We had the Buffalo Chicken Deviled Eggs every time we went. The idea doesn't make sense - but they were soooo good! We ordered the Fish & Chips on our first visit. We were not expecting to actually get potato chips. Didn't realize until later they have french fries here, but they decided to give us potato chips. Who serves potato chips as a default with Fish & Chips? Is this a Midwest thing? Each visit, they were out of tall boy PBRs. Guess they don't restock on holiday weekends. I had some time to spare and decided to stop in for a drink. The bartenders were friendly and welcoming, and the bar itself has a decent amount of space. Unfortunately, the overall experience fell short. Getting into the bar requires walking down a very steep staircase, which seems like it could be a safety concern, especially during the winter. Once inside, there was a strong bleach odor that was hard to ignore. After being there for a bit, I also noticed fruit flies around the bar. Stopped in on a Sunday evening after a movie around the corner. Started with a round of beers/mocktails. The server was great. She seemed busy, but was very attentive and had great recommendations. I went with the nachos with chili and black beans. They did accidentally give me birria, which is usually a $7 up charge. Personally, I didn't like the birria, but the nachos otherwise were pretty good. The salsa was also pretty water and lacked flavor. My friends got the buffalo chicken egg rolls and the teriyaki bowl. The egg rolls came with a spicy sauce was that absolutely delicious! It didn't really go with the Buffalo chicken egg rolls but it did go great with my nachos. We stopped in on a Friday midafternoon (May 2026), and found a moderate crowd, good food, and good service. For starters, we had perfect calamari. Crunchy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. It went well with the medium-spicy salsa they provided. This is already a win with any cold beer and any game on their many tvs! We would definitely it get again! We had their shepherd's pie: really flavorful Guinness Irish beef stew under a deliciously creamy layer of parmesan mashed potatoes, nicely crunchy on the outside with a lightly toasted top, and Irish soda bread. Delicious and satisfying! We loved the pastrami reuben sandwich, and we're not even big fans of sauerkraut in a sandwich. But in O'Toole's version, everything came together in a perfect union - the pastrami, the thousand-island dressing, the sauerkraut, and the griddled marble rye. We deliberately left off the Swiss cheese, and maybe that's the trick (for us) to balance the sauerkraut? Well, it worked nicely this way. Came here twice within a few days of each other, once late night to get food and the other time to watch the cubs game. This is definitely your everyday sports bar to come and watch a game or a place to stop in and have some drinks. Great location by hotels and a place where out of towners and locals in the area mix. The first time it took a while for us to be seated at a table later in the evening which is to be expected but the second time we came before the game it was pretty empty till game time. It can get pretty rowdy inside especially late night or during game times. This is your normal bar atmosphere. Both times our wait staff were friendly & attentive. The first time we had wings & fries, they were good! Def a good way to end the night with more drinks. The second time we had the burger, the bacon turkey cheddar melt, and the pretzel bread pudding. Now usually with bar food I don't expect too much but this food was definitely better than your average bar! It was hot and fresh, well seasoned. I absolutely recommend getting the pretzel bread pudding. I never order desserts at bars but my friend did and I helped her eat all of it. The pretzel held up well to the custard and isn't that wet soggy feeling bred pudding normally has and the top had a little crisp to it. Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon since it was conveniently located to our hotel. I expected this to be an Irish pub but it's definitely far more sports bar than pub. Lots and lots of TVs showing all kinds of sports. The atmosphere was lively and the place got crowded quickly, likely in anticipation of the Bears game that night. The staff was friendly and efficient (besides the hostess who seated us), we didn't have to wait particularly long for anything. Our food was fine, the Reuben was a generous size, and the side salad was fresh and consisted of more than just wilted lettuce and one tomato. My friend enjoyed her chicken tender basket which felt less generous in portion size. Overall we had a good experience but the noise level was up there and felt very overstimulating. Please note: there are steep steps leading down right after the front door! I'm not sure there is signage or how to access the bar if you're handicapped. The meat was nearly melt in your mouth. Some drier lean meat but half was tender. The salad was as expected with shaved parmesan . The fish and chips were tender and moist. She ordered non‑alcoholic beer, the server knew she was pregnant, and still treated her like she was drunk when she briefly closed her eyes from fatigue. When I explained -- again -- that she is pregnant, the server said "I know, it's our policy" and walked away. No apology. No basic respect. If the owners imagine someone they love being pregnant and spoken to like that, they would understand how unacceptable this behavior is. I have a few reviews for Timothy O'Tooles as it's one of my must stops when I'm in Chicago. For this review, I just wanted to highlight the Bears Bus they run for the home games. I was hosting my brother for a trip to Chicago and he was going to the game. You can go online on their Website and pay your $10 fee which includes bus transportation from the bar to the game and from the game back to the bar. It also includes "road pops" to enjoy during the trip. The day we were there, they ran four trips to the game. When you buy your ticket online, it says you will receive a receipt, but we did not get that. It's not a problem as when you walk in the bar somewhere a bit more than an hour before game time they will have a list of names and give you a wristband so you can hop on one of the school buses. The day we were there the game started at noon and the buses left around 11 o'clock. The bar had been open for a while when we arrived at 11. Afterwards, they pick you up a few blocks away from the stadium and bring you back to the bar. It's a great way to get to the game very inexpensively. read more
