddy's day and my friends and I go to this so called "Irish" bar and played an IRISH songs and got skipped over EACH TIME by the bartenders. Beer paradise !! I and my friend ran into this place tonight and we were really lucky. This is truly a paradise for beer lovers - they have various IPAs, Pale Ales, lagers and even several of my favorites - wheat beers to choose from and what's the best - all the beers were only $2.50 tonight ! (Sunday) I'm not sure if this is happening also other nights of the week but I'm definitely coming back another Sunday. (If you are lucky like me, you will have a very nice, sweet, attentive and gorgeous bartender Jill taking care of your glass always being full and let me tell you - she does really good job at it!) The place itself is pretty cozy and spacious. It's nothing fancy and the pub has a good energy. The bar is well stocked also for those that are weird and don't drink beer - just kidding, of course everyone has their own preferences and I think that in this bar everyone can find their thing. Kicked me out for being the victim. Waiting at the bar for a while to get a drink. Girl keeps trying to push by but I hold my spot. Eventually she gets up next to me and apologizes, asks me what I want to drink as she's ordering. When the bartender comes back with her drinks and what I told her I was gonna get, she grabs my card and gives it to the bartender. I tried to say something to the bartender but it's too loud and she tries to grab her drinks and get away. I managed to take away half of what she ordered. The bartender comes back with the bill and I try to explain that I didn't order/agree to pay for any of this. I try to give back the drinks I didn't order or want (they were unopened cans), and when she says I can't, I refuse to sign the bill (why would I pay for something I didn't order or want?). I had to use touch tunes to request songs and each time I put money in to request a song, it was skipped. This bar wants you to spend money but not enjoy the music you like. I would have put more stars had I not requested songs multiple times with it getting skipped. read more

Bros and suburbanites funnel in to overtake the sound equilibrium and screech until oblivion and your eardrums blow. But on a weeknight, with $2 EVERYTHING specials, comfy window-side seating and room to breathe, it's a gem. The bartenders are usually neighborhood locals or Lincoln Park high graduates that peaked senior year, so get in a chuckle and tip an extra buck for charity. Just keep your volume down. read more

Halligans recently discontinued their happy hour $3 all drinks on Fridays (unsure about the other days of the week), so my colleagues & I switched over to Hook & Ladder, and we have yet to be disappointed! Drinks and service were good! I enjoyed my whiskey sour, & you can choose any type of whiskey because they are all included in the $3 happy hour deal. This place is very similar to the next door bar Halligans. They actually have the same owner and you will see the same bartenders working both locations, there is even a secret door that connects both bars. You can have some fun with it since from the H&L side it looks like a normal door, and once you cross into Halligans the door is perfectly blended in with the wall so you can't see it. I always send a friend through and see how long it takes them to figure it out. As far as drinks, pretty much identical to Halligan but they are more expensive. I only come here when Halligans is packed and I don't mind paying extra but to get a seat and quicker service. read more

About 15 of us popped in after Lions Head was closed for the night and took over the second room. $2.50 for any draft on the menu on this particular Tuesday, and the selection was pretty good! Nothing else stood out as bad or wrong, but the service was quick and friendly and the other couple of patrons I joked with while waiting for my pour seemed to be having a good time. There was open air exposure in the second room and a handful of TVs. Cheap drink, easy access, plenty of room for my pals, and a better than halfway decent beer selection? Fun, low key bar where you can have a very cheap night and still get a lot of drinks in you! For now, they have $2 Fireball shots which is very dangerous if you get my drift. :P The bartenders are super fast at getting your drinks and very attentive. The crowd is always young, and the vibe is very chill and "dive" like. I only have a complaint on the lack of bartenders when it's not even that busy. I have seen the back bar unattended so many times, that I don't even bother getting drinks when in that area. I wish they would work on more efficient and present service. read more

I've been a faithful customer of Hook and Ladder. I can honestly say it's a bar I've always frequented and recommended to others. However, tonight my feelings for this place changed. It's 1:45am and the workers are rushing EVERYONE out the door. So I decide to use the bathroom before I exit and one of the workers grabs me by my arms & tells me to leave. That I had the chance to use the restroom during last calll. Correct me if I'm wrong, but last call means ORDER YOUR LAST DRINK. I was going back and forth with this guy and others, but it was a waste of time. In the end, I wasn't going to argue with this asshole. But I truly wish I would have gotten his name. If you want me to leave, your hands on my arms are NOT NECESSARY. I wasn't resisting, I was simply trying to find reasoning as to why I couldn't at least use the bathroom before I left.
