Quick drink in the open air windows while taking a break from packing my neice for a move. Nice, no-nonsense bartender, and the nice bouncer joked with us and asked us "old folks" for our licenses to prove we were over 35 (bless his heart). My niece in her twenties fit right, as this place was her call. My sister and I are older, and our hanging out in bars time is in our rear view--so needless to say we ordered our Sauvignon Blancs and they came in a can but it was good!!! I frequent this bar a lot and never had an issue before but I was with my cousins last night and my cousin was refused service from a very rude blonde bartender because he didn't tip "enough" when he ordered from her previously. He wanted to order some more drinks and she said "ABSOLUTELY NOT" He got two beers and tipped $2... Not really sure what she's expecting for opening two beers but I feel like that is VERY standard. Very disappointing as I love to come to this bar with friends but that experience was not it... This is a great sports bar. A Chicago classic! There are a myriad of options and the bartenders are knowledgeable and helpful. The music is very loud for me but average noise for bars. There is a decent amount of seating - it's not super crowded right now but I'm sure on game day the bar is vibrant with life. On to the beer! The Guinness was flat as a mat - it was my first so I was quite disappointed but I understand why people liken it to a nitro cold brew. I've been to Halligans a few times at night, and it's always been packed, loud, and poppin. The crowd is pretty young, mostly young professionals. The "secret" doorway is a fun addition. They play a decent mix of songs that everyone knows, so it's fun to hear everyone in the bar sing along. There has never been any dancing when I've gone, and you have to yell in order to have a conversation. This was the most unprofessional and racists establishment I have been to. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I simply asked the bartender a question, why the songs I paid for on the juke box were not being playing and she gave me the nastiest attitude and said she can play and skip what she wished, which makes no sense because what is the purpose of the jukebox. Then I asked to speak to the owner there and she had the audacity to say she was the manager (which I'm going to assume is not the truth based on her unprofessional demeanor) and that she can play what she wanted. I asked for my money back and she treated us like utterly shit, while handing me a $10 dollar bill. This place has no respect for minorities. I would never return and the fact that they hire these privileged people that have no respect for their customers is ridiculous. I want to like this place. I really do but I can't. It's in the Lincoln Park area which is a place that I've been spending a lot of time in lately because I go to church there and I spotted it on the way back to getting my car out of the Lincoln common parking garage. So I figured what the heck, I will go in one time and have a drink. It was the first time that I had ever been to a bar by myself and honestly with the bartender was nice enough, but I didn't have enough cash to get out of the ATM so she gave me an attitude about running my card, and she said it declined when I had the money in the account and I tried to shower and she's like "I don't really care what your bank statement looks like." They also have two guys standing in front of the bar and I know they're obviously security, but it just gives off the look that it's definitely a "we're going to see if you are good enough to be in this place." 5/14/2023 ( Mother's Day ) me and my family went to Halligans Bar located in Lincoln Park. We originally wanted to go to Hook and Ladders which is connected to Halligans but they were closed that day so we just decided to take a seat and have a couple drinks at Halligans instead. My brother ended up going downstairs to use the bathroom and when he did that my cousin was asking out loud, facing everyone at our table where can he get some weed from (dispensary recommendations)We were all just laughing about it then one of the bartenders heard him and told him to " Shut the fuck up " My cousin being under the influence turned to us and said " I will slap that N***a " jokingly and laughing then the security guard ( Which is a white man ) came over and violently snatched the beer that was in my cousins hand, which spilled all over him and kept repeating what my cousin said " Did you say you were going to slap that N***a " I turned towards him and asked him " why do you keep saying that? You cannot say that " and he asked me/ us multiple times " why can you guys say it and I can't " which made me and my family more angry. We're all going back and forth with each other and my brother came from the bathroom and was asking what happened, the security guard said it AGAIN, " He said he was going to slap that nigga " and my brother asked him as well like why're you're saying that? This goes on for a couple of mins then we just decided to leave. I asked him for his name and he said " It doesn't even matter, can you guys just leave " and we did just that. I think it was ignorant and disrespectful of him to even had repeated anything that we were saying. You work for a establishment, you are the one who checked our IDs which makes you the face of this bar! I came for the first time with a group of people. We were able to get a side table and order drinks by the bar. we kept trying to play music through TouchTunes- since they had that as an option. However, none of the songs we purchased through the app were playing. I proceeded to approach a bar back worker and she was very rude. She kept saying she can skip songs if she wanted to and proceeded to toss two fives at me instead of playing the music we paid for through the app. This place was horrible and I would never go back again. This is a great Irish bar in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. I love the dark wood interior and vibe. This place isn't fancy, nor