We had the Buffalo Chicken Deviled Eggs every time we went. The idea doesn't make sense - but they were soooo good! We ordered the Fish & Chips on our first visit. We were not expecting to actually get potato chips. Didn't realize until later they have french fries here, but they decided to give us potato chips. Who serves potato chips as a default with Fish & Chips? Is this a Midwest thing? Each visit, they were out of tall boy PBRs. Guess they don't restock on holiday weekends. We stopped in on a Friday midafternoon (May 2026), and found a moderate crowd, good food, and good service. For starters, we had perfect calamari. Crunchy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. It went well with the medium-spicy salsa they provided. This is already a win with any cold beer and any game on their many tvs! We would definitely it get again! We had their shepherd's pie: really flavorful Guinness Irish beef stew under a deliciously creamy layer of parmesan mashed potatoes, nicely crunchy on the outside with a lightly toasted top, and Irish soda bread. Delicious and satisfying! We loved the pastrami reuben sandwich, and we're not even big fans of sauerkraut in a sandwich. But in O'Toole's version, everything came together in a perfect union - the pastrami, the thousand-island dressing, the sauerkraut, and the griddled marble rye. We deliberately left off the Swiss cheese, and maybe that's the trick (for us) to balance the sauerkraut? Well, it worked nicely this way. First time ever here and the food was great! We decided to stop here cause it was the only thing really in walking distance with the kitchen still open once we finally were able to eat. We were greeted with a warm welcome at the door and the server was very friendly and checked on us often. The interior was loud - obviously it's a bar! But that's too be expected. However, we enjoyed the atmosphere and it was clean and had lots of seating options with several TVs and good music. We tried the pretzel trio and we inhaled it so fast!! The pretzels bites were more like light bread sticks than dense pretzel dough and I really loved that. They were lightly toasted and just the right amount of salt. I loved ALL the dips. The beer cheese was tangy and the honey mustard had just the right bit of sweet and sharp and the brown mustard was perfectly chunky and funky hahaha I absolutely loved the house made chips that came with my birria grilled cheese and the consomme was so yummy I could have drank it straight. The birria grilled cheese was a huge miss. It had dry & bland meat, was soggy, had little cheese, & desperately needed salt. Tater tots were good and crispy though. The pretzel trio did not taste like pretzels. It tasted deep fried like a donut. That's not my thing but if it's yours, you'll like the pretzel. The crispy bite with the pretzel was satisfying though. The beer cheese was bad; it was grainy, bland, & separated. The best thing here is the wings. Decently sized wings that were meaty and fatty. Came here twice within a few days of each other, once late night to get food and the other time to watch the cubs game. This is definitely your everyday sports bar to come and watch a game or a place to stop in and have some drinks. Great location by hotels and a place where out of towners and locals in the area mix. The first time it took a while for us to be seated at a table later in the evening which is to be expected but the second time we came before the game it was pretty empty till game time. It can get pretty rowdy inside especially late night or during game times. This is your normal bar atmosphere. Both times our wait staff were friendly & attentive. The first time we had wings & fries, they were good! Def a good way to end the night with more drinks. The second time we had the burger, the bacon turkey cheddar melt, and the pretzel bread pudding. Now usually with bar food I don't expect too much but this food was definitely better than your average bar! It was hot and fresh, well seasoned. I absolutely recommend getting the pretzel bread pudding. I never order desserts at bars but my friend did and I helped her eat all of it. The pretzel held up well to the custard and isn't that wet soggy feeling bred pudding normally has and the top had a little crisp to it. Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon since it was conveniently located to our hotel. I expected this to be an Irish pub but it's definitely far more sports bar than pub. Lots and lots of TVs showing all kinds of sports. The atmosphere was lively and the place got crowded quickly, likely in anticipation of the Bears game that night. The staff was friendly and efficient (besides the hostess who seated us), we didn't have to wait particularly long for anything. Our food was fine, the Reuben was a generous size, and the side salad was fresh and consisted of more than just wilted lettuce and one tomato. My friend enjoyed her chicken tender basket which felt less generous in portion size. Overall we had a good experience but the noise level was up there and felt very overstimulating. Please note: there are steep steps leading down right after the front door! I'm not sure there is signage or how to access the bar if you're handicapped. She ordered non‑alcoholic beer, the server knew she was pregnant, and still treated her like she was drunk when she briefly closed her eyes from fatigue. When I explained -- again -- that she is pregnant, the server said "I know, it's our policy" and walked away. No apology. No basic respect. If the owners imagine someone they love being pregnant and spoken to like that, they would understand how unacceptable this behavior is. I have a few reviews for Timothy O'Tooles as it's one of my must stops when I'm in Chicago. For this review, I just wanted to highlight the Bears Bus they run for the home games. I was hosting my brother for a trip to Chicago and he was going to the game. You can go online on their Website and pay your $10 fee which includes bus transportation from the bar to the game and from the game back to the bar. It also includes "road pops" to enjoy during the trip. The day we were there, they ran four trips to the game. When you buy your ticket online, it says you will receive a receipt, but we did not get that. It's not a problem as when you walk in the bar somewhere a bit more than an hour before game time they will have a list of names and give you a wristband so you can hop on one of the school buses. The day we were there the game started at noon and the buses left around 11 o'clock. The bar had been open for a while when we arrived at 11. Afterwards, they pick you up a few blocks away from the stadium and bring you back to the bar. It's a great way to get to the game very inexpensively. read more

My granddaughter and I were staying in the area and wanted a place close by to eat. I had been here once a long time ago and thought this would work. We went at 6 and were seated quickly. The place was busy they had a back room that we sat in which was perfect. Out waiter was good came immediately and drinks and meal orders. I was amazed how fast the food came out. I had order the shepherds pie which was good not the best I've ever had but it was hot and filling. My granddaughter ordered chicken strips and tots and said they were delicious . So I'm in Chicago for a weeks long conference, staying at the Hilton Grand Vacations (fancy name for a couple of the Doubletree's upper level floors, when they are trying to peddle a timeshare). I was looking for a place to hang out and watch games during my stay, and it just so happens the best place I found was right next door! A quick count of televisions totaled 42, and I'm sure I missed some. The bartenders/servers are more than willing to switch a TV to the game if your choice, provided nobody is watching what is currently on. This is my third night in a row here, and I cannot understate the awesome service I've received consistently over the three nights I've been a patron. I have not tried the food, but it looks and smells legit. I've met some of the locals, who are super friendly and welcoming. I look forward to coming here again next year! read more

This is one of my favourite bars in all of Chicago, but today I saw a very different side of it where my whole group and I got kicked out. It was unreasonable, and disrespectful. My friend was dragged out by his neck, and still has marks on his neck from the whole episode. We aren't quite sure why we were asked to leave, but we were. And none of it was nicely handled. When we tried to talk through it we were pushed to the security guards who didn't quite listen to anything that we were saying. This has tainted my experience of the bar for good, and I'm unfortunately very hesitant to go back.