is it a total dive. There are plenty of draft beers, as well as a plethora of hard alcohol for your drinking pleasure. The food menu looked good, too, but didn't order anything given I had just downed a ginormous burger at a neighboring pub. Anywho, the bartender was efficient and friendly. Granted, it wasn't uberly crowded as it was a Saturday afternoon and most people were at the Cubbies game or at one of the Street Festivals. Drinks were cheap! They have daily drink specials with $3 vodka cherry drinks everyday. Since it was Saturday, the special was $3 Bud, Bud Lights, Draft and Lite Bottles, as well as $3 Stoli Strawberry Drinks! Awwyah! I could've done some major damage here, but only stayed for one round of drinks since we had to meet up with some friends at the Wells Street Art Festival. I'd definitely return to Halligan's, and envision myself being a regular here, especially with all of their hella cheap drink specials. I'd be down to hang out for Happy Hour or late night drinks. Halligan is a great place to grab a beer and watch whatever sporting event is on with your friends. Their staff is very friendly and service was quick! They do not have food but make getting food from surrounding restaurants super easy and have partnerships with some of them. I came for March Madness and it was the perfect atmosphere for the games - would recommend! read more

I didn't make the connection to the famed firefighter's tool (you know- the one with the pry tools that help to get people out of tight places) until I walked in this place and saw the hoses, alarms and nozzles lining the walls. There is a also a stained glass window with the memorable crossed axes that also says that firefighters are welcome here. Not a firefighter? No problem. There are still drink specials for everyone! If you go here- go early, for as the evening wears on- even this cool northside bar with it's nod to the "south side" memorabilia (63rd street sign, Sox stuff, etc) gets taken over by the college crowd. But for this post collegiate gal? If I find myself on this stretch of Lincoln- you can be sure that Halligan bar is where I'll be. I would give this place 3.5 stars but since I can't, I rounded down. What can I say? i am anal-retentive and cheap. I am also a gentleman. I don't give up the stars on the first date. I liked the place more than I thought I would. I went here with an Irish-American buddy of mine who a.) is younger than I am and b.) is an accomplished drinker. I wanted to get something to eat. He wanted to drink. I acquiesced and we sauntered over to Lincoln Park for some brews. Since I wasn't getting dinner, I got my friend to agree to an early beer. We got there at 7:45 - pm (he is that hardcore but an am time would have been brutal for me). The bar has a very familiar layout. It's on a corner and fills the space brilliantly. The crowd at that time of night was a little older. When I walked in, I fumbled for my wallet/id and the bouncer looked at me, furrowed his brow and waved me in. Come to think of it, I should have taken a star away for that. At least HUMOR me that I still have some youth left. Bastard. Anyway...I took a seat at a high top past the bar, took off my coat and got a load of all the games being played (college and pro basketball). Since all the college games were Big 10/12 and I am a SEC kinda guy, I didn't pay much attention but I appreciated the set up. My buddy arrived shortly thereafter and we started drinking. It was a Friday, so I settled in with the $3 Blue Moons (served with orange slice, of course). That was my drink of the evening. My buddy kept changing drinks - but that was so he could keep going back to the bar to flirt with the very attractive bartenders. Wow. Those women were all REALLY nice looking. They also seem to be pretty friendly and attentive. After three or four beers, we got hungry so we decided on a food run. Not wanting to give up the real estate, we went one by one to get food. Do this. This place gets packed in the blink of an eye and if you don't wanna give up your seats, keep a man at the table. My buddy got Potbellys. I, who can't eat beef, went to the hot dog place next store and got a Chicago style and a Dallas (chilli cheese) style dog - and chilli cheese fries. It was a dark day in the Johnny T bathroom that next day but this review isn't about poor food choices fueled by alcohol on an empty stomach. It's about Halligan - and the bar was fun. By the time I had finished my food (and got the sense that my digestive system wanted to discuss the matter) and a couple of more beers, it was about 11:30. I couldn't believe I had been there for nearly four hours. Granted, my buddy and I kept ordering (and, at $3 a pop, my tab wasn't bad at all considering I was there for four hours), but no one ever hassled us to leave, buy more, etc. By the time we left, the place started to get really packed and much younger. I don't think I would have enjoyed myself by then. But, for an early place to grab a beer (or six) and watch some sports and eat some brought-in greasy food, Halligan is a nice spot. read more

Cool pub in a cool neighbourhood. I don't know how but we had the drunkest of people come up to us and hang out with us and buy us drinks. We talked some fantasy football but at the same time thought he was borderline going to start a fight. Either way hilarious day! The pub has an awesome collection of Chicago beers, the space is large and it's pretty clean. Drinks are decently priced and the atmosphere is laid back. We went on a beautiful day and the place was really bright as they had all doors and windows opened. TV's all around to show whatever sporting event and highlights were happening around the world. Came here on the first football Sunday game. It wasn't that's busy around 12 pm and then it got packed. They always have amazingly cheap drink specials all week. On Sunday's the have 8$ margarita pitchers which is a great deal. And they also have 3$ draft beers as well. I only drink draft beers so i will most definitely be back. They service was normal.
